Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

Issues keeping up the lines. I can see where that might be a problem.

[But Adrien has the goal doesn't he? Protect his go, be a good worthy Shinki. That's his goal, that's the drive behind the action.]

I understand so I've got to focus on what I want to use the line for?

Right.... and learn to manage energy.

[....Maybe this is something better shown. Besides, Chikusa has to admit that he had no idea what he was in for until that moment when Urashima first broke through the line.]

...Pull up a barrier.

[Adrien is just looking at him in confusion before nodding.]

Whatever you say.

[Adrien nods and he's drawing out a barrier, green eyes narrowed in concentration. He's holding it tilting his head to listen to Chikusa.]

[And, just like that without a word, Chikusa lashes out his hand, and an offensive line goes shooting straight through.]

[This should give him an idea of how it feels to have a barrier break.]

[Adrien's eyes widened seeing that line breaking through his own a sharp gasping cry falling from his lips at the unexpected pain that jolts through him.

He drops his arm panting softly as he shoots the other a look. Not an angry look just a look. Adrien understands why he did it; he gets the point. And he even gets why he wasn't given a warning.]

What'd that have to do with managing energy?

Take a lot out of you?

[It's not quite an answer, but Chikusa seems to stick with it, his head tilted slightly to the side.]

Shook me up a bit...

[But he's recovering already staring at him.]

So That's what happens if I don't have a focus and proper control that's always going to be a problem.

[kokuyoyo]

Mm. Right. You'll also have to recover quickly in a battle... So you'll have to get over it.

....The more you practice, the stronger it should get....

[At least, that's how it's worked for him.]

[purr_ince]

Right.

[He's not seeming to have a problem with that recovery bit after the initial shock though. Soon Adrien is back to how he'd been before Chikusa broke his line, even if there's a bit of sweat dampening his bangs to his forehead.]

That's good to know, thanks. I'll just keep at it.

Good.

....And don't blight your god while you're at it. [Words that apparently need to be said, even if the minute twist of his mouth hints that he's not pleased about it.] That sort of thing... is why strong borderlines are important.

[purr_ince]

[Adrien nods his face serious.]

Kairi warned me about the blight. I would never do that to my Goddess. [Adrien's expression settles into one of determination.] I will learn and make them better. I'll do my best to learn and protect her.

[kokuyoyo]

...Remember that. [Unlike some others here.] And don't hide things from her....

[That's always what seems to be the problem with the ablutions he's had to go through in the past, besides his own and that of the soulless shinki's. A lack of communication.]

...There's a school. [Turning away, he starts to shuffle off.] If you need more information...

[Adrien smiles and gives a little two fingered salute.]

I'll be sure to. I have no reason to hide anything from her - not that I know anything worth hiding anyway.

[Just the idea of hiding and lying turns his stomach so the act of actually doing it would be worse.]

[An abrupt pause. Oh, right. Manners. And introductions. He always forgets.]

[He's extending his hand for a shake.]

[Begone with your model looks, sir!! Still.... After giving it the eye for longer than is necessary, Chikusa surrenders to a handshake. Enjoy the limp fish gesture.]

What spells does Kairi know....? If she told you.

[Okay that's not how you shake hands but good effort? Adrien doesn't let his expression change in response to the strangeness of that handshake. Then he's drawing his hand away shoving it into his pant pocket.]

Um, I didn't think to really ask her? Not since like all magic is new to me. I figured it didn't matter what she knew. I'd still be starting from scratch.

[You can drag the (minuscule) effort to shake hands from his cold corpse, Adrien. You can drag it.]

I see.... that's true, I guess. Even if she tried to teach you the advanced ones.... it wouldn't work.

[He might try eventually - someday but that day isn't today.]

Well, yeah you have to crawl before you walk right? And even then it's all baby steps.
