Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

[ No 'please' or 'could you', just saying what he'll need before going off to the main building. Which he does find a good place, with mostly dark color themes (which is so much better than that first opening area.) After looking through the place even more, he decides that it's the room he'll lay a claim on.

By braiding his hair while in the bed before even trying to go anywhere and finding this kitchen. He doesn't want it draped around him in the mess that it ended up in, okay?

He'll go find Izumo when it's easier to smell food. It's fine. It's not like he's familiar enough with the phone to start messing with it right now. ]

[Wow, rude much? Fortunately, Izumo is used to such behavior that it doesn't really bug him.

The smell of food is potent enough to have its scent slowly filter out of the kitchen, but when Judar does come to the kitchen, there's food already waiting for him.]

[ At least he explained why he needed those things?

Like everywhere else in this giant temple, even the kitchen is big and sleek and full of things he doesn't really get. What he does understand is that there's food. He'll pull out a stool at that island right away. ]

Why's everything so bright here, anyway? Doesn't seem to be magic.

It's called 'electricity'. I'll give you a rundown of everything here since I'm sure all of it is new to you.

Yeah, a bunch of it is. Like this phone thing.

[ Which he'll pull out of his top and toss onto the island. ]

Is electricity gonna be the reason behind most of the stuff I don't know?

Ah, that is something I'll have to ask you to keep on you in case something happens.

[He gives a nod.]

Most of it, yes.

This thing?

[ He'll just shrug at the request, not making a move to collect it right now. That was in his shirt, so he wants a break from it being on his person. He can see it, so that's good enough. ]

So all the weird stuff in here is connected to the electricity thing, and not just why it's so bright.

It can be rather handy to have.

[Once he actually gets into it.

He gives a nod.]

Exactly so. Not everything here is because of magic.

Yeah, sure.

[ Someday he'll be just like any other annoying teenager with their phone. For now it's just some weird item he's being told to carry.

He'll just move away from the phone and non-magic talk to get him onto other important things. ]

Right, right. So why don't you go and tell me what the things are in here.

[Teenagers.

But listen closely Judar because Izumo will point at each appliance and give their uses, especially with the hint of caution not to set any of them on fire or break them in any way.

He does not need to go out buying appliances because you do not know how to use it.]

[ Yeah, okay, as important as all of this was, it was also getting boring pretty quickly. Also, what kind of person has to point out not to set them on fire? It's not like he really knew how. ]

Okay, okay, I get it. Look, I'm just gonna go back for trying those shinki spells, now that I got a name.

[ ... Judar, you only ate a third of the food on your plate. ]

Shinki spells would work best if you have another shinki to work against. But umbra is a good one for you to test out.

[......He glances at the plate.]

You sure you're full, though?

I mean, they were just teaching that borderline spell.

[ He hasn't even gotten to figuring out there are others. The question has him shrugging. ]

It's enough for what I need. I'll have more of it later, if it's still around.

Right, and how far have you gotten with that?

[...That's not reassuring, Judar.]

Mm, alright.

You can't do borderlines without a shinki name.

[ He watched and tried it out, only to fail before realizing that he needed to fulfill a condition to make it work. Now he can, and it'll be awesome. ]

... Is it gonna be around later?

[ Should he plan for getting and starting to hoard snacks? ]

Just make sure not to hit any of the crows. [Because they're lurking around.]

[ He'll look back at the plate of food before at Izumo before nodding and heading out. He'll believe it more when he comes back to find it still ready for him.

Then again, there's probably going to be a lot of weird and unfortunate expectations from Judar, just based off of the things Izumo had saw in that vision. ]
