December Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: September 25th
Where: Bishamon's temple, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to Bishamon's temple, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a Western-styled reception hall within Bishamon's temple for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior, although the minor deity conducting the meeting is in too much of a rush to take questions afterwards. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki volunteers, both in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's shinki and in Bishamon's red-piped black uniforms, are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanantion on the basics of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Someone has brought two overflowing boxes of back issues of From Ama, the Heavenly magazine, which includes profiles of successful shinki and gods, historical tidbits, and the occasional magazine quiz to help shinki determine how well they're currently working with their god or what their greatest strength might be.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki.

This month, a clever shinki magician has created a dozen straw-stuffed training dummies, some with sword-length sticks and some with polearm-length sticks, that have been enchanted to really fight back. Unfortunately, the spell isn't perfect yet! They're good training partners, but sometimes they might go a little haywire and try to smack passersby.

Rest and Refreshments

Along with bottled water, there are several large boxes of energy drinks and vitamin drinks in small amber glass bottles, and an array of protein bars and meal bars. One particular shinki in white, a bespectacled twentysomething man, is explaining the health benefits of everything on the table (even the water!) with great enthusiasm to any guest who looks even a little confused. It takes great tact to discourage him.

Party games have been set up on the lawn near the refreshments table: Twister, Kubb, lawn Jenga, and more.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Play some games
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

Shinki training 1, late to the party

That thing is more useful than it looks like.

[ Here comes a surprise unsolicited advise from that blue dude who just teleported in right next to Judar. Caster means the pamphlet, though - not the wand golden thing with a crystal. ]

Which thing? If you mean this-

[ Which he'll wave the wand with a bit too much casual air than he should. ]

Then I figured as much. If you mean the stupid papers getting handed out... They're still dumb.

Eh, still better then hours and hours of lecture, if you ask me. [ You can read it at your leisure at home. Like when you can't sleep and need something better than just counting sheep ] I bet they wouldn't be able to make it listenable even if they tried.

[ That would require some good crowd control skills ]

A pretty thing you got yourself there. [ Now he is talking about the wand ]

[ Ah, yeah. That stupid paper, then. He'll hold onto it for a little while for reference, forget everything that didn't interest him and toss it another day. Now he can see the shift in talking about the pamphlet to the wand, to which Judar feels pride for (in the item, not his observational skills.) ]

Pretty and impressive, yeah? I'd bet that you would have to be damn awesome to have something like this.

[ He's not even trying to think about his history, so much as commenting in a way that would inflate his ego and/or importance past 'newly awakened shinki.'

The only trick was... remembering how to use it. That or just figuring it out in general. Either would work, and it seemed like the latter option was likely to happen sooner off of the info in that stupid pamphlet. ]

[ Caster could indulge him, or tease the new kid instead-- guess which decision he makes ]

Ah, I've got something similar. Less shiny but- [ he materializes the ornamental staff out of thin air, because what is being careful about mana spending. ] -oak is pretty good too.

[ At least for a druid. ]

[ Well, it was a surprise to see someone do that- y'know, use real magic, past these basic things that shinki had to learn. The decent thing to do was to be honest and respectful, and all of that.

Judar stifles a laugh. ]

It looks like you pulled it out of a pile of twigs.

I'd like to see a tree that sheds twigs like this! [ It would probably have to be quite massive of a tree. ]

Gold is pretty and shiny, sure- [ He nods into Judar's direction ] But it doesn't hold fire too well. See, it melts.

[ And fire tends to be his go-for when using magic. ]

[personal profile] kuroi_taiyo 2018-01-18 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
And wood catches. Why would you have the fire on it in the first place?

[ That's dumb. You should be able to just create it in the air and send it at people without risking it on yourself. ]

[personal profile] futhark 2018-01-18 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly, it catches- that's the point! [ And keeps being on fire. Why it doesn't get burned down to ashes is of course completely different point- wouldn't be a magic staff otherwise- and yeah he demonstrates and with quickly drawn rune he sets the staff aflame, wielding it as if nothing wrong was going wrong with it. ]

It's useful for close-range combat situations. [ And it's flashy. Sorry. That's another important reason. But yeah, wooden staff on it's own doesn't look like a very impressive weapon ]

[ There was a point to it all, in some way, and in a way it sort of looked cool. So naturally he wanted to have a way of dousing those flames. Which he didn't know how to do, yet, so he dismisses it with a nonchalant shrug. ]

Well, using magic for close combat's as dumb as heat magic.

[ About 60% of the reason for this combat is that, while he has a wand, he doesn't actually know how to use it yet. ]

[ Pffft, you're just jelly you're not so dedicated to your latent pyromania. Also close-combat is cool, way way way cooler than any kind of magic, kids these days, have no idea what real fun is ]

Ooh, then which type of magic is better? [ Shameless magic inquires are a go. ]
kuroi_taiyo: (4)

[personal profile] kuroi_taiyo 2018-01-23 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Except he's more blue than red, so even if he were dedicated he wouldn't have such a natural ease towards pyromania. ]

Plenty. Ice, lightning, gravity, wind... Those kinds sound way more appealing.
futhark: (grin)

[personal profile] futhark 2018-01-23 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So weather control, you mean! Wind does sound good. [ It could have some creative applications. All of them would- ] Go on, demonstrate.

[ Oh yeah, go ahead and put him on the spot. Except he has no qualms or shame about stepping down from that, given that he can't show anything off yet. ]

You expect a new shinki to know how to do that right away?

[personal profile] futhark 2018-01-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
...you might have a point! [ Sick burn, using shinki status here. No, really, it's a good answer. Which is why Caster is not going to continue convincing him. Instead have an attempted pat in the shoulder, and a short laugh ]

But you seem knowledgeable enough, so it was easy to overlook. Especially with those strong opinions!

[personal profile] kuroi_taiyo 2018-02-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I just named anything else that sounded like it'd be better than heat.

[ He's certainly giving a look to where you patted him- Is this supposed to be him making friends? Ew. ]

When some of it's figured out, I'll find you to show off.
futhark: (75)

[personal profile] futhark 2018-02-04 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ If you dislike friendmaking, it can also be used as an ultimate annoyance. See, how many various uses for one skill? ]

Fine, I'm looking forward to it!

[ Instead of a threat, he sees it more as a promise. ]
