[ That took her by surprise. To not only be thanked, but to actually have her advice be helpful. ]

Eh? Really...?

[ She'd be lying if she said that didn't make her a little happy. ]

You don't..you don't need to owe me for that! I'm just glad it helped..

[ Her thumb rubs over the other, but she's smiling now despite still fidgeting.]

I've..been alright.

[ Which wasn't a lie. Sure there were a few bumps, like earlier, but all things considered she wasn't doing too bad. It helped that she had her shinki to keep her company, along with some others who happened to be around when she needed it.]

I've never been to a party like this before. I still feel a little nervous, actually.

It's got a hand in getting me kind of used to this role so... I'd say it's pretty big.

[ Sometimes things are just a matter of perspective, as he finds. The bit about her being alright does earn a nod back before he stares into the crowd again. ]

Parties like this are a little above my league. I've never really seen anything this fancy unless it was something my superior had a hand in.

[ Johann Faust V is a very very fancy man. ]

Your superior..?

[Did he work for some really rich person maybe? He seemed pretty young though...then again, there were kids his age working for mafia families already.]

Yeah. I don't suppose you've ever heard of a school called True Cross Academy? It's run by a man named Johann Faust V.

[ Well... officially at least. But no, nothing as complicated as mafia. Secret order of exorcists run by the Vatican and masquerading as a school though... ]

He's a little eccentric and has expensive tastes to say the least. A party like this is really more his style.

No..I don't think so.

[That was a fancy name though, for both the school and his superior.]

Was he a good boss?

He was...

[ Uh... how... best to put this... ]

Ah.. Competent when he needed to be.

[ An otaku, a cheapskate, a demon... never seemed to take anything seriously... but the man knew what he was doing when it came down to business. ]

[The way he struggled to find a neutral enough word to describe the man gave her more of an idea of what he might be like.]

Ah...that's...I see.

[She's mentally giving Yukio a pat on the shoulder.]

I was quite surprised at how young a lot of the older goods look..

[ Hey, he may be in another world but his boss was still his boss.

That and he probably has ears everywhere.

He's grateful for the topic change though. ]

Yeah.. to be honest, I wasn't expecting Amaterasu to be so young. I guess when it comes to gods... looks can be deceiving.

In more ways than one..

[She takes another sip of her water as she looks into the building.]

She didn't feel like a kid though. More mature than a lot of adults.

I wonder if she's always been that way. In all the stories I've ever heard about her, she's never been described as someone that young...

[ But then, he's dealt with demons who look much younger than they actually are. ]

You've heard stories of her before?

[Alex hadn't even heard of the goddess's name until she got here. Then again, there was plenty she didn't know about.]

She's one of the primary goddesses of shinto, if not the most powerful.

[ Hey, he can't blame you if you don't know her. But he'll be more than happy to tell you what he knows. ]

Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun and brother to Tsukiyomi, the god of the moon. She and her brother and their third sibling Susano'o were birthed from the god Izanagi when he entered the underworld. Amaterasu was born from the washing of his left eye, Tsukiyomi from his right and Susano'o from... the nose.

[ Yeah he's serious about that bit. ]

So... yeah. She's a pretty important figure.

[What else was she supposed to say? To think such important gods came from something as simple as washing your face in the morning or having a cold...]

About your god...do you know much about him?

[Granted, it was satan, but other than the basics, was there more to him?]

[ His expression visibly darkens from that question. He's a licensed exorcist... of course he knows about Satan.

But he's silent a moment. ]

In my world... Satan is the god of a world called Gehenna - hell, as it's more commonly known as. I'm sure you might have some representation of the devil where you come from.

[ There's a shift in tone as he speaks. It's quiet. Low. This one's less casual than his retelling of Amaterasu's story. ]

But it isn't like most legends say. Satan's real. He's killed hundreds of people... and he's more dangerous than any demon is.

[Oh. That..may have been a mistake. The mood was noticeably heavier, and there was a tension in the air. The expression on his face was..painful.

Satan definitely had his reputation, and really, there were quite a number of devils back where she was from. It made sense that Yukio wasn't exactly fond of who he was assigned as. The way he described it though, it almost sounded personal.]

But you're not...

[ It's certainly personal. ]

...I'm human.

[ There's a definite certainty in how he says this - almost like enforcing it is an attempt to convince himself as well as Alex.

Satan was the demon that sired him and his twin brother, after all. It's a part of him he's been trying to deny but here, being actually placed in his "father's" place is causing him to confront it head on. ]

It was Satan attempting to leave Gehenna and enter Assiah, that caused an incident known as The Blue Night. Many were injured and an equal number died from being unable to withstand being possessed by him.

[She wasn't trying to say otherwise. As evil as the god he was assigned to be was, Yukio seemed nothing like that. As he continued to speak, she only grew more confused. This was...a little beyond her. What kind of world had he come from exactly?]

H-hang on..what you're saying...he was a real..being in your world?

Yeah. He's real.

[ It's reflex. The minute people associate him to Satan, naturally they would ask if he was human... even if the sentence involved wasn't asking about his parentage.

There's a small smile though. ]

But... your advice helped. Even if I was put in his place when I came here, it didn't mean I had to take up the mantle completely..

[ He isn't his father... ]

[That wasn't something she was normally thanked for.]

It probably wouldn't make up for all the hurt he had caused, but...I'm sure you can make a difference.

[If there was anything Alex knew, it was that even small acts came a long way.]

[ ...a difference... ]

...if any of the ayakashi I've managed to take down so far were any indication, I really hope so. For all we know, we're probably doing some kind of good from being here.

That..would be nice for a change...

[Doing good this time..that's what she was going for, wasn't she?]
