[open mingle] it's fine if i'm weak, it's fine if my fist is ordinary

Who: Maria and anyone who wants to show up!
When: October 8th
Where: Sparkle Motion Studio, in downtown Tokyo
What: A mingle log for the combative dance class Maria proposed a while ago. Feel free to toplevel and thread amongst yourselves as well as with her!

[It's been a few weeks since Maria asked for expressions of interest, but she's finally found the time to put the finishing touches on her class. There are some flyers around Tokyo in hopes she'll draw the attention of some Near Shore participants as well, but this first one is mainly for Far Shore people, and the flyers pinned up in noticeable places around the Heavens and posted in plain text on the BBS that morning are a sign of that.]

Combat Dance Class
October 9th, 6PM, Sparkle Motion Studio

Inspirations from capoeira, mixed martial arts, ballet, and many more!
All skill levels welcome, beginners encouraged
Group and one-on-one training
Personalised training regimens available on request

[The address of Sparkle Motion is posted at the bottom of the flyer, with a helpful map indicating nearby landmarks and streets. Maria will also have personally contacted anyone who previously expressed interest - she did promise to keep them up to date on it, after all.]

[Group Training]

[After everyone has arrived and is spaced out within the roomy, bright studio, Maria starts the class. The first moves are very simple ones to repeat - some stretches to promote flexibility when repeated regularly, some basic and graceful kicks and evasive rolls, and even a flip or two, though she warns that those might need working up to for anyone at the beginner stages. The moves all flow together cleanly, creating a consistent run of motion like a dance itself, and Maria singles them out one by one to make sure everyone understands. It's clear that she's intimately familiar with the movements, and experienced in both the sides of dance and melee combat.

But that's not always how it goes. Doing it wrong? Need a correction? Or doing it well enough that you could be an example to the people around you? Maria's not going to stop anyone helping out amongst themselves - it's part of why having a large group is so useful here.]

--

[One-on-one]

[Later in the class, Maria divides people into pairs, shuffling them every so often. You could end up with a friend, or someone you don't even know, or both in the space of about ten minutes. Pairs are instructed to practice strikes and evades in turn - one member strikes, one evades, then switch every minute or two. However, more creative uses for the one-on-one matchups are encouraged, such as developing the new techniques further or stringing them together in different ways to create new attack sequences and motions.

Just try not to argue over who's doing a better job, or Maria might need to step in.]

--

[Cool-down]

[The last few minutes of the class are dedicated to lower-impact stretches, more graceful and dance-adjacent than much of the rest of the movements, so everyone can get the tension out of their system. There's a table set up at the back of the room with water, sports drinks and fresh fruit for anyone who wants to hang around for a little while afterwards, either to discuss the class, rejuvenate before heading home, or just catch up with everyone else.

Maria will also be available to talk to during this time, for anyone interested in setting up a training regimen for themselves or requesting her training outside of the set classes. There's a timetable of the currently planned schedule - twice a week, with one morning and one afternoon class each of those days - on the wall behind the refreshments table.]

"Yeah, sure." Tsuzuki winced his way up from the floor, step by step, and collapsed dramatically on the wall, blowing out his breath. Amazing, really, how soreness lingered when actual injuries healed in a flash. He could've done with a little fast healing for his hip.

"You're pretty good at this," he added, drew in a determined breath, and pushed himself away from the wall to stand upright.

Sure. He could do this. The water table wasn't that far away.

Viktor just laughed. "I'm not sure about good, really, but thank you! I do try my best."

He had to look at Tsuzuki in concern, though.

"You sure you want to walk over there? I can get you something and bring it back, no sense in pushing yourself. If stretching doesn't help we might need to ask for someone to come help you."

But he had to admire the guy's determination either way!

"I'll manage, seriously!" It wasn't like waiting would help. Tsuzuki grinned, only a little pale, and began hobbling in the direction of the water table. "But you are good. Have you done a lot of fighting here?"

A fellow shinki couldn't answer any questions about what he'd done before -- but at least he'd know whether he had recent experience, right?

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-01-29 04:03 am (UTC)(link)

"Not really! Some basic Shinki training, but I try to focus mostly on borderlines and other spells. I'm not really a fan of hitting, but I do seem to have a knack for dancing. Probably helps with this!"

He followed a couple steps behind until they got to the table, a hand extended in concern the whole way.

"How about you? Anything you like doing at the training sessions?"

Because this was undoubtedly fun (for some more than others!) but Viktor's ultimate goal was to be better for his tiny god.

"Magic," Tsuzuki said with a shrug. He was hobbling less by the time they got to the table, but he tossed Viktor an appreciative grin for the offer of support anyway. He really was a nice guy.

(Unfairly good-looking, too. That hair! That smile.)

It was no wonder Katsuki'd been so worried about making sure he wound up with a god who'd be good for him.

"I'm not too bad at dodging, either, but -- well, I kind of wanted to be able to do more in a fight than just throw around spells. There's too much I don't know about them to rely on that."

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-01-30 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
(Pffft, Tsuzuki was pretty handsome himself! And Viktor would be sure to tell him, too. He liked telling people they were attractive, it made him feel good and the people usually reacted extremely cutely!)

"True! I should really focus on sparring more. I've tried it before and didn't die, so I'm evidently doing something right, but it's still pretty new to me. I think this group should help, though!"

Because what could be better for one's body and spirit than group exercise? It probably also helped with flexibility.

"If you'd ever like to try sparring a little, I can always use the practice! Some of the Shinki who are more skilled have told me a few handy tricks, so I think we should be all rught if we practice."
sweetdeath: (sometimes the sun)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-01-31 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah?" Tsuzuki blinked, intrigued. "What kind of tricks?"

He'd heard of the spells shinki were supposed to be able to learn, but he hadn't really spent much time learning them so far. Borderlines were good enough, and besides, figuring out his own magic was taking up most of his free time.

He'd still like to learn to throw a punch or a kick without hurting himself worse than his target, though. Someday, he suspected, he might need to know.

Boo to my screen reader missing that typo! Gomen

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-01-31 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)

"Oh, nothing too special! Just some blocks and ways to get out of holds that I'd never have thought of myself!"

Spells? Nah. Viktor could manage basic borderlines, but his magical prowess stopped there. He hadn't needed to use it yet, and his vessel form was rather effective so he did try not to worry, but...

"I really need to get more serious about training! Should my god ever need me I'd really like to be more useful."

sweetdeath: (roguish grin)

No worries! I actually didn't even spot it...

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-01-31 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Tsuzuki sighed. "Yeah -- I've got to figure out how to be more useful, too." Sakura was a healer, not a fighter. Yamanbagiri and Charlotte were both strong, and then there was Tsuzuki, who was supposed to be their senior, and who wasn't nearly as much help in a fight.

He shook his head. "So sure! We can spar. When's good for you? I'm usually free in the morning...."
leapingchuu: (Default)

<3 also help me they're really cute

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-01-31 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Awww, I'm sure you're very useful! Not all of us can be fighters, after all."

Nope. Some shinki knitted sweaters for their temples' butterflies! Super useful to the heavens at large.

"And even if we're not, we can train until we are! Or at least an approximation!"

He grinned, then, feeling slightly giddy about it all. Tsuzuki was really adorable and Vitkor was looking forward to this. He hoped he wasn't being too obvious about it...

"Mornings are fine with me! I usually wake up early anyway, and it's my job to take some grain and fruit out the butterflies at Emizel's temple so I can easily come meet you after that!"
sweetdeath: (friendship and flowers)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-01-31 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"At least enough to back our gods up in a tight spot," Tsuzuki agreed, clapping the other man on the shoulder with a grin. Early wasn't the best way to describe when he woke up -- or when he went to bed -- but early-ish might be okay.

He fumbled his phone out of his pocket and prodded at it, frowning with his tongue-tip between his teeth until he found his calendar.

"Okay -- I work late at the bar most nights, but how about nine-thirty day after tomorrow? Or, no, wait. The day after that."
leapingchuu: (Default)

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-01-31 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Two days from tomorrow, got it! Anyplace special you'd like to meet? We could get some breakfast first!"

Because "before sunrise" was generally when Viktor got up, but he would definitely appreciate some time to hang out with the butterflies beforehand. Would help him not to be nervous, hopefully.

Tooootally not a date. Nope. He just wanted to make sure they both had the necessary energy, after all!

"Here, I can give you my number just in case! Let me go find my bag, back in a second!"

He was trying to hide what had to be the prominent blush on his face, judging by the sudden heat there. Oh well, he could probably pass it off as a flush from the exercise if he had to!
sweetdeath: (abuh?)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-01-31 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That was unmistakably a blush. And -- wait, they were getting breakfast first, too?

Was this a date? No, no way. Tsuzuki had to be misinterpreting it; after all, he'd only talked to Viktor a few times, and there was no way he was in the league of a guy with Viktor's charisma.

(If it were a date, though... well, that would be okay with him.)

He grinned, feeling a little awkward suddenly, and flipped over to his contacts list while Viktor got his phone out.

"Breakfast sounds good. There's this cafe I found-- they've got great bread, plus their tea's not bad. Or coffee? Do you drink coffee? I'll give you my number too...."
leapingchuu: (Default)

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-02-01 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Honestly? I drink pretty much anything in the morning! Not at all choosy, but that does sound really good!"

Viktor finally managed to get his phone out from under the layers of clothes in his gym bag, using it to avoid meeting Tsuzuki's eyes since he knew he looked more than a little disheleved at the moment. But it felt nice. It had been awhile since he'd been truly attracted to someone and he found himself very happy about the idea of them getting to talk before they set to sparring.

With a sheepish smile he gave Tsuzuki his number and then pulled up his contact list to make a new entry.
sweetdeath: (staring at the sun)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-02-01 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Tsuzuki punched it in, and offered his own in return as he dropped his phone back into his pocket. His smile was shy.

"It's the Ishii bakery," he added, "about half a block down if you turn right out of the Hachiko gate at Shibuya Station, then go right again. Wanna meet up by the statue? It's traditional!"

And usually, because of that, crowded: but traditional, nonetheless.
leapingchuu: (Default)

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-02-02 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Sure! His story makes me sad, but he was such a cute dog that his statue makes me happy. I'm not sure if that's wrong of me or not!"

He hoped it wasn't, though, since dogs were absolutely amazing.

His own smile was equally shy as he tried to think of a smooth way to answer.

"I'm glad you'll be there to show me the way! Tokyo is so crowded it can be hard to figure out where to go."

Well. Not that smooth and probably made him sound a little stupid, but there was nothing for it now!
sweetdeath: (honest smile)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-02-02 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
"It is!" Tsuzuki agreed, rubbing the back of his neck. "It really is. I'm just learning my way around it myself."

Wherever he'd lived, before, it must not have been Tokyo -- he stops himself before that thought can form completely, and settles on a shrug instead. "But the statue's awfully cute, isn't it? Even if it's a sad story. Do you like dogs?"

Maybe he'd be able to introduce Viktor to Buddy, then. The bar dog was still skinny, less than a week rescued from being a back-alley stray, but with the way they were all fussing over him Tsuzuki was sure he'd be a pampered-looking pet before too long. And he had a great personality.
leapingchuu: (Default)

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-02-02 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"I love dogs! I must have had them when I was alive..."

But he stopped, not wanting to tempt the Fates or whatever forces were at work. There had been enough incidents recently...

"They're just so happy and friendly! People could take inspiration from them, really."

Because Viktor sure did.
sweetdeath: (oshit topped!)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-02-03 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Tsuzuki winced, flinching from the statement even as Viktor swiftly changed the subject. There was just something about mentioning the past that creeped him out. Even another shinki's, even if it were only hypothetical.

Eager to follow the subject change, he nodded, instead. "Yeah, living like a dog is living the good life, I'd say. We've actually got one at the bar where I work. He's just a stray who stopped by for some scraps, but we took him in..."

He pulled his phone back out, and fiddled with it until he found the photo app to show off a few grainy, ill-lit but enthusiastic photos of a medium-haired, scruffy mutt with his tongue lolling happily out.

[personal profile] leapingchuu 2018-02-03 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll have to forgive him for grabbing the phone over your hands, Tsuzuki. He sees doggo and must immediately become a two year old about it in his excitement.

"Awwww, he's so cute! So good of you to take him in."

And then he looked at the screen again and cooed without any shame whatsoever.

"Who's a good boy? Yeah, it's you! Does he have a name?"
sweetdeath: (friendship and flowers)

[personal profile] sweetdeath 2018-02-03 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it's 'Buddy.' He's mostly Gojyo's dog, but I keep thinking I should get one for Sakura's temple."

Didn't everyone like dogs? And the only reason Buddy was Gojyo's was because Gojyo was still living at the bar, after he'd broken things off with his god. It was good that he had some company there. He was trying to put a brave face on it, just like he had with his arm, but Tsuzuki could tell he was upset.

And even if he didn't know how to deal with the upset, a dog couldn't hurt.
