Who: Add & whoever wants to run into him!
Where: Various places around the Near Shore
When: After dark, anytime between March 30th and April 4th (feel free to specify!)
What: The former time traveller is terrible at keeping track of time, which can be a problem when staying out too late means ayakashi are roaming about...
Warnings: None yet (besides Add being Add), but (obviously) there will be fighting! I'll update this if needed.
Also feel free to use a different format if you'd like and I'll follow! I just like prose when it's all action anyway...
There are a lot of reasons for why Add might have wandered out of his room today. Collecting supplies for his research, grabbing some new books, restocking his private supply of delicious sweets...
Whatever it was, he's regretting it. Time flies by, and before he knows it the sky is dark and dotted with stars. It's a beautiful night that he's sure his moon god would appreciate, but as a lone, unarmed shinki, it's not a night he wants to spend on the wrong Shore. He could just call his god for an escort back to the temple, but he'd probably get scolded for staying out so late... so wouldn't it be better to just hurry back before anyone notices?
It's a good plan... assuming he doesn't run into any trouble.

He's trying to be careful, but he still gets caught off guard. The creature lunges at him, cuts off his escape route, moves too fast for him to even hope to run from—the only option he has is to fight.
Which means he's screwed, since he... really, really can't. Can't kill it without a god, definitely can't fight it unarmed. That thing would chew through his arm if he even thought about coming close to it.
So the only thing left to do is to draw a border to protect himself. Add manages to hastily swipe one out before he gets mauled, but it's not going to last forever. One border can only block one side. Even if he somehow manages to hold this ayakashi off, what if another one comes at him from behind? He'd be completely defenceless.
His mind races as he tries to think of a solution, concentration split by the border he's still maintaining to keep himself in one piece. If someone doesn't show up soon, he might have no choice but to call for his god...
[ B ]
Somehow, against all odds, Add outran the thing that was chasing him.
He's not safe yet, of course, but he's not exactly built for long distance running. He's bent over and panting heavily from exhaustion, trying desperately to catch his breath. And maybe figure out where he is. He stopped paying attention to where he was going after the hungry ayakashi spotted him, so he's not really sure where the closest shrine would be... or how quickly he can force his legs to bring him there.
Hopefully he can get some directions before it catches up.
[ C ]
He avoids a confrontation with any ayakashi, and the road to the nearest shrine looks to be clear. It would be a perfect, flawless escape... until he's struck by a sudden dizzy spell.
He has no choice but to stop, leaning heavily on a nearby post to keep himself from collapsing, trying to ignore the waves of nausea and fear washing over him. Add still hasn't figured out why these fits keep happening, but talk about awful timing. The shrine is only a couple minutes away, if he could just pull through for a little longer...
... but he's not quite confident enough to stand on his own. Experience tells him the discomfort will pass if he waits it out. He slowly slides down to the ground, pulling in his legs to appear smaller—less chance of being spotted by an ayakashi, hopefully. If he were attacked as he is now, it's doubtful he'd be able to defend himself.

Okay, this time he has an excuse. He's out late again, sure, but he has a good reason for it and it was completely outside of his control. Even as he watches the sky start to dark around him, it's impossible for him to even consider heading home.
Because Genos hasn't yet.
And really, wouldn't it be irresponsible of him to ignore a fellow shinki wandering the streets unattended? Genos could get attacked and hurt! Who would jump in to call for help and make sure he gets out okay?? Of course, Add would only need to step in like that if something bad happened, so in this case it's perfectly acceptable for him to watch the cyborg from the shadows (or, to be more specific, from the cover of a high treebranch). Maybe take some discreet pictures while he's here, too. Oh, and if Genos does get injured, wouldn't that mean Add would get to operate on him...?!
Although, Genos really should consider heading home soon. Add's nightvision is pretty good, but it's harder to make out the finer details in the dark. Ah, he should've brought a flashlight just in case he has to perform mechanical work in the dark... maybe look for a better nightvision camera as well...
He's so wrapped up in his thoughts and watching Genos that he hasn't even notice the giant, neon-pink creature crawling up along the side of his tree yet. It's large enough to be a bear, though the long bushy tail trailing behind it suggests a different kind of animal. It's pretty hard to miss.

a-the most useless rescue
What he found next, though wasn't a stray animal, but rather a stray shinki being attacked by an ayakashi. There was a border in front of the kid, but it didn't look like it was going to last very long, and the monster was getting angrier by the second.
At just the moment the barrier snapped, Kuroko had picked up a tennis ball from the street and threw it at the ayakashi's head as hard as he could. "Run!"
iyaaa my hero
His barrier won't hold much longer. Even if he calls Roxas for help, would it be too late? Add looks around desperately, but there's not a soul in sight, he's completely alone—
The border finally breaks. Add can only yelp, stumbling backwards as the ayakashi lunges...
And catches a tennis ball in its mouth.
It lands next to him, temporarily distracted and confused by the chewy yellow ball. Add is also confused, but jumps when someone shouts at him. He spins around to spot the ball-thrower.
"Where did you—?" Wait, what the hell is he doing? Add shakes off the surprise to make a mad dash towards his rescuer, glancing back once to make sure the ayakashi is still distracted. There isn't a lot left of that ball...
More important question than how he got here— "Are you a god or a shinki?!"
no subject
Kuroko didn't answer at first, just grabbing the older kid's arm and dragging him away. The ayakashi barely even noticed him, but Add would be a problem. "I'm Arikado-sama's shinki. I apologize, but I can't do more than....help you escape."
What he was really looking for was a safe place to run to, because a roar from behind them meant that the ayakashi was done with the tennis ball.
no subject
But he'd really prefer to avoid getting mauled...
Another shinki, though. He didn't want to serve a second god anyway, but they're still in a lot of danger. The average canine ran faster than the average human, and Add was somewhere below average when it came to running speeds. Would an ayakashi dog be faster than a normal dog or slower? Add didn't really want to find out.
He tugged on Kuroko's hand, trying to free himself from the other's grip. If they couldn't run, maybe a distraction would work.
"Draw a borderline! If we layer both of ours together, it should be able to stop it!" He had no idea if that was actually how it worked, but whatever. A second layer of reinforcement should work, theoretically. As long as it held long enough for him to roll out the next part of his plan, he didn't really care.
no subject
But...ah, crap, he didn't know what Add was talking about. Should he call Arikado-sama?" I'm sorry, but I don't know how to draw a borderline. I haven't actually fought an ayakashi."
no subject
"What the hell kind of shinki are you?!" He probably shouldn't shout at the guy who just saved his life, but he couldn't help it. Borderlines were the most basic ability that any shinki could use, even an idiot should be able to draw a simple line. But this guy couldn't even draw one weak little border?
Add groaned, dragging his free hand down his face as they continued to run. So much for his plan...
The snarling and barking behind them was steadily getting closer. Dogs were definitely still faster. They won't be able to run forever.
Alright, fine, onto plan C. They were coming up along a row of trees, so Add broke free from Kuroko's grasp and latched onto the first one that looked tall enough, scrambling up with a surprising degree of dexterity. Dogs can't climb, right?
"Make yourself useful and keep it distracted!" he shouted down from his safe perch.
no subject
The thing sniffed around the base of the tree and growled at Add before it turned on the much easier prey, the blue-haired boy who had stayed there frozen in place. This wasn't even a good time to think about how he didn't know what a borderline or how this guy had just abandoned him to the monster, so Kuroko just dived to the side and rolled in the grass as the dog monster leaped forward.
He picked himself up again painfully, running suddenly when the dog was snapping at his heels again. Kuroko could do nothing but run the thing around in a circle, and he certainly knew it wasn't going to last long before he got eaten. "What are you doing?!"
no subject
Not do the one thing Add needed him to do. He hissed out an irritated sigh, pulling up his legs some more.
"What are you doing?!" he shouted back. "Don't just run around in circles, lead it away from here!"
It was the perfect escape plan, leading the creature away with the other shinki as bait... but it was a bit cruel. Kuroko seemed much more skilled before. Maybe that was just beginner's luck that the ayakashi got hit and distracted when he threw the ball? If this guy couldn't even draw a border, he couldn't be very experienced.
... The situation below was only getting more desperate, and seeing Kuroko run around fearfully was starting to make Add feel guilty. Ugh. Barely thirty seconds in and his plan was already falling to pieces. If Kuroko won't even lead it away, continuing with this strategy was pointless.
Using the height to his advantage, Add swiped out another border from above, cutting a neat line between ayakashi and shinki while Kuroko was on the right side of him. It won't last long, but he could still hold it up for a little while...!
"Stop acting like an idiot and get up here!" Plan D. Hopefully that would be the last letter he'd need tonight.
D!! April 3rd most likely
Not that he has plan what to spend it on anyway. But it's good to save up, and have some emergency stash of money in case something comes up. Like broken phone.
He's ready to leave and head into the direction of the temple, when he notices the.... thing.
That huge ayakashi thing slowly climbing at the tree, menacingly. Of course, as a good shinki, first action should be setting a border, then contacting his god to help with cleaning the mess. But it's Genos, and his first instinct is to open literal fire at the ayakashi and tree it's attached to.
no subject
But Genos doesn't even hesitate before pointing his hands at the tree, a bright orange glow building in his body. Add has already seen this before, so he knows what to expect, but to think Genos would try to kill him like this for something so petty...!
"W-wait, I can explain!" he shrieks, floundering to throw himself out of the tree before it goes up in flames. He leaps and rolls to the ground just in time to avoid getting burnt into a fine ash like that ayakashi from last time.
... and then he notices something else is shrieking, and looks back to see a giant monster shaking off the flames as it, too, scrambles down from the tree. That's... about where he was sitting, just a moment ago...
Unfortunately, this one seems to be much hardier than that small fry Genos took down last month. The fire seems to bother it, but it doesn't look like it was damaged. It raises its nose to the air when it touches ground again, looking between both Add and Genos.
... he's sure they both smell nice, but Add is still closer and more vulnerable. Snapping back to his senses, Add draws a line between himself and the ayakashi before turning to Genos.
"Do something!"
no subject
Now that explains why the ayakashi was climbing the tree. A very tasty treat, of a shinki was sitting on it. Maybe Add was running away, and tree seemed safe? Either way, the question why Add was on a tree, can be asked later.
Genos draws another line to stop the ayakashi from attacking. It's sturdier and more effective. Is he getting better at it? Then he lunges forward and grabs Add by his clothes from under that tree.
"Is your god somewhere nearby?" Two shinkis are quite useless on their own. So annoying.
no subject
He flails a little when he's suddenly grabbed by the back of his hoodie, but it's not like he didn't just ask Genos to save his ass. He tries to right himself as soon as possible, clinging to the cyborg's arm so he's not being dragged as embarrassingly. He's probably still being dragged, though.
Add's border starts to waver as soon as the creature slams into it to get at him, so it's a good thing Genos puts his down when he does. The second tackle that would've shattered Add's line is met with much stronger resistance—he really would be dead right now if he was fighting this thing alone. Maybe he should ask Genos about his training techniques and work on his own borders...
This isn't really a long term solution, though. Even if the border holds, they can't hide behind it while moving.
Add bites his lip. "No, I've been by myself." He'd been annoyed by Roxas following him or tracking him down before, but this is really one of those times when it would've been handy, so of course Roxas hasn't shown up. "What about yours?"
no subject
"Why does it always happen when I'm alone" he groans absolutely pissed off. He's been patrolling recently with Saitama, and barely anything happened. But now, when he was only doing his small part-time job of course one of the biggest ayakashi had to appear. And his only partner was another shinki without his god.
Genos takes his phone and starts furiously writing on it. They're in the middle of nowhere, well not literally, but it lacks any discernible landmarks he could tell Saitama to drop by.
Oh, wait. There is that big park somewhere around, and it should be quite empty at this hour. Yeah, that's the location he forwards to Saitama.
"We have to lure it into a park. We'll meet with my god there." Park. Again. "Ready for a run?"
no subject
It is a squirrel, after all.
Add looks up nervously. The boundary doesn't seem to have an vertical limit, but horizontally...
At least Genos seems to know what he's doing (aside from how they just abandoned a huge blaze, again). The idea of a run alone makes Add feel sore, but he just sighs and holds back his complaints for once. Not the time.
"As long as it's not too far," he grumbles. Okay, holding back most of his complaints. "That barrier won't keep it out if it can climb around. Let's go."
no subject
After traversing a longer distance he will take a look behind, remembering that he's not running alone.
no subject
Not that it's very comfortable for Add, either. He manages to get both arms wrapped around Genos', though he still can't help but feel like he's going to slip off and tumble to his death at any moment. He doesn't even want to look back to see how close that ayakashi is to them now.
no subject
"We need to lose it somehow." he grabs Add by the collar to make sure he won't lose him after what he does next. "Hold tight." That's the only instruction Genos offers to him.
The back of his shoulders open and change shape as the boosters get activated and suddenly they're not just running, but are propelled forward with much higher speed. Thankfully the road ahead is straight and empty. Or at least that's what Genos expects it to be, because when he looks back to see how much of distance they are from the ayakashi---
They crash into a parking lot full rent-a-bike bicycles, and it takes good few meters of them before they finally stop. At least they're at the entrance of park now.
no subject
And his train of thought is abruptly cut off when they go crashing head-on into a (literal) lot of bikes.
He groans, sore but thankful that Genos soaked up most of the impact. Okay, paying attention again.
"Watch where you're going," he grumbles pointlessly, dusting himself off a bit as he tries to pull himself back onto his feet. "How soon is your god going to be here?"
The ayakashi seems to have fallen behind... but he doesn't like the fact that he can't spot it staring down the road they came from, either. It would be way too easy if it gave up after all that trouble.
no subject
The silence is unnerving. Scanners don't pick any movement either.
"It could fall back, but--" that would be too good to be true. And they mostly dashed straight ahead, so not really a way to get something lost.
"We could hide, in two different spots. See if that would confuse him." Did it notice Add because Add was being noticeable, or because it could smell delicious shinki? Only one way to find out.
no subject
If it caught Add alone instead of Genos, he would almost certainly be killed. That thing seemed stronger than most of the common ayakashi, so even a physically strong shinki would struggle with it. Add would be snapped in two within seconds of meeting that creature's jaws. Gambling on Genos being targeted first, if at all, is too risky.
If he stays with Genos, though, his chance of survival is much higher... Genos could be used as a human shield or sacrifice in a dire situation, and has better means of fleeing a situation quickly. Also, if Add still ends up dying at least he'd be less likely to die alone. Taking someone else down with him feels morbidly reassuring. Dying in the arms of a beautiful cyborg also sounds more appealing.
He nods to his own inner thoughts with determination, clinging to Genos' arm even more fervently than before.
"I'll never leave your side," Add hisses into his bicep.
C!
He was having trouble concentrating, something seeming off as usual since he had gotten here, but his efforts were interrupted when he felt a presence nearby. Frowning, with branch in hand, he decides to make his way to wherever the other person was.
Which takes a while because the person kept obviously moving, not because Zoro was lost.
When he finally reaches Add he's on the floor, and slightly easy to miss. Zoro looks at what appears to be a boy, but he can't be sure from where he's standing, and the lack of light isn't helping.
"Hey, you," as eloquent as ever, "what are you doing there?"
no subject
Are there gods that are territorial? He has no idea. This could be dangerous, but it's not like he's in any condition to get up and leave, let alone defend himself. He makes a sound halfway between a sigh and a groan, allowing his head to droop back down.
"I don't want trouble," he grumbles a bit too meekly. Ugh, as if this isn't embarrassing enough already... "I just needed to rest for a minute. I'll leave."
no subject
He turns to look at the boy again, frowning even more. He doesn't seem to be doing too well.
"No need." He puts the branch down, on top of the wall that's part of his goddess' temple, watching the boy's posture, something seems off, "do you need help?"
no subject
Add hesitates before tilting his gaze back up, eyeing the stranger suspiciously. As much as his pride doesn't want to take another hit...
"I'm fine, I just... wasn't feeling well, so I sat down." He glances off to the side again as he admits it, still feeling a little embarrassed. Eye contact is hard. The pounding in his skull isn't making it any easier, either. "... There should be a shrine close by. Is it yours?"
no subject
"This is my goddess' temple, not mine." He turns his head to the side, a shiver running down his spine. He frowns, looking into the darkness, "we should move. I can feel something coming."
He looks at the guy now, watching him for injuries, just in case, "can you stand?"
no subject
After another pause, Add starts to slowly rise to his feet. Standing isn't too difficult—his legs work fine, it's just keeping balance that's a problem. He uses the post to help himself up, leaning on it for support, maybe if he can follow the outer wall to the entrance...
... but he's right about there being something lurking nearby. Is it just the wind, or is there something whispering in the shadows?
Add shivers, feeling far too exposed like this. Following the walls would work, but it would also be slow and clumsy. His pride might have to take another hit already.
"If you want to make yourself useful, let me lean on you until we reach the temple," he commands, trying to make up for his earlier display.
no subject
He raises an eyebrow when he sees the guy is almost as tall as himself, obviously something he couldn't have noticed before. Not a kid, then.
Zoro smirks, extending one arm for the guy to take. "Here, hold on," he chuckles, "I don't think using someone taller than you as a stand would be of any help."
He'll start guiding the guy back into Sheryl's temple as soon as he can, sighing in thanks that he can see the door from where they are, because he would feel pretty bad for this stranger if they ended up getting lost.
no subject
And he's even more certain of the presence lurking behind them as they finally cross the threshold of the temple grounds. He can still hear the faint muttering of smells nice coming from around the edge of the gate, but it doesn't follow any closer than that. Waiting to see if someone might try to leave, maybe...? He's absolutely not going back out that way to find out.
If he'd been alone, he'd probably be long dead by now, though. He really needs to stop being so careless...
"Thanks, I guess." It's half-mumbled and curt, but it's a sincere thanks. Kind of. As sincere as Add is going to get, anyway.
Now that he's more certain of his safety he'll try to pull away from Zoro, glancing around the unfamiliar grounds for something he can sit on. He still feels unsteady, but it's slowly starting to ebb away into something tolerable. The rest of the symptoms should pass soon as well...
no subject
He feels the kid wanting to let him go, so he does, moving his arm slowly away from the obviously weakened body without saying much, before frowning and asking "Are you going to be alright?"
no subject
He lifts his head now that the headache is mostly gone, looking towards Zoro. Ugh, asking him another question like that while acting so concerned... he can't help but scowl. He's more annoyed at having shown this man so much weakness than he is about his reaction to it, though.
"I already told you I'm fine," Add answers flatly. "It'll go away on it's own, so it's nothing to worry about. Just an annoyance." Although, it sounds a little like he's reassuring himself more than he is Zoro...
He straightens his posture after a pause, trying to look a little more dignified now that he's not feeling quite as sick. He pretends to be distracted by some of the temple's decorations so he doesn't have to look at the other man anymore.
"I suppose I'll owe you one. Don't go telling anyone you found me like this, either. Is that clear?"
no subject
"Obviously, but I still had to ask ok? Don't want to leave you if it gets worse," he decides to add something else, smirk on his face "you could get eaten, or worse."
He laughs, crossing his arms on his chest. "Why would I tell anyone anything? I don't even know your name."
no subject
"Good, then it'll be easier for you to never think of it again." That might've been a little too defensive, but whatever. This whole conversation is giving him a new headache.
"Who's temple is this?" he decides to ask, trying to shift the topic a little. He'll need to figure out how to go back to his temple on the Far Shore from here, anyway.
no subject
"Sheryl's... Err, Euterpe." He answers, looking at the building. "I think she's asleep by now but I'm sure she won't mind you here for a few... While you recover."
