Who: Natsuru Senou & You! (closed prompt for Maria Cadenzavna Eve)
When: October 9
Where: Around the Far Shore temples; Near Shore, shopping districts
What: A strange boy wandering the heavens and cluelessly shopping for clothes in Japan. Or: Natsuru has (re)discovered a magical artifact(?) in her possession and is really unsure about the results.
[A: Nuada Airgetlám's temple - Closed to Maria]
[This morning while looking through her jewelry and accessories, Natsuru had rediscovered a blue bracelet that she can't remember buying. Like the rest of the things she'd arrived wearing, it just got buried and forgotten. There's not exactly a lot of situations that call for the kind of outfit she'd worn that first day... maybe an idol performance, now that she's doing that? But the bracelet is innocuous enough, and it would probably go well with a simple, casual outfit. With that in mind, she'd tried it on again to see how she liked it.
She couldn't say why, but something felt so natural about wearing it. So she'd kept it on as she went through her morning routine. Until, suddenly, there's a shriek heard all throughout the temple. A shriek that sounds very different from the voice Maria has come to associate with Natsuru, but is definitely coming from near Natsuru's bedroom. A moment later, it's followed by a shout of:]
MARIA-SAMA???!!!
[The short-haired boy in Natsuru's pink shorts-and-cami pajama set sits trembling on the floor, wide-eyed with shock. Is this like that time they all changed ages?! Is Maria a guy now too?!!! Clearly this can't have anything to do with that weird flash of light off the bracelet...]
[B: The Far Shore, Early]
[After the initial shock, Natsuru seems to take to being in a male body fairly well, or at least better than expected. It still feels really awkward, though. He didn't even have any clothes that a guy could wear, and had to borrow some simple, casual stuff from Maria. The lightly distressed jeans and white 3/4-sleeve blouse look close enough to guy clothes, if one doesn't look too closely. They'd still fit his original girl form better, but at least he doesn't stand out too much like this.
The biggest thing that stands out is the blue bracelet still on his right wrist. That, and the fact that no one's seen this boy version of Natsuru around the Far Shore before. Do you approach the stranger who seems to be poking his nose around other people's temples? Or, perhaps, he's accidentally bumped into you and quickly jumped to apologize...]
Ah-! S-Sorry! Excuse me...
[If you're one of those people he's bumped into, he's waving his hand apologetically and smiling a very sheepish smile.]
[C: The Near Shore, men's clothing departments/stores]
[If he's going to be like this for now, it only makes sense to get some proper guy clothes. So, much like his first trips to the Near Shore as a girl, Natsuru now finds himself going on a quick shopping expedition for some basic essentials. He thinks he has a pretty good idea of what's needed - it's not that different from shopping as a girl! So, despite his uncertainty, he manages to browse through the pants and shirts and shoes. He even makes a few tentative selections, based on the aesthetic Maria had gone for when giving him some boyish-enough things to borrow.
The true challenge, though... is underwear. He knew the basic kinds of men's underwear, of course, but he'd never had to consider which to wear! He picks a pair of boxers off the rack, examining the garment from various angles.]
How can guys even wear this...?!
[Even just imagining it is making him blush. It's just a loose pair of shorts! Everything would be... moving... in there...]
M-Maybe not-!
[He forcefully shoves the offending garment back onto the rack and immediately recoils, sighing. This is harder than he'd thought it would be!]

I COULD HAVE SWORN I TAGGED THIS ugh... ;~;
[He blinks, seeming confused as he looks to where the creature is for a moment. But soon his attention is back on Kairi.]
Ah, it's no problem!
[But, this is a little awkward. He knows who she is, but it's embarrassing to tell her who he is and what's happened!]
I, um... it's... nice to meet you too?
[Cue nervous chuckle and blushing. Lots of blushing. Help.]
<3
Yeah, Nimbus!
[ She's not sure why he's so awkward, but she does want to reassure him... somehow. ]
Don't worry about it, honestly - I like making new friends all the time. Can you at least tell me your name? Then we don't have to be strangers anymore.
I was not prepared for so many of these threads to ask for a name, lol
Eh? Oh, um, it's Nat...suru...
[He didn't have any other idea what to say. As soon as the name is out, he's sure Kairi is going to think he's trying to prank her or lying or something.]
You clearly have too many super-friendly friends, Natsuru
That's... not a common name, is it? Is it maybe your family name?
[ Then at least it would be Natsuru Senou and X Natsuru, right? Or is it possible she's been wrong all along and Natsuru IS Natsuru's family name, and this is her twin??? All kinds of crazy theories float through her head. ]
never too many of those!
[Natsuru's not a good liar, okay? The best he can manage is freezing up and not having a clue what to say at all, which... is what happens next. Waiting for Kairi's response feels like an eternity of awkward.]
<3
But... well then, you can't be my friend Natsuru...
[ She rather unshyly glances at Natsuru's chest, then back up at Natsuru's face. ]
I know Natsuru...
[ And now Kairi's mind is racing with some kind of strange situation where Natsuru died and came back as... another person? Worry shows on her face, regardless. ]
no subject
Instead, the apparently strange boy Kairi's examining crosses his arms over his chest, his face turning a deep red. It is a distinctly unmasculine gesture.]
Wh-Where are you looking at?!!!
[It takes barely two seconds for him to feel really ridiculous. Obviously he doesn't have anything to see there right now! That was the point! But the fact that that was the first place Kairi thought to check...? He knows his normal body is pretty busty, but jeez.]
no subject
[ She saw Natsuru at the sleepover, she knew she wasn't as flat-chested as Kairi was. ]
I don't care if you're really a boy, Natsuru, I just... thought we were good enough friends you'd feel okay with telling me... especially since you know who I'm dating...
[ She's a little hurt, but trying to focus on finding out the truth from Natsuru rather than how she was able to be fooled. ]
no subject
It should be obvious I'm a boy right now!
[Maybe not as obvious as it was that Natsuru was definitely a girl at that sleepover. But now things seem to be veering in an even stranger direction than Natsuru ever could have expected when this conversation started. That's right, all his flustered reactions aren't making this any clearer. He should probably explain before Kairi really gets the wrong idea.]
L-Look... I'm really a girl! Or I'm supposed to be. I've been one this whole time! But... I have this bracelet...
[He holds up his arm, showing the blue bracelet on his wrist.]
I had it on when I came here, but when I put it on today it... did this. N-Not right away, or anything! I felt something weird all of a sudden, and it flashed and changed me, but I don't know how to change back. And taking it off didn't work either...
[Natsuru really hopes she believes this. He almost doesn't, and he's the one it happened to.]
no subject
Regardless, it's weird, but she would rather believe that something weird happened to Natsuru all of a sudden than that Natsuru would hide a secret like that. ]
Huh, well, okay...
[ She pulls a hand to her chin. ]
Do you mean you've had this bracelet the whole time you've been in the Far Shore, Natsuru? When you've been here longer than I have? It's never done anything else to you this whole time?
no subject
[Put that way, Natsuru can see how it might sound strange and hard to believe. Well, hard to believe beyond the part about how people generally don't just change bodies like this.]
I haven't worn it much since then. After I moved temples, I just kind of forgot about it...
[He's not sure, but he might have even become Maria's shinki before Kairi even arrived. It was definitely before they met, at least.]
no subject
Well I can see that, then. If you haven't spent much time wearing it at all, then you wouldn't have known its effects.
[ She takes her hand away to look back up at Natsuru's face. ]
Aside from the obvious, do you feel any differently? Like... maybe you can't do some of your shinki powers now, like borderline? But you could do other kinds of magic instead?
[ It's hard to describe, but she can sense that such a dramatic shift might be more than "wow that's weird" and move on. ]
no subject
[He pauses mid-sentence, thinking to himself. He does feel different, but how is he supposed to know what's normal to feel different about at a time like this?]
Er, well, I can still do borderlines. That's something any shinki can do. But...
[He hasn't tried any of his other powers.]
Should I... try using my other magic too?
no subject
What other magic? Is it like my keyblade? Or more like Izumo's fire maybe...
[ It's both surprising and not. Surprising that Natsuru hadn't mentioned anything about other magic before now, but in the face of this whole-body transformation, not much else could really surprise her, on top of it being a common thing now among shinki she knows - or "knew" as shinki, in Izumo's case. Besides, it could also be recent, and she's already had her fuss about not knowing that much about Natsuru before now. ]
no subject
Oh, I don't use it very much! But yeah, it's just fire magic.
[He holds out his hand to try it, see if it'll work so he can show her. But it's clear he knows something's wrong the second he does.]
Huh? [He closes his hand into a loose fist, then opens it with his fingers spread out again. Still nothing.] It's really not working...?!
no subject
[ She wasn't sure she'd actually be right about that. Fire magic that Natsuru can use outside of shinki form did seem like magic that came just as naturally as Kairi's keyblade did, even if it took a memory to realize she could summon it first.
Meanwhile, changed like this, Natsuru not being able to use it is... interesting. ]
That's another piece to the puzzle for you, isn't it?
no subject
[With his thoughts naturally steering clear of anything involving his past life, he can only think on certain aspects of it. And he realizes something.]
My body feels... different. I mean, inside too? Like I'm empty...
[What kind of bracelet turns you into a guy and steals your abilities?]
no subject
[ Kairi taps her chin. This is a little out of her depth, but- ]
Well... I can tell you that I asked Forrest once about wearing clothes that made him look like a girl from a distance. He explained he just like the fashionable clothes, that it wasn't about wanting to be a girl at all.
[ She folds her hands, trying to be delicate. ]
So what I'm trying to say is... maybe you feel empty because... this isn't how you want to be? And the bracelet is more like a curse to be something you don't like?
