Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the Meeting Hall, where a reception area and a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a traditional reception room within the Meeting Hall for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

A training game has been set up through a section of the Meeting Hall gardens, with little cut-outs of ayakashi hidden in the landscaping, tucked into bushes or taped under bridges. Prize ribbons are being offered for every ten "ayakashi" a shinki (or team) discovers.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki. Several magically animated straw-stuffed training dummies, many of which have been carefully mended and patched with neat black stitching, are set up on the lawn with a white-robed shinki hovering nearby to watch over them. They make good training partners, although anyone who comes too close risks being targeted for a sparring match whether they wanted one or not.

The pond behind the dojo has had dozens wooden poles sunk in it, spaced a few feet apart, with a bunch of brightly colored ribbons tied around the pole in the very center. Some of the white-robed shinki are practicing scaling the poles and leaping from one to the next, until they get close enough that they can snatch a ribbon from the center pole, and several have fallen in and are being teased by their fellows.

Rest and Refreshments

Instead of snacks being served at the training session, this week, white-robed shinki with little flags are conducting groups of newcomers and volunteers down to the Tokyo Daijingu shrine and into a street festival currently being held in Tokyo. Traditional dance troupes are performing on street corners, and vendors have every kind of fall street foods, from barbecue to takoyaki, chocolate-dipped bananas and red-bean pancakes. New arrivals will get a white-and-gold envelope with spending money for the fair, although gods and shinki who have had some time to settle in will have to handle their own lunch expenses.

[Lightning "knows" that her shinki is there the moment the girl arrives in the world. It wasn't pleasant in the least and it makes her wonder just what Serah saw when Snow became her shinki. With a shake of her head, Light heads to the meeting hall to find her new charge...

Only to watch the girl take out everything on a training dummy.]

(Listen, that dummy definitely deserved some of what she was dishing out.)

Huh? (It's as though she wasn't expecting an answer from anyone. Maybe she has been at this for a while in her mind, Tana having lost track of how long she's actually been here so far.)

Mine? Like that piece of paper said?

Exactly. The name's Lightning Farron, and I'm the goddess Selene.

[Don't ask for more than that. Despite her time here, Light's don't actually very little at the moment into looking at the details of who she was supposed to be.]

And you are?

I'm Tana... I think? (She sounds so uncertain of that. It's easy to remember something like how to walk on your own two feet and to breathe without memories.

A name though? It's a little difficult to imagine. Where did it come from? Who named her?)

Lightning's a nice name... oh, but should I call you Selene instead? (Man, here Tana is stuck with her one name and this cool god gets two of them.) The pamphlet emphasized getting along with your god, and oh! To not feel negative. Well, I don't think that will be a problem. I'm in a good mood.

(She rambles a lot and pauses, realizing she hasn't given her a chance to even answer her question. Oops. Sheepishly, she brings a hand to her mouth as if to physically silence herself.)

[Okay, so that's a little cute. A shinki who rambles. Light can only think of her own sister when Serah would get excited about something. There's almost a hint of a smile before she shakes her head.]

Lightning is fine, Tana. And I'm sure you'll be fine. From how I understand it, the emotions would have to be pretty intense. Feeling bad once in a while won't kill me. [That's why holy water exists.] I'm more worried about you getting blighted. Don't go after ayakashi without me.

Alright, I won't go after ayakashi without you. (A pause.)

... how do I know what they look like? They don't look like you and me, do they? It'd be difficult to tell in that kind of situation.

(Tana is the kind of person who would have an in-depth and very one-sided conversation with an enemy before realizing they're someone she's not meant to speak with.)

Maybe I'll just know it when I see them. I'm a shinki, it's what I'm supposed to do while I'm here.

[Tana, should she be worried? Then again, Lightning has done that a few times in her past. Even the best can be taken in and have very decent conversations with bad guys.]

From what they taught us gods at the meeting, ayakashi can be pretty much any shape, but it's obvious what they are. Nothing like us.

[Or most of the other people here unless it's something close to that talking book she was speaking with earlier. That could have been an ayakashi were it not a demon lord trapped in paper...]

Do you know how to use your phone? They should have given you one.

I don't know... there's a number of things that are probably not like us. It'd be difficult to gauge based off of that alone. (She's a bit naive, but recognizes there's more than just "humans" here.)

Phone?

(She doesn't even know what a phone is, but she'll start to dig through the bag of stuff she's been carrying around. Treats, pamphlets (she collected a couple of extras to pass out to others if need be), and there! This seems like it may be what she's asking about.)

Aha, do you mean this thing? I think they called it a phone... I, I kind of wasn't paying attention. (Her mind wanders sometimes.)

[Tana wouldn't remember being around non-humans, would she?] I can tell you there's human, non-humans, demons, a horse with wings, and plenty of other creatures that are on our side. Ayakashi are not like them, or us.

[Lightning nods and pulls her own out, pressing a few buttons on it. Time to teach her shinki how to use a phone because from that death flash Tana is clearly not from a technology advanced world.] Your contact info is in mine already.
