March Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: October 25th
Where: Outside the Meeting Hall, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into what looks like an old, large warehouse behind the Meeting Hall for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior. Several chairs have been moved in, but they're squeezed together between packed shelves and boxes of old ritual clothing, scrolls and rusty or chipped household goods. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Back copies of the "From Ama" magazine, including puff pieces about new or rising gods or successful shinki, advice columns for resolving problems between gods and shinki, temple photographs and other articles of interest to gods and shinki, have been brought out in boxes and piled up next to a table holding a few remaining copies of the shinki questionnaire for any new shinki who want to keep one around until they can answer the included questions.

      What is your name?

      What is your god's name?

How do you see your duties as a shinki?

What is your favorite part of life with your god?

What is your least favorite part of life with your god?

What advice would you like to give your god?

Do you wish to be assigned to a different god? []Y []N

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki. Several magically animated straw-stuffed training dummies, many of which have been carefully mended and patched with neat black stitching, are set up on the lawn with a white-robed shinki hovering nearby to watch over them. They make good training partners, although anyone who comes too close risks being targeted for a sparring match whether they wanted one or not.

The white-robed shinki are still busy cleaning and preparing the Meeting Hall for the big annual meeting of the gods. They'll recruit anyone who looks as though they're not too busy in order to help scrub floors, weed, sweep paths and walkways, and shoo away any unwelcome little spirits that are hiding away in dark corners of the hall. Heavy lifting is good exercise... right?

Rest and Refreshments

There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, but for those who've finished working, hot tea and enough seasonal treats are available to make it look as though the Heavens bought out an entire sweet shop. They're being distributed by a few shinki in indigo-blue and plain brown robes with the sleeves tied back, who aren't above teasing the newcomers a bit.

Young shinki are playing in the nicely manicured garden, trying to catch crayfish at the lake edge, dashing around playing tag and hide-and-seek. Just be careful you don't get caught in the middle of a game of "Kagome"! If you do, you'll really be stuck until you guess someone's name.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Enjoy a traditional tea
  • Spectate if you want
  • Have fun~

That's right. [Something about this girl's tic is definitely familiar, and now that she's confirmed herself to be a god with knowledge of her past life, Maria feels like it might be more comfortable to look into that later on. For now, though, she looks pleased enough to have more musicians here.]

I used to run an idol group, but sadly most of the members vanished a little while ago, so I had to just go back to running it as a talent agency. I still get occasional chances to perform, though.
disciprined: (is this primportant?)

That's a thing that happens? People just disappear here? Do you know where they went, pri?

[Perhaps they just went back home, pri--

[There are Gods and monsters here. If they can be brought here at random, Mirei's at least 95% sure it must work in reverse... but there's a non-negligible chance someone could have been eaten.]
declamando: (all's well that ends well)

[Maria gives a somewhat wan smile that probably answers the question before she needs to say anything.]

I'd assume they go back home - I've done it briefly myself - but we can't be entirely sure. There's someone looking into it who posted their results on the BBS if you want to check later. But it happens quite often, unfortunately.

[It's a rough thing to drop on someone on their first day, but Maria figures focusing on the disappearances themselves for now might be easier than talking about those "results" from the other day. Hearing the body they're in here probably isn't their true one could unsettle plenty of people.]

[So, they can return home, though not - not yet - at will. Mirei makes a mental note of that and stows it away for later.

[The second thing to remember: the BBS. That sounds like something else that will reward further study.

[For now, she feels the need to try and lighten the mood a little. An connoisseur of smiles, Mirei knows when one simply doesn't look quite right. No matter how unsettling the news, how unfamiliar the situation, how much she is suddenly unsure of, nobody needs an idol who can't smile. Thye rest of it is simply going to have to wait.]

Well, thank you for telling me anyway, pri! It's always better to know what you're dealing with, right? I mean of course there was the lecture, but nothing beats talking to the people who are already here. Kind of like field work, pri!
declamando: (compliment)

I can't disagree with it being better to know what you're dealing with. The lectures don't seem to be bad for the basics, but it's always best to ask what the people who've been living it think.

[The previous forced note to Maria's smile had left easily enough once they got off the topic of going back home. It's more that she doesn't want to think about what might've happened to some others that have already left this place.

For now, though, she has a bit of curiosity to sate.]
Sorry if this seems off-hand, but do you know somebody named Hibiki Shikyoin?

Hibiki Shikyoin, pri?

[Surely everybody knows Hibiki Shikyoin.

[Correction: Everybody knows of Hibiki Shikyoin. Parademy-Award Winners don't exactly just show up at your school, but there are small pieces of pumice on the beaches of Macroprisia who know of Hibiki Shikyoin.

[Addendum: Everybody form Mirei's world knows of Hibiki Shikyoin.]

You've heard of Hibiki Shikyoin? The film star? Everyone's heard of him - I mean at home, pri! Anyway I've heard of him but I can't say we've met, pri.

[personal profile] declamando 2018-03-27 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Maria can already tell they haven't met when Mirei refers to Hibiki as "he", but she lets her go ahead and explain it regardless.] She's actually one of the gods here. Obviously a god can't get famous here the same as she could in your world, but she's certainly trying.

[That gets a slight laugh from Maria, as if it's a bit quaint. It's still mind-boggling to her that the kind of acting Hibiki favours could get so popular in another world, considering she'd charitably describe it as "a bit exaggerated".]

I'd say you'll run into her here at some point.
disciprined: (hey babpri)

[personal profile] disciprined 2018-03-27 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[That sounds a lot less likely than this young woman thinks.

[It's plausible, of course - as Mirei's calculations would have it, there's at least a 75% overlap with what she knows of Hibiki Shikyoin from home. The other 25%, however, is something of a dealbreaker.]

Okay, but... are you sure it's the same Shikyoin-san, pri? Silver hair, green eyes... that one? The one from my world's definitely a guy, pri.
declamando: (compliment)

[personal profile] declamando 2018-03-27 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Maria nods a little, looking faintly amused at the apparent certainty of the statement.] Yes, that's definitely her. I know she likes to perform as men, but trust me, she's a woman. I've spent quite a bit of time with her since she got here.

[Not as much as some others, but still, Hibiki's been here a good four or five months, and Maria's encountered her quite frequently, not to mention their brief rivalry.]

Really, pri?!

[The things she could do with that knowledge if she was only back at home!]

... That's underhand, pri!

[At the very least it makes a mockery of the entrance criteria for the Mister Handsome Puniverse competition!]
declamando: (neutral)

[personal profile] declamando 2018-03-29 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Maria looks a little surprised at that, though she doesn't know the details of any rewards or competitions Hibiki might have won back home.]

Underhand? That seems a bit much, doesn't it? [Of course, she's not going to outright say it's wrong until she hears an explanation.]
disciprined: (highly inappropriate)

[personal profile] disciprined 2018-03-29 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
It does? But nobody knows this at home, pri!

[It's not like Reona, Mirei thinks. Reona's different. Reona never tried to fool anyone.]

I don't mind that she does it, pri! I just don't like that she's lied about it!
declamando: (over the distance)

[personal profile] declamando 2018-03-31 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maria can understand that much, but she still doesn't really get why "underhand" is the word she chose rather than dishonest...until she considers it for a little longer.]

Did she use it to do something she wouldn't have been allowed to do otherwise?
