Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.




God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into what looks like an old, large warehouse behind the Meeting Hall for an informational meeting covering the basics of proper god behavior. Several chairs have been moved in, but they're squeezed together between packed shelves and boxes of old ritual clothing, scrolls and rusty or chipped household goods. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. They are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out helpful informational pamphlets. They will be happy to instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline as well as offering an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

Back copies of the "From Ama" magazine, including puff pieces about new or rising gods or successful shinki, advice columns for resolving problems between gods and shinki, temple photographs and other articles of interest to gods and shinki, have been brought out in boxes and piled up next to a table holding a few remaining copies of the shinki questionnaire for any new shinki who want to keep one around until they can answer the included questions.

Physical Training

The dojo is stocked with a wide variety of practice weapons, traditional and modern, to offer some practice opportunity to gods who, for example, find themselves with a sword shinki but are at risk of cutting off their own toes. It's also useful for veteran new gods wishing to train with their current partner shinki. Several magically animated straw-stuffed training dummies, many of which have been carefully mended and patched with neat black stitching, are set up on the lawn with a white-robed shinki hovering nearby to watch over them. They make good training partners, although anyone who comes too close risks being targeted for a sparring match whether they wanted one or not.

The white-robed shinki are still busy cleaning and preparing the Meeting Hall for the big annual meeting of the gods. They'll recruit anyone who looks as though they're not too busy in order to help scrub floors, weed, sweep paths and walkways, and shoo away any unwelcome little spirits that are hiding away in dark corners of the hall. Heavy lifting is good exercise... right?

Rest and Refreshments

There are casks of fresh, cold water near the dojo to make sure no one gets dehydrated, but for those who've finished working, hot tea and enough seasonal treats are available to make it look as though the Heavens bought out an entire sweet shop. They're being distributed by a few shinki in indigo-blue and plain brown robes with the sleeves tied back, who aren't above teasing the newcomers a bit.

Young shinki are playing in the nicely manicured garden, trying to catch crayfish at the lake edge, dashing around playing tag and hide-and-seek. Just be careful you don't get caught in the middle of a game of "Kagome"! If you do, you'll really be stuck until you guess someone's name.

Yes. He is an exceptionally complicated individual. [ And that's putting it lightly! ] Something I believe you need to be aware of.

Are we still talking about Lady Grell, sir?

[Grell had definitely not corrected him calling her that. He is confused.But to be perfectly honest he has been confused since arriving here. He has been assured that confusion is a legitimate feeling for someone waking up from the dead with no memories and being told they are now a weapon for a god but it still makes him feel slightly stupid having to ask such simple questions.

Still no one has been angry at him asking questions yet and so he is hoping that William will also not mind too much.]

Who else would we be discussing? Honestly.

I apologise sir.

[He's already stood quite formally but if anything his posture gets more so. Clearly stupid questions are less welcome here.] An exceptionally complicated individual. I understand. [No he doesn't]

No I do not believe you understand. And this is not to be taken lightly.

[ He sighs. ]

Grell Sutcliffe is unstable. He is very easily triggered into acting violently, and will purposefully provoke others into confrontation with him. I will, undoubtedly, be spending a great deal of my time with him, as well as at his temple. However, I would like you to inform me if he begins to act out while I am not around. As I seem to be the only one capable of knocking some sense into him.

[ Quite literally. ]

[He is right of course, Suzaku doesn't understand. But he does listen carefully as William begins to explain.

He had already noted when Lady Grell had been speaking to him that she seemed to prefer the destructive and death parts of Kali than the creator and life parts. But what William was saying seemed to imply more than that. Violent and confrontational.

It was a little worrying but she was who Suzaku had been assigned to serve and so he nodded.] I will make sure to inform you if there are any incidents.

[A pause] You said he was very easily triggered into acting violently. Is there anything I should avoid doing? [He's not so much scared for himself, but he would rather avoid angering his god if it can be helped and any kind of information he can have will be better than none.]

Good.

[ Suzaku's question could have an endless number of answers, considering how frequently Grell's mood fluctuates. The redheaded reaper should really come with an instruction manual. ]

He is very prideful, so avoid insulting or criticizing him. Also, keep in mind that his interest in you could suddenly change, should you start to bore him. In fact, boredom is the usual culprit behind his delinquent behavior. I am unaware of your physical capabilities, but if he finds you to be someone who can best him in a fight, he will, most likely, test that theory.

I wouldn't criticize him [Or insult him. Such a thing seems wrong to Suzaku, he wouldn't criticize a god and someone he was meant to serve. Though Shun's words from earlier rang in his ears about it being a Shinki's role to advise and guide. To not put gods on a pedestal because they were as fallible as anyone else. But still there was a difference between guiding and insulting someone's pride.

Starting to bore him was harder though, Suzaku was not sure how interesting a person he was and how successful he would be at making sure Lady Grell did not get bored.] I can fight. [He blinks] Are you saying to avoid letting Lady Grell know this, or to allow him to fight me?

You should remain as his weapon. Fight along side him, not against him. But if he is attempting to misuse your ability, inform me. You should not feel obligated to obey him if it is something you feel is wrong.

Of course [Fight along side her, that was his job. It was similar to what Shun had told him, to not blindly obey his god if he felt something was wrong. It felt... not right to think about disobeying his god. Even if two people had now told him that he should if he felt it was for the best. He guessed like so much here he would discover what he felt about things as they happened.]

I will do my best.

[ He's not attempting to be super intimidating, just stern so that Suzaku takes his words seriously. ]

[He doesn't seem intimidated, just formal. He is stood straight, the words seem to be instinctive rather than anything thought out.]

[ William blinks before a deep frown takes his features. ]

Do not address me as such. I am not your master. Mister Spears is sufficient enough.

I apologise, mister Spears [He looks a little awkward. But he goes for stoicism, he's only been here a few hours he still has a lot to learn and the correct way to address people was one of them]
