Summary: There are too many teachers sick and the Far Shore residents need to help fill in!



For some reason or another, many teachers have gotten sick just as the new school year is starting! In a panic, the school is seeking out every substitute teacher they can find, which is still not enough, and so the gods have to step in as reinforcements. And the Heavens are insisting on Far Shore residents helping strictly because this sickness seems so darn suspicious.

So anyone who looks old enough is being asked to step in as a substitute teacher and anyone who looks young enough is being asked to blend in as a new student, all to help the school and find out what exactly is causing this mysterious illness plaguing only the teachers of this school. There are many subjects open to teach and all Far Shore residents are expected to act as if they properly belong in this school while conducting their investigation. That means you'll have to teach properly or attend classes, depending on which role you've taken on.

Some gods might even find it useful to try and get information out of students by possessing one of their own, therefore guaranteeing the trust of the others around them. It's all up to you how you choose to investigate!

Newcomers will find the following note in their pockets as they are transferred to the school:

I am sure you have many questions and concerns, but you have appeared at a very inconvenient time. Please attempt to help us, if you can, and we will reward you to the best of our abilities.

If you have any questions, you can seek out the counselor. Too many students underestimate what a good counselling session can do towards helping to alleviate their fears and uncertainties.

Classes

Being a big school, there are dozens of different subjects available. As teachers, you can practically teach anything you would like to, and as students you are facing a constant stream of completely different kinds of information. Maybe the school needs to tone it down a bit on how many different subjects they offer...

Hallways

The hallways are always a great place to mingle and get to know the other students in the school. You'll see all sorts in the hallways, ranging from the beautiful girls being followed by their fanboys all the way to the delinquents who are promptly making their way away from the classrooms for the rest of the day. Hopefully somebody around here will be able to give you a heads up as to what's going on.

Lunch

Lunchtime is the easiest time to gather gossip and information. Whether you are staying in the classroom with a bento or heading to the cafeteria to wrestle for some bread or spending your lunch in the faculty room with the rest of the not-sick teachers, you will find that both the students and the faculty are more prone to chatting during lunch. And a lot of them talk about a curse laid on the school because of the late principal...

Counselling

Surprisingly enough, there is a white-robed shinki in the counselling office of the school, and the golden chrysanthemum of Amaterasu can be found on her tunic as well as on the door to her small personal office. Oddly, all of the other students and faculty keep passing the door by, but the counselling shinki simply continues to smile gently all the same.

FINAL BOSS

Turns out there is something causing the illness in the teachers, and it's an exceedingly large ayakashi, one so large that no single god could possibly take it down. You'll have to all work together to weaken it enough for the rending to work on it.

The battle for the FINAL BOSS will be posted on the OOC date of July 17, all threads involving destroying him should go there when it is posted. All other events leading up to the FINAL BOSS battle should slowly build to figuring out that an ayakashi is at work.

[ Reiji nods again. So that's why they've been sent in to infiltrate. ]

I haven't seen any traces of it around yet, not in the student common areas. It might be more hidden than that.

[ He gestures vaguely to the space around them. ]

You could go in to the staff places to look around. Maybe even the principal's office. I talked with a couple of others and that seems to be the most likely place. I can't go in there without a lot of trouble, so it might be better if you did.

You've got it! I've been poking around the staff room a little, but who knows, there could be some other stuff hidden out of the way. Thanks for the idea!

[What kinds of places do the students usually stay out of? Staff areas, maintenance, teacher's break rooms.... Tsuzuki's already getting a thoughtful look in his eyes.]

[ The shinki nods, smiling. ]

No problem. It's just an idea that you'll be better able to handle than I do.

[ And now that there's a lull in the conversation: ]

I don't think I've asked your name yet. [ hint hint ]

Oh yeah, sorry! [Tsuzuki laughs easily, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck in a sheepish gesture.] I'm Tsuzuki Asato -- Tajimamori, if you want my title, but just Tsuzuki's fine.

What about you?

[heiring]

[ Seems like Tsuzuki is a casual person, too. That works out just fine. ]

Suwa Reiji. Nice to meet you!

[ He gives the older man a slight bow in respect. ]

Have you been here a long time?

[sweetdeath]

Not all that long, honestly -- almost two months. I think it's about as long as any of us new gods have been here, though!

[Tsuzuki shrugs.]

This hasn't been happening for that long.

[heiring]

[ That's interesting. Reiji's eyebrows rise, if only a little. ]

Well, you're still a veteran. I think it counts. [ That's... a sort of compliment?? ] Is this place... mostly safe, though? I know we have to fight but, were there any... casualties?

[ He can't actually swordfight or anything. If it is dangerous, he should... do something about that. ]

[sweetdeath]

Yeah, people have died. And we've had a handful of the new gods and shinki disappear, too. It seems like when the new gods disappear, their place just gets bulldozed like it was never there, and nobody really knows what happened.

[Amaterasu says their souls returned to wherever they came from, but if she doesn't know how they got here in the first place, Tsuzuki's still not buying that. It's probably just a nice thought. He's not going to pass it on, not unless it's to somebody who just needs to be reassured.]

[heiring]

[ That... sounds dangerous, to be honest. He'll have to re-evaluate his concept of this place, if that was the case. ]

People come and go, and we don't know where they go to. I don't know why I'm here, either.

[ He only lets his uncertainty show for another three seconds, though. ]

Thanks for the information, though. It's a lot to mull on.

Yeah... that's about the shape of it. Sorry it's not good news.

Just be careful, okay?

[Tsuzuki manages to scrape up a reassuring smile for the guy, and offers a firm nod.]

Can I come visit your place sometime, by the way?

Sure, if you want! I'm in the temple that looks like a farmhouse with sunflowers in the garden.

[His grin is brilliant. There might be a lot of things about this Heaven that worry him, but his temple still just makes him happy.]

[heiring]

I'll keep a lookout for that. Thanks.

[ He's quite friendly, which sits fine with Reiji. Better than having to interact with someone who's prickly. ]

Well, I'd suppose I won't keep you occupied any longer. I hope I haven't been intruding on your time?
