Who: Everyone! This is an open mingle log, so feel free to toplevel and thread between yourselves as much as possible.
When: October 27th
Where: Calico Cat Cafe, somewhere vague in Tokyo. An address was posted on the BBS a day prior.
What: Cat adoption day - come bring some (or a lot of) new friends home, take advantage of the no entry fee to spend a day hanging out with cats, or volunteer to help out the somewhat overloaded staff.

An adoption event needs no small venue, and Cat Cafe Calico provides that much, visible as soon as anyone walks in the front door, pane glass with a little bell to ensure no cats walk out undetected. The area is spacious and welcoming, warmly lit with smooth and modern decor, and of course, plenty of posts for the cats. The cafe area itself is on the lower floor, along with various stools, cushions and lounges for people to sit on and spend some time with the plentiful felines. Most of the adoption services have set up along one wall down here, but it's plenty easy to avoid them and just play around with the cats unless you intend to adopt. They've got plenty of waitstaff available, and the cafe is testing out some new and unusual styles and flavours of tea, coffee and milkshakes, as well as seasonal fruit based cakes and tarts. For those without as much of a sweet tooth, there's savoury snacks as well - or maybe you'd prefer to just buy some snacks for the cats, which is an option too.

Upstairs, there's also a video game area with plenty more seating and plenty more cats...though good luck getting them out of the way of the screens, or occasionally off the consoles themselves. Quite a few of the cats are lounging around by the large window, either between cushions or on an impressively-sized play frame, and some are even up near the roof on mounted walkways. There are no guarantees they won't drop onto the occasional passerby. The upstairs also houses a few enclosed areas for people to socialise with specific cats or groups of them to see which ones they get on with best.

Volunteers will be thanked profusely, and some of the staff may even approach visitors to ask if they might help, offering compensation of food and drink prices or similar. There's a lot of adoption paperwork to be done, and with the waitstaff run off their feet, there's few people left to supervise interactions between visitors and cats to make sure all's friendly. Of course, this is an excellent excuse to just surround oneself with any available cats and let others approach as they please.

There's a steady stream of kittens being let out into the mingling cats throughout the day, most of them kept to enclosed areas under staff supervision. Whenever more come out, it might be possible to catch some whispers from the waitstaff, as if surprised at something - listen closely enough, and it sounds like they're talking about an employee, one who they barely see and rarely talks, yet finishes work promptly and slips away before anyone notices except the cats, who all seem very comfortable around him...

Whatever the reason for being here, there's plenty of cats to go around, plenty of activity, and ample opportunity to take home a new friend! Or two. Or ten, if you can convince the staff you can handle it.

Hmph. [ Hibiki mostly has herself sorted out now, and that haughty sniff seals it. She can do this.

She stalks, more than walks, over to the table, and presents the person working there with her bundle of elite excellence. ]

I'm commandeering this animal! I'll have you prepare the forms.

[ The cat is placed on the table, where it blinks, yawns, and begins pacing all over the papers, tail waving as it places its paws every single place the volunteer is trying to tug a paper. ]

[ The cat is behaving exactly as D2 imagines Hibiki herself would act, were she a cat.

A match made in heaven, truly. Hibiki and her newfound comrade truly are alike. D2 sighs. ]

That'd go faster if you helped out a little, Hibiki.

Why should I do something so beneath me?

[ The only time she does that is if someone is incompetent!

So she does it a lot. But, right now, she is content to be waited upon.

The poor cafe helper finally gets the adoption papers together and hands them to Hibiki to sign. Hibiki places them on the table, pulling a fountain pen from her pocket.

The cat sits on the papers and begins playing with its own ears. ]

[ Man, cats are just so much just cats. They're amazing. ]

Beneath you, huh? So you don't want to make sure everything goes right?

[ Hibiki is absolutely the type who'd sigh and mutter "do I have to do everything myself" because she thinks everyone else are hopeless. ]

[ Hibiki is absolutely positively that type. Hibiki is also the type to not think something merits her attention and then get smacked in the face with negative consequences. There's a whole grab bag of tricks here in Hibiki Land. ]

Silence. I'm busy.

[ Busy trying to get this pen around this tail. How can she...convince this beautiful lady....to vacate....? ]

[ Hibiki is amazing, in her own ridiculous way which makes no sense. ]

Mmmmmh-hmmmm, okay.

[ Hibiki is also ridiculous on an amazing level. D2 pets one of the cats as it climbs to his shoulder as he continues to watch her struggle. ]

[ Unable to remove the tail, Hibiki slides her hand underneath it sideways to, painstakingly but surely, manage to sign off on the paperwork. One....final....flouri-----

The cat turns around suddenly and whacks the pen out of Hibiki's hands. ] Wha---!!!

[ Watch out for that pen. ]

[ D2 snorts. He would contain it but, you know, he wouldn't, obviously, contain it.

He lets the pen hit his head and it bounces off it and lands on the floor not far from him.

And he bends forward, shoulders shaking and a hand pressed over his mouth ineffectively as he laughs. ]

[ - how does the pen hitting him somehow manage to make her look more absurd....

Hibiki begins to reach the boiling point, hunching up as she makes a last-ditch effort to preserve what's left of her dignity. The cat, either actually concerned or else drawn to the interesting noises, paws at her. Mrwor? ]

[ AND SUDDENLY HIBIKI IS PERFECTLY FINE ]

There's no cause for concern. [ She holds out her hand in the hopes the cat will position itself the way it wants her to - she's still not sure about the whole petting thing. ] Each of your elegant actions is a pleasure to behold.

[ The cat is pleased to behold a source of ear scritches, even if she has to shove herself against Hibiki's fingers, thereby doing most of the work.

The adoption center volunteer, meanwhile, fetched another pen but is now looking around, having forgotten who needs it. ]

[ Hibiki, learn that you're absurd most of the time, it's got nothing to do with others. But it can be pretty interesting to see Hibiki being absurd. Sometimes it's a menace, but only sometimes. ]

You might want to say hi to the poor volunteer.

[ Is Hibiki used to being forgotten by mortals yet? ]

Say, God Apollo? How much experience with cats do you have?

[ The volunteer notices the cat. Oh, the cat is....Huh, the cat is rubbing against a person. Is that...who needs the pen? ]

[ Or most other animals. But if you go by the basic pet type animals, she'd be most like a cat. ]

She smirks, looking rather pleased with herself as she writes something down. The cat, meanwhile, is winding itself around her arm. Attentioooon. Pay attention to iiiiiiittttt.

[ Rosalie lifts a leg and licks herself somewhere a lady probably shouldn't lick. ]

[ There. All her paperwork is done, and presented to her. She places it in her lapel pocket and reaches to pick up her cat. Which sort of twists itself into a cat pretzel as she lifts it. Where are we goooiiiinnng. ]

Well, we'll be on our way.

[ A paw sticks out from the side as Hibiki takes her leave. Maybe that's farewell?
