THIS IS HALLOWEEN [Open]
Who: Hak and YOU
When: Oct 24th to Oct 30th
Where: All over the Near Shore as well as Ler's Temple
What: Hak has two missions. One is to create a fun haunted house... two is to one-up someone else who thinks they're better.
1. Decoration Shopping - Oct 24th
[Hak is generally not the one shopping for things. That falls to Yoon or someone else entirely. But this is his job now because he really wants to do well here. Sorry to say.
If you find him buying decorations somewhere, he's deciding between incredibly realistically spooky or comical spooky. On one hand, he's holding fake blood, and on the other, he's holding a fake skeleton. One hand holding the blood, the other hand holding the skeleton as he holds both of them up to look carefully at them.
This doesn't even include the two baskets he has either. One with more realistic, scary things, and the other with items that include fake ghosts and cute pumpkins. He might be having more trouble deciding than he realizes.]
2. Food Shopping - Oct 25th & 26th
[People told him candy and cakes, so that's what he's getting next. And because this is Hak and he has limited to no control over his life, he's probably buying too much of everything. But he's trying to win this competition here. If only to prove to himself that he can do it.
But he has one cart nearly full of bags of candy that he's been picking up and throwing in. Bag after bag of anything that might be appealing. If a kid looked at it for more than a few moments, it goes into the cart. No questions asked. He'll deal with the extras later; people like candy, right?
Right.
As for cakes, he's in two camps on it. He's never fancied himself a baker, but his temple did come with an oven and a stove. So maybe he should try.
On the other hand, the store has actual cakes for sale. Nice cakes. Cakes he probably couldn't replicate himself. And well...
He has a few boxes of cakes with the ingredients, and is now looking at the premade cakes. Trying to decide which ones to get. When, in reality, it's probably him thinking of how many he should get.]
3. Decorating - Ler's Temple - Oct 27-29th
[Hak has been decorating as he's gotten things, but every day he finds new things to decorate with. Skeletons, pumpkins, ghosts, and even some of the realistic stuff that looks far too realistic to even be allowed. But he didn't create any hauntings...
yet.
On any given day, he has a giant box nearby full of either realistic or comical decorations that he's exploring putting up. For the most part, it's outside all of the houses that are around. The insides of the houses are the darker parts of it.
However, he's not sure about this and has sort of tried to get some help on this subject. Someone like Yoon might know better, but he has put up signs for help. As well as a message on the BBS asking if anyone has any good decoration abilities.
Except for his competition.]
4. Baking - Ler's Temple - Oct 30th
[With the decorations ready to go, Hak has one final task. There are cakes to be baked. A lot of cakes, actually. There's enough premade cakes in case his go wrong, but if he only sets out premade food, then... he's definitely not going to win. So, not willing to risk anything at all for the big celebration, he's, again, called in some help.
Anyone who can bake or wants to try is welcome to stop by and see how someone who has no idea how to work an oven will bake.
This will go well.]
What does it say?
[He has a white apron on too. Don't comment on it, he'll ignore it.]

Doesn't matter.
But he looks torn between wanting to laugh, wanting to pull Hak away from the oven, and just taking over himself. It's a bad feeling in general, but he's still here aaaaand...holding a recipe for Irish Cream Bundt Cake. /sticks to Celsius for this.]
Preheat the oven to 165 degrees first.
no subject
Blame Yona, always Yona.
He nods and moves to turn on the oven to the right temperature. At least he appreciates the help.]
What next?
[You'll be here all day at least.]
no subject
[Good thing he doesn't have much else to do today.]
no subject
What next?
[He'll follow you perfectly so long as you know what you're doing, Izumo.]
no subject
[A pause as Izumo puts the two boxes out in front of Hak better. Enjoy instant dessert mixes.]
Then you're going to mix in eggs, 1/4 cup of water, 1/2 cup of oil, and 3/4 Irish cream liqueur. [Izumo pauses again as he looks over at Hak.]
...Get all of that?
no subject
And maybe a bit more of the liqueur than is required.]
Yup. All in.
[Oh DEER.]
no subject
[Hak. Hak why.]
no subject
[It's fine, it's fine!]
no subject
no subject
[He definitely did that on purpose.]
2
Isn't he going a bit overboard?
Is he arranging a party? ]
That's a lot of candy, Mister.
no subject
Yes. and Yes.]
Nah. Not enough.
[That's pretty simple.]
Especially with Halloween.
no subject
[ Not assuming he'll pay for it. Obi generally doesn't pay for stuff here. ]
Why especially with that... Halloween?
[ He's clearly unfamiliar with the holiday. ]
no subject
[He shrugged his shoulders.]
So I'll just pick everything up.
no subject
Everything is a lot, you'll probably find some that aren't even tasty.
[ And you know, taste is important. ]
no subject
[Some of them might be but he's going to offload most of them anyways.]
no subject
Really? Then who’re they for?
no subject
[That explains everything.]
no subject
[ Haunted like Master Ronald's place is? By spirits different from shinki? ]
no subject
[No, not that kind of haunted.]
no subject
no subject
no subject

And it looks like it's a pretty important thing to be deciding on. Ren is suddenly there behind him, peering thoughtfully around his shoulder at the decorations in his hands.]
Why not both?
[As many decorations as possible is obviously the best choice here.]
no subject
[And so he just throws both into his cart.]
Thanks. Don't normally decorate for anything.
no subject
Do you only like Halloween?
no subject
[He was challenged and he wants to win.]
Thought it could be fun.
3
Even if helpful had gotten him in the middle of several of the most confusing shopping trips of his life, and then self-pressganged into helping decorate Ler's temple.]
What is the purpose to all of this fuss, exactly?
[Because Ryoma had just sort of been rolling with it in the background until now, but now was the time to ask. There's a strange not-quite-spidersilk film stuck in his hair that he can't quite get detangled, so, this is fine. This is life.]
no subject
And maybe not ask too many questions.]
It'll make it look nice.
[Those are just the facts.]
And scary.
no subject
[Ryoma, though he doesn't know it, has done dumber things for people he's liked just about as much as he likes Hak, so he's no stranger to frowning expressively at a task while still doing it for some unfathomable reason.]
I thought it was supposed to be... inviting.
no subject
[Gonna quickly tug out that cobweb, sorry.]
It'll be up for a few days and come right back down. It's not that big of a deal.
[Keep working, Ryoma.]
no subject
You're going through all of this fuss for one thing that's going to be over in a few days time?
[W h y this. He looks so incredulous, holding... a semi-realistic, rubber leg. It's squishy.]
no subject
[He shrugs his shoulders, continuing to put things up before walking to the next little hut.]
It'll be cool.
no subject
[Hak is a mystery wrapped in an enigma and sprinkled with a whole lot of unknown factors. Ryoma looks at the leg in his hand as if it holds all the secrets to this strange universe he's in. The leg does not speak back.]
So once it's all decorated, people are just going to come see it and leave?
no subject
[As if that is all the secrets to the strange universe.]
That's why I got the candy.
[Duh.]
2
[Hey, did Hak ask for advice from the kid in the tan beanie with a red pompom? No? Well, he's getting it anyway as the teenager in question stares dully into his cart.]
