Niles's Birthday party, Open mingle! Backdated

The weather is nice this evening, even if it's cold out. Zoro is at the door receiving everyone that walks in, directing them with words to the living room and kitchen, where there's a nice set up. There's music playing in the background, softly making the place seem inviting and relaxing.

The furniture in the living room had been arranged to fit people comfortably, either sitting or standing, with a coffee table right in the middle of the room, with small plates of food in them.

The kitchen was open to all, with more, bigger food platters on the counter. There were fruits in one platter, cheese and crackers in another, and a varied selection of cold cut meats in a third one. On top of the rest of the counter tops were a collection of petit fours, different selections of sweet, bite sized, pastries for those who enjoyed eating sweet things.

Bottles of wine rested in ice in different locations, and the fridge was filled with beer, vodka coolers, and sodas. Of course, water and fruit juices were available too.

Zoro hadn't really thought about presents, so if anyone has one, they can put it on the table by the door. It's small, but it will hold all kinds of things if piled up.

His idea was to have a gathering where Niles could have fun, so there's a karaoke game machine set up in the living room, just in case anyone decided to sing.

[Zoro waits for Niles to come downstairs, and Zoro is wearing his nice pants and a good looking shirt, which means he actually thought about what to wear just for his boyfriend.]

So I kinda decided to do something for you, for your birthday and all, so, umm, happy birthday.

[deniles]

Did you now?

[Niles is also dressed up, fairly simply. Smiling at Zoro and moving to kiss him on the cheek.]

[wadoichimonji]

[Zoro smiles at him, and then points with his thumb to the living room.]

I don't know if you like all of it, but there's some good foods all over the place. I didn't cook any of them, just ordered them from somewhere.

[deniles]

...No offense, but I am a little relieved. There's a lot of food, after all.

[And he's glad Zoro didn't have to take his time out to cook all of it.]

Thank you. I like everything savory.

[wadoichimonji]

There's a small cake too, in the freezer, it's ice cream.

[He got that mostly because he wanted to try it, really.]

And, uh, umm I got you something.

[deniles]

...You got me something?

[Niles blinks. The cake is okay, he'll try some, but Zoro got him something?]

What is it?

[wadoichimonji]

Well......

[Zoro sighs, and puts his hands in his pockets, looking away as he takes out a small box.]

Here.

[deniles]

[Niles blinks. Looking from the box. To Zoro. And then back to the box.]

...Zoro?

[wadoichimonji]

[Zoro sighs, looking at Niles.]

I know it's dumb and probably against some sort of rule, but I just wanted--

[He opens the box, where a simple silver ring is resting.]

Marry me?

[deniles]

...What?

[He's lost. He shouldn't be. Zoro probably prepared very carefully to do this. Then again.]

...I'm really sorry, I'm... what?

[wadoichimonji]

[Zoro sighs, and rolls is eye, taking the ring out of the box, offering it to Niles.]

Marriage, you, me, together, until one of us disappears forever.

[deniles]

[Niles is fairly impressed with what Zoro has done. Particularly pleased because there's not an actual cake here. Which means he's more than satisfied with the state of events.

And it seems that Niles is in a better mood than he normally is. So he's going around and talking to people, making sure they're enjoying themselves.

Though, at some point, he's going to sit down and eat a few things. If only to get some alone time.]

[Celty's come a long way, in her own way. She's gotten more willingly and openly social in general now that she's more used to life in the Far Shore. She's still wearing her helmet though, but mostly as a way to avoid attracting/stealing attention.

But it has been a while since she's last seen Niles, and as she waves to him from across the room she finds she's sincere in her thought that it's good to see him again.]

[deniles]

Ah, there you are.

[He smiles, nodding and waving back to her.]

Enjoying yourself?

[lookingforhead]

[She nods. As bumpy as their past encounters have been there's nothing really evil about how he does things, at least not that she's seen. She's comfortable living in the morally grey, even if she pokes others to be better sometimes.

And more to the point she's just happy to be here among the other people happy to be here. The crowd is comforting in its presence and she enjoys watching the social ebb and flow.]

[deniles]

That's good to hear. Glad to know Zoro's planning all went according to plan.

[It's incredible to watch. It's not super busy here, but it's entertaining to see how people move and work through the party.]

Did you need anything else?

[lookingforhead]

I'm fine. I'm afraid the food and drink are a bit wasted on me. But everyone else seems to enjoying them.

[She pauses and then her shoulders give an embarrassed squirm.]

I guess I should have brought something to contribute. I didn't even know what to bring as a gift. If you want a bottle of something or other I can run out and get it.

[deniles]

More for everyone else then, yes?

[Chuckling and shaking his head.]

Don't worry about it. The company is enough for me. So thank you for that.

[lookingforhead]

[She might usually laugh at such a joke, but having it aimed at her leads more to a slightly uncomfortable shrug.

Still...]

You seem a bit more
subdued than when I usually see you

is everything okay?

[She's pretty sure he IS enjoying himself. She just expected it to be a bit more...raucous?]

[deniles]

Ah, well... I'm not a big party person. It's a little overwhelming at times.

[He looks almost shameful to admit it too.]

But it's fine.

I can understand that. It's fun to be around people and to watch them and how they react to things.

But being the center of attention is something else entirely, right?

[Having helped provide some of the alcohol, Aymeric could not refuse to greet a friend at their own birthday. To some a shinki having one might be silly but it means something to others and he's happy to celebrate. Having left his present on the table (it's hard to wrap a new sturdy bow and quiver ok), he spots Niles and raises a hand in greeting.]

Are you having fun?

[deniles]

[He looks at Aymeric with a chuckle and a nod.]

I am. I didn't expect a party... but perhaps I should have. [Looking around.] It's a quiet affair, at least. No big groups, which I appreciate.

You have those who would wish to make you happy, who wish to acknowledge a special day for you. How could they not?

[He's a friend after all. Actual nameday be damned, it's just nice to spend time with people.]

[deniles]

I suppose I wasn't expecting it. I knew Zoro would do something, considering he picked the day and everything. But other than that... I was expecting nothing.

[But he got plenty.]
