What: Uncover the remaining secrets of the mysterious forest.
When: Nov 29 - 30
Where: Chichibu National Park & the Central District
Summary: A heavily forested wilderness area in Chichibu National Park is attracting dangerous numbers of ayakashi, and Heaven's forces suspect that this might be the mortal forest that was connected to the Heavens in order to kidnap gods and shinki a few weeks ago.

Walk in the Woods
- On the morning of the 29th, Heaven's messenger doves drop off small folded cards at the doors of every temple. The cards read,
- We believe that we have identified the location on the Near Shore where the human accomplices were working. As it is a large area, we offer you this information, in case you are able to assist us in searching for clues to the identity of the culprit. Please investigate with caution: there are reports of ayakashi in the area.
Attached is a map to a large national park in the Kanto region, with a section of the park cross-hatched in red pen. Anyone who goes to investigate the marked area will discover that it is heavily forested and contains about a mountain and a half; the ground is steep, muddy with autumn rain, and slick with dead leaves, though some red and orange colors are still grimly clinging to the branches overhead. Watch your step! The supernatural menace seems to have faded, but the purely natural hazards can do almost as much damage.
Heaven's forces, wearing white short jackets with gold chrysanthemum emblems over much more sensible jeans and hiking boots, can be seen here and there throughout the forest, searching for clues themselves. If somebody gets in a real jam, they might be willing to lend a hand.
Mysterious Trees
- Towards the center of the cross-hatched area, investigators may begin to see some familiar signs. Are those bits of torn-down spell papers still fluttering from nails driven into the trees? Vines and tree branches cut and broken by the hostage rescuers breaking through? Footprints, torn bits of black hooded cloaks... there are clues aplenty here.
There's something else, too: a mysterious presence still seems to haunt the forest. The trees might not move when anyone's watching, but it seems like they're in slightly different positions every time you look away and back. And what was that flicker of movement in the underbrush? Is there still someone here?!
Comment on the NPC REQUEST/CLUE SEARCH thread below to request specific details, or to go hunting for that mysterious presence.
Ayakashi Attacks
- There's more than one mysterious presence in these trees... and some of them are definitely not friendly. The forest's aura is unsettling and creepy enough to partially mask their approach, but ayakashi of all types and sizes seem to have been drawn here. Some wind along tree branches or soar through the air on fleshy, wide-spread wings. Others crawl or even burrow in the ground.
And all of them are excited at the possibility of a divine meal. Look out!
Autumn Leaf Viewing
- An area of the Central District planted with maple along a stone-walled canal has been decorated with hanging lanterns, comfortable spread mats and cushions, and an abundance of delicious food and drink on the afternoon of the 30th. Everyone is invited: new gods and old, those who helped investigate the Near Shore forest and those who didn't. For those who did investigate, though, one or two of the white-robed shinki who are helping with the party preparations and enjoying the food and drink themselves will take the opportunity to pull them aside and ask about their findings.
The party includes games as well as food and drink. Kites, poetry games, tag, hide-and-seek, card games and dice games are going on all over. There's even some determined board game and mahjong players who have brought their favorite game to the outdoor venue and are setting up on mats with immense care.
At one edge of the landscaped area where the party is being held, the ground slopes up, and is planted with a riot of bright gold, white and rust-red chrysanthemums. Like the ones that bloomed everywhere a few months ago, these flowers exude a sense of peace, confidence and security to anyone nearby, and especially those who pick the blooms to wear in their hair or their buttonhole.

In Summary:
- Investigate a wild forest
- Watch out for nasty trees
- Exorcise an ayakashi infestation
- Enjoy some hard-earned relaxation
- Have fun~

Can you free him from here or do you need to go down there?
no subject
Then with snap of fingers, he deactivates the rune and frees the agent of Heaven's. ]
I got to rethink this strategy [ he mutters, As he once again puts his hand around Ginia's waist and teleports them away. Here's hoping the shinki did not notice them ]
no subject
rank Eas well as his own idea for using his abilities to look for any clues. Magical residue, check; traces of spell, check. Not thinking it may be a trap, check. That's why he's currently tangled in vines and thorns in the middle of the forest. He has an inkling as to who does set such a trap, so when he suddenly feels a familiar presence his scowl deepens.]
Took you long enough.
no subject
It's perhaps a bit funnier when they land in their next location and Archer is ensnared in one of the traps. Ginia breaks into a grin at the sight, stifling a laugh with her hand. It's not like he's hurt, so it's fine, right?
However, their timing is good and the situation is no longer as funny when a voice rasps out from the underbrush.]
Delicious... smells delicious...
no subject
The bear is a surprise though ]
To me, Shuuki! [ Caster calls Ginia's vessel name ] Should we leave him there as bait?
[ That would be stupid and dangerous, but he has to make that joke, before they jump between the large ayakashi and still ensnared Archer ]
no subject
The ayakashi itself doesn't look too threatening once it leaves the safe hiding place. It's a small bear pup - no, correction, it's a plush bear pup made from remains of fur in various bright colors between the patches of black. Archer doesn't let his guard down, though, his swords ready.]
no subject
Not funny.
[Ginia rolls her eyes and flicks her tail at Caster as she sizes up the ayakashi. It's small. Surprisingly cute. However, cute or not, it's still an ayakashi and it needs to be destroyed.]
[The ayakashi toddles forward, round stumpy limbs slipping on the damp ground of the forest. Its head tilts, jaw opening and growing and growing and growing as rows and rows of sharp teeth glisten. It lunges and snaps its massive maw shut in anticipation of a delicious meal.]
WHAT THE FUCK. CALL ARCHER!
[It's probably the most startled Caster has ever heard Ginia as she slaps a borderline down between them and the ayakashi.]
no subject
Of course, the first instinct is to dodge that, but he can't allow leaving his shinki exposed. Just as Ginia suggests - yells - he calls Archer before the ayakashi can reach him ]
Come, Kyūki!
[ And there it goes, he's a pendant around his neck. ]
Can I get a ride? [ He jokes as his hand catches the white fur and he jumps on top of the giant cat- the ayakashi is surprisingly mobile and fast, because it didn't even slow down upon missing its intended victim, and lunges towards them
Yikes! ]
no subject
Then comes the call and in a blink he transforms safely.]
Hmph. Better late than never. [he says as he projects a spear into his god's hand and raises a borderline between them and the ayakashi.]
no subject
Are there other traps in the area we can lure the ayakashi into? Or I should avoid?
[The ayakashi beats against the borderlines, teeth upon teeth scraping against the barrier as it's repelled again and again.]
no subject
There, right next to that big tree with spell-
[ There lies another trap. The tree itself is further away from the convenient path. He risked catching one of the search party there, but it's a risk he took. Because just as agents of Heavens were likely to investigate it, the original makers could want to take away what they left.
But before they try to go, he'll try to strike the ayakashi when it's movement are hindered- by throwing the spear at it. Archer can give him a new one any moment, right? ]
no subject
That was close. [he comments idly as he considers the trap and then adds dryly.] I was planning to check it next, never taking into account that you're trying to catch some innocent bystanders.
Ginia, stop next to it. Caster, can you activate the rune even if our prey is in jump?
no subject
I might have walked into that one too. Caster, if you want to tie up your shinki so much, there are politer ways to go about it.
[Ginia smirks as she focuses back on the approaching ayakashi. It's back into its cute, fluffy form, the appearance slightly ruined by the gash on the side from Caster's attack. It toddles forward again, cute and innocent, but its speed picks up as it gets closer. Ginia crouches down, ears pinning back and a toothy snarl forming as she waits for the right timing.]
no subject
But polite version wouldn't work as a surprise! [ Caster never explicitly thought about "tying up his shinki" but thanks for giving him ideas... That might be useful someday~
Though once the ayakashi is dead he's going to take a run around defusing the traps. There are more people around than he anticipated. Archer soon gets an answer to his question because Caster readies to activate the trap- only to have the ayakashi apparently circle it? Can't let it happen ]
No way- Quick, push it into the trap! [ Can they produce more borderlines? ]
no subject
Kinky. I can show you some knots.
[Then ayakashi choses a wrong way, that's unexpected. Archer quickly throws two borderlines in quick sucession to push their prey into the trap, ready to project a sword. Luckily it works.]
no subject
[Playful banter or genuine interest? Who can tell. Ginia rounds on the ayakashi, throwing down borderlines to block and steer its path into the trap as well.
Something rustles in the bushes to the right of them; Ginia instinctively moves the borderline as an entire bush disappears and a mole ayakashi crawls out of the ground, clawing at the barrier.]
Focus on the bear, I'll watch the mole!
no subject
Respect.
But before continuing this lovely topic and attempt to embarrass each other - so far no winner in sight, contestants are going strong - there is an ayakashi to take care of. Now not just one but two of them. ]
I'm leaving it to you, Shuuki! [ Caster yells as he slides off the back of the leopard, while at the same time drawing in air an activation rune. The trap springs in the direction of the bear-like ayakashi, tendrils and vines trying to catch and immobilize the creature. Caster jumps forward, conjured weapon in hand, and slashes through air intent on rending the ayakashi with just one strike. ]
Why just watch? [ Because this is the moment to continue said embarrassing topic ]
no subject
Because I need a model to tie up.
[Archer slashes a borderline at the remaining ayakashi, intent on injuring its hind legs.]
no subject
Ginia pounces on the mole as it tries to slash at her, teeth sinking into its neck as she grips it with her claws and pins it.]
Really, Archer? You take me on one date and you already want to tie me up? You move fast.
[With the bear taken care of, Ginia hauls the mole over to Caster.]
no subject
[ Oh, is it a plane, is it a helicopter? No, it's a flying ayakashi, and fortunately, it doesn't seem to have any way to alter it's trajectory, making skewering it easier. Sadly it's not enough to rend it, and Caster throws the creature off the blade before it can touch him.
He jumps to it, intent to this time deal a final blow. ]
no subject
You said you want to watch, not to model my knots, so I'm going to use Caster.
[And the second ayakashi falls prey to trio of hunters.]
Nice flourish, Caster, even if you use a lot of extra moves.
no subject
Well. I know what I'm looking forward to tonight if you two aren't too tired.
[Ginia sits upright, prim and graceful, tail curling over her paws.]
Up for more hunting or should we go back to investigating?
no subject
[ With ayakashi gone Caster calls back his shinki back into their normal forms. And once they materialize each will has an arm thrown around their shoulder ]
However tied up I am, I'll always have time for you, promise. [ Awful bondage puns are going to be a thing for a while. ] But first, let's focus on the matter at hand.
[ No ayakashi around, so they can investigate more ]
no subject
I was trying to find any traces of spells in the forest. [while not taking into account that certain someone may set traps.]
no subject
Any luck with that? I'm trying to work back to where the sigils were and collecting what I can on the way.
