Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki



Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

Once they've had a chance to have things explained, they'll have the chance to relax and enjoy an afternoon party.




Meeting Hall

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter.

The speaker delivers her welcome speech with the intonation of someone who's practiced it many times. Newly arrived gods are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately. They are allowed to remain in the room as long as they wish, should they want to discuss questions with each other or with more experienced gods who are here to help out.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out informational pamphlets that have been freshly printed. They will be happy to answer any questions or instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline. They also accompany their answers, or lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

The dojo is back to its old, fully functional self; a set of motionless straw targets line one wall, to be used by people practicing with any of the weapons spread out on tables or hanging in racks on the walls. Outside, six animated straw targets wait in an area marked off with red ribbons and warning signs. Anyone entering the marked area may find themselves in combat with one (or more) of the magical training dummies. Those who leave the marked area, though, won't be chased.

Physical Training

Beyond the dojo, a scavenger hunt has been set up throughout the grounds of the Meeting Hall. Brightly colored plastic balls are hidden in shrubbery, tucked into support beams, floating among reeds in the ponds, and lurking in even cleverer hiding places. When a god or shinki gets their hand on one of them, they will burst open to reveal a hidden prize, such as candy, small toys, or accessories. How many can you find?

As well as the scavenger hunt, the white-robed shinki are engaging in more serious physical training and will be happy to let new gods or shinki join them. Sparring matches with practice weapons from the dojo, jogging laps around the hall, sit-ups, push-ups... or, for the younger shinki, competing to see who's the fastest to climb a tree.

Rest and Refreshments

Midafternoon, once the last of the scavenger-hunt prizes have been found, the white-robed shinki will turn their hands to clearing away the training equipment and laying out a lovely buffet table. Bright lanterns are hung from the trees, and a few shinki even take up a station on one side of the training area and begin playing shamisen, koto, wooden flute and drum. Although their instruments are traditional, their music selection ranges from some very classic Japanese tunes to others that sound surprisingly modern. The koto player can really rock!

Old and new gods and shinki alike are welcome to circulate, socialize with their friends, partake of the buffet food and enjoy the music. There's even room for those who feel inspired to dance, and plenty of privacy offered by the extensive garden for those who would rather retreat with their new partners to have a serious conversation.

I am sure you will. [A goddess. He's pretty sure Adrien is right and gender doesn't matter at all when it came to assignments, or at all really. He never had gotten his head round why William had been so insistant on calling Lady Grell a man.]

I think any god or goddess of cats fits you well.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Suzaku. [And he means that there isn't a trace of sarcasm to his words at all. It's nice to know that someone thins so highly of him and that he can do this. He laughs softly.]

[He smiles a tiny smile at the cat pun. It seemed that there were things about Adrien that would never change.]

Did you find the training helpful? [Adrien had been here a long time but he would still have a lot to learn about being a god rather than a shinki.]

God training isn't really much by the way of training so much as something like an info dump? I mean there are some new things I learned but most of it you know as a Shinki? Like prayers and how to treat your Shinki, what to do for your followers.. things like that. It's all just a lot of things to learn and process all over again.

[Suzaku nodded.] I guess it is more useful for gods who have just arrived in the heavens. [Rather than those who had been here a while and had somehow become gods after being shinki.]

I'm sure there are other things you will have to learn, but you are lucky you know people already. I'm sure Lady Marinette will help you a lot.

It certainly seemed that way which is fine. I mean I understand it. [Adrien gave a little shrug of his shoulders.] I was thinking of going to see someone else I knew that made a similar transition.

[He smiled.] I am. That was my good fortune. She would yes. I don't doubt that but I'd rather not bother her right now. She's having a difficult time adjusting I think so she may need a bit of time.

[He frowned a little at that though it was easy to see why Marionette would need some time. It was bound to be strange for her. At least she wasn't left without a shinki completely- she still had snake.] I'm not sure if you know Cho Hakkai. I met him when I first arrived. He used to be a shinki.

[He was the only person Suzslu knew that it had happened to. Except Mr. Spears but he was gone now.]

It's fine. I understand and I need a bit of time myself. there's a lot to sort through. He smiled slightly before giving a little nod. I've met him, we had dinner together once and I have been meaning to go see him again.

Hopefully, he won't mind me making a social call. Especially for something like this.

I am sure he won't, he was very helpful to me when I arrived. [And if they already knew each other that was even better.

I hope everything goes alright. I'm sure I'll see you soon. I'll come to collect Kotetsu soon, once I have met my new god. Provided they don't mind kittens.

[He's not sure what he will do if they do mind kittens. It's occured to him that adopting Kotetsu had been a little irresponsible of him.]

You're right. He seemed like a very nice and understanding person. Very kind, even when I asked him a lot of questions about his dragon. [He smiled gently.]

Things have a way of working themselves out. I hope you find your new god and they treat you kindly. [He's holding up a hand.] No rush. He's been doing really well with ours. If he needs to stay a bit longer I'm sure we don't mind keeping him for you.

[Hakkai had a dragon? That was something Suzaku had not known. He nodded at Adrien's words. It would not matter, really, if his new god treated him kindly or not but he does not argue that with Adrien. Adrien is one of the kindest people he has met and of course he would wish kindness on others.]

Yeah.. I think he said its name is Jeep or something? [ He does and he really does want everyone to have a good god like Marinette had been to him. Like he'd try to be to his Shinki. ] He's a good boy and very affectionate. He's been getting along with our girls, Ayn, and Martin, too.

[Suzaku smiled at that, he was glad that Kotetsu was settling fine and was getting along with the other kittens and the snakes.] He is good, I'm glad that he's getting along okay. [He gave a small smile.]

I should let you go, I am sure there's still a lot for you to sort out.

You don't need to worry. He's fine. He'll be fine and you can come visit him anytime you're free. You know that. I don't mind and no one else at the temple does either. [ He smiled before giving a little nod. ] So do you. Go get settled in with yout god. Take a while to get used to that new life - he'll be waiting to go home with you when he can.
