June Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: December 7th
Where: Outside the Meeting Hall, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from the many veteran new god and shinki volunteers.

Once they've had a chance to have things explained, they'll have the chance to relax and enjoy an afternoon party.

Meeting Hall

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a much nicer room than the warehouse where the last set of new gods got their informational speech. It's a smaller meeting room, with tatami floors and a small dais at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter.

The speaker delivers her welcome speech with the intonation of someone who's practiced it many times. Newly arrived gods are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately. They are allowed to remain in the room as long as they wish, should they want to discuss questions with each other or with more experienced gods who are here to help out.

Shinki Training

Various shinki in the white-and-gold of Amaterasu's hosuehold are stationed around the dojo, passing out informational pamphlets that have been freshly printed. They will be happy to answer any questions or instruct the newcomers in the use of the borderline. They also accompany their answers, or lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives.

The dojo is back to its old, fully functional self; a set of motionless straw targets line one wall, to be used by people practicing with any of the weapons spread out on tables or hanging in racks on the walls. Outside, six animated straw targets wait in an area marked off with red ribbons and warning signs. Anyone entering the marked area may find themselves in combat with one (or more) of the magical training dummies. Those who leave the marked area, though, won't be chased.

Physical Training

Beyond the dojo, a scavenger hunt has been set up throughout the grounds of the Meeting Hall. Brightly colored plastic balls are hidden in shrubbery, tucked into support beams, floating among reeds in the ponds, and lurking in even cleverer hiding places. When a god or shinki gets their hand on one of them, they will burst open to reveal a hidden prize, such as candy, small toys, or accessories. How many can you find?

As well as the scavenger hunt, the white-robed shinki are engaging in more serious physical training and will be happy to let new gods or shinki join them. Sparring matches with practice weapons from the dojo, jogging laps around the hall, sit-ups, push-ups... or, for the younger shinki, competing to see who's the fastest to climb a tree.

Rest and Refreshments

Midafternoon, once the last of the scavenger-hunt prizes have been found, the white-robed shinki will turn their hands to clearing away the training equipment and laying out a lovely buffet table. Bright lanterns are hung from the trees, and a few shinki even take up a station on one side of the training area and begin playing shamisen, koto, wooden flute and drum. Although their instruments are traditional, their music selection ranges from some very classic Japanese tunes to others that sound surprisingly modern. The koto player can really rock!

Old and new gods and shinki alike are welcome to circulate, socialize with their friends, partake of the buffet food and enjoy the music. There's even room for those who feel inspired to dance, and plenty of privacy offered by the extensive garden for those who would rather retreat with their new partners to have a serious conversation.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Get in some training
  • Relax at a party
  • Have fun~

God Training

[Richard isn't technically here to help. It's more that he was sticking his head into various rooms to see what might be going on and ended up in this one at a point where it would have been rude to walk out. But at least it means a chance to chat with new arrivals!]

One would think! It's enough to make one question this whole business!

[He certainly doesn't consider himself to be a god. Nor does he look like one. At all. Especially since he's once again chosen not to wear his armor or carry his sword. That wouldn't be so much of a problem except for the fact that he's chosen to dress in his usual leather jacket and ripped jeans instead. And the fact that he's carrying his guitar slung across his back even in the meeting hall.]

[Iskandar would not question the system. He knows he's divine. Always was. Current unveiling of events is just a further proof of that simple fact. Still he hoped for some gods with animal heads at least. Like the Egyptian ones. Even if all those present look a bit too human he would not doubt their godhood. They just don't look the part.]

I would not suggest anything so preposterous. I am simply stating an observation. What I found is different from what I expected.

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-06-26 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm quite content with being preposterous!

[This is the understatement of the century.]

I think I'm more used to being called "reckless" or "impossible," but "preposterous" sounds rather accurate to me, all things considered.

[And he doesn't sound the least bit concerned about it, either.]

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-06-27 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not exactly what I meant, boy.

[He's not quite sure what this kid in strange clothing is up to either. Or what kind of god he is for that matter. Divine protector of children perhaps?]

For sure you are energetic but I cannot imagine how one could take pride in being called reckless and foolish.
fauxcalibur: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-06-28 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it pride, certainly, but I've accepted it as an unchanging part of my nature.

[He shrugs it off easily. He's the first to admit he's not a particularly admirable person.]

That all aside, though, it seems we're talking at cross purposes. And I, as usual, am talking more of myself than of anything of importance.
towards_okeanos: (psa)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-06-28 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[That strictly depends on definition of admirability. There were many who would call Iskandar a tyrant and he wouldn't mind.]

Maybe we are. I don't mind changing the subject.
Especially as there are little to none topics of greater importance as one's character.
For a simple man should in all things exercise temperance.
If being a god is anything like being a king then temperance is exactly what one must avoid. To strive instead to show the length and breadth of what is possible. Nay, make what is impossible possible!

[Aristotle is turning in his grave. That's opposite of what he tried to teach but Iskandar always had his own views on everything. Including kingship, and now godship, and they are some pretty strong ones.]

If it is in your essence to be rash then you should be the epitome of rashness. So that people would look and say "This one indeed is reckless".
Many a time great courage would seem as recklessness to the faint-hearted.

[He laughs delightedly at that. They may not quite see eye to eye on some things, but it seems they are kindred spirits in other ways.]

If that's the case, then perhaps I've been living my life the right way all along! After all, despite my failings as a king, I am still remembered as "Lionheart" to this day!

[He's given little thought to the philosophy of it all, to be honest. And he really has no intention of starting now.]
towards_okeanos: (Default)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-06-29 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Lionheart?

[Iskandar smiled. He might look like a kid but that's a name fit for a king.]

With such a name what stories you must have to tell! I would gladly hear of your exploits.

[He looks around.]

Maybe in less formal setting and with some wine.

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-01 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly! If you wanted to go looking for a suitable location right now, you really wouldn't be missing anything. You won't be learning anything more useful than what you've already heard.

[Sure, the gods in charge of this whole "greeting new arrivals" business tend to frown on out of control day drinking, but seeing as he doesn't consider them as having even the slightest bit of authority over him, he doesn't see any reason not to do exactly what he wants in any given situation.]

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-01 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe I can take my leave. Do you have any specific places in mind?

[Iskandar doesn't discern day drinking from night drinking. He's of opinion that any part of day is suitable for drinking. He could even be surprised on discovery that anybody could have anything against alcohol at any given hour of the day.]
fauxcalibur: (sparkle)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm...

[There's a sparkle in Saber's eye. Oh, they have so many choices...]

Well, certainly we can stay here and find a place for ourselves, but there are so many other options! My temple is well stocked, but it would just be you and I, seeing as I'm sure my shinki will probably stay at the training hall. There's also the Near Shore, which is wide open to us!
towards_okeanos: (announcement)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-04 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't venture to Near Shore just yet. Also I'm still to find my shinki somewhere around here.

[Iskandar ponders his possibilities which, unfortunately, aren't that many.]

As for my own temple I cannot attest in what state it is. I have only seen in the morning. Which is why I would gladly accept suggestions.
fauxcalibur: (friends)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-05 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Then I'd say we should either remain here or go to my temple! Caster hasn't changed his Netflix password, so perhaps even a little light entertainment will be in order!

[Is this an excuse to ditch the meeting and watch kaiju movies? Probably.]
towards_okeanos: (Default)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-06 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Iskandar raises an eyebrow. Caster? Oh. That sounds disturbingly familiar. He would need to investigate. If there is another servant here maybe they'd know what happened. How they ended here.
Also brace for the loaded question incoming.]

What's Netflix?

A truly wondrous invention of this modern era! Something that, I fear, would have been my downfall had it existed 800 years or so ago.

[Though possibly not. He was better supervised then.]

I'm afraid I can't explain how it works because I barely understand it myself, but I make good use of it, that's for certain. It has a practically endless selection of movies to watch. I shall never be able to finish it all.

[Especially not if he watches things three and four times just because he can.]
towards_okeanos: (wink)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-08 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
An endless repository of tales. Verily. That could be a downfall of any man.

[This is something he can totally sympathize with. He's the guy who complained in letters to his friends back in Macedonia he has nothing to read. On his war campaign. And then he requested they send him books. Poor souls, his friends' servants, had to follow the trail of death and destruction his army left in their wake to deliver him the newest and freshest in current literature of the age. So yeah, he understands. Yet there is one work of art he loves more than anything else.]

Say, Lionheart, do they perchance have The Illiad on this wondrous device?
fauxcalibur: (huh??)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-10 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
The Iliad...

[He tips his head to the side as he thinks, then frowns and pulls out his phone when he comes up with nothing. It's funny how much he's gotten used to using it for everything.]

It seems there have been a few adaptations, but only one in the past 20 years or so and it seems it wasn't terribly well liked...

[He has to admit that it's not something he's sought out to watch on his own.]

Is that a particular favorite of yours?
towards_okeanos: (derp)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-12 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ho! Ho! Of course it is! How can it not be?! It's the greatest work of literature ever composed!

[He nods thinking for a moment before continuing.]

But I see it could be difficult to put into a movie. Still I would like to see it.

[He's knowledge of television and special effects is limited to things possible in early 1990's at most.]
fauxcalibur: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-18 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Terrible adaptations or ones that take great liberties are often just as entertaining as ones done faithfully and well! Though if there are movies made of your life...well, I suppose it would depend on an individual's ego as to how much entertainment they provide...

[He's certainly watched every movie about himself and anyone he knew in life that he can find. Though he frequently makes only a brief appearance...]
towards_okeanos: (t-shirt)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-19 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Movies? Hm, why not? I had people tell truly wild stories about me in the past. One can only imagine what they would come given distance in time and current state of the arts.

I would certainly like to watch such a movie.

[In fact he did deny credibility to some of the most egregious tales. He even had a personal historian appointed who followed him on his conquest - poor soul - for the very reason of having one reliable - and approved by him - source of information of his exploits for the general populace.]

Were there many movies made about your life, Lionheart?
fauxcalibur: (friends)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-20 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps not so many about my life, but certainly a great many where I'm a character! The most popular are actually about an associate of mine, but that's to be expected. There's a certain romance to stories about charming rogues who rebel against authority to protect the common man. You want to see them triumph more than you would want to see the victory of even the noblest king.

[He's not sure what Loxley would have to say about that, though, and sadly he's lost the ability to ask him.]

But really I'm just talking about myself again. If you gave me your name, I could see whether or not I could turn up something worth watching.
towards_okeanos: (announcement)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-20 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Charming rogues, huh? How come? I don't see much appeal in romanticizing those who oppose a rightful ruler.

[He was never a fan of insurrections in his empire. This lack of sentiment was usually expressed by delivering a swift and merciless bloodbath to the rebels... So nope, not a fan of charming rogues here.]

Ah yes, my mistake. You must have arrived after all the introductions!
I am Iskandar.
But I believe you can find more about me by my name in Greek: Alexander. Iskandar is Persian but I kind of like it.

fauxcalibur: (shock)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Alexander?!

[It takes a second or two for the shock to wear off.]

It's a great honor to meet such a legendary personage! As a king and leader of armies myself, I'm afraid the only way in which I can say I outdid you was by living a mere nine years longer.

[He seems awfully cheerful for someone discussing their mortality...]
towards_okeanos: (thunder)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2018-07-23 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The one and only!

[Finally somebody who properly recognizes him in this strange place!]

I proved difficult to outdo to many who tried so consider yourself in good company, Lionheart.

[Iskandar is not the one to be surprise by this cheerfulness. He could discuss his own death without blinking an eye. He just doesn't like to... it was not very glorious.]
fauxcalibur: (Default)

[personal profile] fauxcalibur 2018-07-26 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I can say that my country's empire eventually exceeded the scale of yours, but as I had nothing at all to do with it, I can't especially take much pride in it. And of course it's nowhere near that size in this day and age.

[He shrugs that one off. It isn't as if he spent that much time there to begin with.]
