Prayer #66

[ Kairi sent out over a dozen text messages asking if anyone was free to give her a hand with this. She had to laugh when it turned out to be four gods that responded the fastest. Go figure, right? She laughs once when they're all assembled and then smiles at them, placing her hands behind her back. They were in Japan, but still in one of the city centers: Yokohama. ]

Apparently one of Hajime's followers is one of those cool blended families with two major cultures! Some of them are from Egypt, which is how they knew about Neith, but then some of them are from China too. Even living here in Japan, they had a community they could celebrate Chinese New Year with. For some reason they stopped doing the immediate family traditions as much lately. I overheard something about maybe an older relative dying?

Anyway, first thing's first - brainstorming! Do you know anything about Chinese New Year or have any ideas about how we can encourage this person to bring the family back together?

As it happens, I know nothing at all. [Perhaps that is unsurprising, all things considered.] But I can perhaps offer some insight about other traditions instead. For such a mixed family, it may be more appropriate to start something new.

Never heard of Chinese New Year before, but maybe they can do a something of a mix between the two cultures since they're mixed?

[Well, he didn't realize there would be several others to help on this prayer but hey, the more the merrier! If explained, Aymeric may know it as Heavensturn where they celebrate both an Eorzean god and an animal from the Far East for the upcoming year.]

I am afraid that I too also have no knowledge of this holiday...but going with the previously suggested idea about combining two holidays sounds appropriate. Is there any celebrations in Egypt that may fit in?

Prayer #69 (Ginia, Roxas)

Hi Roxas! Thanks for joining us.

[ She gestures to Ginia nearby, who'd been able to arrive just a little earlier, to introduce her to Roxas. She can't blame Ginia for checking her phone often, what with being mute. Kairi meanwhile is signing for practice to Ginia while speaking at the same time, even though Ginia can hear just fine. It helps get her head in the right place to read Ginia's signs if she chooses to communicate that way, versus over text and hold up the phone like Celty does. ]

This is Ginia. I'm not sure if you two have met before, but Ginia has been a friend of mine for...

[ She trails off, looking at Ginia pointedly for confirmation. ]

About two months? And Ginia, this is Roxas...

[ She doesn't complete that sentence at all, just hoping Roxas will pick up his own introduction. She doesn't want to suggest they're automatically friends (again, already) either. ]

[Ginia pauses to check the date on her phone before nodding in agreement. Yep, just over two months. How fast time flies. She smiles at Roxas and politely bows her head at him, quickly typing up and playing the message through a text-to-speech app, a digitized alto voice reading the message out loud.]

It's nice to meet you, Roxas. I look forward to working on this prayer together.

[Just having his name said sounds like a good enough introduction as Roxas nods at Ginia. Having the phone talking for her seems a lot more handy than having to constantly read a screen. That's something he might want to tell Celty about the next time he sees her. And what was Kairi doing with her hands...]

Nice to meet you, too. I haven't done a lot of prayers-[At this time he hasn't done a single one]-but I'll try to keep up!

[ She smiles at Ginia and signs an “Oh yay!” That she was right. ]

Oh don’t worry about it Roxas, this one’s easy! Not an ayakashi in sight, so it’ll be fine for three shinki to handle on our own.

[ And though she’s curious about who his god is, that’s not something she wants to ask right now. ]

First thing is brainstorming ideas, ones we can actually do by ourselves to fulfill the prayer. They need help following a traditional holiday recipe that will be the main course at the holiday party, but it’s so traditional they’re worried about messing it up. So we can maybe encourage as well as help them out. The holiday, though... Have either of you heard about Chinese New Year?

Prayer #67 (Ginia, Chinatsu)

[ Kairi pulls Ginia and Chinatsu away from the small crowd of gods she'd been asking to help generate ideas earlier, now that they've arrived. ]

Oh I'm so happy to see you both! I think the three of us may be able to jump on what a couple of us were talking about earlier--

[ Then she pauses, trying to recall. ]

Actually do you two know each other? I thought I'd just check...

[ She chuckles a little and signs to Ginia a repeat of the same phrase she'd just said, to get herself back in the habit of reading Ginia's responses, as well as to follow it up with a gesture between Ginia and Chinatsu. ]

Since not everyone can understand hand signs easily, right?

[It's always nice working with familiar faces on prayers. Ginia smiles and nods at Kairi's question.]

We do! We've helped each out a few times already.

[Looking for missing gods, sniping bullies in laser tag, dusting an old onsen, it's all good. Ginia looks between the two, tapping her chin before taking out her phone and typing a message..]

Kairi, do you mind translating for me or should I use my phone? I don't mind using my phone if that's easier for everyone.

[ Oh, dang. Kairi knew sign language? Maybe Chinatsu needed to get on that..]

Sorry about this... [ She bows her head apologetically. She didn't want to be slowing things down. ]

"Later on, I'd be interested to hear how you communicated before, but this is fine!"

[ She's just curious, that's all. ]

"The person I'm trying to help celebrate their first Chinese New Year in a long time with their family is looking for a thank-you gift that will tell the oldest relative joining them how much they appreciate coming to the holiday party. So I'm trying to think of - one - how to convince the relative they should come, but also - two - a great gift to thank them for the trouble. Sounds like they'll be coming from further way than Yokohama for the event."

Prayer #70 (Celestia, Forrest, Marinette)

[ Kairi sees Forrest and Marinette arrive after the initial animated discussion between Kairi and so many of her god friends and gets a great idea when she sees them together. She gestures to the Princess Pony among the gods from the initial discussion. ]

Celestia! Hey, over here...

[ And she jogs over to Forrest and Marinette. ]

You won't believe it, but our friends over there helped me come up with a dozen great ideas to help the family of a Neith follower get back together, but they're such a cool blended family - they celebrate Chinese New Year, which I'd never even heard of before, and I thought the three of you would be great to help us figure out what the host should wear for such a momentous holiday!

Chinese New Year?

[Forrest hums, thinking to himself for a moment.]

I'm familiar with new year ceremonies and I know a little about Chinese clothing, but I don't know about that specific holiday. I'm sure we can figure it out with a little bit of research, though.

[Celestia is right behind, equine limbs eating up the distance without a need for haste.] More than just the outfit, we should consider everything. Mane -- ah, I mean, hairstyle can be very important to an outfit as well.

Don't worry, Forrest! A few of us already figured out a little bit about Chinese New Year! [ She holds up her phone. ] That Google thing really is amazing! Here, check out some of these photos to get inspired...

From what I saw, Celestia, I'm not even sure that people normally do that much with their hair.

[ But then Kairi had done a very broad search regarding outfits. ]

Which doesn't mean we can't suggest something! I just think it'll have to be kind of modern.
