[ Ain looks as if he's about to say something, but he closes his mouth. A couple of seconds pass before he speaks again ]

I found it strange that he would be the one to retain Henir's title. Logically... it is more suited to me, but I cannot replace him. I will continue to advise him on his role from now on.

[ Maybe it is because Add was once mortal that he is unable to truly be responsible.... ]

[ He immediately pauses at that, something finally clicking in his brain at that reply. ]

That’s…do I really want to know what you mean by that?

[ If he’s testy it’s because he’s worried, and because something’s finally dawned on him. ]

It’s almost as if…you’ve known him before…

Well, they've never brought this up, have they? It was not possible to talk about it much when he was a shinki, and he supposes it just slipped his mind... ]

We are from the same world... but, different timelines. Not that I think it matters much... I was brought here without my memory. We are friends even if I did not remember anything.

[ If Jakob thinks he can let it slide, then it will be so. Ain has no intention of dragging this out either. ]

I care for everyone at the temple. We worked together.

When I remembered where I came from... it made me realize the importance of those you work with. I don't intend to go back on that.

He closes his eyes for a few moments, then opens them again. ]

I don't usually need living spaces for myself, but I will have someone I need to take care of. I might need help making sure I have all the necessities.

[ Speaking of which, Jakob could meet his soulless that he was given... ]

Hmph. Of course that is easily done. [ Honestly he’s just glad that Ain’s shifted the topic away to less sappy things. ]

None can match me for hospitality, after all. Have you acquired a shinki of your own yet?

[ Ain nods. ]

I have. Though, he is similar to Heru. I have been told he is a soulless one.

[ He knows where Utsushi is in the temple, if only because he's aware of everything that goes on in his territory. ]

I think he is resting now... He is a little shy, but I don't think he is averse to you.

[ Nothing happens for a few seconds, then a youthful face peeks out from behind a pillar. The young man looks kind of like Ain, in the same way Heru looks like Add. There is a vague circuit pattern above his left eye, the only clue to his connection with his god.

Yet he seems quite mundane compared to Ain's entire otherworldliness ]

[ Well, he could be worse. ]

Seems a bit scruffy, don’t you think? [ But, beggars can’t be choosers and all that. ] I don’t particularly know how to care for the soulless, but I would assume having food and water and giving him plenty of rest when he needs it would be a start.

[ Although Ain already knows that much, at least. ]

What are his talents?

He doesn't have a vessel power.

[ The soulless are all like that, at least. Ain waves to his shinki, who leaves the pillar... but quickly walks to stand behind his god, as if hiding. ]

I don't suppose I'll need any further abilities... except, you need a god and shinki pair to rend ayakashi. The heavens gave me that and naught more.

[ Waving his hand dismissively— ]

That’s very well and good, but I meant: can he cook? Can he be expected to clean up after himself? Can he be left unsupervised? Even if you don’t need such mundane services he very well might.

[ He says this after a pause, casting Utsushi a look. The shinki shrinks a little further behind Ain's back ]

He can follow instructions. If anything, I can teach him.

Very well, I’ll do it. [ You’re an okay cook, Ain, but the guy doesn’t even have tentacles to help him… ]

It’s no trouble at all. I must do this for Add as well, in any case. It wouldn’t do for him to come and visit and be treated to such… [ He made a face. ] …mediocre hospitality.
