What: A volcano eruption threatens the Western District
When: Jan 14 - 16
Where: The Western District of the Heavens
Summary: The Western District volcano is erupting again, endangering nearby temples and sending ash sprinkling down across the Heavens. Is it natural, or another attack? Those who dare climb the volcano can find out.

Earthquake Warning
- On the morning of the 14th, an earthquake rattles windows throughout the Heavens. It's not strong enough to knock down buildings -- unless they're about to fall down anyway, like some of the older abandoned temples -- but it's strong enough to knock things off shelves and startle any late sleepers out of bed.
After the earthquake, strange sights abound around the Heavens. The poetic koi are swimming in organized schools in all of the canals, heading upstream towards the east. Springs of pure water burst out in some areas, and in others, normal springs or fountains have gone temporarily dry. Blue and green lights bob and weave across the landscape.
Falling Rock
- The volcano begins erupting with a roar and a bright scarlet glow on the horizon. Ash and bits of rock fall across the Western district, and may even reach into the Southwest, Northwest and southern Central districts. Volcanic glass fibers that look like golden hair collect on trees, fences and buildings.
Trails and fountains of lava are also erupting from freshly opened fissures and wending down the sides of the volcano. Gods and shinki who live in the Western District are going to need some help clearing ash and glass from their roofs, trying to re-route lava flows (the good news is, if you cool one side down enough, you can turn them! the bad news is, that takes a lot of work) or just offering them a spare room to stay until things calm down.
Swamp Gas
- It's not just lava and springwater erupting from mysterious new crevasses -- and it's not just mundane volcanic gases, either. Divine volcanic vents are blowing mind-altering fumes all over the Heavens. Anywhere across the Far Shore, but especially as characters get closer to the volcano, they may experience one or more of the following effects:
- Confusion
- Intense emotions
- Anger and irritability
- Impulsive behavior, loss of emotional control
- Hallucinations
- Unusually clear insight into other people and situations
- Coughing, eye and throat irritation, difficulty breathing
- Irresistible impulses to speak in poetry
Most symptoms will clear up after a few hours in fresh air, and all of them will be gone within 48 hours of the last volcano gas exposure.
Mountain Climbing
- Natural disasters don't just happen like this in the Heavens... do they? Amaterasu's white-robed shinki are convinced that something is wrong, and they're organizing into search parties to go up the mountain and seek out the cause of this eruption. New and old gods and shinki are welcome to join them, or form their own groups. All of the hazards -- tremors, lava, ash, and volcanic gas -- will get worse as characters ascend the volcano. Strange little spirit flames, in shades of red and blue, dance on the rocks, dazzling, confusing and threatening to singe interlopers.
And there's someone up here, too. A mysterious figure with glowing red eyes is keeping watch on the intruders and vanishing behind boulders whenever someone turns his way. He won't let anyone traveling with one of the white-robed shinki get too close, but solitary gods or shinki might manage to lure him into conversation, if they try....
OOC: Please comment to the 'NPC REQUEST' thread below in order to talk to the mysterious figure on the volcano.
Those climbing the volcano will have a chance to battle the mysterious figure should their characters choose to do so. If you're interested in a fight, please comment to the 'NPC FIGHT' thread below before the top-level is posted. A top-level for the fight will go up on IC Jan 16/OOC Sept 4.

In Summary:
- Don't get rattled
- Help out the Western District with their volcano problem
- Watch out for volcanic gases
- Find out who's behind the eruption
- Have fun~

So you're a god? God of what?
[Akutagawa believes the answer will be interesting no matter what it turns out to be. This man doesn't seem like much of a god.]
no subject
H-h-h-healing.
[ He's been told (or people have just thought) that before. 'you? a god?' ]
no subject
[ This man doesn't look like a god, but appearance doesn't matter if you have a valuable skill.]
Are you able to heal people? Or is that only the god you represent?
no subject
[ It's not really healing, but he can ease pain so they can bear whatever's happening until they can get help. ]
no subject
You can alleviate pain to some degree? That's all. I suppose if no one has an aspirin.
[ Akutagawa can still throw shade even if he's as wet as a dog.]
Though have you thought of using your power another way? It's hardly combative, but you could probably trick your enemy's pain receptors with your soothing ability.
no subject
[ His face flushes in humiliation. Maybe that wasn't Akutagawa's intention, he doesn't know him enough to say, but he sure feels pretty bad. ]
Ah, um, n-n-n-n-no... I w-wouldn't want to cause a-a-anyone any h-harm... Th-that would be a-awful.
no subject
So what would you do if someone was attacking you?
[He hopes at that height, he wouldn't cower in fear.]
no subject
...R-run...?
[ No, he'd probably cower and/or squeak. And then run. Or, in some cases, try to talk the person down if it's an attack due to an anxiety attack or something else that's mental and not in the other person's control. ]
no subject
[Akutagawa frowns at that. It just seems much too cowardly for his liking, but not everyone has a will to fight. It's just hard to see such cowardice from someone of such tall stature.]
I can't really understand you. My initial reaction would be trying to get to them before me. I suppose, fleeing is a form of self-preservation, at least, you know when you're outmatched.
no subject
[ Does that clear things up as to the parts he doesn't understand? Probably not, considering it's so far from how Akutagawa works.
This is when they reach Rasu's home though, and he is thankful to have something else to concentrate on. The building is mostly off the ground, propped up in the air, and he needs to climb down to check the poles that it's supported by. ]
no subject
They come to Rasu's temple and he seems interested in the way that it seems to be higher off the ground.]
This is your home? I've never seen a temple this far off the ground.
[Though he can see why Rasu might be concerned about the foundation. If something were to affect the poles that hold up the temple, it will come tumbling down.]
this time i remembered to include a link lol also mixed up an up for a down in the tag before oops
[ Maybe he'll be able to do that one day, but with his lack of confidence even that is hard.
It's not entirely off the ground, but most of it is, and he took the route to the bottom of the poles on purpose. And now he has no hesitation in climbing up the hill underneath the building to look closer ]
It's fine!
[ He knows that gods and shinki enter this world almost in the same way. Though, because he's a shinki, he's unsure of the process for a god. It seems they are given a temple when they arrive, and it doesn't seem like Rasu has much choice in how it looks. Though he could be wrong. Still, he doesn't look at the temple with disfavor, the style is something he can appreciate. Akutagawa likes things of a similar fashion.]
....you have an attractive temple.
[ It certainly is a compliment.
Akutagawa follows Rasu to the bottom of the poles. His eyes looking upward as if curious about how the pillars are sustaining the temple. He doesn't see any worrisome cracks in the poles, and the ground beneath their feet seem unaffected by the quake.]
Is there something in particular that you're looking for?
thank you!
[ Him and his Sawatari had to find it, but it had been there, like a cosy little beacon for them to call home while in this world.
He just nods in agreement at the compliment to the temple, because it's not like he's the one who built it or decided what it would look like, but he likes it. ]
D-damages... th-things that look different from b-before.
[ Some mud has shifted, but looking more closely than just afar, the poles seem to be okay. ]
I only know how to f-fix people, not structures so, I n-need to make sure to catch th-things early so I can get h-help before anything bad h-happens.
no subject
I can see why you would be concerned, but it doesn't seem like anything needs your attention at the moment. The structure is secure. Perhaps, we should check if everything inside of your temple is fine as well.
no subject
Oh. I, I guess so. I'm not... good at th-this, um, okay.
[ He moves around so he's not underneath the building anymore, and moves to the little path that leads up to it instead. It's not paved or anything, just a line of dirt where animals have walked and made a trail of their own.
He forgets to ask if Akutagawa will follow or if he wants to leave, but he's free to follow and see the temple now that he's here. ]
no subject
Not to mention...]
...I am still in need of a towel.
[Although most of his clothes have dried, he's still quite uncomfortable. He won't be able to use his ability if his clothes aren't thoroughly dry.]
no subject
Ah, of-of course!
[ He hurries to open the door and lets Akutagawa inside. The first room is big and mostly empty, the actual shrine part. Then inside the living quarters it looks mostly retro with some more modern things. The tv isn't a flat screen so it's only semi modern though, but the kitchen is nice. The whole place is pretty cosy, actually. He quickly hands Akutagawa a big fluffy towel before excusing himself for a moment to look around. ]
Sh-Shingo-kun, are you home?
[ No response, no shinki to be found. He doesn't seem to be home. Which is lucky, because some things are turned over, pots and pans in the kitchen on the floor, lamps and books having fallen as well. The biggest loss is a shattered teapot and Rasu finally relaxes. ]
He's not h-home, hopefully he's, he's doing okay out where he i-is.
no subject
He then accepts the towel from Rasu and as the other god goes to see about his shinki, Akutagawa works on drying himself off. His main focus is on his clothes, trying to soak up the excess water from them. When Rasu returns, Akutagawa is folding the towel and putting it to the side.]
Not here? Chances are he's out there. I'll probably head towards where the earthquake came from. What will you do?
no subject
Y-yeah. I, I'm going there t-too. [ He's got his first aid kit and all, got to make some use when you're not a fighter. He's looking oddly determined compared to how Akutagawa has seen him til now. He's going to make sure everyone gets proper care. ]
no subject
Then let's go...
[ His coat seems to be dry enough and Akutagawa places it back on. He then heads for the door, since there's no need to dawdle around anymore. There's a chance that whatever is happening will require them to be prepared to act. Whether it's attacking or healing, everyone will have a purpose.]
no subject
O-okay. D-do you need to borrow a scarf first? It's c-cold out and your b-body gets stiffer in th-the cold.
[ They're going to pass where the warm clothes are on their way out so it's not out of their way to get some. ]
no subject
[ Akutagawa refuses not because he worries about it being out of the way. He does see that Rasu's gesture is an act of kindness, though it's not necessary.]
...You did enough by offering me a towel.
[He seems more anxious to get outside and start heading out. He leaves from the temple, not looking back to see if Rasu is following. If Rasu is really determined to help, then he shouldn't be far behind.]
no subject
[ It doesn't take long to catch up with Akutagawa, since he's both tall and fast. He's going to make sure to take care of anyone that gets hurt! ]
