001 | The Welcoming Feast

Who: Everyone!
What: A little bit of explanation, thank goodness.
When: Early morning. (February 15, 2016)
Where: The Heavens. Specifically in the Meeting Hall.
Warnings: Exposition is coming your way, sit back and enjoy the show!

The Heavens have summoned you. And there is no way to turn down a summons from the Heavens. Of course, some of you know where you are and what you are probably doing here, but most of you might be completely confused as to what is going on. All gods have been ushered into the meeting hall, where every person suddenly becomes anonymous and obscured, while every shinki has been gathered up outside in the hallway, both sets to listen to the same message sent by Amaterasu herself. And while you cannot see her properly or really figure out what her voice sounds like, you definitely know that it's her speaking:

'Welcome, one and all, to Takamagahara. There are many new gods and shinki here today, and I hope you all find your stay pleasant. I wish that I could explain to you exactly why you find yourselves here now, but I am unsure of the details myself. Please make use of the shinki dedicated to our services in order to make yourself more acquainted with your new position. You can find them by looking for my golden insignia.

As compensation for the trouble you are all being put through, I have had a wonderful feast prepared. I only hope that it is to your liking. Feel free to eat and drink as much as you would like, though please do not leave before the clock chimes midnight, for that is when your homes will be prepared.

I ask that all pre-existing gods please help those new to our ways. Let them know what is and is not acceptable and what duties will be expected of them. I am counting on your all to support the Heavens in this confusing time as we attempt to sort things out.

Thank you all for your time. And I am truly sorry that you have found yourselves in this situation.

With that, the figure that is Amaterasu bows deeply and disappears from their sights. The gods are released from their chamber and the shinki are allowed to roam. All exits are manned by a white-clad shinki, bearing a golden, embroidered Chrysanthemum on their chests. So, technically, there is no way out. You can't even seem to teleport out by any means.

All that's really left to do is enjoy the food and hope that you'll actually be able to leave after the clock chimes midnight. Though the clock doesn't seem to work on a minute-by-minute basis either...

Banquet Hall

There is food from literally every culture and walk of life here. Everything is prepared gorgeously and deliciously, no expenses spared. There are shinki bearing the Chrysanthemum carrying out new platters of everything as it's eaten up and nothing seems to go hot or cold as time passes - it always at the perfect temperature for eating and it never tastes anything but delicious. Maybe there's a little magic making it taste so good...

On top of the delectable dinner, there are plenty of desserts and every kind of alcohol available and constantly being refilled. The liquor is being offered to gods and shinki alike, no matter how old they are/look. Let's hope that you can hold your alcohol.

Counselling

In the main hallway, there is an innocuous door with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". Inside the door is a small room with a few sweetly smiling shinki inside who are willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. They are also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and also any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

Did Someone Say Games?

A large room connected to the back of the banquet hall has a wide variety of games set up for everyone to enjoy. There are old-fashioned board games (like chess and Othello) as well as newer ones (like Candy Land and Sorry!). On top of that, there is every kind of console available with every video game ever made - and plenty of handheld devices for everyone to be able to play. The devices don't seem to work outside of this room, though, so you'll have to stay there if you want to keep playing. Gaming is, after all, a great way to get to know new people!

After Midnight

Finally, the clock starts to chime. It seems like it's been days and yet only minutes at the same time. Time seems to work so strangely here in Takamagahara and it's hard to keep up with what's going on. But now that the shinki guarding the doors have left their posts, you are more than welcome to leave. In fact, the Heavens seem to want you to leave because all of the food has disappeared, none of the games work anymore (including the board games, which keep flipping over when you try to play...), and the friendly shinki are smiling as they usher you out the doors.

You are welcome to start wandering around Takamagahara, but it's an ambiguous sort of place and might just take you straight home anyway. Feel free to go home and start bonding with your partner. Or sneak home with someone else because your partner is a meanie-pants. It's up to you!

In Summary:
  • Amaterasu says you're stuck here and she doesn't know why. Sorry!
  • There's lots of food to eat, though! Eat your fill.
  • Oh, and there's booze too. Try not to get TOO drunk.
  • Guidance/Grief counselling is available, if you need it.
  • Use gaming to get close to others!
  • Try to start bonding with your god/shinki. Or just form new friendships. Whatever you feel best doing!
  • Have fun!

Bo wasn't the type to play games with people. She was direct and honest. If she was angry with someone, they most definitely would hear about it. But she knew one needed a good strategy at times, and she did utilize it when needed, but even then she wouldn't use people for her own ends.

"Lucky you," she said with a self-deprecating smirk. She'd long come to terms with being Fae, but she didn't really like explaining the Fae, in general, to those who didn't know of them. It was complicated and most aspects of Fae society she loathed. But that was neither here nor there currently. "Being in a leadership position is never easy. I've led my share of small armies into battle. Not everyone came back alive." Ciara. Kenzi. Rainer. Tamsin. Tamsin hadn't died in battle, but she had died because of Hades. Her grandfather. Her mother. The deaths hung heavy on her.

"So it would seem we are in yet another position wherein we may be leading people again." Bo didn't know if war was looming, but being a god, it went with the territory that they would be leading some amount of people.

"Mn. Seems like it." If he had a mouth there would be a grim, toothy smile on it. Vector didn't, so his voice did all the work and carried it for him.

"The people here seem to be a bit suspicious as well. The shinkis are trying to help. The gods try to be nice, but everyone is confused and at least those in the know seem to wonder if it isn't..." Trailing off, he raised his hands and shook his head. "...might be stupid saying that. No details, so naming names won't be constructive.

General consensus seems to be that it might be for the best to keep your eyes open and be prepared, though." The question was: for who or what?

This was definitely not the best situation, but it also wasn't the worst Bo had ever found herself in. So for the time being, she was merely trying to get a feel for everything. Bo did get the sense that she couldn't exactly be the wrecking ball with the gods like she had been with the Fae, carving her own path out. She suddenly had a completely different situation and a new set of powers and responsibilities. But she would start trying to find things out.

"It always seems to be a case of keeping your eyes open and be prepared for something happening. It does seem that the gods that were here before don't really know or understand what's going on right now, but that also doesn't sit well with me." Bo wasn't the type to just sit and wait for things to happen. But she'd need to be smarter about getting information.
jyajyaaan: (oh yeah?)

Vector gave her a silent look as if to let her sort her thoughts out by speaking them while he mentally rolled his eyes. Yeah, yeah, he just told her as much already! If this were any of the other Barians he'd mock them by now.

"It's worrisome." He agreed instead.

Raising a hand, he gestured towards the dark path in front of them. On one side, the city: light from places that all housed different experiences and lives, most of them native to this new land. The other side held mostly darkness in wait for them; homes that were supposedly theirs yet also were most definitely not, unanswered questions, even more things to ask about. Maybe the company of friends. Maybe betrayal waiting to happen.

"But I do not think that the forceful path is the right one for now."

There was a lot to wrap her mind around. Bo suddenly felt like she was back to when she'd just learned that she was Fae and that there was this whole world she'd never known about before. It would take a bit of getting used to on her part. Learning new things, new roles, finding out how divided or unified the gods actually were.

So long as she didn't have to sit there in the unaligned middle between two halves on the brink of war with each other again. Doing that with the Fae had been difficult and headache-inducing enough. She didn't need to repeat the experience.

"I'm the type that upon hitting a roadblock, I break it down. And if it doesn't break, regardless of how much I attack, I find a way around it." People withheld knowledge all the time. Everyone she'd known, save Kenzi, had lied to her for one reason or another. And she hated playing games like that when she needed information.

She looked down the path, noting the city lights on one side, and the darkness on the other. It seemed ominous, something she wasn't certain if it would lead to pain or not. Bo was certain it wouldn't be sunshine and rainbows, but she could still hope that it wouldn't be awful as a lot of the shit she'd suffered in her own world.

"How heroic." Somehow he managed to keep his voice even with just the faintest ring of a playful note tinting it. "I'm the kind of person who will wonder why and how that roadblock came to be in the first place, personally."

Conventional options were good, but Vector preferred the ones that most wouldn't even consider. That and a whole box full of backup plans if options A to Z fell through for one reason or another. Most seemed to consider that an ominous sign of his character, but to the monochrome Barian it wasn't even with any evil intent. He simply liked to think of possibilities and entertain himself with what-ifs.

It had helped him forge peace treaties just as it had helped him see kingdom's fall.

But it wasn't evil. It was simply him. He didn't lash out without being given a reason first. "Do you mind if I call upon you if I need some roadblock breaking? One can never have enough allies in a place like this."

"Fair enough, the world needs people like that. I'm just one who prefers to tear it down and get around it." There was a time and a place for figuring out why the barrier would be there. Bo didn't always have the patience for it if she saw some other, quicker way to get to her goal.

Especially if she thought the roadblock was a stupid one, she preferred tearing it down anyway. She didn't have much tolerance for prejudices and old ways when they were sorely outdated and doing nothing but holding people back from progressing into the modern world. The Fae had needed to be dragged out of the Dark Ages and into the 21st Century.

"Not at all, I'd be more than happy to help break down a roadblock if you need it. Likewise, would you mind if I called on you for figuring out why and how the roadblock came to be?" It seemed a fair trade, and Bo did do collaborative work. The only time she would get uppity about working with people was if they started railroading her or being generally unable to work well with others.
