Who: Data-Roxas and whoever trips over him.
When: 1/18
Where: Near Shore
What: Being spooky and helpful, the usual.
A. Helping Hand
[When he isn't needed for any tasks in particular, Roxas aims to familiarize himself with his surroundings. And so for this reason, today he's wandering through a park in the living world. He happens to pass by a crying child, his mother trying to console him, and it doesn't take much to overhear that a favored toy fell into the nearby pond. The problem is straightforward, and it seems to him so is the solution.
So what does Roxas do? He vanishes in a flurry of luminescent zeroes and ones, gone from sight. It seems he's left, until he reappears abruptly several minutes later. His coat is drenched, shoulders hunched against the cold as he places a plastic truck near the child and his mother.
That's not all he found though, various objects clasped in his free hand, including a waterlogged wallet, a muddy ring, and a baseball. What to do with this junk? He has no idea]
B. Second Shadow
[Having helped out with one easily resolved problem, Roxas thinks it might not be a bad idea to see if there's anything else he can fix. Besides, moving keeps him from thinking about how cod he is, and warms him a little.
He quickly finds himself part of a recurring trend. Whenever the living do notice his assistance, they react in alarm. Whether it's an old lady who screams upon noticing him trailing after her with the purse she had forgotten, or picking up a dropped toy for an infant, the result seems fairly uniform.
And he's really not sure why.
After several such incidents, Roxas examines himself, looking at his hands and arms at different angles as he walks. Does he look that strange...? He's so distracted by trying to look himself over that he bumps right into someone. Unfortunately, he's wet. And it's cold. Fortunately (or maybe more unfortunately) his hand snaps up with mechanical precision to catch that person's arm and brace them]
Oh, sorry. I was... [Ruminating, but nevermind that] You alright?
C. Calling Backup: Closed to Ain
[After some time spent pondering why people respond to him as they do, and recalling even some other shinki have done the same, Roxas decides to seek some advice. And who better to ask than his fellow not-quite-human, with whom he's discussed matters of outside perspective before?
He's still not used to texting Ain rather than finding his limbs littered about the temple, but he'll have to adapt]
Can I ask you something?
D. Change is Hard
[The simple thing with Roxas is that no one has seen his face. He shares a name with someone, not that he's aware of it, but no one mistakes someone clad in solid black without a face for anyone else. Now, though, Roxas sits in a café with the results of his and Ain's joint clothing ventures and a cup of hot cocoa.
So for once in his existence, Roxas is dressed like anybody else. Well, sort of. He'd picked dark jeans and a black hooded jacket with a skeleton key for a zipper tab, and he's wearing the hood for comfort even now since people don't really notice him. Like this, he might pass for an average teenager, but for the way he keeps tugging the hood down as though he means to cover his face with it.
Maybe this will alarm people less (or cause confusion for anyone who knows Roxas Classic or Ventus), but he feels strangely exposed]

He'll remind him that he said it, too.
But it seems to him Jakob's pretty concerned about him being wet and cold, for some reason. Roxas considers this for a few moments with his usual unnerving stillness before he responds]
...I guess turns sound fair.
no subject
Yes. Now please allow me to escort you home. I’ll prepare you a nice treat to warm you up.
[ Please let him spoil you. ]
no subject
For now, Roxas nods along]
Okay.
[Tell him to let go like a normal person...]
Were you doing something here though?
no subject
Roxas? Are you quite sure that nothing else is wrong?
no subject
[Since Jakob worries about others so much, he's pretty sure it's entirely possible he'd go without saying anything]
But should we finish your errands first?
no subject
[ Now please let go and let him take you home— ]
no subject
Or move his arm about in a blatant hint]
Are you sure? If they're nearby, it's more efficient.
no subject
This is vexing. ]
Not at all; they’d take far too much time and I simply can’t allow you to endure the cold any longer.
no subject
Far too late to resemble any sense of normalcy in his timing, but at least Jakob is freed of his icy clutches]
If you really think it's best...
[Though the reluctance is evident]
no subject
Indeed, er…you needn’t worry about me. [ Honestly it’s always concerning when he is. ]
It is my duty to look after you first and foremost.
no subject
[Roxas can only surmise that this is what Jakob means, though no one has expressed it in such terms. Add had called them partners, and they'd all gone looking for Rin when he'd disappeared, but there's a strange weight to the words Jakob has chosen to use]
If that's the case, then I should worry about you too.
[This again]
no subject
Well, wouldn’t we both be better off out of the cold first? [ He doesn’t want to go so far as to call Roxas an excuse for getting out of errands, buuuuut… ]
no subject
[Except on the worrying about Jakob part, but details.
While he still thinks the errands seem important enough not to abandon just because he's wet, Jakob seems worried enough about it that he supposes it's more time wasted if he keeps asking whether he's sure]
no subject
Please come with me. Our shrine shouldn’t be far off. [ And the sooner they can get out of this gross Near Shore climate, the better. ]
no subject
[He waits for Jakob to lead, falling into step behind him]
Do you want help with your errands later?
[When he's not wet, surely it wouldn't be objectionable to help him in return]
no subject
I…suppose it wouldn’t hurt, though really, I think that all that’s beneath you.
no subject
[A faint note of puzzlement seeps into his tone, head tipping to one side in a fine imitation of a cat]
But I'm the same as you.
no subject
That—That is, I am sure that I can handle the errands on my own.
no subject
Do you prefer doing things by yourself?
no subject
no subject
[Well, perhaps not understand, exactly. But he accepts it]
no subject
But now that their stations are equal, he does wonder… ]
If it wouldn’t be too impertinent of me…do you feel the same way? [ It’s probably evident enough that Roxas tends to stay quiet and keep out of everyone’s way, but… ]
no subject
I think...I might've been used to it.
[He's unsure whether he liked it that way, or does now, but being alone seems so much a normal state of being that he's left with this impression]
no subject
My errands can be quickly done, so I do not truly need the help. However…I… [ It never gets any easier, dealing with him like this. ]
When…When I am done, I should like enjoy some tea with you afterward. I will have desserts prepared, of course.
no subject
If it's his idea though...]
If you're sure you want to, I can wait.
