Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from more experienced god and shinki volunteers.

God Training
- Newly arrived gods are escorted into a small meeting room, with tatami floors and a stage at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. Paper and pens are provided to all the attendees as an unsubtle suggestion to take notes on the information they're given.
The speaker delivers her welcome speech in the monotone of someone who's practiced it far too often. Hopefully no one's feeling sleepy! She adds that gods should be cautious of anyone on the Near Shore who might ask to use their shrines to visit the Heavens, and should instruct their shinki to be cautious as well. There is at least one unrecognized god who the Heavens believe to be attacking them, and another recent incursion by an unrecognized god ended in his defeat and the extinguishing of the volcano he had caused to erupt. Newly arrived gods are encouraged to discuss the information with each other and ask questions of more experienced gods, as well as instructed to guide their new shinki appropriately. They are allowed to remain in the room as long as they wish, should they want to discuss questions with each other or with more experienced gods who are here to help out.
Shinki Training
- There are stacks of informational pamphlets sitting out on tables around the dojo. There aren't very many of the white-robed shinki around, but the few who are present will willingly answer any questions or instruct newcomers in the use of the borderline. They accompany their answers, or their lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives. Each of the shinki is wearing a brightly-colored sticky name tag reading HELLO, MY NAME IS ________, and all of their names appear to end with the syllable "mei."
A variety of weapons are available in the dojo for shinki and their gods to practice with, and a row of straw targets are set up along one wall. Outside, in an area carefully roped off with red ribbons, are six animated training dummies, also made of straw and dressed in plain cotton jackets and trousers. They will immediately engage anyone who enters the area marked with the ribbon, but will not pursue opponents outside it. A white-robed shinki who appears upset and visibly distracted is keeping an eye on the training dummies, and will intervene if anyone tries to destroy one. He is wearing a slightly battered nametag that reads HELLO, MY NAME IS SABIMEI. (Sabimei is an expert in shinki magic and will assist characters who need help with spells or who want to learn a new spell. If you want a thread with him or have any questions about handwaving something, please comment on the NPC REQUEST thread below. Characters who want to begin learning a new spell from him do not have to thread it out, but should comment on the Shinki Spells and Songs page to begin learning the spell.)
Physical Training
- There are no special obstacle courses or training areas set up for the newcomers at this welcome session. Instead, the white-robed shinki will invite any gods or shinki who are willing to help with cleanup in the Western District of the Far Shore. A recent volcanic eruption has left heavy ash fall on temple roofs and fallen trees or mud clogging roads. Some of them are singing in chorus to summon small rainstorms or winds to clear away the obstacles; others are just using brooms and ropes to sweep away ash or drag away trees, and help of the magical or physical variety will be appreciated.
Rest and Refreshments
- Once it begins to grow dark, everyone helping to clean up the Western District will be brought back to the dojo to rejoin those who chose to remain there. Traditional public baths are available for everyone to wash off the mud, ash and sweat of their hard work and soak comfortably in a warm communal pool afterwards, and a generous banquet has been laid for everyone. The tables are full of beer and sake (or tea and soda for the non-drinkers), plates of sushi and sashimi, deep-fried vegetables and shrimp, and warm soups to counteract the chill of the January weather.
After dinner, a middle-aged woman sets up an open mic. She starts out the evening by turning on her karaoke machine and performing a few jazzy older songs, and turns the mic over from there to a man with very old-fashioned manners who recites a few poems. Anyone who wants to take time at the microphone is welcome, whether they're performing, doing karaoke, telling jokes, or delivering speeches or information.

In Summary:
- Get all the information you can handle
- Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
- Help clean up ash and clear roads
- Enjoy a welcome banquet
- Have fun~
Rest and Refreshments
Next time I should make you carry your own plate.
Aww, that's not nice~!
[But she's saved from having to answer that by Pidge's arrival, and she watches her thoughtfully for a moment. It's still a little funny that people kept coming, but nobody knew how to get home.
But instead of dwelling on that, she's decided to do what she does best. New people meant new potential friends, after all. So she's just going to casually snatch one of the cookies off of Tikki's plate and slide it over on a napkin.]
Hi!
no subject
The cookie being slid over is enough to get her attention away from the phone as she looks curiously at the other young lady.]
Hello.
[Please don't be like Hibiki.]
no subject
She does help herself to a croissant in the meantime.]
I hope I'm not bothering you. But I didn't recognize you, so I wanted to see if you were settling in okay.
no subject
I just got here. It's more than a little confusing because it feels like the pamphlet given to the gods feels so incomplete. There should be more information regarding on how and why we're here.
no subject
Yea, I wish there was someone who could tell us that. I've been here for nearly a year and I'm still not sure how to feel about having to fill in for a god. Which one are you?
no subject
Hermes, Greek god of trade, thieves, travelers, and a bunch of other stuff, and messenger to the gods.
no subject
I'm afraid I don't know much about mythology. [Aside from everything she'd learned in one way or another about Fortuna.]
That sounds really neat. Anyway! I'm Marinette. Or Fortuna.
[The irony's still not lost on her, and Tikki just chuckles, having finished her cookie.]
You don't have to say it like that, Marinette. It's not that surprising~
no subject
[Not that Pidge knows too much about gods either. There was always more important things to do, like learn more about alien species and their technology. Which... might be impossible here.]
What species is your little friend here?
no subject
[If this sounds a little rehearsed, it's because it is, and she's trying very hard not to roll her eyes.]
It's nice to meet you, Pidge!
[Tikki's about halfway through her pile when Pidge asks about her, though, and somehow manages to smile despite having a face full.]
Tikki's a kwami. Specifically, the one of creation. And she's the reason I'm able to become Ladybug.
[This is all said very matter-of-factly, as though it's the most natural thing in the world to talk about one's secret identity.]
no subject
A kwami...]
I don't think I've ever heard or read about that species. [Does that mean the Altean database she used to have access to was outdated? It could be. It's been 10,000 years.
Though that second part sounds off.]
You turn into a Ladybug?
no subject
I hadn't heard about them either, until the earrings showed up in my room and Tikki popped out of them like a genie!
[100% serious here, Pidge. But by that point, Tikki's decided to take a break, and she'll float over to hover closer to where Pidge is sitting.]
Marinette is the current holder of the Ladybug miraculous. It and the Black Cat are a matched set. A yin and yang. If she says the words, she'll become Ladybug and will be able to channel the powers of good luck and creation to defend her home against Papillon and the unsuspecting people he akumatizes. Fortunately, Papillon hasn't come here yet...
[Marinette realizes, of course, how outlandish this all sounds. Then again, they're sitting in heaven right now.]
Guess who was thrilled to find out I got assigned Fortuna. And I mean... I can show you. I always figured it was supposed to be a secret, but considering how this place is, I don't see the point anymore. Chat already knows who I am and none of my other friends or family are here...
[And she'd discovered his identity by watching him die.]
no subject
[Oh this is starting to sound a little too much like-] Magic.
[Of course it's magic. Magic seems to be everywhere, and it wasn't something science could prove exists or doesn't. It was just there, and it was frustrating that Pidge couldn't science explain it. Just the term magic was irritating because she wants to know so badly how to make it work! Even with the lions she could explain the machinery, but their abilities? Nope.
Maybe she should look more into magic to make sense of it, but where to begin...]
You're making it sound like you're some kind of superhero.
no subject
[She doesn't make the rules, okay?] Yea.
[But based on everything Tikki's told her, and everything she's discovered in other ways, Marinette is pretty content to just embrace magic as an explanation.]
Well... I'm Ladybug. But I'm not the only one. Or even the first. And I probably won't be the last.
no subject
And she's fine being stuck in those earrings?
[That... sounds pseudo-familiar. Except Pidge is only the second pilot of the Green Lion, and hopefully the last.]
What's the point of being Ladybug?
no subject
[Fortunately, Marinette hasn't had a reason to take them off recently, so the point is moot.]
There's a man who also has a miraculous where I'm from. But he uses his powers to manipulate people's negative emotions and turn them into terrible versions of themselves. It's Ladybug and Chat Noir's job to try and stop him. [It's probably fine as long as she doesn't give away who Chat is, right?]
But we're both here, and he's still there, and honestly I'm terrified for what that means for my friends and family.
no subject
[And Pidge is hoping Allura never makes it here. Or the others for that matter.
won't she be surprised at the next training.]Your life is really sounding more and more like a kids superhero show. I can't say much because I live a life that would make for possible good TV, but yours at least sounds like you get to stay in one place. [Meaning at least Marinette won't have to worry about the enemy suddenly relocating to another galaxy entirely.]
Would you rather he be here so you can keep an eye on him?
no subject
[She wouldn't wish this place on anyone, honestly. But Marinette just has to smile at that next comment.]
Kids do love Ladybug and Chat Noir. And yea, we don't really... leave Paris. I'm still not sure how we ended up here. [Maybe that'll change in the future, but she's not holding her breath waiting for it.]
Mmm... I can't decide. On the one hand, it's nice to have a break for a while. But on the other, he's probably just making life miserable for everyone while we're not around to stop him.
no subject
[Allura would hate not being able to go into space. Being stuck here without her Lion.]
I don't know either. I was in space. It shouldn't have been possible to be pulled into a random dimension and time like this. [Wait till you meet Bob, Pidge...
That does sound like a dilemma.] Aren't there any other superheros in your town?
no subject
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
[Not that that would really have any effect on whether or not someone wound op here, but it's the thought that counts. And she's pretty sure even her heaven-granted power wouldn't make any difference. That comment is enough to get her attention, though.]
Like... space space? Outer space? [That's certainly something.]
Oh um... no. It's mostly Chat Noir and Ladybug. But even if there were others, Ladybug is the only one who can fix any akuma-related damage to the city.
no subject
Nodding, Pidge looks rather proud of herself.]
Yeah, all over the universe. We had a castle that could create wormholes that could take us anywhere in a jiffy. It was pretty awesome.
[Not going to mention flying around in a giant cat-like mecha that could turn into a giant man mech just yet.]
So if something was destroyed, you fixed it? Did that include wiping memories, or were those kept in tact?
no subject
Wow! That sounds really neat. We've never done anything like that. What kind of castle?
[Nor did she imagine that something like that was actually possible.]
Yep! Miraculous Ladybug will fix any damage an akuma causes. I fixed the entire city of Paris once. Oh, no. I don't have the ability to wipe memories or anything like that. And uh... I'm not sure if people remember everything they did while akumatized. [She's never asked, and she probably never will.]
Ladybug just has the Lucky Charm that spawns some kind of conveniently useful item for the situation... and Miraculous Ladybug, which I've already mentioned. And I can't use the latter without first using the former. The lucky charm is the catalyst.
no subject
[And now it's all gone. Don't need to tell Marinette that, though.
Something like that sounds like it would need a massive amount of energy. Marinette, you look too small to have that amount of "city fixing energy", but then again, Allura was able to heal an entire Balmera...]
So you're depending entirely on luck to fix things. That sounds like it could be a disaster if luck isn't on your side.
no subject
[She might be casually trying to picture a castle flying through space now. Hmm.
But it's fine, Pidge. The energy comes from Tikki and the miraculous, so there's that!]
If I'm honest, it does sound a little ridiculous. But we've always managed to win the day and fix things up until this point.
[And then they were dragged here and things went to hell.]
I don't want to rely on luck. It seems a little silly and I'm not even sure I'm doing a good job. People keep asking for good luck for themselves or bad luck for their rivals and it's all just... ridiculous.
no subject
[Yeah, that's totally descriptive right there.
.....]
Well, unless you can change what god you are, I think you're just stick with that until you leave this place. I'm not looking forward to being asked to deliver messages.
no subject
[That sure is a descriptive description right there, Pidge. A+.]
I don't think it works that way. But I know there are some gods who have disappeared and come back as shinki later.... and vice versa. So....
[So anything's possible, right?]
Hey, delivering messages doesn't sound terrible. I think I'd almost rather do that.
