Who: Open!
When: February 10-13
Where: Near Shore mostly, on the Japanese and European sides.
What: Local Hat Kid decides to do what she does best.

A - Near Shore, Japan. I spy.

[Once a certain kid figured out how this new god teleportation thing works, it was not long after that she discovered there was two locations to get into this "Near Shore" place everyone talks about. And wow, despite being so closely named, they could not be any different.]

[Actually, Near and Far are supposed to be opposites. Never mind that.]

[It was a bit of a walk to get to a part of the town with had a lot of people in it. None of the humans could see or hear her either, and that was an especially weird experience. But it was a great way to overhear conversations they had. ...It's just too bad most of them were boring. And not at all what she was looking for.]

[Okay eavesdropping was going no where - time to go higher up and have a larger look around. She eventually found a way to get up to the awnings that lined the streets, and now looking for a path to get on the roof of the buildings themselves.]

[Though the mortals would never notice a thing, not everything nearby was completely blind to gods. Particularly something slimy, amphibious, and also a skilled jumper. It was being a patient stalker, for now. Perhaps waiting to see first if its meal was going to fall. It can keep following the tiny god for as long as it needed to.]

B - Near Shore, Northern Europe. Adjusting to the Norse lifestyle.

[After a less successful day yesterday to find Time Pieces, the kid tried searching again at the second shrine. This time greeted by a ton of snow outside, and it's cold. A moment like this made her wish her raincoat hadn't disappeared, it might be slightly warmer than this. ...Oh well, it will be less of an issue once she got moving.]

[And it went fairly fine there on. The hook shot actually worked pretty damn well to avoid the snow all together and just stay in the trees, where it was faster to swing branch to branch. Feeling a little like a certain kind of super hero.]

Wah-! [For a short while, anyway.]

[The frost on one of the tree branches was too slippery for the umbrella to grab on to. She was plummeting, but luckily the snow bank was going to catch her fall. ...Okay, maybe not. She completely fell through it.]

[Moments later the child's head peeked out of the hole she had created - the bank was just about as tall as she was! But something was missing... She patted the top of her head. The hat was gone. Immediately she went back to digging in the snow to find it.]

[Unless of course, the wind managed to knock the purple top hat off during the fall. Perhaps in plain sight outside the snow pile.]

C - Wildcard, plus a day off to rest at temple.

[Had realized the mistake of jumping down a little too late, not that there was many other directions the kid could have gone. She was more relieved that the ayakashi did ignore her completely now. And for a moment, was focused on Hakkai's attack and how well he was faring against it. Entirely forgetting that she should've either kept running, or you know, hit the damn thing.]

[A shinki, yes! She had one of those! And fumbled slightly with the umbrella once Hakkai reminded her.] R-right!

[C'mon Kini, this was your time to shine~ The girl aimed the umbrella tip as though it was a pistol. She had done this kind of thing before - it was only with the help of a badge, but the process was more or less the same. Just had to wait until the ball of light at the end reached to a specific size. Til finally, a starry laser shot out.]

[Not a direct hit, but it did clip the ayakashi's side for some damage. And now it was upset and coming towards her.]

Ha ha, thank you! Good shot.

[More or less. It'd hit the ayakashi, at least, and the frog was now heading for the girl with a murderous glint in its bulging yellow eyes. Hakkai aimed another chi attack at its flank as it went, trying to convince it to turn around.]

I'll keep it distracted-- don't stop attacking.

[Another blast or two should make it go back towards Hakkai again, and give the girl another opening to fire. Holding the umbrella a little more firmly this time so that the kick won't mess her aim up again. And getting a much steadier beam, right into the frog's back.]

[The ayakashi shrieks, discordant and furious, as the girl's next attack hits it dead center. Hakkai keeps attacking, sending a steady barrage of crackling energy towards the ayakashi. His blows hit, but they leave no more damage than little seared spots or pits in its skin. Still, if he can convince it that he's the reason it's hurting, that should keep the girl free to attack.

It seems to be working. The frog leaps at him, howling its fury, and he throws himself into a roll to escape.]

[After enough Rends and normal attacks, the ayakashi had to be too weak by now to give Hakkai any more trouble, and slow enough for the kid in the hat to aim. This time she even let the beam charge for lot longer, thinking that Hakkai could handle it and it might end this a lot sooner. Plus, why not see how far this ability can be taken? More so when the opportunity was right there.]

[She waited until the charge was starting to become an unbearable light to fire it. Which...honestly probably was not as impressive as it sounds, given her stature, but it was definitely going to leave some world of hurt for the ayakashi. ...And hopefully not Hakkai too if he is accidentally caught in the middle of it.]

[Hakkai leaps back, hands up defensively, as the powerful beam impacts the ayakashi. It leaves his palms scorched, but the frog writhes, screeches, and evaporates in a spatter of foul matter.]

Ah-- nicely done!

But that last shot was a little close, wasn't it?

[Aha. That was kinda close, wasn't it?] ...That was an accident.

[But, the ayakashi was gone now, right?? So it all worked out. And the kid did not need to be so far away now. In fact, she walked even closer.]

[These things don't like, respawn or anything do they?]

Luckily, I think I'll survive!

[He produces a tissue, dabbing at bits of frog gunk on his hands as she approaches. It seems that there aren't any other ayakashi approaching.]

Ah, come to think of it-- did you ever find your lost item?

[He's sure he'd seen her asking about "something shiny" a week or so previously...]

[He guessed right. The kid's mood dropped a bit in disappointment.] ...Not quite yet.

[No sign, no trace, nothing. Only a little flicker of hope if he still remembered the post.] Have you seen anything?

No, I'm afraid I haven't. I'll keep an eye out, but at this point-- have you considered it might just not have come with you?

Most things don't, when we arrive here.

[He tosses his dirty tissue into a nearby burnable garbage can and turns his hands palm-up in a tiny shrug.]

But my ship's here.

[At least...it had to be. There was a few things wrong about it. Okay a lot of things. But who would've gone through the effort of making another one? And such a short amount of time?]

...And most of the other things with it.

[It's certainly possible that her ship had come with her; Hakkai's clothes had come with him, after all, and some of his other belongings. At home, in a drawer, he still has a gold credit card that's useless on several different levels.]

That doesn't always mean everything came with it. Is it completely the same ship that you remember?

[She could continue ignoring the blatant holes but she would only be lying to herself. But if she couldn't admit to having full assessment over the situation, then...]

...

Not quite the same.

And not just because those objects have gone missing?

[In other words: it could be a replica.]

...

[Yeah, she knows.]

But if I don't have those things, I can't get home.

They have to be here somewhere!

Ah.

[He folds his arms, thoughtfully, watching her.]

Have you considered that it's possible you won't be able to go home?

But if I can't go home, I can't see home.

Or anywhere else.

...I'll be here forever.

Ha ha, please, don't worry too much! I'm sure it won't be forever.

[They'll all disappear before too long. Hakkai's barely been here a year, and no one he knows has been around much longer than that.

He doesn't necessarily believe they'll go home... but they're going somewhere, at least.]

[Not sure if that makes it more or less reassuring.]

Has anyone else left before?

Oh, yes. I don't think any of us have been here longer than a year, and I've seen -- quite a few people vanish again.

[He looks up, letting his cheerful facade slip.]

None of us know where they go, although sometimes they return remembering things happening in their homes.
