Who: Goku and Nia
When: Super backdated to February 20th
Where: Near (shore), Far (shore), wherever you are
What: Meat buns and smooches. Possibly.

[Goku's never really been on a date.

Gojyo is, predictably, useless. Maybe Goku should have asked Hakkai for advice instead, except not even he's sure that would have panned out any better. Asking Hokuto is too embarrassing an option, Chikusa would make fun of him and Ken never answers his phone anyway. In the end, Goku's best option is probably just to wing it.]

Maybe Nia knows how all this's supposed ta work...

[For the time being, Goku's just sat by Huitzilopochtli's shrine to the Near Shore, wearing his usual clothes and staring up at the sky thoughtfully. Should he have dressed up? That sounds dumb, when they're just going out to lunch. What else do you need on dates? It's times like these that growing up in a Buddhist temple surrounded by monks really doesn't do Goku any favours. Two years spent on the Bachelor Road Trip to Hell doesn't help much either.]

Ugh, this is dumb! [Goku leans back and runs his hands through his hair in frustration.] It's just Nia!

[So romantic.]

[Nia's never really been on a date. And she doesn't have anyone to ask, either -- not that she ever thought about asking. Winging it is the first and only idea on her mind, although giving Goku food is a pretty sure way to his heart, isn't it? How hard could it be?]

[That's what she tells herself over and over on the walk their, trying to quell her anxiety and settle herself down. She won't live in fear any more, not even of this. She's made that promise once before, and now that she's remembered it, she's made it again.]

[Although she does have one idea: as she rounds the corner, a flash of light sweeps over her, leaving her long-haired, long-eared, long-sleeved form behind. Nia kind of thinks he likes this form best, even if she's sure if she asked he'd just say something like "Nia is Nia!" and say however she was is fine by him! And he'd mean it, too.]

Oi! Sorry to keep you waiting!

[ Goku jumps to his feet as soon as he hears Nia approaching, disturbing some nearby birds. When he sees her, he forgets his nerves and gets distracted by her long hair swinging as she walks. Nia always looks cute but...

Well, Goku may have a thing for long, shiny hair. He is but a simple monkey and cannot be blamed for that. Goku grins and waves at her. ]

Nah, don't worry! Hasn't been long or nothin'.

[That describes her hair pretty well indeed.]

[Okay, greeting isn't weird, no major awkwardness yet, so she relaxes a little and sticks her hand up to wave back as she heads over.] Eh, even so. This is a little weird, isn't it? But not in a bad way.

Uh, yeah. Pretty weird.

[ But now she's actually here in front of him, it's less weird. Now they're just hanging out; Goku knows how to do that. This is normal. Nia's his friend.

... She's also his date and it was implied earlier that they could do things he definitely doesn't normally do with his friends, but he'll worry about that later. Even if he's still a little pink. ]

You wanna get goin'?

[Yeah, that part is uh... something, isn't it?]

[But she knows how to answer him, at least. Even if it is just the tiniest bit shy, a sentiment rarely seen from Nia.]

It's food, isn't it? I better be ready, or else I'll lose track of you quick.

[So make sure that doesn't happen, she reaches out to grab his hand.]

[ Holding hands has never been a problem before and it's not now- but this time Goku turns bright red anyway. That's not going to stop him from gripping her hand back, but things are starting to make a little more sense in hindsight now. ]

Well, I wanted to go with you, so I'm not gonna ditch ya!

Oh, am I winning over food now? This IS a change!

[Nia... makes a noise as close to a giggle as she can manage. She's turning redder herself now, but keeping her grin in place. There's no reason to be embarrassed, going on a date with a guy! Right?]

[ If Goku were a completely different man, he could probably say something about how Nia looks tastier than a meat bun.

Luckily, he's not. ] ... We're still gonna eat though, right?

[ Nia might be winning but barely. Goku starts to walk towards the shrine, leading Nia along with him. ]

'Course we are. If I said you had to choose between food and me, this date would be over before it began, wouldn't it?

[Nia knows what she's getting into. No one can say otherwise. She matches her pace to his, finding it pretty easy. Practice makes perfect, after all.]

We going somewhere we've been or hunting down a new place?

Well, we'd starve if I picked you! Come on, you're hungry too.

[ Goku has his priorities in order, okay. He is a Provider. They hop through the shrine to reach the Near Shore fairly smoothly, ending up somewhere in Japan idk. ]

Uh... Oh, I saw this one place the other day and the food smelled super good and I was gonna go in but I was already eatin' yakitori. So I didn't. But I remember where it is!

[Let's go, let's go]

And that stopped you?

[This is... easy. This is simple. Bantering with Goku like nothing ever changed. She expected that, it's why dating him came to mind once she realized being around him was nice and she needed to move on (and she has something to move on from), but somehow that's surprising and rewarding and relieving all at once.]

Let's hit it up, then!

They said I couldn't go inside with it...

[ So that's what stopped him. Bantering is a natural state of being for Goku- if fighting for his life doesn't stop him, an awkward date won't either. He's glad things aren't too different though. He likes spending time with Nia like this- thinking she's really pretty shouldn't stop them from being friends. (He thinks all his friends are really pretty). ]

It's this way! [ Man, dates are easy, Gojyo must be really stupid to not understand them. ]

[Yeah, all the embarrassment's gone now. This just feels... nice, and a little right. She's definitely glad she decided to go down this path.]

All right, no need to dawdle, right? [In other words, he has permission to speed up. She'll keep up! And keep a hold of him too, the way her hand squeezes his just a little.]

[ Goku grins over his shoulder at Nia and squeezes her hand back. ]

You sure? Alright!

[ You asked for it, Nia- Goku's grin becomes a little mischievous and he starts to jog down the street, ducking between the crowds and pulling Nia along behind him. ]

Hey, you little -- [But Nia laughs as she picks up the pace, ducking through the crowd behind him when she has to and otherwise making a point of keeping up. She doesn't remember running clear around Alrest, but her body does, and she can match his paces even if she has to put in a little effort to do so.]

[ Goku picks up speed once it's clear Nia's ready to keep up and he won't yank her arm out of it's socket. Running through the crowds, ducking around that old lady, maybe knocking that businessman into the street, he's fine- ]

Hurry up! Wow, Nia, you're so slow!

[ Except then they reach the restaurant Goku is looking for- wow, it does smell good- and Goku skids to a halt without warning. ]

Just because I'm not barreling into anyone --!

[But he hits the brakes, and now she is barreling into him, grabbing for him with her free hand as she swings around front. Which means she's all but clinging to his shoulder as she leans into him.]

Hey!

Woah-

[ Holds an arm out to catch Nia, still grinning when she falls against him. That couldn't have worked out better if he planned it. Did he plan it? Probably not. Just look at that face. ]

Sorry. You okay?

Hmph. You're a tricky one. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on you for my own sake.

[She pushes herself off him to get her balance back, but the mischievous smile and spark in her eyes hint that she doesn't quite mind at all.]

What'd I do?

[ He is just an innocent monkey. Goku thinks he likes that look though- actually, it's occurring to him that he likes lots of Nia's looks. It also occurs to him, rather out of the blue, that if he was a bit taller his face wouldn't so often be close to hers.

That's probably a weird thought. Goku looks away with a blush. ]

Uh, so, food?

Hauling me around start and stop like that. [She moves back to his side, the better to elbow him. Be honest, she's actually -- really liking all this already. Somewhere along the like Goku'd managed to break through her natural tendency to avoid physical contact, and with him at least this hand-holding and rough-housing and closeness overall is... well, nice. Really nice.]

But yeah, food. Let's go. [Tug tug.]

If you'd kept up, it woulda been fine.

[ It's nice. It's all so nice. It's kind of weird, everything being so comfortable and nice with someone other than his usual group of friends- but Goku isn't about to question it. They head on inside and Goku even remembers to hold the door open for Nia. ]

Hey, what kind of filling is your favourite? I like pork best! But beef and chicken are real good too. Some of the veggie and bean ones are really delicious too! We had those at the temple sometimes. I think this place does lots of different ones!

[Aww, look at him trying to be a gentleman. That's honestly sweet of him, he's trying and all.]

Might shock you, but I prefer fish. If you can get that good in a bun.

[ It's truly a mystery where he picked that up from. Maybe Hakkai tried to teach him. Goku nods. ]

Like a cat. [Yes, Goku, well done. Like a cat.] I think that could work! Like tuna or somethin'. We should ask 'em!

Yes, Goku. Like a cat.

[Nia manages to hold her flat, judgmental expression for all of five seconds before the smile cracks through, then the laughter. Tug her along, Goku, she's busy holding onto her stomach with her free hand and chortling.]

Just don't go eatin' the birds around the treehouse, okay? Ayu's cats kept tryin' to do that too.

[Don't eat a hummingbird, Nia. Don't do it. Eat a meat bun instead. Goku's not in a rush to stop her from laughing, since it's kind of funny to see her acting like that. Instead he reaches out and tugs curiously on one of her ears.]

It's kinda weird you have these but don't have anythin' like a tail! ... Wait, do ya?

No, I don't. Don't tell me you haven't looked.

[Because honestly, even Goku's not that pure. Is he? There's no way he hasn't grabbed a peek at her bum at some point.]

I didn't look!

[ Judging by the red on his face, he's absolutely looked. Even Goku's not that pure. ]

Why not? Is my rear not good enough for you? [Sassily, she shifts over to bump one hip against his. She miiight be enjoying this position of relative power a bit too much.]

Niiiiaaaaaaaa!

[ He's being made fun of, Goku can tell. He blushes further and tries to avoid looking at anything in particular when Nia bumps into him- now she's just tempting him to look. ]

I'm not a pervert...

You know, if we're going to date... you're allowed to look a little. [She's really curious to see what reaction that will get out of him. Maybe steam'll come out of his ears!]
