Come ye and lend me thy counsel
Who: Iskandar, Symmetra, Waver, Caster, Archer, Zelda and whoever she would like to take with her
When: March 8 (letters) and March 10 (meeting)
Where: The Temple of Alexander and surroundings
What: Iskandar is very concerned about recent events. Especially the aftermath of the meeting with Amaterasu and everything that transpired there. He needs reasonable people to discuss it all with.
Warnings: Vivid descriptions of prospective violence, possible extreme shouting or cursing. Will update as necessary.
[In the middle of the night following the very eventful Amaterasu meeting both Caster and Zelda receive letters. Actual, physical, handwritten and signed by Iskandar.
He could have texted them both instead. But he didn't.]
[On the day of the meeting the all arriving would be greeted by Satya who would guide them to the garden behind the temple proper. There is space prepared in the garden with cushions and blankets placed near a great bonfire. There is also food for the hungry and drink for the thirsty. Food is simple because no one in Iskandar's Temple is Archer or even close. For the drink, it's mostly tea (herbal, green, fruity, choose your poison) or wine. There is some beer specially waiting for Caster.]
(OOC: I'm posting both starters/letters separately but we can either get them as separate threads or combine them. Or even make another one for the meeting proper. Also during the meeting everyone can mingle to their heart's content. Even if it's just to freak out about what the hell is going on. Or comment on food. Or why the hell are they outdoors and not inside.)

Only the very perceptive could have seen it being left by a slender man clad in ancient armour with a full helmet obscuring his face.]
To Zelda Metis, Princess of Hyrule from Alexander, son of Zeus, King of Macedonia, Pharaoh of Egypt, Lord of Asia.
Greetings, fair princess!
I hope my letter finds you in good health. I write to you to invite you for a meeting I'm organising in my temple on the evening of 10th of March for I greatly wish to hear your opinion about the state of current affairs in this land as you are a lady of much-acclaimed wisdom. Forgive me for giving you such short notice but I sincerely believe that time is of the essence.
Let it be known to you that I already invited Cu Chulainn and that both my shinki would also be in attendance.
Shall you decide to come know that I extend my invitation to any member of your household that you wish to take with you.
Alexander.

Greetings Cu Chulainn!
I would like to organise a meeting, on the evening of 10th of March, at my temple with the purpose of discussing the recent events. And their possible outcomes. Will you be able to come? Take Archer if you will. Don't reply, just come.
I also invited Zelda. We need all the reasonable people we can get now.
Iskandar
general discussion here
Friends, I asked you to come because I am gravely troubled by all that happened at the meeting that Queen of Heaven organised two days ago.
The reasons for my concern are many but I do believe them not to be entirely unfounded. They pertain to persecutions she plans to direct at the two rogue gods as well as other matters. As for rogue gods. I have no opinion on either. I wasn't even here when events connected to the girl unfolded but Princess [He bows slightly in Zelda's direction], Cu Chulainn [Caster gets a nod.] you were. I would rather rely on your judgement that on her word.
As for the boy I have difficulty believing he is that level of hostile as Amaterasu paints him in her words, sparse as they were. I have met him, talked with him. Yes, he was a spoiled brat but he didn't make an impression of being evil to me. He did blow up a mountain but also he is a child and children do stupid things as a part of them being children. Not always out of spite.
[It's true Iskandar was pissed off by that mountain. The thing trashed his garden, made them evacuate and cause him many a trouble. But he's trying to be rational here. If he had to execute every single child that acted stupid or defied him in his own country they would run out of children pretty quick.]
In all, I believe Queen's reaction to be exaggerated at the least. But you know more about the whole affair than I do. Do tell me if you think I am mistaken in my assessment.
Another reason for my discontent is the general atmosphere at the meeting. Many words were spoken. Some of them quite rash. Anyone could lose patience at the more gregarious statements. But to lash out the way Amaterasu did at Shun? That is inappropriate.
Granted the man has no manners. If it were me I might have had him executed for impertinence but I would not slander him without substantial proof. Nevertheless, he is a God of Fortune, she should take into account at least his station before accusing him of the worst crimes as she did. Still, tell me what you think?

[Zelda was... certainly surprised by the glowing praise offered in her invitation to this meeting, but now that she is here she is the perfect picture of a crown princess, back straight as she's seated upon a cushion near the fire and tone even as she speaks. Clearly an expectation has been set and she needs to live up to it, somehow.]
I have not met Votelli personally, but all accounts suggest both she and Sotero are being manipulated into enacting their "Sensei's" will against Heaven. As such, there are many among our number who wish to see them saved from that fate and from retribution from the Heavens for their transgressions. It is this fact, more than any other, that I feel will lead to disaster sooner rather than later.
... Whether Sensei succeeds in his plans to attack the Heavens once more will pale in relevance in comparison if Lady Amaterasu brings the majority of the new generation down upon her own head with an announcement that she intends to ride against these rogue child gods.
[She says this solemnly, with no small amount of regret. She sympathizes with Amaterasu, she really does, but sympathy alone cannot sway her to do something she fundamentally disagrees with.]
As for Shun... he is well aware that he is no diplomat, I can tell you that much. I, too, wished he had shown a little bit more restraint when speaking to Lady Amaterasu, but... one of the reasons I find him trustworthy is the fact that he is someone who will always ensure you know exactly what he believes in. Unfortunately, he just happens to not believe treating someone with courtesy based purely upon their position in society. In fact, I would imagine he would be quite put out by the notion that his rank as a God of Fortune should grant him any special level of respect in conversation.
[These silly modern kids and their democracy, am I right?]
But regardless, it is quite obvious that the Heavens are not accustomed to having their will challenged, and they have lost any sort of nuance in dealing with those who do stand against them directly. This is what I fear will inevitably come into conflict with the new generation's opinions on what justice truly is. Unless there is some way to get through to her, without leading to her simply digging her heels in further...
[Please, Zelda just got out of seven years of war, she doesn't want to go back--]

Basically that is tea at this moment. He's a menace in the kitchen but tea he is good at brewing (a skill both Waver and Zhuge Liang learned during their lives) and he has a special blend set aside should anyone develop a migraine - which is very possible in his case. He had no idea it's his Grandmother's recipe.]
He is very much a modern man, like many here. [An addition to Zelda's point. Waver figures the modern/ancient divide should be part of considering fallout and how any future interactions and events will go. Shun is just the most vocal of people whose values will be challenged.] My lady is correct. A clash between that and more ancient modes of thought and custom is inevitable, I'm afraid. Especially since few understand precisely what those values are and why they are that way, much less know how to navigate them.
[Democracy. The age is changing, friends. Waver is from Mage Society, which has older values, but he was born and raised in a democracy.]
... stasis is not really good in breeding flexibility to respond to challenges, either. Not just in matters of diplomacy. I am deeply concerned this may be a ploy, given the likelihood of a traitor - either to draw Heaven's forces or our attention away from protecting a point or objective, or an outright trap to wear down the power to respond properly to threats.
[Then he allows himself a small sigh as he continues on in an even tone.]
The problem is that building a relationship of trust... true trust, takes time and I'm not sure we have it. She's been burned before, I gather; she's young and rule is a heavy burden on even the most prepared; she's deeply reliant on and isolated by her counselors and shinki and dependent on what they've been telling her since she incarnated.
It's difficult getting past that kind of wall because you're fighting a voice in her head - an enemy that can't be slain by normal means. And worse, can be resurrected if she's given any reason to doubt.
So I have to ask, is there anyone she trusts that we can trust without question? [He's new, so he's not really firm on Amaterasu's court and who's in her inner circle] Otherwise we might have to seek alternatives.

Waver sums it up perfectly, and Archer notes diplomacy as another of his outstanding talents. That's good to know; he's well aware that his bluntness doesn't suit many situations where subtle approach works better.]
I think the one she's more likely to trust is lord Ebisu, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. He is also the only one of the old gods that interacts with the new generation without prejudice. Moreover, Kurosaki considers him trustworthy, and from what I understand, a god more willing to resolve the conflicts by peaceful means not always favored by Amaterasu and her court. [that's about as diplomatic as Archer gets, without telling what exactly does he think about the tiny goddess and her advisors.]
I'm more concerned with Heavens thinking the gods and not the human cultists are at fault here. From what I've gathered none of the kids displays the level of cunning needed to create and lead such organization without leaving any traces behind. There aren't many leads to follow, and so far all of cultists I've seen are of lowest rank.

And Caster is not sure if anyone will like the news he brings.
He almost look the same, almost, because he did resist the urge to stay somewhere on the side, with the hood hiding most of his face, and thus agency. The usual druid garb is adorned with a sword strapped to his belt, staff no-where to be seen.
At first, Caster just listens. He nods at the greeting and returns the base formalities, but he listens first. There might be a not-hidden snerk at the mention of Shun. True, that man has no manners, but the honest bluntness is something Caster can easily respect. This his serious mode, he might be visibly tired but he still can find something to be amused about. Obviously, he does not bat an eye at Iskandar's easy mention of execution, kings had heads falling for much, much less than being an honest douche in their face.
Zelda brings most of the points regarding the young gods' issues, but that also makes him realize- He is the only one here who had met Votelli before. Aside from Archer but his circumstances were different. He absolutely takes advantage of the Waver's lordly hospitality, because nothing better buys time in not-talking than sipping a tea. He quietly says his thanks and proceeds to do exactly that as he continues to listen.
BTW, sorry for giving you more of those weird magical vibes, fellow Caster.
When Archer brings Ebisu up, Caster nods- but his thoughts are elsewhere. Ebisu, Amaterasu. So many child gods, so many died and reincarnated. And all seem to be of similar age at that. But alas, he stands up, because of course, he does. It's a solemn gathering, and he got a knack for theatrics. Like a druid should. ]
Those children deities are faces for forces hiding behind them. I'm inclined to suspect only those in Ebisu's service are more on a benevolent side. [ Yes, he just did imply that as much as cult works in Votelli's shadow, Amaterasu might be just as much used by her advisors. Why doesn't she have an official regent? Why no one knows who is really in charge? His somber mood shows again in how blunt he gets ] Adults shouldn't go around making kids deal with their shit- nor cling to safety hiding behind them.
[ Cowards. They shouldn't but they do, and it is a reality he always accepted. ]
Looks like I'm the only one in here who had met Votelli. [ Now, it's a story time. Caster raises his voice just a tiny bit, his eyes sharp, as he observes the familiar and unfamiliar faces. Three temples. Three gods and their shinki. ]
I have to agree with Archer, my impression was also that the balance of power does not lie on the side of the godling. If I were to wager a guess- the sensei and perhaps part of the cult, might be her only followers, and since the faith is what anchors god's existence... [ He trails off, before continuing ] A god brought to life by a belief of a single human, is going to be incredibly dependant on that human.
[ That sounds kind of familiar, alas ]
I've met the girl... several times. [ Now, doing his best to not name names. Of course, Zelda will immediately know who is he talking about. Iskandar- Iskandar might suspect, but he won't know for sure. ] Someone who was once my shinki was much more involved with fate of that girl. I symphatise with the girl's plight, however my intention was to stay neutral and as uninvolved as I could.
[ Those are not his Heavens, better not to get into the business too much, right? The keyword is of course "was" ]
But I also wanted to help my shinki, so we skirted around, never crossing the rules. With no sign of hostility from her, there was no proof she was "the rogue god" and thus no need to report anything, and I never let her near my shrine. [ He's very unbashed in how he says that. But yes, he is a Knight of the Red Branch, he takes his honour very seriously- but Celts of his times had very different ideas what being a knight is than the shining examples of Camelot knights centuries later. Being overly literal with promises, and be careful what you wish for was totally a thing ] When I visited Erin- Ireland, I inquired Tuatha Dé Danann out of curiosity what would they do if a new godling came into existance and seeked shelter- they answer was that they would welcome her.
[ That's a shitton of talking he's doing today. It beings to tire him out, but this is what this meeting is for, isn't it? There is a certain weight in his words as he continues. Yes, this is absolutely going somewhere, and not one person here is going to like it. ]
My people, my kin, would not deny her her existance. [ He sighs. This part was important in the hindsight. ] The idea was to convey those news to Votelli and hopefully try to convince her to leave Japan.
[ And then the problem is solved. No rogue god, no military intervention from gods, no worries for Amaterasu. Cult could get just nicely kicked in the collective butt. Scatter them, neutralize or kill the most important ones. Probably mages, it's always the mages, you want them out of the picture as soon as possible. But hey, luck E club, nothing ever goes as planned. ]
I will keep it short. There is more to that story- but if I continue, you might not be able to keep your neutrality.
[ He can just go and leave. Legit. Not continuing behind that, not compromising anyone. ]

On one side we have this cult. If I understand Princess correctly, they are the cause of all recent and some of the older distress. Their motives are not exactly clear but they have enough means and ill will to orchestrate all the attacks that are attributed to the godlings. They also possess quite substantial knowledge of inner workings of Heaven. So they not only know and believe such a thing exists but also capable of using its own laws to their advantage.
The second side would be whoever is the power behind the throne of our kid Queen. The danger they pose lies in the direct influence on her. I had a chance to speak with Amaterasu and I did get an impression she is a very serious young lady but also very young. Unfortunately, that can lead her to take more rigid of a stance than she would were she really sure of her authority. And none of those lurking behind her help her gain that confidence. That is a direct threat in a situation where she is about to lead an army against an unknown enemy at an unknown time and location. Here I must agree with Waver that this awfully looks like a trap. This court is a nest of vipers and I wouldn't be surprised if Amaterasu is being led in that direction out of malice.
[Iskandar's opinion of the small queen actually improved after he had a chance to speak with her. She is very determined and he respects that. The worst part is that exactly that determination of hers might be her downfall. She's in dire need of better advisers.]
The third matter is general discontent among, let us call that way, our generation.
[Iskandar pauses. He is not happy with many things here. That's just the smallest. Still, it does grate on his nerves to be called a "new god". This miserable little country with its myriad of gods didn't even exist when he was declared divine by Oracle of Siwa! Who they think they are calling themselves old?! Fortunately for them, no one ever called him "new" or "young" to his face. Things could turn very bloody very quickly.]
As much as I agree with much of this discontent, I can't shake the impression there are forces for whom this exact discontent brewing and maybe even provoking the actual civil war may be very beneficial. I will not respond kindly to anyone who tries to use me as a tool in their machinations. That's is why I'm not more direct in voicing my opinions in public.
[He turns to Zelda.] I don't detest Shun for his bluntness, my lady. On the contrary, I respect both his courage and honesty. These are both admirable traits. He just could have timed his display better. As it went, he played into somebody's scheming hand perfectly.
All this leads me to my last question and part of a conclusion. The question being: is Amaterasu replaceable? Or maybe I should phrase it as: can somebody believe she is?
I can only think of a reason for destabilizing a country if one plans to overthrow its current ruler. We have enough people capable of proper governance in this room alone shall Amaterasu government fall. Yet I am sure none of us wants it. Still, somebody works very hard to show her rule in the worst light possible. There are simply too many coincidences for me to believe it's not intentional.
All three matters we just spoke of have this one thing in common.
Should the cult achieve its objective, the very fact Amaterasu is ignoring them and focusing and child gods is one sign. Should the Heavenly Host expedition fail either by getting slaughtered or simply by the misfortune of being too far away to protect the Heavens, that's a second sign. No country that wages a war on itself is ever stable, that's the third sign. All those show the current Queen of Heaven as an incompetent ruler.
As for staying neutral... Cu Chulainn, the involvement is upon us will we want it or not. We may all be forced to choose a side even if we don't want to. I don't think the Queen is in a place where she will believe any neutrality is even an option. Or her advisers will let her entertain such a thought. You're either with her and her expedition or you're more or less secretly abetting the enemy.
[Iskandar hasn't decided yet if he prefers to go with that doomed expedition to lend them aid in case they get overwhelmed or maybe try to prevent unnecessary bloodshed, or would he rather stay and defend the Heavens from whatever is going to come and try to take advantage of the Heavenly Host's absence.]
no subject
She deeply does not want to see her fall repeated with Amaterasu, but it's looking more and more like she will.]
... The goddess "Amaterasu" will continue to reincarnate so long as there are mortals who believe in her. By my understanding of how the divine works in this world, to destroy her completely would require the entire concept of her existence to be erased from mortal consciousness. That being said, there are reports of flyers declaring "Down with Amaterasu!" appearing around the time her temple was set on ablaze, and the cult's own stated goal is to replace the old gods with their own "kinder" ones. They certainly seem to believe she is replaceable, whether they are actually capable of it or not.
Though... their "Sensei" certainly seems to be a sorcerer of some skill...
[She's definitely not willing to underestimate "Sensei" after how her attempt to use her dreamwalking to investigate backfired. It's after this is said that she looks to Caster, concern weighing down her brow.]
... None would believe me regardless if I were to say I know nothing of your dealings. [FUCKING. TABLOID PAPARAZZI.] And I have already informed my shinki to be prepared to flee should it come to war. I will hear out the rest of your story.
[And if that sounds a little bit like a gentler, more professional way to phrase "what the hell did you do," well... that's not entirely inaccurate.]
no subject
But. That's tempered by cold rationality. The simple understanding that the ones running this cult must understand the consequences of if they fail, if they are caught. This runs too well for there to be any impulse to it.
Nothing comes from a void. There can be no rebellion if those before it are content. In the end, that monster of a girl had power, but so much less than she ever thought. People looked at the man - that lowly, worthless mage, who while fashioning masterpieces of magecraft and mages, had his existence considered destructive to the art itself - and looked at the girl and those like her, and chose sides. It was civil war. It was destruction of Grails - of corrupt systems.
Waver sees the girl and feels for her. But he does not see the totality of her, of what came before, through cycles and cycles. So he reserves judgement as well. There is much unclear. Perhaps if he knew it all, he would sympathize more with the traitors instead. So much is wrong with these Heavens. So much is wrong with all of this.
Right now all he can do is protect his. He has no memories, but his true nature is becoming clear. And make himself a cup of (Grandmother's) tea, because another thing is clear - he'll need its painkilling nature by the end of this.
(Hi fellow Caster! He does sense you and your particularly magical nature. Even in an area full of Servants - which is an intense experience of its own. How did he ever survive Chaldea? Question for the ages.)]
... a sorcerer who is well aware on how to work the laws present in making up this system of existence. Which means he knows where and how to break them and in ways we'll be hard pressed to anticipate until we discover how the system works.
And he most certainly isn't the only one.
[GROAN. Mages. This is coming from a mage and professional rule breaker himself... but... Iskandar knows precisely how much shit Waver had to put up with to reel the worst of it back. Waver has his suspicions about some of it, but he needs a bit more to put it forward. And he has to do so carefully, because all this is tied into what He Is Not Allowed To Understand.
(There are fucking days when he thinks being a shinki was done purposely to him)
So regardless of internal and external factors playing into this plot, they need to understand the backdrop if they are going to make any permanent headway against this cult. And that includes the magic at play.]
I believe that is all of us resolved. [He assumes Archer knows, but he'll make sure he has the opportunity to have his say regardless. Along with anyone else who hasn't piped up yet.] Personally, I think it's better to know and face what's coming, than think ignorance is any kind of shield. [His philosophy on many things... and yes, that too.] Please, go ahead.
no subject
It's a different matter when it comes to his own.
He may understand both sides and see their reasons as they are without considering them right or wrong. Human values get eroded by time, ideals fade or get shattered. No one is right and just, not even fate.]
If I may add something. From what I've heard, as well as from the lore, Amaterasu has three advisors - Suijin, Fuujin and Raijin, gods of respectively water, wind and thunder. Fuujin and Raijin are not on friendly terms. [Archer pauses with a frown.] It may as well be another's ploy meant to discredit those advisors, or take their place. While the gods themselves get continuously reincarnated as long as they are remembered and worshiped by humans, we can't forget their shinki.
As someone involved in investigating the cultists I can surely say that they use spells and ofuda passed down by their superiors, who otherwise have no direct contact with any of the lower tier. They also use only human means of communication, exploited by someone who clearly understands how to use several of these without leaving any trace behind. [that points to a human, unless the cult has created a god of modern communication. Alas, back to the topic.] The ofudas are clearly made by two people, judging by the handwriting. That means at least two mages present in their ranks.
That aside, it's clear our only hope to find those mages is to either follow the physical leads left by the cult, or ask the rogue gods who created them.
[Surprisingly those last words aren't tinted with sarcasm. Archer can clearly notice the irony of such statement, he's not blind to the implications. All of it can be discussed afterwards. Hopefully.
He glances at Caster, a silent nod meant as reassurance that he's got his back no matter what happens.]

Good luck with finding the volcano boy, Archer.
I trekked those mountains with Satya for a week or longer, it's difficult to tell time or distance there. I made maps. I would have found something or someone if there even were a person there to be found.
Yet we encountered not a living soul.
For all I know, the girl also vanished without a trace.
They're gone. There is no one to question.

Urrgh. Even so, not so pleasant. Thank fuck for the painkilling aspect of this tea. But the game face is on, because he'll be damned if his condition disrupts the meeting and makes things more volatile then they have to become. He can quietly pull Archer aside later to explain. There's no need for a fuss.
His attention slides to Iskandar... then to Caster...
His stomach suddenly, inexplicably drops.
... oh... I've got this sudden bad feeling...]
1/2
Momentarily he shuts down, thanks Archer for buying him time, and focuses on Zelda. She's not enjoying this conversation- is anybody here really? And what she says is unfortunately right, their relationship isn't exactly secret. But he thinks Heavens could believe her if she claimed truthfully she never knew anything and decided to publicly denounce him as a traitor. Feelings are feelings, politics are politics, friends not necessarily have to be your allies- he wouldn't hold it against her if she decided to choose the side of Heavens even if just for the safety of her people. He's been around kings and queens enough to know that sometimes you gotta put your personal feelings aside- would she actually do it, is, of course, a different matter. Still, he feels terrible for putting her in place to make that choice, and these thoughts- of guilt, of worry, but also of a warm concern might show on his face. Should she catches his glance, he'd stop biting on his lip and offer her a bit troubled smile
"What the hell did you do" Sorry, princess, you're not going to like it.
If she was his Master the burden of decision what to do with the Dagda's surprise gift would lie on her. If she was his Queen she would be the one to decide. He would be in that known, comfortable spot where he's just following directions. With that in mind, it does feel out of place to be on meeting lead by Kings and Queens and playing what, a druid to guide them? Nah-
They're gods here, all three of them, with the same kind of authority over their domains, and answering only to those they chose. He's not out of place, he's exactly on the same standing as them. Not too long ago a foreign goddess chastised him, rightfully so, for avoiding responsibility, for avoiding making decisions- Her words still ring in his head where the realization hits.
This is a council of gods, yes, but the shinki is no less important here. Their role as a moral compass is especially poignant now- the modern concept of heroism two of Caster's shinki (past and current) possess, noble concept of chivalry represented by third, in the end, swayed him from staying neutral. Influence of Zelda (and Hylia) and also Iskandar, makes him recognize it's a decision he made, and a responsibility he chose to bear.
He's not a second too late and follows the cue after Iskandar's question about the whereabouts of the godlings. ]
That's not exactly true, I know where one of them is.
2/2
He could have chosen differently, his other side, the cracked mirror knows that best. Be ruthless and cynical, don't get involved, and let all those Heavenly conflicts fly its course, even if it means dooming a scared child. Sure, he didn't want to be the one to undo Dagda's choice, but he could do it, he could choose what kind of loyalty is more important to him and it wouldn't be first nor last time when he did something he didn't like or want.
Accepting the fate and course of law is easy when you're just a mortal swept along the tides of events. It's easier than doing something against it, just going with the flow. But that changes when you're a god it seems.
So after the silence has rung through the room, and before anyone else could interject, he looks in the face of everyone gathered here- he lingers on Zelda again and his heart sinks a bit- is this where he disappoints her one last time, is this when this is really over? But he pushes that away and finally states. ]
I'm sheltering Votelli.
[ The decision was his, the responsibility is his. Time to own it. ...and try to live and survive through the repercussions of very first made Big Decision Ever. ]

not really, since all of them are tall.He focuses on reading other's faces and expressions, trying to gauge their reactions. It's not an easy news to share, as much as it's not a choice to make lightly. Caster needs all the support he can get, so Archer allows some of his feeling to seep through their link - pride at the decision made, his approval and ensurance that he's got his back. It may not be much.]
no subject
[Incredulous, the question escapes her before she can even think twice on it, her words as sharp and pointed as the knives she hides on her person. Whatever suspicions she had, whatever possibilities spun through her mind as Caster's gaze lingered on her while the others were speaking, they weren't enough to prepare her for the truth so succinctly stated.
She trembles. With anger, with indignation... with fear. Caster and Archer have both seen the princess upset like this before, long ago, and can likely recognize the tell-tale signs that belie her readiness to unleash on the god again. Idiot! Keeping quiet about Votelli's existence is one thing-- trying to get her away from her clearly manipulative "Sensei" is one thing...! But actively sheltering her? He knows what they'll do to him if they find out!
The storm that rages within her is clear as day to anyone in the room, but she doesn't give it voice. Not with Iskandar and Waver around. In a sudden jerk of a movement, she bows her head instead, staring down at the balled fists she keeps in her lap and refusing eye contact with anyone. Her stomach churns unpleasantly. She feels like she's going to be sick. She shouldn't have listened to him. She shouldn't have listened to any of them. She should have made herself an island, distant but protected, because now she's found another family that's going to be taken away from her all over again.
(Why is there this tiny sense of surprised satisfaction deep within her heart?)]
... What-- [Her throat is too dry to speak, she finds. She swallows before trying again, keeping her voice forcibly even.] --is your plan for when the Heavens find out? Do you even have one?
[Because they will find out. He doesn't know what it's like to be hunted by a power like this. He's too brash, too reckless. Somehow it'll get out, just like Votelli's name and appearance did, despite the whole argument that her existence spawned at her own "council" meeting. They'll find out, and Caster will be the next god declared "anathema" to the Heaven's authority.]

The princess is furious, yes. But she's upset even more. Iskandar doesn't have to look at her to know this. He still does but she has her head down staring at her fists. He can only suspect the kind of horrors that flash before her eyes right that very second.
He sees her pain as she barks her question. Yet as much as he would like to offer her comfort it is not his place to comment on it. This is between her and Cu Chulainn.
Iskandar already had made up his mind where he stands. It is most probably stupid, certainly not prudent and not exactly in his best interests but he would hate to see the Celtic god he grew to respect and like go down because those in charge of this land are blind and vindictive. He doesn't care for the girl much. Yet, he loathes the idea of her bearing the brunt of the consequences of actions and decisions that were never even her own.
In fact, he pities them both. Votelli and Amaterasu. Children enmeshed in the affairs of adults. The accused and the accuser. Both of those things make no sense to him at all.
His roaring laughter shakes the room like an explosion dispelling the heavy atmosphere for a brief moment. If only for the sheer shock factor of it happening under such dire circumstances.]
You Celts. [Iskandar says with a wide grin.]
You Celts. [He repeats staring straight at Cu Chulainn.]
Proud and brave people. All insane. All to the last man.
[Whatever reasons Cu Chulainn had it is a bold move. And as such, it demands an equally weighty response. There is a hint of crackling electricity, the sudden glow in his red eyes when Iskandar speaks again. Even his voice is changed, sounding deeper, more ancient. There is an echo of times they both knew. Times when gods truly walked the Earth and not as an unseen presence but true powers. Glorious and terrible in their splendour.]
Here I witness you, Servant Caster. Here I witness you, God Cu Chulainn. Know this that I am glad to be your ally.
[The glow is gone and Iskandar takes a deeper breath. That felt good. Whatever that was.]
But in all seriousness tell us what's your plan. Because I know you have one. You wouldn't have come here at all if you didn't have a course of action planned out.

There is nothing for it, though. It is a problem and one they are going to have to find their way out of to survive. Waver would prefer not to live in fear of the outcome. They already live in fear of far, far too much and everywhere he goes, he feels the stench of it. Sees it especially in the interactions he has, the carefulness, the censoring. All the things unsaid and that no one is aware he's hearing.
He already lives with far too much anxiety of his own.
It is not the way people should live. And make no mistake, he does not see shinki or gods here, even though they are just so, but people, placed on an equal board. There is no illusion of divinity - all shatters under his gaze. Cu Chulainn coming to grips with a decision that could cost everything; Zelda agonizing over consequences and potential loss; Archer protective and watchful, as Waver is watchful. Iskandar. People all. Human without being human all. Feeling, fallible, interconnected.
So Waver sits and watches. Quiet, filled with steel resolve. His role is not to serve as moral compass - everyone has theirs already. There are things required of a true guide that shinki do not have. Life experience and access to it - the ability to not only differentiate what's wrong or not, but why in all its nuance and the ability to compare situations. To already be formed - shinki are so malleable with no memories and so easily shaped with their gods able to feel their strong emotions. Independence. The ability to lead and command. That what makes a teacher. Otherwise humanity is a warped reflection in the mirror of god.
No, Waver's job is to bear witness. Waver's job is to contribute to solving a problem. Waver's job is to make stubborn people actually work together if the situation demands. Waver's job is everyone else's job, and though he is not in charge of it, he bears the weight of it equally with the people around him.
He will define what he is and what his role in things is himself, thank you very much.
So when Iskandar calls Cu Chulainn a Servant, and Waver realizes the presence of Heroic Spirits in the meeting, and is able to now identify each and everyone of the people he sensed as one, the answer that he draws of himself is just that.
I am myself and the rest doesn't matter.
It is utterly true and it breaks no rules, and in its own way it breaks every rule. Shinki are barred the past, but they aren't barred their true selves. He dismisses the mention because he knows a deeper truth, can hear its music from his soul without even searching.
And his dual soul is vibrating now with Iskandar's words. The parts of him that are not him but absolutely him at the same time. The parts of him that have temples and shrines dedicated to him throughout China, the parts of him nearly as old as Iskandar himself - it looks out in a glance towards the god himself, ancient and weighted. Just a moment. Then gone.
But consider the mirror and why it's called god. The true power of divinity is to see oneself truly. That isn't the past - it is thy truth. Thy self.
Then Waver props his chin in his hand as he looks at Caster. Cào nǐ zǔ zōng shí bā dài, cultist assholes and whoever's in league with them. Time for a plan or seventeen.
Go ahead Caster, Waver's listening. Tell us what you intend and he'll help make something workable out of it.]

Then the booming laughter from Iskandar the- what was that, what did just happen-- as if some sort of energy ran through the room. Caster doesn't have time to analyze or wonder about it. Other times he could maybe recognize it as a god's power, divine inspiration- Insane people, that is not wrong, every one of them was crazy by today's standards. Still, the declaration of alliance eases his worry a bit. Just a bit, but- ]
Yes, I do have one. Two even- [ OKay they are possibilities of a plan, some are just suggestions. But Iskandar is right, he wouldn't come forward with this if there wasn't at least something he could present. ]
When I was in Ireland I inquired with the gods of Tír na nÓg, what would they do about such newly born godling. They extended their hospitality to her and they would keep their word. Said she would be welcome to stay, as long as she behaved herself properly. I suppose getting admitted to the pantheon officially requires a bit more than just a nice smile and gifts but hey, that's a start.
[ Sadly, it is partially a dead end too, so he just sighs before continuing ]
She's not too keen on moving so far away, obviously. I was hoping to sway her in that direction, but I suppose I'm out of time on that front.
[ He's still having an unsaid option of taking her there forcefully, but hey, that's sort of last resort ]
If anything, my temple grounds also counts as the land of a Celtic god. [ He says with a bit forced smirk. That's arguing laws with laws of different lands. A risky move, but still something he considers. The argument to carry enough force would have to be made public.
Damn, the worst is that he actually likes Ammy too. If this could be solved silently before she become aware of the identity of the rogue god that would be best! And that's of course what would not happen, because no matter where, his luck haunts him. ]
But there is also another way, other option. With help of some other people symphathetic to the girl's plight, shrines to a her but under a different name were made. Close to forests, to orchards, calm places where children play and she can be of help. She likes to dwell there much more than in the lonely forest "Sensei" kept her in.
Maybe there is no future for Votelli, the dreaded god-child of the cult. Yet- maybe there still is one for Torimoto, godling of apple trees and lost children toys.
[ That's right, back into name bullshit once again. How... fitting... ]
If taking shelter in my homeland doesn't work out, I suppose the only way for that to happen- the cult needs to be dissolved, Sensei killed and Votelli reported as slain.
[ Reported is the hardest part. Do dead gods leave bodies? Would Amaterasu believe a word of a new god? That's already risky, and Caster is not sure if he could pull it off. Obscuring the truth, directing the conclusions somewhere else, that's one thing. Stating a lie, claiming succeeding in something that didn't happen-- huh. He haven't told this train of thought to no one, not even Archer.
Of course, there is a way around it, it's all in the careful choice of words- ]
Perhaps then, when everything calms down, Torimoto can live in peace. [ The following words he adds mostly to himself and his stupid addiction ] --oh damn, I need a smoke, right now-- [ So he starts rummaging his pockets in search of the glorious dose of nicotine, before continuing the one unanswered question ] Should Heaven's find out before that- I've argued laws before- the sacred hospitality of my kin, the separate but identical ruling of the representative leader of my pantheon here. He was also a patron of the druids, so that's a double- besides there is the most important: the name.
[ There is also something how he warded off a significant portion of his forest and what used to be Dagda's land, but that can wait- this tag is already monstrously big enough, and I feel bad for not being able to answer to each of yours properly. Sumanai for the exposition. ]

Zelda's pained outburst comes as no surprise; he's had a moment of similar panic when Caster told him of the inheritance. In different time and different circumstances he would offer sympathy. Now it merely steels his resolve to have Caster, as well as all of his, come out of it alive no matter the cost.
Iskandar is not much different than his god; ancient with divine blood in his veins, and a warrior first and foremost. It is godly luck that the king's declaration draws all the attention, a luck that no one else does have. Archer stiffens, not daring to look away. A moment later, when he still can see Waver from the corner of his eyes, is he able to relax and focus on his god's plans. That was close.]
I spoke with Amaterasu after her announcements. [he breaks the silence after Caster's words.] I still had some question regarding reincarnated gods and their memories as well as knowledge. While I can't say that I managed to sway Amaterasu's belief that those kids are behind the cult, at least she now sees the reason to keep them alive rather than killing at sight. She may be more willing to see the reason if anyone presents her a tangible proof of humans behind the cult, or a person that made all the ofuda. Preferably alive and able to answer questions.
[So no wiping out the cult, at least not right now. Later it may be necessary, once the investigation proves which of them is dangerous and needs to be taken care of.]
With the leaders gone the cultists will find a different god and a different hobby. A god truly dies when humans no longer believe, and with cult gone their gods are gone too.

She scoffs.]
You are a thrice-damned fool, you know that?
[Despite the cutting quality of her words, her voice warbles a bit, betraying the upset she feels underneath her criticism. Her eyes shine with tears she refuses to let fall as she finally looks back up.]
Do you honestly believe they will spend a moment arguing of pedantics and hospitality with you when you have done the one thing they have told us repeatedly not to do since the disaster at the Moon Festival? Do you really think they will care at all about the relative status of various members of other pantheons when all behavior they have shown thus far towards us suggests they think of us as nothing more than self-important foreign upstarts determined to disturb their status-quo?
[Perhaps the tone of these questions is unbecoming for a crown princess. Perhaps this will lose her some of the inexplicable respect Iskandar (and by extension, Waver) has for her. But she's mad and she's scared and she used to be so good at keeping her emotions tightly under wraps, but this place has made her soft. These people have made her soft. And she can't hold it in anymore.]
And how do either of you intend to find the leaders of the cult in order to kill them or bring them before Lady Amaterasu? As I have not heard tell of anyone able to trace "Sensei" in all the months we have been investigating his organization, let alone find him in person. [Her eyes narrow slightly here, glaring at Caster.] And I do not suppose Votelli has been willing to give up anything she knows about him to you, either, despite your generous offer of your hospitality. Can you really trust that she is not using you to further his ends, so long as she refuses to disavow him completely?
[She may just be a pawn in her Sensei's game, but that doesn't make her totally innocent, either. Unless all connections between them are completely severed, the possibility that she's merely being puppeted along by his strings remains.]

Someone he cares for is in pain, and he is the main cause of it. But at the same time, there is no turning back now. If that was caused by anyone else he would be furious for her too- He tenses, anger at circumstances flaring up but also, with nowhere to vent. There is that intertwined with empathy - he wishes he could bring better news, answers to calm the storm - and frustration. ]
Yes, I am a fool! This is foolishness of my choice! [ There is a slight, just slight, underline on the "mine" part. He is not good at this "making decisions" things, there was always someone to give orders and directions, and gods know, he misses that kind of stability. But it's gone, unable to truly return, and after months he can't just drift any longer. ] When I inherited Dagda's land with guest dwelling in it, I had only two choices. Either give her in, or not.
[ Even if he just kicked her out, he would still have to let her use his shrine. And if this ever came up somehow, it would mean he had rogue god in his grasp and he let her go, violating what was requested of them anyway. This is only snap he allows himself, he adds quieter, more wearily ]
I've seen children slain because I was unable to take an action- [ Kids trying to be soldiers, in a war where all adults were laid useless. He was the only one to take up arms- until he couldn't and succumbed to the wounds and was useless just as rest of the warriors. It might not be truly his fault, and his recovery still lasted only three days, thanks to Lugh's magic. But these three days were enough. It's not that he blames himself, kids die in wars just like people of all ages.
But that memory might have played a role when he had to make that choice. The fact that he knew this kid could be another one.
Anyway. Plans. Long-term plans. This is something he is not good with and he knows it, which is like- shit. This is what Zelda needs right now. How do you make a long-term plan when there is so many variables though? He's just making it up as he goes, but there is a direction where to go and that's a lot more than anytime else. A method in the madness ]
You speak nothing but truth and your concerns are spot-on, Zelda, princess of Hyrule, [ No mention of goddess Metis. They are all speaking here as themselves. ] Make no mistake. This is not pure sentimentality guiding me. Should the girl betray me, should she prove herself an enemy, I will kill her personally.
[ His voice grows cold with that promise, and there is something in it that shows he truly is capable of that. It's gone in a moment, replaced by the more calm way he stated the state of things earlier. ]
I will let Archer answer the question about the cult in a moment. As for her connection to the sensei, she is not in contact with him and is not going to seek it on her own. I have not asked her to disavow him completely, because- she's a child. Scared and unsure. And it's not like I'm that good with children. [ He sighs and rolls his eyes ] As for Sensei, she doesn't know that much of him. It was him visiting the forest, at times that were most convenient for him, and only when he felt like it. She believes that until she started to act as Torimoto, he was her only follower, which is what made her reliant on him. Sensei instilled a wariness of Heavens in her and prohibited her from talking to anyone else but him.
[ Which might work if you lavish the kid with attention and love, but if you leave them to fend alone in the forest, the curiosity and rebellious nature might win! ]
There is another option I haven't told about yet. I am the wielder of the ancient runes, Scáthach had taught me each and every one of them. As for possibilities of this magic- [ Caster gives a crooked smile. Here it comes, being a Caster has its uses. ] -it depends on the creativity of the writer. I haven't used it, but there is a spell to erase someone's memory. I could seal or entirely erase "Votelli" [ Leaving only Torimoto. An extreme case of renaming. A myriad of gods is born and fade every day, what proof is there that she is THE rogue god? ]
And speaking of runes- I've warded off the big chunk of my forest. For anyone outside of it, it will be seen unremarkable and uninteresting. Kind of like regular humans forgets about our presence the moment we stop talking to them. Why? To keep trespassers from bothering the wolves. I don't want to deal with someone upsetting them and ending injured.
[ At least he got the whole hiding thing properly worked on. ]
One of my shrines leads to an unlikely place, far away from here. Should you need a place of retreat to go there and destroy the shrine, it will close the path. The castle is in ruins but if its owner shows before you, tell her that I am the one who told you to go there.
[ It would make it easier if this was his Scáthach, but hey. If she’s pissed on him later, he can take the asskicking. ]

There is a way to find whoever is supplying cultists with rituals and ofuda. [he says with surprising calm for someone whose partner just made a risky choice.] All of the ofudas are made of the same, handmade paper. Since the production of such paper is usually a family secret, paper from different sources differs. Moreover, each manufacturer has to record each transaction, including name and address of the buyer. I can analyze the paper to make sure both the ofuda and the sample is identical. Once we find the source we find the location of the ofuda maker.
Then comes the other part - the stakeout. Gathering both the footage from the nearby security cameras as well as recording our own, checking if there are any spells set there. [here Archer glances at Caster, then at Waver. Yes, he means you two.] Every person living there has to be checked thoroughly. Perhaps Votelli can recognize someone on the photos.
Now the last part, which is the final proof. Sending human followers of one of the gods to hand out the questionnaire in the whole neighborhood. Teenagers always take odd jobs, so it won't be very surprising, and they get paid once they bring all the filled out papers back.
That's all, in the broadest strokes.

[Waver interjects with regal dignity and command while maintaining a tone of utter respect for the stations of those before him. What the hell is it with this place? Everything pretty much he's been put through so far has demanded he command on his own right. Everything pretty much so far has demanded he take charge. The results of that have been interesting, but still...]
Regardless of what plans we make and how well we construct them, there's going to be a good chance they're going to blow up in our face. There's many unknown factors and those are going to bring consequences, whether we want them or not, no matter how we mitigate the risks.
We don't have a choice with those. They're going to come no matter what we do or not do. They would come even if this situation did not exist in the first place.
That, unfortunately, my lords and ladies, is the reality of the overarching situation we are in. Even if this is resolved satisfactorily, that will still be true.
[He's going to pause here to let that sink in. Wait until every eye is on him. He's not going to call anyone out or look at anyone specifically. He speaks to the room, and if his demeanor is not that of a shinki... well, that's no lie.
He is not his form. He is his true self. The past doesn't matter. The now does.]
The only thing we can control is how we approach this and the challenges this and other things bring. We each bear that responsibility, in charge of things or not. We each will shape this outcome equally.
It will be difficult. Each of us will face things that challenge us greatly. I do not deny that it might be very painful.
But the only way we overcome this is together.
[... he so didn't ask for this. Please don't make him go gray, people.
A graceful bow of his head.]
Forgive the interruption, please. Let's continue and work this out.
no subject
And yet it happened.
Whatever they do or don't do, one thing is certain: they all remain foreigners. As such they are suspicious by very merit of being outsiders. There's a short road from that to Heavens rushing to all manner of conclusions. None of them particularly favourable. He's already seen it in action. It could have happened even if they were completely innocent. What they do is irrelevant. Unless they bow to the throne and accept orders blindly their actions and motivations will be called into question.
He can hope that any of the plans Caster devised would work out and they will be able to avert the worst. But that's that. Hope. Not a sound strategy.]
So it seems we've got our work cut out for us. Sooner or later the Heavens will find out. They would consider us all implicated no matter our part in this whole mess.
None of us, present here, can exactly fend off on our own. For that, we need a common plan. An exit strategy should the things turn hostile.
The sooner we start preparing for that outcome the better. Though I believe Heavens would have to deal with many more dissenters, should the situation deteriorate as I think it would, so they won't be able to descend on us with full force. At least not initially. That could give us time but I wouldn't count on it much.
[He pauses. Now that's where that probable civil war could prove beneficial.]
For one, we could all benefit from having a place we can retreat when in need. A few would be even better. Somewhere sufficiently remote from here so it would take significant time for Heavens to figure out where the hell did we vanish.
I have less faith than Cu Chulainn in successfully arguing that my Temple is actually part of Macedonia and not of this land. Though I pity anybody who would try to enter my grounds with ill intent.
I wouldn't leave the cult investigation either. With good resource management, we can pull all of this simultaneously. At least that's what I'm proposing.

Tonight's going to be a night for Sheik to take to the rooftops of Tokyo, she thinks. All this anxious energy needs to go somewhere.]
... Tell her she needs to cut her hair. Preferably dye it as well. And get her clothes that will hide her frame - bulky coats, long dresses, and the like. The Heavens do not know exactly what she looks like; that's her only saving grace. If some of Lady Amaterasu's shinki spot a young blonde girl somewhere, they will not have any reason to look twice, as they are looking for one with long dark hair. That may buy us a little more time.
[She offers, grumpily, but she sounds like she very much knows what she's talking about here.
Because she doesn't necessarily disagree with the fundamentals of what Caster's doing, really. She doesn't trust Votelli as far as she could proably throw her, but that doesn't mean she believes the girl deserves to be hunted down and killed for being a puppet. There's just a selfish part of her that wishes it didn't have to be Caster who's doing it.
Goddess damned heroes, every time.]
As I said, I have already told my shinki to be prepared to flee if war comes to Heaven. This world is large, and if nothing else, the Heavens' inability to track down these two children in a timely manner does not speak well to their ability to track anyone who has a vague idea of what they are doing.
[It would hurt, to leave the first thing she's been able to call "home" since that tragic day seven years ago. But she could do it. She's done it before.]
Ideally, of course, we would be able to convince Lady Amaterasu of the cult's true masterminds before that becomes necessary. That being said, I do not see what a questionnaire will do for us. Our targets will lie, and those self same teenagers that will do anything for a bit of pocket change may also decide to fill out those forms themselves in order to quickly earn their pay. I do not think we should get any of our followers mixed up in this business, lest they fall under the cult's sway as well.
[mrgrgr SHE'S STILL SULKY ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING but it doesn't look like she's ready to erupt anymore.]
no subject
Especially now.
His eyes wander to Waver for a moment. A brief one, almost unnoticeable...]
Our targets would lie only if they would have reason to be suspicious. I say it would be a waste not to try.
[He pauses for a moment. Somewhere there, in his room stands a trophy. A small, bronze statue with a golden plaque bearing a date and a title: "1st prize National Championship HoH". The trophy is accompanied by a framed picture showing a mixed group of young people, all smiles, holding the very trophy. Iskandar and Satya are also on this picture. The same picture hangs in one gamers cafe in Akihabara that happens to be his shrine.
Iskandar knows they would do anything for him. As he would for them.]
I also know some that would not be swayed so easily and who would never lie to me. Though I would not like to put them at risk if the reward was not substantial.
no subject
But that's for later. Archer listens quietly as others voice their concerns and corrections to his plan. Iskandar is right in his assessment of the possible war, and finding escape routes. Knowing that if worst comes to worst he's to stay behind to buy Caster and Votelli enough time to escape, and that will leave them without a modern guide is less worrying now. Princess gives a good idea how to hide Votelli in plain sight. Her distress is a clear proof how much she cares for Caster.
Now it's his turn to address some of the concerns, and explain some details of his plans.]
The questionnaire is crucial in gathering handwriting samples. [Oi, Waver, help him you modern guy.] Comparing it with spell charms, or rather photos of several charms, gives us the means to identify someone as one of the two cult sorcerers.
Now, to the other issue. I'm afraid that my words were misunderstood, for I mean that no one from our targets will consider it odd when they see teenagers hand out questionnaires.
There are at least several Cú Chulainn followers that are trustworthy and can help with the task.
no subject
Like that might happen anyway, but surely enough, they don’t need an audience for that.
So he sits down on his place, pulls the hood over his head, a gesture without thinking. Mitigate the risk, he’d tried to do that? Have no choice? Depends how you define “choice”, but that’s last thing Caster would want to argue with right now. A thought that maybe he should have kept everything a secret does cross his mind but he waves it off. Too late now, no sense dwelling on it.
Then it’s Iskandar who takes the lead because of course, he does. There is still time indeed, he should visit the other island more. Maybe make a good hiding spot, with necessary supplies and resources. Yes he could do that, make a shed, find a shed. If it’s deep enough in the forest, far away from people, the ayakashi are much less of a problem. That much he noticed in his travels.
He nods when Zelda speaks, noting down everything mentally. Dye hair, change clothes- that must hit… way too close home for her. Could he avoid bringing painful memories if he never said anything? How much longer could he keep that a secret though? What if she would notice herself what’s going on? Secrets, huh. Truth can hurt, but the lack of trust is much worse kind of pain.
So now they are in a different kind of hurt.
He is not really entirely sold on using followers either, but since Archer needs a mortal agent there’s a question how much they can do without one- God can possess a human being that trust them completely, but Caster is not sure how well it sits with him. It makes sense from the pragmatic point, and even if he couldn’t use his runes, runestones are not restricted to those magically inclined. Still, in the end, any hurt happened will go to the human, and the idea of forcing a soul out of the body is kinda… ehh. ]
There are many people of the new generation looking into the cult. We know more about them a lot more than we did before. I plan to look for magic signatures they might not be able to hide.
Lady Amaterasu can be reasoned with. If Archer convinced her to not kill these kids on sight, if a proof that humans are masterminds can be brought to her personally, I’m sure she will consider it.
[ Be polite, be well mannered, respect her position. Fortunately no one here is someone who would shout at her, right? ]
Proving the cult a mastermind, and proving child to being just their puppet, that is cutting off the strings, is the most ideal option. But if not possible, getting rid of the human cultists is just as good. Heaven’s will be on guard for a rogue godling for sometime after that, but if nothing ever comes again, they will forget about that. I will convince her to take on a different look.
[ There is one more thing ]
As a last thing, is it really "our" responsibility? I find it only mine. I am grateful for your counsel, advice and help you give. But you don’t have to bear what is not yours.
[ Is he giving them green light to throw him under the bus if the worst was to come? Yeah. They’re friends, companions- more than in some cases- but that does not necessarily means they are allies. It’s an old outlook on life but how many knights of different kingdoms befriended each other and later had to meet on battlefield? Goes other way too, just because we fought against each other on the same battlefield, doesn’t mean we can’t share a drink and laugh in times of peace ]
Besides if the worst was to come, I will need allies here, rather than on the other side of the war, right?
[ Caster can do the on the run. He wants no fucking revolution, no war in Heaven’s-- especially not a civil one. But above all he doesn’t want see his lover or friends taking a blame for HIS mistake. It might be impossible, they might all end on the run. But it doesn’t have to be that way, and he’d rather have them know that he is absolutely okay with them staying. ]
no subject
I don't usurp what is not mine. [Usually. Unless he wants to. Not the case here.] You can keep your responsibility if that's so important to you. The girl is your problem I get it. But you, even with Archer's help, are not going to be able to pull this stunt alone.
Either way, you'll need more people on this than just you two. Unless, of course, you uncovered a secret how to be in several places at once. In that case, I would argue no more.
And if by any means, whatever happens, the Heavens decide they're not pleased who I associate with, I think I'm capable of taking care of myself and mine. So stop being difficult and let us help you.
[Wouldn't you guess for a ruthless tyrant he was somehow he's not very fond of revolutions either. Hotheaded people make terrible rulers. Personal experience. But he would take any reckless imbecile over the rule of the mob. And that's what all revolutions usually end with.]
Once the cult problem is dealt with at least some of the tensions would go as well. Maybe then it would be possible to reason with Amaterasu and her court on other matters as well. They're not evil just stubborn.

A morbid part of his brain notes that this is quite similar to how he died the first time, stuck between conflicting promises, having to break one of them, and getting weakened by it enough so his enemies could successfully ambush him and Laeg. Are geis active for a Servant or god? Surely he's in no hurry to check it out.
Either way, if that's the fate that is about to repeat, what happens happens- as long as he doesn't drag others for the ride damnit. ]
Fine. [ This come a bit snappy- oops. ] I believe we speak the same, King of Conquerors, just with different words used.
