January Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: March 24th, 2017
Where: Outside the Meeting Hall, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are brought into small one-on-one meeting rooms as they appear, with a white-robed shinki offering them an explanation of their current role (God or Shinki), the name of the god they will represent (Gods) or the god they will serve (Shinki), and directions to the temple that will be their new home, regardless of role. During these initial meetings for Gods, paper and pens are provided as an unsubtle suggestion to take notes on the information they're given. For Shinki, there are stacks of informational pamphlets sitting out on a table inside the room, and which new shinki are offered as they are leaving the Meeting Hall.

Gods and Shinki alike are cordially invited to a training session beginning in early afternoon - several hours later - after they've had the chance to return to their homes, meet their new partners, and have their questions answered.

This time, it is implied that the Training Session will have a different purpose, so it is highly encouraged for ALL new gods and shinki to attend, no matter how long they have been in the Far Shore.

Divine Service

New gods are assigned a time to meet with an attendant in white robes with a chrysanthemum on their robes bearing a notepad. Gods can request a changed time slot, but they are not given an option to avoid the appointment entirely. Unless they are bullied into allowing multiple gods in one interview session, they insist on one god per time slot. All meetings take place in private rooms similar to those for New God and New Shinki meetings.

The interview consists of questioning the God's commitment to serving the needs of their followers, the Far Shore, and in turn Amaterasu herself. There is the matter of "A God's Actions Are Always Just" and The Gods' Greatest Secret as well, to see if the God believes these are true and important. Do they espouse these opinions to other Gods? Will they respond to a summons by Amaterasu to defend The Far Shore? (If prodded, the attendant will admit that they are in fact an Old God, despite wearing clothing similar to Amaterasu's shinki. They will claim it an honor to do a favor for Amaterasu during her preparations.)

The second round of questions are about their shinki. What vessel forms do they take, in order starting with Exemplar? How do you use them in combat? What sort of opponents have you faced with your shinki in vessel form - human, ayakashi, or other? Do you have any plans to personally train your shinki for battle ahead? For wielders of multiple shinki, when was the last time you used all of them working together?

They insist that all questions are answered. Afterwards, the God is dismissed.

(An OOC breakdown for you characters IC answers to the God Interview...)

Tempering the Vessel

Shinki are assigned time slots to meet with the white-robed shinki as well. While their sessions are shorter, the conversations are similar, and likewise held in private meeting rooms.

What is your vessel form? How many battles have you been in while in vessel form and what were your opponents? Do you have any opponents you would resist fighting alongside your God and fellow temple shinki? What have you done to increase your resilience while in vessel form? If you have other shinki at your temple, how often have you fought alongside them in vessel form? What spells do you know? Do you have any plans to further that training?

The shinki are then dismissed after all questions are answered.

(An OOC breakdown for you characters IC answers to the Shinki Interview...)

Shinki Training

A well-appointed dojo has been prepared for newcomers to practice their physical or magical arts. There are five or six white-robed shinki present, who will willingly answer any questions or instruct newcomers in the use of the borderline. They accompany their answers, or their lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods.

Inside the dojo, there's room for several pairs to spar, and weapons are set up all along one wall, everything from polearms to rifles, chakrams to broadswords. They're all meant for practice, with edges dulled or padded to avoid any accidental deaths, but sparring partners will still have to be careful to avoid injury. Although there are many fewer white-robed shinki here than usual, except for the children, there is one adult shinki keeping an eye on things inside the dojo and one keeping an eye on things in the yard. They are willing to answer questions, help with borderlines or teach shinki new spells on request. Comment to the NPC REQUEST form to request a thread with one of them or if you have questions about handwaving an interaction. (Shinki characters who are interested in learning more about the borderlines or want to learn new shinki spells or songs may approach any of the training shinki for advice or instruction. Please remember to comment on the Shinki Spells page when your character begins to learn a new spell, excluding the borderline.)

Physical Training

While each month the Far Shore attendants try to adapt the physical training to the Near Shore's weather and holidays, the weather is fair and any festive impulses have been subdued. This time, Physical Training encourages pitting a God with one or all of their Shinki against another God with one or all of their Shinki. This is touted as a benefit to the Shinki, so the white-robed shinki make clear that certain Shinki need this training more than others. For example, the ones who answered their Interview questions saying they hadn't spent much time in their vessel form, or fought in many battles, or hadn't fought with their fellow Shinki much - if at all.

There are Old Gods (NPCs - not run by a mod) who can be targeted as opponents, allowing the temple residents to gel as one fighting unit. (OOC: So that your multi-person thread can be limited to as few players as possible, if you choose.)

Rest and Refreshments

Gods and shinki who are finished with their training can step into a large room in the Meeting Hall that has been set up with comfortable cushions and low tables. Moreso than other Training Sessions, there is a wide array of international alcoholic options this time. If you've heard of it and you can get drunk by imbibing it, it's probably here in a bottle or glass. Guests can help themselves, settle in, chat, and make new friends.

The Old Gods in particular will begin to regale the crowd at the end of the afternoon with War Stories from the ages past, speaking of their great deeds they performed as prayers for their followers, miracles to convert the unbelieving, powerful ayakashi they fought, and other amazing feats, especially if they involved a shinki at their side - who it was and the form they took. After many Old Gods have spoken, they turn to the New Gods as if in challenge to tell better stories, mocking words exchanged that imply the New Gods could not possibly have done anything so impressive in their short time in the Far Shore.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Veteran new gods and shinki are welcome to volunteer showing the ropes
  • Practice sparring or shinki magic
  • Answer Interview Questions
  • Tell the truth - if you dare - or lie through your teeth... if you dare
  • Tell War Stories
  • Have fun~

[Quick on the uptake and grateful for the help, Yaone smiles.]

No, I do not mind at all. Please come with me and we can find it together.

[She stresses the last word ever so slightly with a meaningful glance toward Mustache, a silent warning to the old god that Yaone will not be alone should he decide to further insist on her company. Whether or not she and her rescuer part ways after this moment, it's important that Mustache not understand just how vulnerable she is in this place.]

I believe that I came in this way....

[Yaone points vaguely toward the Meeting Hall's main entrance and sets out in that direction. Once they've walked away enough to be out of Mustache's earshot, she softly murmurs:]

Thank you, mister.

Zhao Yunlan, and it's my pleasure.

[He's sticking by her side, a half-step behind as he searches his pockets for lollipops and comes up with two. One lemon, one watermelon; he offers her the latter.

(It's not his favorite flavor.)

The other, he unwraps and lodges in his cheek, talking easily around it.]

So, what did that jackass back there want, anyway?
medicinemaster: (smile; softening)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-01-18 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Yaone takes the lollipop from him. It'd be rude to refuse after he'd helped her out, after all. She answers as she unwraps it.]

I am not sure. He did not seem to be looking for information like the others. Perhaps he looked only for an audience to intimidate or impress.

[The underlying flatness in her voice says all that needs to be said about how successful that was.]

It is difficult to say for certain without further investigation. By the way, I am Yaone. It is nice to meet you.

[Yaone pops the lollipop in her mouth, sucking on it slowly. It's simply how she eats candy and not intended to be enticing in any sort of way.]
wildguardian: (ha ha fuck you)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-01-22 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[He snorts.] Even in Heaven, there's still old guys who want to boast about the shit they did when they were relevant.

[And -- just for fun, and because he's maybe feeling a little challenged by that classic Sexy Lollipop Eating Pose she's employing -- he slips his lollipop into his own mouth, maintaining an innocent expression as he hollows his cheeks. That done, he pulls it back out of his mouth with a wet pop, and chases a bit of sugar across his lower lip with his tongue.

First one to blink loses, Yaone.]

So, god or shinki?
medicinemaster: (smile; happy to be useful)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-01-22 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay then, Yunlan.

Yaone really hadn't intended to start any sort of contest, rivalry, game of chicken, or whatever this but she's not one to back down either even if she should. Especially when she should.

She pulls out the lollipop, delicately swirling her tongue along the sides of it before giving it a solid lick and putting it back in her mouth.]

They told me that I am a goddess.

[Yaone echoes Yunlan's expression with an innocent smile of her own.]

I believe I am to be called He Xiangu.

[All right: he likes her. She might not've been doing it on purpose at first -- he isn't sure -- but she definitely is now, and a delicate-looking goddess with elf ears who's willing to play along with his inappropriate lollipop innuendo?

That's his kind of lady.]

Lucky you! [He pauses to match her lollipop antics with a roll of the candy over his tongue, before tucking it into his cheek to continue.]

I think we've got another of the Immortals kicking around among the new gods -- me, though, I'm just a shinki.
medicinemaster: (amused; laughter)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-02 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yaone's willing to play along with a number of things thanks to the energetic charge she looks after back home. Her ideas on fun can be suprisingly wide-ranging and unusual at time. What he says piques about the Immortals piques her curiosity, though.]

Is that so? Can you tell me more about them?

[She'll take any potential allies she can find in this situation. Another long, teasing lick to the side of her lollipop. It's a good flavor. She likes it.]

I would think a shinki would be just as important as a god in their own way if I am understanding matters correctly.

[It's entirely possible she isn't.]

[He rolls his lollipop thoughtfully in his cheek, willing to be distracted from the game (although, he admits, she's a challenge: this could get them both thrown out if he draws it out too much longer. Good thing they're leaving anyway.)]

Him. I haven't met the guy yet-- Li Tieguai? But he's one of our newest big shots. Apparently the more influential gods around here are the Gods of Fortune; Ebisu's the only one who actually bothers to talk to us newcomers, though I heard Bishamon used to be around more before I got here myself. The rest of 'em are busy, but two newcomers scored the title already.

The other one's an Egyptian god. Nekhbet. [He smirks at her, and adds:] He's got the biggest stick up his ass I ever saw, but his information's good if you can stay on his good side. Basically, don't be friendly, he'll like you better. I can't speak to the size of Li Tieguai's stick, but I'd be careful around him if I were you.

[He hasn't met the man, but he's watched the network -- and apart from a few businesslike postings, there'd been that videotaped murder confession. Zhao Yunlan's just as happy staying carefully away from that guy himself, influence or no influence.]
medicinemaster: (thoughtful; on second thought)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-14 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yaone's content to put aside their little game, too, for the moment in favor of information exchange. The more information she has, the better off she'll be. She listens intently to his words, just letting the lollipop sit in her mouth for now.

'Don't be friendly'? That's strange advice but Yaone's met some people who seem to respond better to colder, harsher approaches. Personally, she doesn't understand it or really know any other way to be but it'll be a tip she'll keep in mind, regardless, if she ever meets this Nekhbet.

The other piece of information piques her interest a little more for now. This Li Tieguai fellow who appears to share her grouping, for lack of a better term, here in Heaven. Wouldn't that make them coworkers of a sort? If he's dangerous, perhaps it'd be best to press for more information.]

I will keep that in mind regarding Mister Nekhbet. Could you tell me more about this Li Tieguai? What makes you say he should be avoided?

[There's no judgment or doubt in her tone, just genuine curiosity and maybe a a faint tinge of worry.]
wildguardian: (uh huh then what)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-02-14 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently he's a mass murderer, though he says it's been a while-- his confession came with a sob story. [Yunlan's shrug is one-shouldered, unconvinced; he casually rolls the candy over his tongue to lodge it in his other cheek before continuing.]

It's still up on the forum if you want to check it out. It sounded like he was trying to talk people over to his side, if you ask me. So who knows what the other side sounds like?

Some people, shit happens in their life and they don't solve it with murder.
medicinemaster: (faceless; inner struggle)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-15 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the tip. I will look into this matter.

[Perhaps it would be wise to investigate this Li Tieguai's presence in Heaven if it is true that he has become a person of great influence here. Yaone knows firsthand the difference high status and strong social connections can make in a person's life. She will need to see this confession herself to begin to make conjectures on the possible motivations behind it. Even so, without full context...]

That sounds alarming. I do not know if I will be able to work peacefully alongside this man if he has carelessly killed so many.

[It's the kind of action that tends to prompt Yaone to betray her youkai allies back home and those who are slain usually aren't even her own people. But she does not know enough of the matter to be certain. She, herself, is willing to kill under specific circumstances when necessary and believes that certain individuals are simply too dangerous and commit acts so heinous they can't be allowed to live and harm others.]

Can you tell me more about this forum and how it operates?
wildguardian: (following close)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-02-15 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Careless didn't exactly sound right -- but, well, it's not like Zhao Yunlan is genuinely concerned the guy's going to snap and do it again anytime. Concerned enough to keep a safe distance, sure. Concerned enough to go too far with the warning-- not really.

He turns to the other question instead, pulling out his phone to navigate to the forum.]

Sure -- here. See this little icon? Tap on that on your phone, and it'll show you all the stuff people put up on the forum. New stuff first, but if you scroll down like this, all the old stuff's there eventually.

Tap on anything you want to see more of, and it'll show you what other people said about it, plus any videos or voice recordings.
medicinemaster: (reaffirmation; slight smile)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-15 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. I see. That looks easy enough. Thank you.

[It should make it easier to stay informed on rumors and current events, Yaone thinks. Of course, she still intends to go out and speak with people face-to-face, too, and gather information that way, too. However, the more sources she has available to her, the better off she and Dokugakuji will be. The acquisition of intelligence tends to fall within her domain.]

Have you noticed anything or anyone else of interest on the forum so far?

[This fellow seems sharp enough to have picked up on other things that might have stood out. Comparing notes and observations might be a worthwhile endeavor.]
wildguardian: (charming face)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-02-16 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Plenty. But I don't want to unload all my judgment before you've had a chance to see for yourself, miss! I'll let you take a look, and maybe we can compare notes in a bit.

[His grin flashes briefly at her.]

There's been plenty of talk about a cult, for one thing. Apparently they're going after the Heavens, which puts us in the crosshairs.
medicinemaster: (excitement; anticipation)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-16 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, the cult! Miss Irisviel told me about them.

[Yaone smiles, seemingly pleased with the conversation having landed on a topic that she knows a little bit about already.]

I had heard that they are responsible for the placement of cursed charms in the gods' shrines, yes? And they are led by someone named Sensei. The old gods do not seem keen on lending a helping hand on this matter.

[Yet they seem rather intent on drafting confused and vulnerable newcomers to assist them with their concerns. The hyprocrisy has left a sour impression on Yaone thus far.]

Besides descriptions of the charms themselves, I have not been able to gather much more information on this matter than that.

[Though Yaone's managed to gather any sort of intelligence at all when she hasn't been here a full day and spent a significant portion of it rather lost kind of speaks for itself.]
wildguardian: (following close)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-02-20 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
You're not doing so bad for a first day.

[He flashes her a casual grin in return.] Though who'd you hear the Sensei thing from? I didn't know that anybody had a lead on their boss yet.

[Although, of course, 'sensei' is just a title -- and not even necessarily one the guy'd earned. It's not much of a lead.]
medicinemaster: (looking inward; calm)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-20 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
All of my information came directly from Miss Irisviel. I do not know where she obtained it but I would assume that her god would know what she knew. I was under the impression that she learned things through rumors passed through the ranks of the new gods and shinki.

[Yaone hasn't been around long enough to tap into anything more on Sensei himself just yet but she'll make further inquiries soon enough once she's had time to settle in.]

But it would seem that he is the leader of this cult. I do not know how much investigation has been done into him, however. I would assume that someone has started looking into him in more depth. If I learn anything more, I will contact you.

[Yaone's line of work has always allowed her to move in a wide range of circles, given that people of all types tend to need medical treatment at some point or another. Unless gods and shinki are somehow immune to illness or injury, she doesn't see any reason for that to change.]
wildguardian: (following close)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-02-20 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Irisviel, huh. Haven't met her, but don't count too much on every shinki around here sharing all their shit with their god.

[His eyebrows quirk, and he spends a few quiet seconds occupied with his lollipop as he thinks.]

There are a few people looking into the shit, for sure. I'll do some of my own nosing around.

Starting with seeing who she heard all that from. Thanks.
medicinemaster: (reaffirmation; slight smile)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-02-23 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You are welcome.

[Not all shinki keep their gods informed? Yaone would have thought sharing information would have been a standard practice. As a vassal herself, she often reported matters of concern or interest to her own lord. Maybe she should put aside time to properly discuss goals and methods with her own shinki, just to make certain they are on the same page.]

Good luck with your efforts, mister.
wildguardian: (sprawl)

[personal profile] wildguardian 2019-03-17 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You too. [He raises a hand in a casual wave, and turns to go.]
medicinemaster: (smile; softening)

[personal profile] medicinemaster 2019-03-18 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Take care of yourself!

[Yaone waves back and watches him go.]
