Who: Yaone and you!
When: April 7th - 14th
Where: Various locations on The Far Shore
What: Yaone's making housecalls to the Temple of Li Tieguai and potentially meets people along the way. Also, just a general catch-all for February.
Warnings: Warnings for Hakkai's past in the linked network thread in one of the prompts but besides that, nothing particularly noteworthy.
A. Across the Far Shore - OTA
[It's been roughly two weeks since Yaone arrived on the Far Shore and most of that time has been preoccupied with treating a mysterious ailment afflicting youkai and rendering them comatose. The call to arms from Amaterasu and her agents had come and gone unanswered. The only authority Yaone recognizes and follows is that of Lord Kougaiji - and he is not here. Ultimately, she has decided that whatever war that erupts in this Heaven is not hers to fight. She will remain neutral, at least, for now, and focus on matters of concern to her and those she chooses to protect.
Right now, the people Yaone chooses to protect are her fellow youkai from her own world. Even if their memories are mismatched, even if under normal circumstances they would be trying to kill one another, this is not those circumstances. Here, they are both without their leaders and their respective goals are firmly out of reach. Without a prince to fight for or priest to steal a scripture from, there is simply no reason to fight that Yaone can see. It would be more prudent to put aside their differences and work together for survival in this place, in her mind.
And it's with that desire in mind, that Yaone keeps paying visits to Li Tieguai's temple in the Central District. Over the past couple of weeks, the youkai woman's been a familiar sight as she passes through on her trek from the west, medicine bag in hand. She smiles and waves politely to anyone she happens to see, regardless of whether they're strangers or people she met at training, new gods or old gods, or even look to be a sociable mood.]
Good day. It is lovely spring weather we are having, isn't it?
[By this point, Yaone knows the route well enough that she could easily teleport there but she could use the fresh air and exercise of simply walking there.]
B. Temple of Li Tieguai (Closed to Residents)
[What had initially begun as a simple repayment of kindness to a tentative friend had quickly snowballed into daily housecalls. After her initial examination and interview of the temple residents to gain a better understanding of Hakkai's condition prior to his collapse, Yaone had come over every day for about an hour to administer acupuncture treatments to the comatose youkai. Sometimes her visits ran longer as she holed up in his medicine room, compounding medicines and perusing Hakkai's collection of medical texts for any sort of cure. As fascinating and educational of a read as they'd been, nothing Yaone had tried seemed to be having a significant effect.
At least, until Hakkai had finally awakened.
However, now he was refusing to take her medical advice. The prolonged stay in bed had left Hakkai with weak muscles, however, and even while Yaone wouldn't force treatment on a someone capable of making their own decisions, however ill-advised they might be, she has a second patient to look after now and shinki to advise on the care of the first. For all of Hakkai's skill as a healer himself, he should be focusing on his own recovery and leave Goku's care to her.
To this end, Yaone can be found in the temple's medicine room preparing a second supply of the medication she'd prepared for Hakkai. During her time, she's allowed the residents to supervise her and done her best to answer any questions they might have about what she's doing. Some of the replies Yaone's given might not make much sense to those unfamiliar with traditional Chinese medicine practices but she's still done her best to explain things as clearly as she can.
She can also be found in Goku's room, checking his vitals and administering the same acupuncture treatments she'd given Hakkai in the hope that the young man will awaken sooner rather than later. When she's actually interacted with others here, Yaone's facade of polite professionalism has never wavered but at now that she thinks she has a moment alone, she's dropped it, revealing the weariness, concern, and strain she's been hiding underneath.
Feel free to interrupt her.]
C. The Park, Evening
[At the end of her rounds, Yaone stops by the park on her way home. She can be found sitting on a bench, her medical bag sitting beside her, scrolling through something on her phone. During the past two weeks, she's spent a good deal of time learning about the internet and while there's much she's yet to master, she's become fairly adept at using search engines in her quest for more information about the mystery illness that seems to be afflicting youkai in this world. She's also been slowly but steadily browsing the BBS backlog to try to gather more intelligence.
At the moment, Yaone's completely engrossed with her phone and oblivious to anyone who might be looking over her shoulder. From the playing audio, it appears she's watching a video confession from a certain new God of Fortune about his murderous past. However, the second Yaone realizes someone's observing, she abruptly stops the video and turns to greet them.
While her smile seems friendly enough, it doesn't quite match the forboding glint in her eyes as she cooly stares the person down.]
Can I help you with something?

[That Hakkai's been here for over a year is disheartening news. Keeping her promise to the prince isn't going to be easy, is it? Yaone had known that after she'd made it but she'd given Lord Kougaiji her word. She has an obligation to return to his side as quickly as possible. It seems like going home isn't going to be a simple matter at all, is it?
Yaone sighs.]
As for myself, I adapt quickly. Of course, it helps that there are familiar faces here. Dokugaku's only a phone call away, too.
[Those first few hours among total strangers had been frightening but she'd pulled through and had even managed to gather some information while she was at it.]
But I am still learning how to navigate the Heavens. I have yet to visit the Near Shore.
[From her tone though, she doesn't seem too pressed about the issue.]

Of course things can happen quickly... whether you're awake or not.
Do you have a shinki?
no subject
[That helps, too, honestly, simply having a shinki who is already acquainted with this place and the people here. His life has sounded rather tumultuous with his gods and their temples vanishing and the continuous chain of reassignments. Yaone might struggle more with a shinki completely devoid of memory and experience, she thinks. She feels she's been fortunate so far, even with losing Irisviel so quickly after meeting her and forming a fast friendship. At least, she has a beautiful wire sculpture of a bird to remember her by.]
It has made it easier to adjust. Resuming my work here has also helped.
[Which is another reason why she's not fighting Hakkai too hard on the issue of treating Goku in his current state. Perhaps it will help him, too, to do something familiar and routine. He hasn't made an error yet and his condition will only improve with activity so long as he doesn't strain himself too much. Maybe simply informing his shinki and checking in periodically would be enough.]
It is a familiar routine, after all. That has not changed, at least.

Yes, he has been here a while. [He's dividing the mixture neatly into balls. Goku can't be trusted not to choke on them, but they dissolve well in hot water, and he won't care about the taste before he's woken.
After he wakes, of course, he'll make up for that. The thought is a sharp, sudden ache: thinking of Goku awake and whining about bitter medicine is too brutal a contrast to the unconscious form upstairs, tucked into bed and seeming much smaller without his endless energy. His hands still before he continues, voice mild and distant.]
You should visit the Near Shore. Not just to learn about this world, but you'll want practice fighting ayakashi with Sakon. Sometimes, they'll even attack us here, or at official events.
no subject
[While she might not have much desire to involve herself in Heaven's conflicts, the task Yaone's been charged with regarding the mortals dependent on her position does draw her interest. Assisting the downtrodden and protecting innocents have always been important tasks to her.]
While I'm here, I want to help those that I can. If I can. I think that Sakon would like that, too.
[Whether or not he's as dedicated to He Xiangu's sphere of influence, Yaone gets the impression that he'd happy just to be able to properly fulfill his purpose as a shinki and she's certainly willing to accommodate that.]
I do not like to fight but if ayakashi must be slain and prayers must be answered, I will do both until a way home can be found.
no subject
I'm not sure any of us have found one so far.

There has to be a passage. Otherwise, we could not have arrived here. We cannot give up hope.
[Or maybe Yaone just isn't ready to give up hope just yet. She's aware that the circumstances don't look favorable for a quick reunion with Lord Kougaiji or Lady Lirin but she just can't quite bring herself to face that truth at the moment.]
It is a matter I intend to look into when I have time to do so but for the time being, the here and now is what is most important.
[Is that a roundabout, convoluted way of Yaone stating she's open to a truce or alliance with the Sanzo Party? Perhaps it is.]
no subject
[He shrugs, just as lightly as he'd faked a laugh, but his gaze doesn't blink or waver: it's fixed on her face with a cool intensity. His hands are briefly still, poised over the pills he's half done shaping.]
But as long as we're trapped here, our goals are the same.
no subject
Her gaze lowers to the pills he's making, just focusing on that briefly until the feeling abates enough for her to look up once more. And also to speak more directly, her expression hardening with determination.]
Yes, it would seem that way. Mister Sanzo or Lord Kougaiji are not present at this time. Neither is Lady Lirin. I see no reason for us to fight one another in this place. It would be a waste of resources needed in future conflicts that influence all of us. The Heavens appear to be preparing for war. I believe that an alliance would be in our mutual best interest and the wisest course of action under our present circumstances.
[Dokugakuji might not think the conflict in Heaven matters but as dear of a friend he is to her, they aren't always in perfect agreement no matter how united they might seem on the outside.]
no subject
-- so, yes, I agree.
[He sets down the last of the pills, and looks up at her with a faint quirk of his lips. He'd seen the desperation on her face for a moment; it exposes the bravado for what it is.
Who is he to discourage other people from trying to continue moving forward?]
Besides, it's not as if we could accomplish anything by fighting each other. Death isn't even necessarily permanent here, so there's no guarantee of eliminating an enemy even in the best case scenario.
[That is: the one where they really have been transported here bodily and have the potential to be transported home the same way, they're not dead, they're not wasting so much time here that even in the case of a return they'll find that everything's lost....
Perhaps he has been here too long, he reflects.]
no subject
Death being impermanent certainly does renders assassination pointless. Hadn't Dokugakuji mentioned something about dying and returning without any memories? Or did Yaone imagine that? Calculating that memory loss into a tactical plan could have some value but she really would prefer to avoid fighting if she doesn't have to.]
If I uncover any useful information, I will be certain that it gets to you.
[Of course, doing so may hasten the day they have to become enemies once more. One can never know for certain what the future will hold.]
I would like to discuss your experiences with this place further sometime if it would not trouble you to do so. I should let you finish here and get some rest.
[His knowledge of the medicine seems sound enough and he's referencing the recipe on hand. As long as he does not deviate from it, it should be fine, Yaone thinks.]
no subject
[He nods politely to her.]
Thank you, Yaone; I suspect I'll have quite a bit to share with you about my own observations here.
no subject
[Yaone's been the inquisitive sort ever since she was a small child, and that quality has not faded with adulthood. Her ongoing acquisition of rumors and information about current events and lore in their own world reflects that trait. Considering the length of time Hakkai has been here and the amount of status he appears to have acquired in that time, Yaone is certain he has quite a few stories to tell.]
Perhaps over tea sometime when you are properly back on your feet.
[Or during quiet interludes. Despite the initial friction, it has been nice to speak with him in less violent circumstances.]
