37B - Beach Episode: Electric Boogaloo

Summary: Orihime has persuaded the Heavens to grant the Far Shore denizens a reprieve. The people spoke and asked for a beach vacation!






The Far Shore has managed to rent out an entire private beach for the event so that they won't be interrupted by any Near Shore residents. The rented beach is beautiful and well-maintained, at Sand Island State Recreation area, not too far from a certain temple, overlooking the bay and Honolulu itself, depending on the side you're on. The party stretches to all the way around the island so that you can look out over the ocean waves as well.

It's a beautiful late spring day, perfect for swimming and cracking watermelons and playing some beach volleyball. There is a hut with snorkling gear (shallows only) and surfboards too! There's even some soft music permeating the air so that nothing is every silent on this fun-filled day.

You Need Only Ask Permission

Not knowing how to decide which of many beaches to suggest before Amaterasu, Orihime asked her dear friend Fuujin for advice, and of course he suggested the Daijingu Temple of Hawaii. (It's a temple dedicated to him, and one he visits fairly frequently.)

Getting down to Honolulu is treated like a simple affair by Orihime. She tells people that they only have to go to Fuujin's temple in the Far Shore, ask for permission to use it to travel to one of his temples on the Near Shore, and one of his shinki will grant permission on his behalf while he silently watches in the Far Shore. (A satisfied smug look on his face, mainly directed at the new gods, less so the shinki.) His Exemplar, Kaede, will smile and wave as she watches the parade of people exit on the other side in Honolulu, at the Daijingu Temple.

Of course, if you would prefer not to indulge Fuujin and you have another way to get to the party, you're welcome to do so!

Swimwear Strikes Again

Anyone who doesn't have swimwear will be provided with swimwear to fit their needs before leaving the Far Shore, courtesy of Lord Fuujin's memory of how well the Far Shore residents enjoyed their swimsuits last time. Unfortunately, the Heavens don't have access to a lot of swimwear, so you'll likely wind up with something ugly, something old, or something just plain weird.

Picture Perfect

How enchanting are the people posing for all those cute pictures? The Heavens would greatly appreciate proof that the event was a similar hit, so they've asked Orihime to bring back picture evidence of the festivities. Whether you post the picture to the BBS or not, can you get a cool shot while surfing? While eating your favorite treats? While building sand castles? Playing beach games? Possibly a series with a common theme? Make it a challenge with your friends! Maybe that perfect picture isn't something your friend wants to hand over... Feel free to go to great lengths to find that perfect picture.

Barbecue Bonus

This time, more than the basics have been provided, but anyone is welcome to bring a little something to the barbecue as well if they so choose. A wide assortment of fish, a fair bit of chicken, and some beef have all been provided by Orihime and transported by Fuujin's shinki, but it's clearly all been locally procured. So you're more than welcome to grab one of the many grills and start frying things up. Heck, there are even fishing poles available if you feel like hauling in a few fish to grill. Additionally, summery drinks have been provided, including iced tea, lemonade, water, and horribly fruity cocktails. By evening, small desserts on trays will also be brought over, including such Hawaiian specific treats (in bite-sized portions) as Passion Fruit Cheesecake with Toasted Macadamia Nuts, Chocolate haupia pie, and Poi mochi.

All of those activities aren't as fun alone! Whether you're preference is swimming, snorkling, or surfing; beach volleyball or sand castles; cracking watermelons or maybe even... games involving other kinds of spirits! Start things off and welcome others in!

[Sun, Surf, and Super Soakers]

Chris was all about a day at the beach, so when she heard that this was what everything was going to be instead of the usual training business, she met the situation with enthusiasm. Luckily, she'd even be able to find a swimsuit like the one she'd had back home.

But that wasn't the only thing she'd found.

Prior to arriving, she'd picked up a number of squirt guns. Not just the simple, plastic kind either. No, Chris took fire arms seriously, and had prepared for war. Twin, pistol-like squirt guns for quick firing. A normal "rifle" for rong-range strikes?. And her greatest weapon? The Monster XL, which she'd wield from a high up emplacement for heavy distant aquatic bombardment.

Who knows how Chris's attack will come? Perhaps she just springs out from nowhere and shoots you without warning before cackling and running off madly. Perhaps she's challenged you to a fight, even providing a "weapon" for you to use as well. Or maybe she's firing with the Monster XL from on high, dealing out aquatic justice like the goddess of war she is.

One thing is for sure. War has come to the beach.



[Barbecue Bonus]

Chris isn't sure about grilling herself, but she's more than happy to reap the benefits of other people's efforts. Especially when it comes to food. By the time she's done making her rounds, she's got grilled fish, chicken, and beef ribs, along with some grilled corn and vegetable kebabs. Dessert doesn't go unignored, either.



You can either find her wolfing all this down, with a fair bit of sauce smeared across her face, or relaxing in a chair after the meal afterwards, sunning herself. It's been a busy day, so now it's time to relax.

Laying on her stomach on a large beach towel, Ginia makes herself an easy target as she works on her tan. The straps of her halter top are untied and her hair is pulled forward, leaving her back and shoulders exposed.

There's also a purple spygoat rolling in a lopsided circle around her, rocking slightly when it gets stuck in the sand and bleating sadly.

Attack: Y/N?

Chris almost feels bad about this. She seems to want to relax, and she's clearly working on her tan. Chris would have to be a real heel to do something in this situation.

But also... Ginia was pretty on her game most of the time, and Chris knew she'd never have an opening like this again.

...

Yeah, she's going to do it.

Mercifully, she forgoes one of the heavier weapons, opening fire on Ginia with quick jets from her water pistols.

The spygoat bleats as it sees Chris advance. Its wheels spin a little faster as it tries to hurl itself in the path of the incoming water, but in the soft sand, it only manages to dig itself in deeper. Maa-ster, noooo!

The water splatters onto Ginia's back and she startles with all the grace of a cat disrupted from a nap, flailing upright. Her instincts are sharp as she slashes out a borderline in front of her for protection and sits upright. Before she can accidentally flash the beach, she ties the top of her swimsuit back up.

CHRIS. She glares at her god, but it's not that angry. Okay, it's a beach, this is what people do.

Yamanbagiri have taken to walking along the beach, admiring the view and occasionally checking out whatever he find in the sand.

While he did wear a swimming trunk for the occasion, he still stand out for wearing a cloak. He's just minding his own business.

... Until something wet hits him at the side of his hooded head.

"What the—?!"

He quickly turns around to look for the culprit. His hand is raise to wipe some water off his head.

"O-Oi!"

Chris makes a show of twirling both of her water pistols, before firing a few spurts at the guy's feet to "make him dance".

"Sorry about that guy, but this beach is now a war zone! You either gotta get out of the line of fire or fight back!"

With a scowl, he take a few steps backward and glares at her.

"Fight back with what? Do I look like I have a weapon like yours?"

He's a simple swordsman, not a (water) gunman! He could leave this be, but dammit, she shot water at him!

[ Several people had already been defeated by Chris, Elfnein was out in the open with no cover and only had two small cheap water pistols to defend herself. ]

Chris isn't this a bit unfair given your ability with guns?

[Chris crossed her arms.]

It's no place for a little kid with no resolve! You have resolve, don't you Elfnein?!

[ That being said she takes aim at Chris during her speech and tries to shot with the dinky water guns. ]

[ Hibiki and Chris last parted on somewhat ambivalent terms. So is Hibiki's first response to seeing Chris to apologize for her behavior? To acknowledge the similarities between them? To say she's taking what Chris said into consideration, as she crafts a new and brilliant future for herself? ]

Chris sighed dreamily as she stared up at the night sky. It was a beautiful clear night, where one could see all the stars and the moon shining brightly. It was almost romantic... if you cared about that sort of thing, Chris told herself. And she wasn't someone who cared about that sort of thing... right?

Right.

Nevertheless, there was someone she definitely wished she could be sharing this view with. She was, as of now, sitting on some rocks near the shore, leaning back on her arms with her legs crossed, listening to the waves rolling in and out and feeling... well. Lonely. And there was really only one person she felt like sharing a moment like this.

She let out a sigh, mostly at herself, as she took out her phone. Nevertheless, she ended up smiling (also to herself) as she pulled up Tsubasa's number, and sent her a message:

I'm out on the beach

Come sit with me???

It's been an interesting few weeks, to say the least. Tsubasa is ... super not sure what to make of their whole showdown at the cultist compound. She feels somewhat bolstered by the skill on display of those there, seeing even more than at the parade just how capable her fellow gods and their shinki are.

Yet, there are a few other things resting on her mind, here and there. Be it departed friends, or the status of her old ones. But she knows one of those has to be more prominent, and as she gets the text, that helps her zero in on her thought process.

Well, this is as good a time as any.

She arrives shortly, having changed to mostly normal clothes.

"You rang, Yukine?"

"Senpai...!"

Chris sits up with a start, beaming from ear to ear as she hears Tsubasa's voice. She instantly scoots over, patting a seat on the rock next to her for Tsubasa to sit down on.

"Have a seat! Come and look at this amazing view with me...!"

[ D2 would be doing some cooking as well, but at a later point. He's been off shopping for a while and now he's looking for some people, Chris included.

So in his bright shirt and garland he's coming over and crouches down by her chair, arms resting over his knees and a plastic bag with a lot of green contents in his hands. ]

[Chris looked up from her foodat the sound of D2's voice.]

Oh hey, of course! I've always got time for you, D2.

[ D2's develops a grin on his face. ]

That's good to hear. But I won't hold you up for long I just, [ wait a sec, just let him find the right thing in the bag- there- he holds out a bundle for her. ] Wanted to give you this.

[ If she were to open the wrapped bundle there, she'd notice it contains a lei of pink plumeria and white orchids, and a lei of kukui nuts with white sea turtles painted onto each brown nut, and that there is a leather string attached to a makau hook of bone in there as well. ]

[ At some point, Yoon turns around from tending the grills. He's wearing a modern beach outfit, but clearly not dressed for swimming. ]

AH! It's... you!

[ He's not sure how she'll react to him, that's why he's a little stunned right now, grill tongs in one hand and a plate of meat in the other. ]

[Chris looks up in the middle of chomping on some corn... and takes a while before she recognizes him.]

Ah... it's you? Huh, so we finally meet in person, huh?

You've got chocolate all over your face, young lady!

[Iskandar ducks under the grill to retrieve a pack of wet tissues from the shelf below. He hands them to Chris.]

Here. Take this.

[There are a couple more bananas, wrapped in foil and oozing chocolate through the cracks, grilling on the side but the central place on the grill is occupied by a large slab of meat currently in the process of being coated with a thick brown liquid. The things you can learn from YouTube... He's not Archer (obviously) but let none say he came unprepared.]

[Chris stares at the tissues... before scowling slightly and taking them, using them to clean off her face.]

Geez, fine. There's nothing wrong with making a bit of a mess when food is good, though...

[She is eyeing those chocolate bananas eagerly a bit, even through her annoyance, however...]

They're. Uhm. They're pretty good.

The last time Wendy was on the beach, it was kind of a confusing time. She knew she was dead, her god was an actual literal dog, her bathing suit had looked like utter garbage... Today, however, is the opposite of that, including down to the bathing suit. She's determined to have fun and figure out what it is that people actually do at beaches these days.

...Which means squirt gun battles are something entirely unfamiliar.

She's soaked almost laughably easy, standing there dripping with her eyes wide. But as the shock wears off... Slowly, she narrows her gaze over at Chris.

"So you think that was a smart idea, do you?"

Someone's life is going to get demolished.

Chris gulped, suddenly looking very concerned. There was definitely a dangerous energy coming off of Wendy right now.

"I... I guess?" she said nervously. "I-I mean... it's just a water gun..."
