April Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: May 8th 2017
Where: Outside the Meeting Hall, the Far Shore
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki

Gods and shinki arriving at heaven's meeting hall are, should they allow it, guided to the rear of the Meeting Hall, where a traditionally styled dojo and training ground have been made available for the day. The gods and shinki are free to take their time during this day to learn about the details of their new life from Amaterasu's shinki or from more experienced god and shinki volunteers.

Meeting Hall

God Training

Newly arrived gods are escorted into a small meeting room, with tatami floors and a stage at the front of the room where the speaker stands. A minor deity is giving the speech, and none of the white-robed shinki enter. Paper and pens are provided to all the attendees as an unsubtle suggestion to take notes on the information they're given. The speaker delivers her welcome speech in the monotone of someone who's practiced it far too often.

Once the speech is over, new gods are joined with the rest of the gods in a larger room, although it still has a raised stage and tatami mats. There are worried whispers that they might be given another questionnaire to fill out as was the case a month and a half ago, while others are wondering if this is an impromptu conclave to follow up on Suijin's findings on behalf of Amaterasu.

Well, after a few minutes, Fuujin arrives - with Kaede close behind him. "I hear you all plan on sticking around, so listen up." He crosses his arms and walks towards the front of the stage. "You want to prove we can trust you so much, you can pull your own weight. This whole time, we've been training you and your shinki. Time to show us what you've learned and just how much effort you're willing to put in off the battlefield. Kaede, explain." Fuujin steps back, and Kaede steps forward.

"What my Lord Fuujin means is that we will begin accepting volunteers for temples of the New Gods to host these training sessions. Training should continue to cater to the needs of God and Shinki alike. Prospective Hosts should contact me, Lord Fuujin, or one of the other Counselors Lady Suijin and Lord Raijin, if they are interested in opening up their temple, so that we might make recommendations based on your planned activities." Kaede bows to the crowd. "Lady Suijin and Our Lady Amaterasu also send their regards in this matter."

Although Fuujin harrumphs a little at that final remark, Kaede steps back. "Alright, that's it! Go on if you've got other business."

Shinki Training

There are stacks of informational pamphlets sitting out on tables around the dojo. There aren't very many of the white-robed shinki around, but the few who are present will willingly answer any questions or instruct newcomers in the use of the borderline. They accompany their answers, or their lessons, with an explanation of what is expected of a shinki and the importance of teamwork with other shinki and with gods. Shinki are encouraged to work together to practice what they've learned and discuss their perspectives. Each of the shinki is wearing a brightly-colored sticky name tag reading HELLO, MY NAME IS ________, and all of their names appear to end with the syllable "mei."

A variety of weapons are available in the dojo for shinki and their gods to practice with, and a row of straw targets are set up along one wall. Outside, in an area carefully roped off with red ribbons, are six animated training dummies, but they are damaged in a way that doesn't make them terribly useful as targets. A couple of shinki are trying to repair them on the fly without success, all by hand.

Physical Training

Amaterasu's shinki took the time to reassemble Bishamon's obstacle course on these grounds! Climb walls, crawl through mud, jump across randomly spaced stumps, find your way through a maze and collect one of each of five different-colored ribbons being handed out by shinki attendants for completing each section within the allotted time. Every so often, Amaterasu's shinki high-five each other for setting a good example for future training sessions and sound excited about being allowed to participate in trainings instead of managing them all the time.

There's another segment inside the hall though, away from the noisiness outside. There is a place set up to do low-strain stretching exercises called Rajio Taisou. Afterwards, this includes a duration exercise for practicing seiza sitting position. Those who succeed for at least 15 minutes are treated to an immaculately prepared hot drink of traditional green tea, or a similar sort of beverage upon request, then another at 30 minutes, and so forth. Don't worry, the drink cups are the traditional size - slightly smaller than a modern mug.

Rest and Refreshments

While the usual refreshments and snacks are available, for those who are still up for it, Amaterasu's shinki have one more session that everyone can participate in. They'd originally planned for it to be shinki songs only, but say they decided to make it more general singing practice. They'll sing a handful of kindergarten-age songs twice-through each as warm up, and then move on to some popular enka tunes as well. They have light koto accompaniment, a small piano, and a drum.

In Summary:
  • Get all the information you can handle
  • Discuss with your temple-mates if you'd like to volunteer to host training
  • Choose your style of physical training: high- or low-impact
  • Enjoy singing together
  • Have fun~

physical training

[As usual, the look on Chikusa's face is impossible to decipher while he's looking out towards the obstacle course and all the other heavy physical activities that are going on. (Well, impossible to anyone but Ken, probably, but that's the cheat of living alongside one another for all their lives.) When Kairi approaches him, he turns his head slowly to look at her.]

[His expression still doesn't change.]

I would rather die a third time.

[chikusa no]
pure_radiantics: (convo] huh... let me think about that.)

[ Listen, she does know Chikusa. ]

I was only joking, but-

A third time?

[ Apparently not that well.

Her tone is "a concern." ]
kokuyoyo: (And the cops are back.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2019-04-28 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Oh yeah, he hasn't told a lot of people about that, actually, has he? Chikusa slowly blinks at her.]

...Yeah.

[Gonna... Gonna explain that, Chikusa? No? Just gonna- okay then. Besides the bright red double pom pom beanie he's wearing- wholly inappropriate for the weather, frankly- he's also wearing a loose t-shirt, and he reaches up to lazily let one finger hang from the collar. It's just enough weight to pull it down to reveal the very edge of what is apparently a very large scar.]

[You know. One of two places where he got stabbed through by a giant spider leg.]
pure_radiantics: (convo] what are you saying...?)

[personal profile] pure_radiantics 2019-04-29 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Chikusa! Please?

[ One word answers would have worked on her in the past, or about less serious topics. Don't do this to her, man. ]
kokuyoyo: (I don't even know how to be here.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2019-04-29 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, this is getting far too awkward now. Chikusa's hand slips from his collar, allowing it to slowly rise back into place, and he shifts back just a tad.]

...I guess I didn't die exactly. [okay, that's a start-] I'm already dead.

[Goddammit Chikusa Kakimoto]

...I'm still here.
pure_radiantics: (convo] not again!)

[personal profile] pure_radiantics 2019-05-02 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing Nanako doesn't know, and I'm guessing Hakkai does but wouldn't tell me.

[ She crosses her arms because she has A Concern for this person she still wants to consider a friend. ]

... Do I need to ask Ken how you "didn't die exactly"? Maybe he'll tell me.
kokuyoyo: (Woke up with a squirrel in my bed.)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2019-05-02 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[...Now that he thinks about it, Chikusa has absolutely no idea if Nanako knows or not. He's... pretty sure he interacted her, in the days after he had died, but he can't for the afterlife of him remember the details of their interactions. The cats were there? Maybe? Or was that at some other point in that period...]

[All of that becomes unimportant, however, as Kairi's latest question almost seems to... wake Chikusa up from his usual sleepy fugue state. He shifts a little bit, spine actually becoming a microscopic amounts of straighter, and he blinks at her.]

[...That's dirty. Ken hates the fact that he's died like this, twice now that they can remember. Ken gets worked up about it. After a second, Chikusa slumps further again, and glances away. For those with hawk vision or superhuman empathy, it's possible to pick up on the slight way his mouth twists down... Or, more notably, how he reaches up to nudge his glasses needlessly up his nose.]

...Ablution went wrong.
pure_radiantics: (convo] worried nervous)

[personal profile] pure_radiantics 2019-05-06 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ He can think it dirty if he wants. To her, it's genuine concern for this person who refuses to treat her like a friend after all this time they've known each other. Sure, she knows how Chikusa is with everyone, and she bought that excuse for months. However, with the recent admission from Dust that he considered her a friend, it renewed her vested interest in the other person in that same bucket of "my friend but I'm not his" - Chikusa - the moment that she heard him utter the words about his second death.

She sees him debating. Technically that should be a good sign, but given their topic of conversation, she can't very well be happy even if she does here what happened. ]

Ablution...

[ Oh she's heartbroken. ]

And I couldn't help you.

[ Ablutions happen, she knows that, and there's no way to expect that she can be everywhere at once but... she's literally a phonecall away. She has access to a cloud with the speed of a jet. ]
kokuyoyo: (At which point did I decide that it)

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2019-05-06 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[It's a simple upfront answer, one that Chikusa doesn't hesitate to give.]

Me.. Ken... and Ginia. That was... the optimal configuration, as far as I could tell. I know my own strength... and Ken could connect. Ginia could be... our impartial judge. I thought with that much... things would be for the best.

...And Ken had to be there.

[It was Ayumu. Ken had to be there, because of how much he cared for her, even if it was his first ablution, even if his borderlines aren't as perfect as they might be. It had to be Ken.]

[After a moment, however, Chikusa's lips thin to match the way his eyes narrow so slightly, and his gaze slides away.]

...Even if you were there, it wouldn't... have been any use. That person... She's someone we should have just killed outright, instead of trying to help.
pure_radiantics: (convo] serious talk)

Stupid refresh lost me v1 of this tag, I'm so mad

[personal profile] pure_radiantics 2019-06-03 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's many thoughts that start to rise to the surface and under other circumstances she'd have kept them to herself, except that they're precisely what they've been discussing this whole time. ]

The way you're talking, I shouldn't have been at Hakkai's ablution, I shouldn't have bothered with Joy the Soulless shinki's ablution, I shouldn't even... fight any ayakashi - ever.

[ She lowers her head. ]

Chikusa... you died. And you're saying that if I'd been there, I still would have just let you die, instead of defending you, because... why? Because I'm a princess, a girl? What's the point of being a "pillar of the community" like Ginia calls me when it comes to shinki spells if people won't call on me in a time of need? If people keep leaving me behind... [ She blinks back tears. ] How can I help my friends?

kokuyoyo: (I don't even know how to be here.)

i was wondering what was up lmao

[personal profile] kokuyoyo 2019-06-09 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
...What?

[This is why Chikusa hates dealing with people, whether strangers or those would would label him as a friend. It feels as though he's suddenly been denied a good portion of the conversation, leaving him to wonder how they've gotten here. He shifts backwards a little bit, pondering for just a moment on if he should just... leave.]

[After all, it's not as if he has any confidence in his conversational skills to make this talk any better.]

[But he doesn't leave. Instead, he slightly narrows his eyes down at her.]

...I... don't see what your gender has to do with this... [After all, Ginia is a woman, as far as he can tell. If she's a princess isn't something he's bothered to ask about.] I don't understand anything you're saying...

[Wasn't he clear? Chikusa felt like he had to be. But he can't figure out how else she'd come to this conclusion, so he tries again.]

I told you... Ken was there. So.... you didn't have to be.
