May Training

Who: Everyone
What: Information and Training
When: May 23rd 2017
Where: Odin’s Temple
Summary: Training and informational sessions for newly arrived gods and shinki; bonding opportunities for all other gods and shinki

Gods and shinki who arrive at the meeting hall are, for once, not led to the back for an introduction to their new roles. They’re instead rounded up and shown the way to Odin’s Temple, where "Odin" is waiting for them. Hopefully the sight of a twenty-something in loose pants and a t-shirt isn’t too shocking compared to the formally dressed old gods.

Basic Information
Unlike previous introductions, Leo has all the newcomers meet in the front room. There’s chairs and a sofa and ottomans for anyone who wants to sit, and they’ve brought in a dais of sorts for Leo and Kairi to stand on.

"Welcome to Heaven, or the Far Shore as some of the older gods call it. I am Leo de Borel, formerly a prince of the Kingdom of Nohr and currently the god Odin. This is my shinki, Kairi. The old gods have asked me to host training this time, but before we do that, you should know what you’re getting into. Some of this information is not my own, but was gathered by my husband, Aymeric de Borel. Unfortunately he's currently down with a sleeping sickness and couldn't join us today."

Leo then launches into basic rundown of Heaven and how things work here--the gods answer prayers, the shinki assist them, ayakashi are the monsters they fight and are generally the main thing causing the people on the Near Shore grief, and a brief summary of the greatly diminished cult--and asks for the gods and the shinki to follow either him or Kairi, depending on which they are. He’ll help anyone who’s not sure which they are figure it out, and then he and Kairi take their groups outside where Leo has set up some training grounds.

God Information
As they head outside, Leo explains a god’s role a bit more in depth to any newcomers and will answer questions should anyone else ask them. Once they get outside and most of the important questions are answered, Leo hands out pamphlets he had made that summarize most of the important information shared today, with an emphasis on not telling a shinki about their past no matter what, and tells them that today is mostly going to be about them figuring out their powers and perhaps finding a shinki or two they work well with, should they not already have one. If they have any other questions, they’re welcome to come find him and ask.

Shinki Information
All of the shinki, no matter how recently they arrived, are treated to a parallel speech by Kairi, but it’s with a bit of passion focusing on god-shinki bonds and what they could be, which she hopes applies to brand new shinki as well as shinki who are only as "new" as she is. She cites a shinki’s ability to help their god/dess with prayers in more ways than as a vessel, for one thing, and that temple structures will vary with the gods themselves. Some become families, for instance - here she looks to both Raichi and D2 - and deep friendships that can last beyond any struggle you can imagine - she looks at Lance and Dust. She explains how there was a time when just being attached to the same pantheon as your god meant that another temple might help you, and some of the new gods may still feel that way. Her point remains that if there’s a specific sort of bond you’re looking for, that god might be out there waiting for them, and she encourages them to ask an older shinki for advice if they’re uncomfortable in their current temple setup. "No one will understand better than your fellow shinki," she insists with a smile.

Speech over, she offers pamphlets to those who might not have received one previously and directs any shinki still struggling with spellwork to where Leo has arranged for a few of Amateratsu’s shinki to teach them how to cast a borderline. More experienced shinki are welcome to assist, but once you think you’ve got it the shinki are welcome to join the gods in the training grounds. Kairi tells the newbies the same thing Leo told the gods: their main goal for today is to get in some practice and maybe find a god they work well with.

Physical Training and Pair Ups
It’s a simple set up this month, since Leo’s yard isn’t really built for this sort of thing, but the basic set up is what you’d expect; there’s dummies for more solo practice, a sparring circle for some one-on-one training, and food laid out for anyone who gets hungry. (And if anyone asks who did the cooking or otherwise thanks Leo, he will direct them to Yoon because he did all the cooking, except for the pizzas. Praise him.)

Once everyone is more or less at the training area, Leo asks everyone to hold a moment so he can explain one last thing.

“The Heavens have asked that my shinki and I do our best to pair unpartnered gods and shinki up, be they new or old, in hopes of making stronger, more lasting bonds. If you meet someone you think you might work well with in the long term, please let either Kairi or I know and we’ll make a note of it.”

And that’s the last you’ll hear from Leo officially, unless you have questions.

Battle Tactics
Or maybe not. For those of you with a partner or who are just interested in learning new techniques, Leo’s arranged for something a little unique this month.

Perhaps you and your partner aren’t really fighting optimally, no matter what you do, or are just getting outmatched by some of the more intelligent ayakashi and have to resort to brute forcing your way through them. Leo has offered to spar against those who want to work on their teamwork (with or without his own shinki) or otherwise observe a fight so he can offer advice afterwards on how you might improve your teamwork.

If you don’t have a partner or are just interested in something not physical (which Leo totally gets), Leo’s also set up a few things inside. There’s a couple of chess sets out (always a good option) as well as, oddly, a few video games. Leo found a game that allowed him to set up simulated large scale battles if you want to try your hand at that sort of thing, as well as games to encourage cooperation between a god and their shinki. This includes a game where up to four people are trying to run a restaurant and one game that has one person reading from a manual and the other trying to defuse a bomb.

    Have fun!

In Summary:

  • Be baffled by this millennial looking god
  • Attend the information meeting
  • Train
  • Eat, meet people, maybe find a partner
  • Play video games
  • Have fun~

[That was intended as diversion and Iskandar is glad Hibiki didn't fall for that. Yet, as he was planning to go with his initial plan another opportunity presented itself to him.
Something he did not notice before. A risky move but it would pay well if it worked. Not being one to ever shy from risks Iskandar follows along with his new plan.]

I always considered cavalry an important unit in any army.

[He obliterates one of tiny Hibikis, here representing a knight, that ventured a little too far.]

What do you think?
priforprince: (floof)

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-14 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. The sight of a knight charging into battle for his ideals will certainly uplift any heart.

[ She smirks. ] Revolution, however, requires sacrifice.

[ She’ll have him in check in one more move. Against this opponent, this first sally is likely doomed to failure....but she’s looking to make an impression.

As is her wont. ]
towards_okeanos: (bwahaha)

How the world is able to handle both of them at the same time and not implode on the spot? A mystery

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-06-16 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
Truer words haven't been spoken.

[Iskandar smiles. He noticed the attempt and is not even trying to counter it for now. He's curious how far Hibiki is willing to take this. She leaves herself a very thin margin for error and almost no way out but he can't deny that the move is bold. So was his. It's not that certain who would prevail in the end.

Needless to say, an impression has been made.]
priforprince: (sharp)

How do we know that it hasn’t? Perhaps they sit in a pocket primension for royals alone

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-17 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ He’s letting her do as she pleases? Is he, himself, up to something....?

Well, Hibiki won’t miss this opportunity. If it’s a trap, she shall spring it, then nimbly escape like a proper phantom thief should. ]
You seem on the verge of proving it yourself, in fact.

[ SATISFIED. PIECE. PLACEMENT. CLICK. ]

Check.
towards_okeanos: (bwahaha)

Now that you mention it, Iskandar has. Doubtful he'll use it, there's not tea there.

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-06-21 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[And she waltzed right into his trap.

How best to set up a trap if not with a king? Being king himself Iskandar knows this very well. Now, he puts his own plan in motion and a single piece in place. A piece that eliminates the offending tower that threatened him with check.]

Not anymore.

[He grins.]

Still, I must applaud the boldness of your action.
priforprince: (laala)

(1/2) Hibiki appreciates the restraint in the name of tea. This teastraint.

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-22 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Wha—

[ Somehow, even though Hibiki’s brain expected someone like Paraxander the Great to be up to the challenge, her ego needs a moment to let this sink in. ]
priforprince: (sharp)

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-22 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ But then she’s grinning. ]

Splendid......As expected of Europara’s conqueror.

I’ll hold nothing back.

[ ....Are her pieces clicking more dramatically when she moves them now? And do purple sparkles follow her fingertips?! Are there dramatic close-ups on the pieces while they play?!!?!

Hibiki is playing someone on her level, at long last. It’s a shoujo sports anime now. ]
towards_okeanos: (battle)

Dramatic camera angles! ACTION!

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-06-22 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
And here I thought you were treating this seriously from the beginning.

[Look, that fact that he knows nothing about shoujo anime, or shoujo sports anime in particular, doesn't mean he wouldn't make a perfect antagonist for one. He can certainly match Hibiki's style. Minus the pink ...err... purple sparkles.]

I know I do.

[Yet, for it to be The Ultimate Sports Anime of the Far Shore, and what else can it be when they're both involved, Hibiki needs to win.

UNLESS!

Unless it's a midseason episode and The Protagonist needs to suffer a crushing defeat for Major Character Development and to Make Her Resolve Even Stronger. yes, all the capital letter are vital for the message]
priforprince: (petals)

....is it funnier if she’s generating petals or if spygoats are firing confetti

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-22 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
For the truly talented, even perfection may be improved upon!

[ Hibiki tends to imagine herself more as the cool, invincible senpai rival character. Perhaps even the one from a school that is Best In The Nation. But the fact remains: she is a comedically-impossibly-talented cartoon teenager.

And Iskandar is Paraxander the Great.

This is truly a battle of clashing tropes, yet Hibiki refuses to falter. Surely...surely! All a genius imagines, they turn into reality....!

You can play around the purple rose petals that just flew up and settled on the board out of nowhere, right? ]
towards_okeanos: (ahem)

Go for the goats! let the goats contribute.

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-06-29 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Trying a distracting manoeuvre?

[It's not a great challenge for Iskandar to avoid the fields that are occupied by the falling petals. He has plenty of places to go to still be a real threat for all the Hibiki's pieces still left on the board.
A changing situation on the battlefield is nothing new to him. He has never lost a battle and he doesn't plan to allow this one to be an exception. Even if to a genius like Hibiki.]
priforprince: (hibiki-chan 1)

they’re so haa-ppy to be a part of this

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-06-30 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hibiki swats a petal out of the way herself, which does nothing to deter the spygoats responsible for the “manoeuvre” in the first place. Next is....

There! ]

No opponent of your caliber would fall for that.

[ She is, however, feinting with her pieces right now. ]

Re: they’re so haa-ppy to be a part of this

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-04 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Iskandar raises an eyebrow. That's ... quite inventive. He's already five moves ahead in his mind but somehow Hibiki still manages to surprise him.]

Neither would I follow for want you just did.

[He delivers his reply with a wide grin. It's a sheer pleasure to play against an opponent that can surprise you.]
priforprince: (revolution)

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-05 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ He saw through her.....but of course he did. She can’t even be upset. ]

Splendid.

[ The game continues!

....are the goats going to keep blowing petals around with this fan that just showed up until the place is buried? ]
towards_okeanos: (thunder)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-08 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! I pity anyone who'd have to meet with you on a field of battle.

[They can go on like this close well into eternity. Surely breaking a world record in the category the longest chess game in human history in the process. Unless they get buried under those petals.

Would someone please let the goats know they're on brink of cosmic catastrophe if this continues? Because the critical mass of the accumulated petals is on a brink of imploding into a little, purple black hole any minute now.]
priforprince: (leave)

oh my god what if it’s a draw because they have to escape death by petal before they’re done

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-09 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Going up against me is an honor only few are allotted. The rest would prove dull.

[ Is it....getting somewhat.....

Harder to make elaborate gestures in here....? ]
towards_okeanos: (sigh)

the horror! it's petal apocalypse! how do you even call it? petal-pocalypse? might be a draw then...

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-13 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Iskandar thought it was funny at first but now it starts to become annoying. He usually prefers to see the board when he's playing.]

Are they always this enthusiastic? Your goats?
priforprince: (befuddled)

the goats won without even playing. they have learned well from maa-ster

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-14 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
....Hm?

[ Hibiki, have you not realized yet. You can barely move your elbows, Hibiki.

Hibiki. ]
towards_okeanos: (heee)

the goats are true winners here

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-14 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hibiki?

[Has she fallen asleep there? Earth to Hibiki. Or rather... Far Shore to Hibiki.]

You may want to order them to stop.

[Not seeing the board was one thing. Right now he can't even see the pieces and they both are in serious risk of getting snowed over with the purple petals avalanche. How is that even possible they didn't run out of this stuff already?]
priforprince: (aback)

1/2

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Stop.....

[ Wait - this -

This is - ?! ]
priforprince: (yelling)

2/2

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
HOW DOES DROWNING ME QUALIFY AS CHEERING ME ON?!

[ At Maa-ster’s displeasure, the goats (themselves long buried) stop. The last flurry of petals drifts down.

The board is now covered.

C-could these spygoats.....have maa-de.....a maa-stake.....? ]
towards_okeanos: (hey)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-16 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[That was ... loud.

Iskandar has to employ all his self-control but he manages not to let out even a chuckle. The situation is indeed dire! Neither Hibiki nor her goats dabble in half-measures so the number of petals exceeds anything they could deal with themselves.
He observes the last petal slowly but maa-jestically drift down to the pile to join many of its brethren. Its descent bringing a sense of profoundness and finality to the scene.

Ahem...they may need assistance? Who knows maybe even maa-sistance?]

I believe we may call this battle a draw. I see no way of continuing it in those [He pauses. That he can sit there and converse with a straight face is a small miracle of its own.] previously unforeseen weather conditions.

[He almost pities the goats. They had good intentions... and yet sometimes it's the best intentions that cause the most disastrous consequences.]
priforprince: (congratulate)

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
.......Indeed.

[ Let’s call this a draw - and then pretend the circumstances surrounding its conclusion never happened. Does that work for you, Iskandar? Because it works phenomenally for Hibiki.

With that in mind, she forces herself to stand, dislodging petals everywhere - and offers Iskandar her hand. IF SHE GRINS HARD ENOUGH, THIS WILL ALL GO AWAY. ]
An excellent bout. Let’s meet again on similarly dashing fields of battle.
towards_okeanos: (Default)

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-18 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That is my wish as well.

[Iskandar stands up causing another small avalanche of purple petals. He brushes off most of those that stuck to cape and armour. There's no way he got every single one though.

Now, there's just one more thing...]

You do have a goat with a vacuum cleaner? It would reflect poorly on us to leave this mess for Odin's shinki to clean up.

[Excuse him for making such a preposterous suggestion. Of course, Hibiki would never do such a thing to a fellow god. Right? RIGHT??]
priforprince: (sigh 2)

[personal profile] priforprince 2019-07-24 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
My staff know their duties.

[ Which is the cue for these lumps under the rose petals to start moving away, in search of vacuum maa-ttachments. Or fellows with such already equipped.

Except they can't see. A lump bumps into the wall.

Hibiki tries not to sigh too noticeably. ]
towards_okeanos: (ahem)

Wrap? Have mercy on poor goats

[personal profile] towards_okeanos 2019-07-26 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Iskandar nods.]

I would not doubt their competency. If I sounded like that, it's only because I know not the extent of their talents. For I am sure they are many.

[Hibiki might dismay at the goats maa-ttempts at locating an maa-ppropriately equipped one. Iskandar thinks it's hilarious. Even if he found them just bizarre in the beginning, he's grown used to their many shenanigans. Watching their exploits it's definitely entertaining. It's only fitting they are Hibiki's servants. Purveyor of the Ultimate Quality Entertainment.]
