Who: Lance & Shiro
When: Shortly after Hifumi’s departure.
Where: The remains of her temple, Serapis temple
What: After hearing so much about people up and leaving, Lance experiences someone up and disappearing, leaving him homeless.



[It happens one day, when Lance is out. He’d just intended to take a walk around the district, and when he gets back the temple is just...gone. In its place are ruins, like it’s been gone for centuries and not five minutes.

By now, he knows what this means. He’d met enough people willing to explain the way things work here. Hifumi is gone. She’s left. He doesn’t know where gods go to when they leave the Heavens, but he hopes she’s gone somewhere where she can be happy. That’s the least anyone deserves, and Hifumi seemed nothing but nice.

He slowly picks through the temple, amazed and despairing of how it was so immediately reduced to nothing both, until he comes across something salvageable. A shogi board. Hifumi had started teaching him how to play, and...he wants to take it. Bring it with him, wherever he goes.

The question is, now, where does he go? He stands in the middle of the ruins, holding the board, and....thinks.]

[Lance believes that earnesty. Shiro...feels like someone he can trust.

He'll take care of him.

He makes his way through the ruins of the temple, still holding on to the shogi board, while nodding.]

Lead the way.

[ Lead the way he will. ]

We have plenty of room--it's just Keith, Pyrrha, and me. Aside from the cats, but they go wherever they want.

[He knows Keith and Pyrrha, at least, though it's going to be awkward running into Keith. He was so flippant with him about people disappearing, and now Hifumi's up and disappeared.

Awkward.]

Well, of course they do. They're cats.

[ It'll.... probably be fine. Shiro has a feeling things might be a touch prickly between them; that's just how it is... but at the same time, he knows they do care about each other. Or--at least, when they remembered each other. He hopes that's the case here. ]

They're the real gods and goddesses of this place.

[It'll be fine, at least until Lance starts remembering things. There's no way he's going to handle his memories coming back gracefully. That's just not in the cards.]

Doesn't surprise me at all. [He snorts, shaking his head.] They're spoiled.

Even more spoiled when you're around.

[ But he doesn't sound super put off by that. It'll be good to have Lance around, not just for the cats, but for the others, too.

And it doesn't take long to reach the temple. Shiro leads him in. ]

Here we are. So... are you hungry or anything? Or do you just want some time to find a room and settle in?

I would never!

[He would. Those cats are going to get so loved and so spoiled.

He's glad the temple's close, though. He's kind of glad to just...be here.]

Depends on what you're offering. [He's not really hungry, but he...doesn't want to be alone right now. Maybe that makes him needy, but so be it.]

Somehow, I have my doubts.

[ They totally are.

But, anyway--he leads him into the kitchen. ]

Plenty of tea. Things to make sandwiches, rice, vegetables... pretty simple stuff, honestly.

What, that's it?

[Geez...such a lacking kitchen.]

But I guess I can go for a sandwich.

We have other stuff, I'm just--

[ a pause. ]

I don't exactly have the best cooking skills, so...

[ now lance is judging him.... terrible ]

Well, I guess nobody's perfect.

[He pats Shiro on the shoulder.]

[ rip..... ]

I appreciate the vote of confidence.

You're welcome.

[He is going to make himself at home in the kitchen, and start pulling out the stuff to make a decent sandwich.]

Haven't you tried to learn, though? I mean, it's not that hard.

Don't get me wrong--I've been practicing. [ A pause. ] After everything else that goes on here, though, it's not really my first priority.

[ Which is, you know, sort of an admission that taking care of himself comes after everything else. Hopefully Lance won't catch onto that. ]

[Listen, Lance might be a dumbass, but he knows people. He's good with people. He knows exactly what Shiro means, and he frowns at that.]

You kind of have to prioritize taking care of yourself, dude. It's the only way you're going to be able to handle everything that comes at you.

[He says, being a massive hypocrite.]

[ Yeah, he really should've expected that. Oof. ]

Don't worry--I know more than enough to be able to take care of myself. It's better than eating food goo every day, at any rate.

[He should have!! It's almost like he doesn't know Lance at all, smh.]

Food goo? [What the fuck.] And - maybe! But still. You don't have to worry so much about everyone else.

Shiro lets out a breath, running a hand through his hair. ]

It's always been instinct, honestly. I guess it's a bad habit, but I don't want to see thr people I care about hurt or wanting for anything.

[He can't, because he has to worry about everyone and that means you, Shiro.]

Well... [He sighs.] I can't fault you for that, but you're only going to hurt yourself if you try to pick everyone else's battles.

[galrarm]

[ yeah just ask matt holt about shiro picking someone else's battles ]

I... can't argue with that. [ He starts up a bit of hot water for tea--enough for Lance and him, if Lance wants. ] I'd tell you not to worry, but you seem like the type to do that anyway.

[ It's said gently, at least. He's struck by how similar they really are, right now. Constantly worrying about others, pushing down their own feelings so as not to worry someone else... bad habits, but. They die hard. ]

Lance puts the finishing touches on his sandwich, before starting to make a second one. He could ask if Shiro wants on, but he doesn't get a choice.]

I don't know. Is there a reason I'd have to worry about you, besides from the fact you're trying to do everything yourself?

[He raises an eyebrow, giving Shiro an unimpressed look.]
