What: Nanako is hosting a Magical Girl Anime Night and Sleepover! Everyone is invited!
A. We're on the case!
- [ Every since Nanako's conversation with Hibiki a few weeks before, she'd been on a mission to locate the entire series of Magical Detective Loveline to have a showing at her temple for friends who had never seen it before. Which is, in her opinion, a Great Tragedy. But finding out that several of her other friends also liked watching similar things, she has since decided to make an entire Event of it.
Temple Nanshe is decorated in a possibly absurd amount of Pink and pastel rainbows for this anime night/sleepover. One of the rooms has been prepared with giant cushions and pillows and blankets for people to sprawl and be able to watch the anime on the large TV set against one of the walls. There's plenty of room for everyone to get comfortable however they like.
The dining room table is laid out with a variety of brightly colored foods including cupcakes cookies and candies, as well as an ice-cream bar with all sorts of colorful toppings. Nanako might have taken this whole Magical Girl theme a little too far, but she's clearly had fun preparing everything for her friends so they could enjoy themselves and tonight's Magical Adventure.
Either way, the Temple is opened up and decked out and ready to host all of Nanako's friends - even the ones she might not have made yet. In honor of the occasion, the hosting goddess herself is dressed up in her very own Magical Detective Loveline cosplay, which people who have known her for a while may have seen her dressed in before.
Show up, mingle, munch, and make yourselves comfy! ]
B. Stop or I'll put a cap in ya!
- [ Anyone who has known Nanako for any amount of time has probably heard that Magical Detective Loveline is her absolute favorite person and she takes her fangirling of said Magical Detective very seriously. Which is why she's hosting tonight's party, after learning that several of her friends have never been lucky enough to experience such prime entertainment.
The series itself is about a pink-haired girl who transforms into a magical detective to solve crimes and mysteries in a Sherlock Holmes fashion along with her dapper dog sidekick, who wears a monocle, top hat and cape.
If you weren't expecting the resulting magical shenanigans and ridiculous mysteries that accompany such a premise, you are clearly in need of more magical girl animes in your life. Either way, Nanako hopes you enjoy watching the adventures of her favorite hero with her! ]
C. Sweet Dreams!
- [ Knowing the anime viewing could run late into the night, Nanako's temple has been prepared for an all-night sleepover for those who just want to crash after the anime ends. There are bedrolls and futons available to be laid out in the large open living area where they'd all gathered to watch the anime, but there are also several guest bedrooms available, as Nanako's temple is set up like a Japanese B&B. There are hot springs outside should you like to soak and relax before sleeping. Feel free to seek out Nanako or one of her shinki if you need a little help in where to get settled.
Feel free to make yourself at home! ]
OTA!
[Ayumu can be found in the dining room trailing after a five year old girl in a quickly assembled magical girl costume with a plate in hand. Toyo's looking surprisingly happy and alert for a soulless shinki right now as she points to different foods with her wand and silently tugs on Ayumu's skirt.]
So this one, this one, that one, this other one, and that other one over there, Toyo-chan? Are you sure you're gonna eat all of that? You'll be up all night.
[Despite her words, Ayumu's depositing every single one of the little girl's snack choices on the plate for her. This is a special occasion and Ayumu had brought her over to play and watch the show with Nanako, thinking the little goddess might appreciate some company closer to her own age tonight. That and Toyo seemed to perk up a little around the other girl.
Once the plate's full, Ayumu starts looking around for beverages, calling out to whoever else happens to be in the dining room.]
Do you see any drinks around?
B. Magical Detective Loveline
[That theme song is going to be stuck in Ayumu's head for a while. She's never seen a show like this before and well, it's charming. It's so silly and wholesome; of course, she's utterly enchanted by it. The more she watches, the more she wishes that Falulu could be here, too. Ayumu has a feeling that her young friend might enjoy this just as much as she is.
Ayumu's sprawled across one of the cushions, chin in her hands, her eye glued to the anime shenanigans on screen. In contrast, Toyo seems far less invested in the show than her goddess is outside Loveline's transformation sequence during which the little girl looks vaguely... jealous? Wistful? Who knows what goes on in the mind of a soulless shinki.]
This is a really cute show, isn't it? Know any others like this?
[She's totally asking on the behalf of the five year old with her and not for herself. Why would anyone ever think otherwise? Forget that she's been humming along to the theme song every time it plays for a good six episodes now.]
C. Sleepover
[Ayumu hadn't planned on sleeping overnight, intending to take Toyo home quite some time ago. However, she found herself caught in the same trap as many anime watchers - she kept putting it off for one more episode. At this hour, she's too tired to teleport back to her own temple so maybe she will just sleep here for a little while before heading back with Toyo.
At the moment, Toyo's sleepily clinging to her goddess as Ayumu gives her a very tired and awkward piggyback ride through Nanako's temple while looking around for a place to sleep. Hopefully, she'll find one pretty quickly. Ayumu's not really built to carry small children around like this but transforming Toyo into her vessel form just to carry her to bed feels silly to her.
Hearing footsteps ahead in a corridor, Ayumu calls out quietly, weariness slurring her words as her fake Kyoto accent slips into her native Osaka drawl.]
Excuse me but could you point me to a free room?
B
At Ayumu's question, Ginia glances over, knuckles pressing to her chin in thought. Chris would certainly know more about magical girl shows; she's only dabbled in a few herself. She glances at Toyo then back at the goddess with a light smile before she begins to type on her phone.]
I guess it depends on what aspects you're interested in? I don't know too many mystery ones, but I can think of a few magical girl shows. Or if you like the aspects of people helping each other out and the music, there are some idol shows I could recommend?
[Don't think Ginia hasn't heard you humming the theme. It's a very catchy theme, isn't it. It certainly makes for a good ringtone...]
no subject
Well, all of that sounds fun. I suppose something cute and happy. I like the songs from this one.
[Ayumu thinks.]
I like mysteries, too, but I think I'd like to watch more magical girl shows. With Toyo-chan, I mean. Of course.
[Please forgive her, Ginia, this is the first time Ayumu's ever actually watched anime outside commercials. She usually watches daytime dramas and variety shows involving contestants in ridiculous outfits.]
no subject
I think you might like Hit Desinty: Girls Rock Ball. It's about groups of teenagers competing in a music concert. The music is really nice.
[She glances at Toyo with a knowing smile. As for a magical girl show to watch with her and definitely not because Ayumu wants to watch it own her own...]
As for another magical girl show, try Idolamagika. They fight monsters to protect the purity of music. The costumes are really great and the songs are really good. There's a lot of action in the show.
no subject
We'll have to look into these. I think it'd be fun to watch them together. How about you, Toyo-chan?
[Despite her earlier ambivalence toward the adventures of Loveline playing out on the screen, Toyo's nod now is surprisingly enthusiastic. Maybe the little soulless would be more into watching at home but the little girl seems content enough here at Nanako's.]
I'll have to ask Joss to help me set things up. He's the one with all the technology know-how in the temple.
[She tries. She tries very hard. But there's only so much learning and understanding a woman from Japan's task can reasonably accomplish within a year when she has absolutely no baseline for much of the electronics she's seen today.]
no subject
[Joss isn't quite a boy of this era, but having lived in goes a long way. Anyone can learn how to set up electronics, but it takes time.]
I can loan you some blu rays or give you sites you can watch the shows from.
[Joscelin can roll his eyes all he wants at the cuteness. It's good for the soul. Besides, he might enjoy the catchy music and fight scenes despite himself.]
A!
Hi, Ayumu! Hi, Toyo-chan! I can get you some drinks! There's water and juice and tea! what would you like?
no subject
Good evening, Nanako-chan! I'll have -
[Before she can finish speaking, there's a clatter as Toyo drops her wand on the floor, and immediately lunges for Nanako, arms outstretched toward the tiny goddess and beaming brightly.
"Nana-nee! Nana-nee!"
Nanako has about two seconds to evade before she winds up on the receiving end of a full contact glomp.]
no subject
Hi, Toyo-chan! Did you come to watch Loveline with me, too?
[ Glancing up at Ayumu, she grins at the other goddess, hoping she didn't mind. ]
no subject
She smiles at the sight, simply bending down to retrieve her shinki's wand, carefully balancing the plate so none of its contents fall onto the floor.]
We did. I told Toyo-chan we'd get to play dress up. We had a lot of fun putting together her costume.
[Even if Ayumu hadn't quite been sure just what a "magical girl" was at first, she thinks that she and Toyo managed to figure something out. It had been a rather enjoyable way to spend the afternoon, really.]
We looked up different pictures and she picked out the wings herself.
[It'd taken some tries and a lot of prompting to get Toyo to decide but somehow Ayumu had gotten the little soulless girl to respond.]
A
Hearing this clarion call to maa-ction, a spygoat with a tray rolls up, presenting Ayumu with her choice: would she like to fill these two glasses with some of the iced tea in this pitcher, or some of the juice in this bottle?
It defaults to assuming tea is always the preference, but since there is a child in maa-ttendance, the spygoat has opted for maa-riety. ]
no subject
Oh, thank you, dear. I'll have tea. How about you, Toyo-chan? Which do you want?
[After a long moment of blank staring, Toyo points to the juice.]
And this one will have some juice.
no subject
The feat, however, is maa-naged, and Toyo is offered her juice. These goats are friends with Maa-nako. They will help make her party a success! ]
no subject
Thanks. It's very kind of you to help Nanako-chan out like this.
[Is she talking to the goat or the person behind it? Who can say for certain. At any rate, Ayumu seems comfortable enough simply chatting with the goat as she gives the platter one final lookover to make certain she didn't forget any of Toyo's requests.]
no subject
It shifts a little closer to Toyo in so doing. Children are not intimaa-dating. Which is nice. ]
no subject
Toyo doesn't seem to mind at all, contentedly sipping her juice, as she smiles at the goat. She has the same bland smile and blank stare most soulless do but at least, she's still a charming kid.
Ayumu continues chatting, gesturing for the goat to follow them. Honestly, she talks to animals, even stuffed, inanimate ones, more comfortably than people most of the time.]
How about you come sit with us? I think the showing's about to start.
no subject
This goat will follow Ayumu and Toyo anywhere they care to go. Should Maa-ster require it, it will need to get back to work - but until then, it is a free range robot. And it would like to glom onto this herd! ]
b
[This time, he'll try to sketch out a little magical girl transformation sequence for Toyo instead, although that might take a bit. While he does so, he looks up at Ayumu's question.]
Oh, I don't doubt it. There are a lot of cartoons that little girls love. These really cute ones are really common.
Re: b
I'll have to seek those out. I'm afraid that I'm still trying to turn my temple into something more child-friendly.
[Even if Ayumu'd had a childhood, her experiences are severely outdated by modern standards. From what she's observed of Toyo's behavior, she doesn't seem to be too familiar with modern technology either but it's impossible to tell if it's because she's soulless or because she's from a different era such as herself. There's just so many unknown variables when it comes to soulless shinki.
It may be a matter worth investigating seriously, if only to make her a better caretaker for Toyo and any other soulless shinki she might take into her temple in the future.]
I don't know a whole lot about what little girls today enjoy so I'm learning as I go.
[But isn't that how parenting works?]
no subject
With how much of a selection there is, I don't blame you for being a little lost. And then there are some things which look like they would be cute but then turn out not to be...
[Anime is truly deceiving.]
You can get an alright idea if you look on the boxes of some of them, however. There's a rating system so that you can tell what's good for what ages.
