Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[Sheryl heaves a sigh for a moment once the commotion as died off, but her shoulders tense up a little because...]

A banshee?

[They are off to a great start — or not. She rests her hands on both hips, a very stern expression upon her features, her eyes narrowing into slits. Thankfully at least she's not screaming her head off anymore.]

Could you care to correct that? I think you should.

[kendont]

E-eh?

[Somehow, this presence is so intimidating... Souma's not sure how to handle women to begin with, and now this one is glaring at him? He lifts his head from his bowing position on his knees to look at her with mild confusion.]

Was it... perhaps that I chose the wrong country of origin to speak about spirits? I apologize, but it seemed the best comparison I could make.

[galactically]

[Sheryl Nome is well versed in many things aside from taking charge on stage to sing her heart out. Intimidation is among such skills, and she keeps her narrowed gaze onto Souma... until he says something else that causes her look to turn owlish, like she'd just seen technicolor horns sprout from his forehead.

Or he just got hit a thousand times on the head.

Either way, she punctuates her words with a dramatic point in his direction.]

Never insult a woman by making such pointless comparisons to ugly animals, especially when she's angry!

[kendont]

Forgive me, but I believe the banshee is a spirit based on a woman, rather than any animal...

[Why is he correcting her at a time like this!! He can't help but say it, even if he's basically cowering.] Mercy!

Wait a minute...

[She drops that hand to her side, looking calm for the moment. Souma does have a point. Banshees are based on female spirits, not animals, but wait this means one thing—]

[galactically]

You just compared me to an ugly woman! How dare you?!

[Her expression morphs into a comically enraged kind.]

[kendont]

O-once again, screaming is filling this temple! Please, refrain from such loud volume, miss! You are far more beautiful... that is to say, banshees can also be beautiful...! I did not mean any offense by this!

[HELP HIM... He scrambles away from her now for his own safety, picking up the mop he'd been wielding and trying to sweep it across the floor again. This time with less shouting.]

I will quietly return to my work, so please do not be alarmed!

[galactically]

['How can cute men be so irritating?!' she thinks, narrowing her eyes and huffing at him.

First Alto, then Slaine, and now Souma... they're all at least harmless men, thankfully. This newcomer seems to have foot-in-mouth problems, now that Sheryl has a small window of time to finally cool down and think about it.]

You really should watch what you say, honestly...! Foolish boy.

[And with Souma in one side of the room, Sheryl quickly heads to the other side with her arms folded in front of her, giving him the "I'm watching you" look.]

But I don't understand what was being said wrong in the first place...

[Women confuse him... Then again, it seems a little familiar, somehow. Wasn't there someone else he used to anger like this? He couldn't remember at all, but the feeling sits in his stomach and he's even more confused for it.

His mopping slows a little during this confusion, but he catches himself and puts his effort back into it completely.] I am just wondering out of pure curiosity, but will I be the only one cleaning this temple?

[galactically]

You insulted me earlier. Did you just forget?

[This newcomer might be one of several infuriating people Sheryl has met, not even his cute face and his resemblance to Alto may save him — as she just figured out.

Frustration leads to pettiness, remembering the time she deliberately made a TV producer get into random directions due to his nonstop chatter when he gave her a ride home. It's ultimately harmless, but...]

That's right, you'll be the only one cleaning this up.

[Said dryly, a bit surly on her end.]

[kendont]

[Suddenly, his grip tightens on the mop and he moves with even more energy! Thankfully, he's not swinging it or his katana around anymore, but he sure is cleaning quickly. Efficient.]

I see! Then, miss, please allow me to atone for my sins in this way! Since you were merciful enough to not wish harm on me, then I will put all of my soul into cleaning this temple completely! Not a single speck of dirt will remain once I am finished! I swear on my name, Souma Kanzaki!

[First thing that comes to Sheryl's mind as she listens to Souma: 'this boy is so dramatic!'

Her expression falters, then morphs into one of genuine surprise, her eyes widening a little. He's been causing her so many mood shifts, oscillating between annoyance, curiosity, anger, and finding him cute, and then going right back in circles.

But here's another emotion that sneaks up on her upon his declaration...]

[galactically]

[Laughter.

Which is why her shoulders slowly begin to shake, and she closes her eyes, letting a few chortles slipping forth until they transform into laughs.]

[kendont]

[The laughter isn't a bad sound... It's not bad at all. But it does startle Souma. His cleaning pauses just for a moment as pink colors his cheeks. Is he being made fun of? He can't tell!]

W-what is so funny?

[galactically]

[It's a nice, melodic sound. Still laughing, though.]

S-Sorry! It's just... [She attempts to stifle her laughs, curling her hand near her mouth.] You took me by surprise, that's all!

[kendont]

My ambition is no laughable thing! If surprise is the goal, then please stand back as I clean this temple more thoroughly than it has ever been cleaned!

[He's very serious about this! He's back to mopping already. He'll show her...!! She'll understand from his actions, alone!]

[galactically]

[Such intense mopping action! It's like Souma owns the entire temple floor and mop.]

Oh my, you must really like to make this place spotless, don't you?

[Sorry, she... finds his ambition amusing. Strangely admirable with how driven he is, but amusing.]

[kendont]

[This time, he doesn't stop his intense mopping while he speaks with her. He multitasks!]

As I have said more than twice already now, yes. I aim to remove this place of all filth and dirt, as I was instructed! To delay on this would be to put the burden on another's shoulders. As a warrior, I cannot do that!

[galactically]

This is a cleaning duty, Souma! Not some world-saving challenge.

[Her amusement remains plastered all over her face as she folds her arms. It's funny how he's able to get her mood shifting back and forth with his words alone. Seeing him so dedicated, though... she can't help but feel a bit guilty from her earlier bout of pettiness.

And so, there's now a sheepish expression.]

Even warriors like you need some R&R right about now, don't you think?

[kendont]

I am not familiar with this "R&R," but seeing as it does not sound familiar to me, this must mean it is not part of the warrior code I live by. Cleaning duty is a serious task that is neglected by many!

[Many like Sheryl, probably, but he's not being pointed right now. He's just mopping very determinedly.]

Until every last temple is cleaned or until I can no longer will my body to move, I will work!

[galactically]

It stands for "rest and relaxation"! Which you definitely need.

[It doesn't help that Sheryl leaves most of the cleaning to Eno in her temple, oops... Just as Souma puts effort in cleaning, Sheryl puts it on singing.]

I like your tenacity, really! Putting forth all your efforts into doing what you must, but at least try not to exhaust your body.

[kendont]

If I grow exhausted from such simple tasks, then it is my training that is lacking! I need to push myself!

[He's kind of desperate about this, even... Is he scrubbing even faster now? Yes.]

[galactically]

Not to the point where you can't even move your body anymore!

[She lets out an exasperated sigh, watching him scrub even faster.]

Didn't you just scrub that spot on the floor? It's already clean!

[kendont]

To simply remove the dirt from a spot does not make it "clean!" I will not stop until this floor shines spotlessly and sparkles in excellence!

[He's not going to quit until he passes out!!]

[galactically]

But it's shining, too!

[SIGH...]

Fine. Have it your way, but don't complain when your entire body becomes sore once you've reached exhaustion. Don't say I didn't warn you!
