Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[ Luckily for the both of them, Reiji isn't jumpy enough to kick Souma out of Izanagi's temple immediately. The sound of the door opening has him descending the stairs in case it's Souji who had come back - but it isn't, so he just stands on the stairs to watch. He's donning a pair of earphones plugged into an old iPhone, and he slowly approaches with slight curiosity while bobbing a little to the music being piped into his ears. ]

Hey, Uh... did Souji invite you here?

[kendont]

Hyah! Seeeiiyah!

[Hmm, he's so involved in cleaning that he hasn't noticed Reiji just yet. He swings his mop like a weapon, but still is somehow managing to clean the floors quite well? Just, as he turns to get ready to do this side, this man is right there, blocking his way!]

Uohh! [Looking startled, he quickly bows his head in apology before he resumes mopping a little more tamely.] My apologies, but I am not familiar with any Souji-dono. I am going temple to temple cleaning by order!

[heiring]

[ Cleaning by order... that's a little strange. But this guy seems to be so into it... ]

If you mean the Heavens' order, I think we were supposed to clean only the Heaven Hall? Or did someone else send you here?

[ There could be a mix-up and he didn't want to waste the other's time. ]

This is Izanagi's temple, by the way! What's your name?

[kendont]

Really? What I heard was "Clean your home and the home of others, as well!" So, I marched to the nearest temple and began!

[He's so eager.] My name is Souma Kanzaki! I am honored to be able to help clean this temple.

[heiring]

[ Okay. He can roll with that. ]

Suwa Reiji. Nice to meet you! [ He'll hold out a hand for a friendly handshake. ] At least let me help you. I can't do nothing while you're working like that.

[kendont]

I would be honored to accept any help, Suwa-dono. Is this the temple where Suwa-dono resides, then?

[Like, clearly, if he's walking around in it. But Souma sure did waltz on in. He accepts this handshake now, bowing a bit along with it before his hand returns to his mop.]

Currently, I am defeating the dust and debris that exists on the temple floors, but it would be much help if Suwa-dono were to dust any counters and shelves!

[heiring]

Yeah, I live here. So does Souji, who's my god; he's Izanagi.

[ He's gonna give Souma a brotherly pat on the back on this point. ]

Don't worry, I'll get to it. [ Time for impromptu cleaning apparently... ] You don't have to be so formal with me. Just Suwa is fine.

[ He's casual, but Souma doesn't get first-name treatment like girls do... ]

[kendont]

I feel as if it is natural for me to show this level of respect to others. If you truly reject it, though...

[Then he supposes he can go with Suwa. It feels like it would be normal to be called just "Kanzaki" as well, so should he really be picky? He's just going off of feelings. Even a friendly pat on the back is startling right now, when he has barely any idea what's going on.]

He is your god, but you also refer to him so casually?

[heiring]

Oh, I see. If it's a personal preference, then don't let me cramp your style. [ whoops ] I like to be causal. We'll be working together, so I don't usually do formal. It's more relaxed that way.

[ The way Souma asks his question also makes him sound really traditional. For some reason, it doesn't feel weird to Reiji. ]

I'm not sure how the other god-shinki partnerships are, but - we're friends. Partners yes, but also friends. It's okay to speak casually of your friends, I think.

[kendont]

That sounds like an admirable relationship indeed.

[He passes a duster over to his new friend, offering a warm smile.] I have no memories of my life before now, but deep in my chest, my beating heart tells me that adding this structure to my own life will allow me to move forward with that much more seriousness. I feel that if I can share my respect for all those around me who deserve it, I will better myself as a person.

So if it does not make Suwa-dono uncomfortable, I will refer to him as such, and he can simply refer to me as "Kanzaki."

[heiring]

[ Reiji listens to Souma speak with attentiveness, removing his earphones and tucking them into a pocket. The other youth's reasoning sounds perfectly logical to him (even if he doesn't know why), and it's something he can respect very much.

Maybe he was like this when he was alive. But without his memories, this newfound freedom feels more natural. ]

That's fine with me. Sorry for asking. [ If it's just habit and not by formality, then it's okay. ] Are you contracted to anyone, by the way?

[ He's already decided that they will be friends. ]

[kendont]

By contracted, does Suwa-dono perhaps mean to ask if I have a god? As a shinki, I believe I do have one... But I am still searching for them. I feel in my heart that this destined meeting will happen soon.

[He places a hand over his own heart, curling his fingers lightly.] Because of that, I do not wish to stray in my path. I'm sure I will meet this person soon. What of Suwa-dono?

[heiring]

I was in a similar situation when I first came, too. Don't worry about it, they'll find you. Or you'll find them. I wandered around on my first day and found myself in my god's temple on the second.

[ Fate (?) works in mysterious ways. But Souma looks capable enough to handle himself, so Reiji has confidence in him. He continues the conversation while wiping the counter - it looks clean enough, given that they've only lived here for a month, but it's a good distraction. ]

If you have any questions about our duty and stuff like that, I'll do my best to answer them. [ A pause, then: ] Do you mind if I play music?

[kendont]

On the contrary, music would be quite nice right about now! Does Suwa-dono also find something both calming and exciting about music?

[This guy is so nice... Actually, he's admirable in a way, somehow! That charming smile and those nice words... Souma finds himself drawn in, even if he's not sure why.]

[heiring]

[ Reiji nods when Souma says yes, moving to the speakers set on one of the shelves and slotting his music player into it. He replies while swiping through his list of songs. ]

Yeah, of course! I'm glad we feel the same. Music lets us express our feelings in a beautiful way.

[ With that, he presses play. It's set to shuffle a couple of pop songs - some are cheerful, others rhythmic, with some more relaxed in between. There are a few with no vocals, though he does not know when they will play - but then again, that just makes it more exciting. ]

Do you sing?

[kendont]

I have only just arrived here, but that question stirs something in my heart. I would love to try singing, at the very least. There are already songs that seem to be all that is in my head.

[Strange, how he can remember those. These ones playing are very nice, too, so he relaxes as he cleans now.] Does Suwa-dono sing?

[heiring]

[ It sounds like they've had a similar experience. That's great! ]

I do. I can't remember why I'm inclined towards it, but that's hardly an issue. You should show me some of yours!

[ He's holding off on doing it first, after Sheryl had been an audience. She's clearly on his level if not higher, and yet she won't sing for him. He still needs to get better. ]

[kendont]

Ah, shall we trade our songs? If Suwa-dono could please pause the music, I will gladly sing a few verses that are in my heart! The music, as well, will come from my soul, so please listen closely.

[Once given the okay, he sings a few verses of a song that he can remember with no explanation.]

[heiring]

[ Reiji does as asked, nodding in approval once Souma starts singing. It's easy to catch on to the beat - and he's good! ]

You've got a great music sense, Kanzaki. [ He says this with a honest smile, tilting his head. ] I'll definitely sing with you.

[ It's not intentional, but there's a measure of skill evaluation there. As much as he doesn't want to upset people, he can't be free if bound to amateurs. But Souma is not one, so that's all right. ]

I sort of remember a few songs as well, but I feel like I can't sing them alone. I've been doing covers of what I've heard on the radio instead.

[ He goes back to his music player and flips through his playlists before selecting an off-vocal track that he probably pirated off the internet (oops). Then he begins to sing. ]

[kendont]

[From the second top unit at the school, and as the youngest member, he does have a lot of talent. Not that he knows this! To be praised by this person warms his heart, and he flushes a bit because of it. Still, that dulls as he slows his cleaning to pay more attention.]

Suwa-dono also can feel that sort of thing? My own song does not feel complete, so I am looking forward to hearing what Suwa-dono has found to sing for himself!

[Eagerly, he listens, and by the end of it, he's practically starry eyed.]

Suwa-dono is truly a great singer! Uwah... My heart was stirred... Somehow, it's such an admirable thing... I feel in awe!

[heiring]

[ Reiji puts his all into his performance - even if he's still in his god's temple, there's a particular light in his violet eyes, a sort of intense focus that had been absent from their conversation before. His singing voice is clear like crystal, projected with skill and honest emotion.

Really, he's only good because he goes an extra thousand miles than the rest of his idol group. ]

Thank you. I can't remember exactly how I got this, but - practice makes perfect. You can be on my level too.

[ Given Souma's nature, it's probably not impossible. But Reiji has a head start, even if he's forgotten it. ]

[kendont]

On Suwa-dono's level? To say such a thing is extremely flattering!

[He pauses from his cleaning, finally, thoroughly distracted by the idea of singing.] If possible, I would love to sing together with Suwa-dono some time.

[heiring]

If you'd like to practice, I can look over your singing [ the words 'look over' are accompanied by airquotes ] and try to help you. Or we can just meet up whenever you're free to jam.

[ He's kind of free despite his part time job, so it'll depend more on Souma's schedule. ]

- oh right, you got a phone when you came too, right? You'll be able to contact me that way.

[kendont]

I would be honored! Ah—

[A phone, that's right! He remembers what that is, despite everything else, and reaches into his outfit to pull out the cell.] Yes, I do! Let's exchange numbers!
