Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[There is a moment, just a brief one, when there's a wild-eyed look in Souji's eyes, and he reaches toward his hip as expecting to find a weapon there. The overriding impulse when startled is always to kill before he's killed.

And then he remembers where he is - one of the few things he actually has any memory of right now - and his cheeks turn a fetching shade of pink.]

I'm- I'm very sorry. [He's already neatly folded his legs under himself, and dips into an apologetic bow.] I was just really tired.

[Oh. Since he's so polite, it's hard to stay mad. After all, he's quite exhausted himself... But he can't simply stop!]

If you have time to apologize, then I urge you to stand and join me! [This time, he extends his hand and it's a lot more friendly.] There is much to be done. It is said that a man who can press past that which tires him can only become stronger for it.

[Maybe if he was a bit more used to his new position, Souji would try to be a bit more of a lazy brat about the whole thing. But everything is still new, and he wants kind of desperately to make the best first impression possible on everyone.

So anyone speaking to him with any kind of authority is going to get him to listen right now. Case in point, he shimmies off the bench and onto his feet.]

I'll help out with anything you need me for, so ah... please don't tell my God, okay? I'm kind of new, and I don't want to embarrass myself. [Souji, you sound like a kid asking a teacher to please not send him a note home.]

There is no need to be alarmed. My intentions aren't to "tattle" or waste energy nitpicking. Rather, if you are tired, perhaps it is something I can aid with. Dehydration could be a cause. Shall I fetch some water before we begin our rigorous cleaning?

[He's decided on this much, at least, so he's sticking to it. But the least he can do is get the guy a water bottle.]

[Look at this loser visibly relaxing upon hearing that no one is going to tell on him. His God is just the best person ever (he can already tell, thank you) and Souji doesn't want to look bad in front of him.

Which is kind of funny, since the God in question definitely sneaked off to smoke and contemplate bad poetry the first chance he got.]

You know, my throat did feel kind of dry after the muting candies, so if that's not too much trouble...

Muting candies...?

[Did he miss something? Souma looks briefly concerned by that for a moment before passing over some of his cleaning supplies for Souji to hold for him.] Ah, well, regardless... I will fetch water, so please hold this in the meantime! I will be as swift as the wind!

[In fact, he runs off... there he goes, his arms held out to his sides and trailing behind him. What an embarrassment. He returns a few minutes later with water and passes the glass over in exchange for the cleaning equipment back.]

[What an absolute embarrassment indeed. But Souji just seems amused by the whole thing, as if absolutely impervious to secondhand embarrassment. Thus his not-very-subtle attempt to cover up a laugh once Souma returns, and the giggling which continues even as he reaches out to take the glass and exchange burdens.]

Thank you. Ah, and the muting candies were just candies I found lying around here. They made my voice go away for a while when I ate them.

[Calmly sipping on water as if admitting that he just ate strange candy lying around is completely normal.]

[Seemingly oblivious to the laughter, Souma accepts his cleaning supplies back and begins to wipe down the bench around Souji. He does give him a sidelong glance, though.]

Perhaps it is too rude of me to say this so suddenly, but to pick up candy that was simply lying around... Isn't that a bit...?

[Dangerous? Weird? Gross?]

Well, I woke up a bit... hungry, you know?

[He'd woken up to this new life in a body not nearly as ruined by disease and subsequent starvation as he had been when he died - not that he knows as much. He just knows that he's been feeling like it was forever since he ate, and he honestly hadn't even thought once - let alone twice - about it when he found the candy.]

Besides, they looked really tasty. [And without further prompting, he fishes out a handful of candies from the sleeve of his yukata. Yep, he sure kept some of them.] See?
