Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[The familiar voice is a relief, even as Slaine briefly wonders if that meant he was overheard just now. He takes the time to edge around the urn, unwilling to look away from it lest it pop up entirely unannounced behind him, until he leaves the room. Once he's back in the entryway, there's Genos...

And he almost looks like he's going on some kind of trip, carrying a backpack around like that]

Genos? What-

[What's the backpack for, he wants to ask... But then the urn makes a sudden appearance, right between them, cackling as its lid clatters about. This time, Slaine starts, but he doesn't make a sound. He merely jolts and puffs out a vexed sigh shortly thereafter]

...Not again...

[scrap_metal]

[ Urn, you do not do that. You don't startle, already startled fully-armed cyborg. Because Genos first reflexive reaction is to shoot the blast at the urn... which leaves a black stain all around it, while urn itself is untouched. ]

[It was a pleasure to burn, eh, Genos?

Slaine casts another sidelong glance at the urn, waiting for it to do anything pointedly suspect aside jeer and laugh at them, but for the moment it's silent. And then, just like that, it vanishes as though it was never there with another shrill, raucous laugh]

Something in this place has a poor sense of humor, it seems.

[ Genos drops the backpack at the entrance, and places hand over the pocket with Motoki. All that sounds could end her nap, and he don't want to deal with escaping kitten right now. ]

Was that an ayakashi? [ Then he notices the blackened stain on the floor and remembers their mission for today. Woops. ] You are cleaning here?

I don't think it was an ayakashi... At least, it didn't try to attack me.

[Popped up out of nowhere to startle him, and then followed him to greet Genos, but not an overt attack yet. That might change, so he can't be entirely sure, but for now it seems the case]

Others seemed to have more populated areas covered, so I thought I'd come out here instead.

[Maybe there's a reason others didn't venture this far out...]

[ Genos will look for cleaning tools or just a rag, really, so he can start scraping the black from the floor. It's his fault to adding more work, so it's a least he could do. ]

Interesting. So more like those not-malicious creatures from folk tales. Only annoying. [ Because startling people is annoying, no matter how you look at it. Despite him saying it's interesting, there isn't real curiosity in his voice. ] There, clean.

[Genos got that done very quickly... Although Slaine feels bad about standing around while he did the work, even if he did generate the mess]

Seems that way...although I only just got here.

[But now he's going to gesture at the backpack]

Were you headed somewhere?

[scrap_metal]

[ He looks at the backpack, and shakes head. ] Not really, those are just my things.

[ He touches the nape of his neck awkwardly where the name-carve was before. ] I'm skipping on duty. But if you need help--

[ He doesn't finish the sentence, because now fully woken up Motoki slides out of his pocket and happily runs away to jump on one of the shelves ]

[His things...

Slaine looks to the backpack again, lingering this time-

At least until small thump of something hitting the floor catches his attention. He spots a cat scampering away toward the shelves, watching her hop up onto them. It's still really dusty in this place]

Showing her around then?

[He recognizes Genos' cat when he sees her]

Something like that. [ Is his first answer, when he runs after the kitten, trying to catch her before it's too late. Can't let her enter playful mode right now. ]

[ He catches the kitten and tucks her into the big pocket again, ignoring the protests. This place has open door, and many dark corners. ]

My god disappeared, we're no longer welcome in the temple.

[That's...a feeling Slaine knows a little too well. He's never found himself unwelcome, exactly, but he has found himself alone, more than once. When it's someone else, it seems worse, now]

It's happened to me a few times... If my experience is anything to go by, next time you wake up, you'll have been reassigned.

[That may not be any comfort, he realizes, but he thinks it's something Genos should be aware of]

I'm sorry he vanished.

[ That immediately catches Genos attention. He was so sure he was alone with his confusion and purposelessness, that he didn't realize someone else might have similar experiences. ]

...I had no idea. [ he turns his gaze away ] Does this happen often?

I've heard of another case, however... the frequency I've experienced appears abnormal.

[Which is to say, most shinki don't seem to bounce between several gods inside of a month. Not the greatest of distinctions to have, but one that nevertheless has become his]

[ Genos sighs. This knowledge doesn't make him feel better, but at least eases a bit of his worry. Only to be replaced by the worry of who his new god can be. ]

[ Cat head peeks up from the pocket again. Still curious ] I'm sorry, I probably shouldn't have ask.

[Slaine's quick to shake his head]

No, don't worry about it. We lack for so much in terms of information...if it helps at all, it was worth discussing.

[And he means that. They're constantly left with unanswered questions — at least there's an answer to this one]

And you know...like you, I had someone with me.

[A nod to a certain feline]

[ Genos absentmindedly scratches kitten by her ears. It works, and she's no longer interested in leaving the pocket. As long as the scratching commences. ]

That's always a company.

[ And also a responsibility. ]

I'll wait for that new assignment then. [ He looks around. If they closed the door the kitten would be contained only to the interior... So he repeats the offer. ] I can help you with this temple.

I'm sure someone like you will be assigned a good god.

[After all, short-lived as his time with various gods has been, they've been kind to him. As hard as Genos works, and as dedicated as he's shown himself to be, surely he'll be appreciated by whomever he ends up working with]

So long as you're sure you wouldn't mind. [He casts a glance around the room. New pottery on the shelves again...] This place is quite large.

[ Genos can't help but bitterly remember Saitama's words, why not to get attached to people or pets. Because they might get taken away. But he will treat his duty seriously with whoever becomes his new god. ]

Let's go room by room. If we can close them off I could let Motoki out, without worrying she'll run away.

That's a good plan of attack.

[And with that said, Slaine's off to close some doors. It'd be much easier to focus on cleaning if there aren't any concerns that Motoki will get into trouble or stray out of sight. She seems young, so the inquisitiveness makes perfect sense.

It sort of makes him wish he'd brought Lily along, but he'd worried about all the dust]

[ When all the doors are closed, and Genos finishes inspecting windows, he opens the pocket and the kitten is out, like a little ball of energy it is. Immediately jumping on some poor, tiny spider who tried to hide in the corner. ]

I'll start with the top shelves. [ Genos says. He's going to have it easier, being the taller one ]

[Merciful Genos, using his superior height. Slaine nods along, pacing over to a small pile of cleaning supplies to get a dusting cloth for his fellow shinki]

I can get started with sweeping the floor. That way, Motoki won't have so much dust to contend with.

[Not that the little cat seems to mind, but it seems like a good measure to take all the same]

Oh, you're going to have fun. [ Genos mutters, knowing very well what will happen. Motoki is afraid of vacuums, but she will follow a broom or mop religiously, attacking it from time to time.

He starts cleaning the top of shelf on the opposite end of the room. ]

[Slaine is at least fairly methodical about cleaning, though once he's gotten started sweeping... It's impossible to ignore the attention he's managed to garner. Fortunately for him, he's got fairly good reflexes, so he can at least keep the broom from getting tackled]

She's quite spry, isn't she?

[ Even with his superior additional 8cm, Genos still can't reach the upper portion of the big wardrobe, so he takes a table as a stool. Because the actual stool didn't look sturdy enough, that's why. ]

She's almost always on 160% energy level overdrive. I can't keep up. [ That's not a complaint, just stating of fact. Because Genos finds that energy quite cute.

When he reaches to move some of the objects on the furniture the urn returns, cackling with cloud dust right into his face. He yelps, and tries to punch it, but that makes him lose his balance. ]

[The very specific percentage prompts a small smile as he watches Motoki continue to try and catch the broom]

Good for exercise then-

[Slaine starts to say, but when that cackling rings out again and Genos yelps, the words abruptly fall short. He halts what he's doing and moves to see if he needs help, though by the time he gets there it might be late to prevent a fall.

Unfortunately not as fast as a cyborg]
