Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.







Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

[She blushes, not realizing she came off as that new.]

Ah, yes. I am new. Um, I'm Hinata--well, Bast, now I guess. It's nice to meet you, Yumi-san.

[Then she's picking up her bucket and rags once more.] And if you don't help, then... I'll be glad to. Just, um, what haven't you cleaned?

Well, I haven't gotten to that corner over there yet if you'd like to start there.

[She gestures to another cobweb-infested corner on the same side of the room.]

It's a bit high up but there's plenty of things to stand on if you need to. There might even be a ladder in one of the closets around here somewhere.

[It hadn't really occurred to her to look for one until just now. Oh, well, she's been doing just fine without one and it's too much of a bother to lug one from place to place when she can just use what she finds on hand.]

It's nice to meet you, Hinata-san! I should have figured there'd be new arrivals today. They like to bring them in on days they have big jobs like this planned.

[She laughs a bit before continuing her work.]

So a goddess, hmm? What do you think of it so far? It's a big change, isn't it?

[hyuuga]

[She looks over to the corner then takes only a rag with her.]

It's all right. I can get it.

[She doesn't exactly want to show off especially being so new here, so follows Ayumu's example and drags a chair over to the corner to balance on.]

And they do? Hm.. That's good to know.. And it's... It's certainly different. It's strange being so entwined with another. Um, are you a goddess as well, then?

I am. The current incarnation of the goddess Vesta I'm told.

[And after saying the name for a month, now Ayumu manages to pronounce it correctly.]

She was a goddess of the hearth, it seems. I'd never heard of her before coming here.

[Her tone remains casual and friendly while she chats.]

Do you know much about Bast?

[hyuuga]

Vesta... [It's ok, Hinata hasn't heard of the vast majority of the gods here. It's just not that big of a thing in her world.]

What is a goddess of the hearth, if you don't mind me asking? And as for Bast... I've never heard of her either. But... from what I've been able to gather [which is so very little], she's a cat goddess? And a sun goddess, too.

Bast sounds lovely.

[Ayumu means it, too. She's partial to cats and the sun. Her attention shifts to her other question.]

As far as I know, hearth goddesses are tied to the home and family. Vesta's associated with fire as well.

[hyuuga]

[She smiles. Home, family and fire are all things she enjoys and knows very well.]

And... Vesta... sounds just as nice. Home, family and fire... They are all great things to be associated with.

[kagenonadeshiko]

I think so, too! Home and family are so important.

[Ayumu tosses a warm smile in the younger goddess's direction. What a lovely girl. Could she be a kindred spirit?]

And fire's so versatile. It can gently warm or burn to ash if need be.

[She laughs a little.]

[hyuuga]

[She nods. Fire was her main element back home even though she's never shown using it.]

Home and family really are. If you don't have either, then... You don't really have anything, I think. While fire, it just depends on the wielder... But I think that is also why it's one of the main elements of the world.

[Definitely a kindred spirit.]

I agree. A tool is only as effective as the one who uses it.

[Prior to being assigned to work with the Shinsengumi, there'd been limits to what she could accomplish. In her own opinion, Ayumu's done her best work under Hijikata's command. He's far better at using her than most have been.]

Great skill and understanding make a difference.

[hyuuga]

[She nods in agreement, finally finishing cleaning the corner.]

And how well the tool has been maintained.

[A pause as she climbs down and gathers her thoughts.]

Which, I guess, is just a different way of looking at what we've been brought here to do.
