007 | Clean Up Your Act

Who: Everyone!
What: Spring cleaning
When: All day April 15
Where: All around the Heavens
Summary: The Heavens don't like things being cluttered, so it's time to clean up a little bit.

Main Hall

While the main hall of the Heavens seems spotlessly clean at all times, that's not the case at all. In fact, it's been at least a decade since the last time they actually cleaned everything out properly. There are a lot of hidden closets and back rooms that have layers of dust and dozens of boxes filled with nothing but junk. Who knows, though! You might find something interesting and useful in there along with all the garbage.

Suprises

Unfortunately, some of the older temples on the Far Shore seem to have some interesting surprises tucked away, ranging from cursed artifacts all the way to magical creatures locked up in long-forgotten rooms. You are free to be creative with this as a way to get your characters into trouble while cleaning.

Complimentary Dinner

After all of your hard work, you deserve to have some tasty food and refreshing beverages. So the Heavens have provided that for you, so that you can wind down after a long day. It's not as fancy as the banquets they often put on, but there is a nice array of food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Counselling

As usual, there is a white-robed shinki bearing the gold chrysanthemum of Amaterasu sitting at a table in the Main Hall. There is a small sign that denotes her as the counselling shinki. Anyone is welcome to approach her, and she will smile serenely at anyone passing by as well.

In Summary:
  • Clean up your home
  • Help clean others' homes
  • Get the main hall clean too!
  • Hope no hidden magic jumps out
  • Seek counselling if you need it
  • Enjoy your complimentary dinner
  • Have fun~

[ Genos frown deepens at mention of that. The incidents continue to happen, but so far it didn't get worse. ]

I still lose parts of functionality occasionally. I'm trying to pin-point if there is specific reason to it but-- [ He shrugs. It usually happens when he forgets about the problem and lets his guard down. He looks at the wardrobe again, but the urn is gone.

Ready to strike any time again. ]

[Still losing some functionality... That must be concerning, especially when it's Genos' body they're talking about. Slaine frowns as he contemplates that. It may be that no one knows how to help someone whose body is made that way.

Though, it makes him wonder...]

Is either arm doing worse than the other?

[He's going somewhere with this]
scrap_metal: (not pictured here - lost arm)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-20 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's only one. [ Genos shakes his head. ]

Maybe there is a dent somewhere, pinching a cable. Or maybe something isn't connected right. [ He looks pretty lost on that explanation. ] I really don't know how it works.

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Now armed with that information, Slaine holds a hand out, palm up]

May I look? Another set of eyes might help, for something like this.

[Not to mention, he can look at Genos' arm from a different angle. Maybe there's something he wouldn't be able to see as easily from his own perspective]

If you want to. [ Genos agrees too surprised to say something else. Weren't they supposed to be cleaning? Not that he's excited to take on that stupid job. ]

I'm not sure myself where the problem might be. It seems to affect strength of my grip and hand hand maneuver, so it could be somewhere around the wrist or elbow. But when it happens I get a... distinct feeling shooting from my shoulder.

[ It's hard to describe, because he's not sure himself how different he is from a normal human. He has a sense of touch, dulled a bit over the armored parts, but it's there. Pressure, temperature, texture it's everything he can and does register. Even pain, although he's again not sure how close it is to "real" pain. If it ever gets to intense, he can switch off portions of the receptors, losing part of the input.

It might seems pointless to equip a cyborg with ability to feel pain, but he suspects he wouldn't be able to tell he's damaged if not for that. ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be something interfering then, between your shoulder and hand.

[No doubt something that Genos had already concluded, of course. Something along the length of his arm isn't working, but it sounds almost like a feedback issue, what he describes. The interference then is causing some sort of problem.

Since he's been given the go-ahead, he catches Genos' hand in his, just so he can move his arm about and try to get a sense of how his joints work. Machinery doesn't seem foreign to him, though this application doesn't strike him as especially familiar.

He doesn't make a sound as he's doing this, watching his arm intently]

[ Genos doesn't say anything at first. Skills are not taken from the shinki, so if Slaine had some knowledge about engineering or robotics, he might know what he's doing. Of course that would mean Genos is incredibly lucky, and probably isn't going to happen. But he's curious what kind of information they can get. ]

Should I take it off? [ Yes, he means the arm. ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Slaine is rather absorbed in what he's doing, and he doesn't realize at first he's being spoken to...because he's listening for something as he moves Genos' arm about, rotating joints this way and that.

Once he does realize Genos has said something, his eyebrows knit together in a brief debate of what he'd missed exactly, before he simply has to ask]

...Pardon?

[Sorry he got very focused on the matter of this arm]
scrap_metal: (what else?)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-20 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Should I take the arm off? [ Genos repeats the question ]

Wouldn't make it easier to manipulate and check it? [ It's no longer attached so might be looked from all kind of directions, and probably better analyzed. Unless of course Genos reactions to the check-up are needed. ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
You couldn't tell me if moving your arm had any effect then...could you?

[Slaine has no idea if Genos would be able to sense input from his arm even if it's detached. Now that the subject has come up he's certainly wondering]
scrap_metal: (what kind of armor is that?)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-20 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
No, once it's disconnected I can't do anything with it.

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
In that case-

[Slaine pauses, brow furrowing, and turns his arm again. Then he turns it the other way. He could swear...]

Do you hear that?

[A faint clicking sound]
scrap_metal: (frowny shocked)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-20 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't sound like this. [ Genos raises his eyebrows. Normally when he moves it, it doesn't make sound like this. But even when he relaxes his arm, and allows it to be manipulated in all directions, it shouldn't be sound that it makes.

Carefully he takes his arm off Slaine's hold and repeats the exact turn and joint move as he did it. Three times, and only on the third the sounds is made. If it's something that doesn't happen every time, no wonder he missed it. ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-20 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[It took a while to pick up on that sound, and a bit longer to be sure he'd heard it... Now that Genos has also prompted that same minute noise, and confirmed that it shouldn't occur, they've gotten closer to the source of the problem]

Do you think something might have gotten under the outer casing and lodged between moving parts?

[That could account for the sound occurring specifically when his moving his joints, and may explain its intermittent nature. Whatever it might be could be shifting]
scrap_metal: (thinking very hard)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-21 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
It is possible. [ He crashed into few things here. They usually broke sending fragments everywhere. With a sigh he reaches a bit behind his shoulder, searching for that little hooking place right under the plate. Then same on the front. Few clicks more and arm falls limp as it gets disconnected.

It's a bit weird, suddenly losing control and feeling in a limb, but removing in entirely from it's socket is probably the weirder part. He can handle it easily with just one hand, another proof of that "highly customizable" nature of his design Add mentioned. ]

If it got there, it's hopefully easy to remove. [ He says, his fingers tracing the outer rig of the arm socket, but he can't take a look at the inner workings. At least not without a mirror ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-21 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Although by now he's familiar with the reality that Genos' body is mechanical, it doesn't change what a sight it is to see someone remove his own arm so casually. He doesn't find himself terribly jarred by it, perhaps owed to the occasions when they've spent time around one another.

It seem to him that it would be difficult for Genos to find whatever the problem is one-handed, so after brief assessment, he thinks to inquire on the matter]

Could you use some assistance?

[Between the two of them, surely they could find whatever it was]
scrap_metal: (frowny from angle)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-21 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
Please. [ Genos nods awkwardly. As much as he would like to take care of this himself, he can't neither a good look inside, nor manipulate there all that greatly. ]

It will probably look like something not meant to be there. Or maybe a part is bent, twisted in wrong direction.

[ And if they need tools to remove it, then there is a problem ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-21 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Something out of place...

[That would make sense. While Genos is holding his arm, Slaine gets right into rotating and moving joints again, trying to single out where along his arm the interference comes in.

Once he hears the sound again, he sidesteps to approach this from another angle, manipulating the elbow joint]

Right around here I think...let's see...
scrap_metal: (noticing or imagining things)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-21 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
You got something? [ Genos is peeking curiously too. ]

If you need to take it further apart, I know how to do it.

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-21 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think so...

[Excuse him while he fiddles a bit more with Genos' arm to be sure. The sound does seem to be coming from around his elbow though, he concludes after several moments more of this]

Are you able to move the outer casing here?

[Patting the elbow]
scrap_metal: (introspective)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-21 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Genos turns the arm around, and once again hooks a fingers under the casing, next to the elbow protective plate. One, two clicks, and the outer casing comes off partially. He rolls the arm again and does the same on the opposite side, removing the part of the casing and separating arm from the forearm ]

It would be much easier if I had separate set of arms. [ Then doing the partial maintenance himself wouldn't be such a problem ]

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-23 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Like a spare arm, you mean...? [It might be a humorous notion, if not for how practical such a provision seems to him. Having spare parts to change out would be far more convenient, especially for the active nature of their jobs as shinki] Perhaps it would be possible to engineer something, based on the workings of the ones you have.

[Surely it must be easier to replicate than to come up with something out of nothing. So Slaine thinks, anyway. With some of the inner workings of Genos' arms exposed, he peers thoughtfully at the mechanisms there.

There's something...vaguely familiar about it. At least, it all makes sense, and he thinks he can imagine what certain parts are for, allowing a soft hum as he considers.

All very compact, isn't it?]

Ah, I think I see something.

[Excuse him while he just sticks his hand right in there, without any concern for fingers getting pinched or otherwise hurt by parts that might move. It takes him a short while, but eventually he tugs out what looks to be a rather haggard sliver of hardwood]
scrap_metal: (frowny from angle)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-24 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ How did it get there is the first question that Genos wants to ask- but he stops before saying it aloud, remembering where he had plenty of crashes with wooden objects. ]

It could be there since the school incident. [ Yes, the library ]

[ How could something wooden damage metal? Yeah, by getting inside the more delicate inner-workings underneath. He starts to close the casing slowly, having only one hand to work with, as he tries to formulate his thoughts. ]

I'm truly grateful for your assistance. If you ever need help with anything, please don't hesitate to tell me.

[personal profile] ex_adept179 2016-08-24 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I could help... And you've already given me a hand here.

[No pun intended, of course...

Being able to do something meaningful, small as it is, on his own is gratifying in a way. Not to mention, he considers Genos a capable ally and being able to help him in particular is something he's glad for. Having an intermittent problem like that must have felt encumbering]

This may be strange to say, but the construction of your arms seems...sensible.

[At least, he thinks he can gauge what different parts are for and how they function. It doesn't strike him as wholeheartedly familiar, but rather, reminiscent of something he must have seen or known at some point]
scrap_metal: (not pictured here - lost arm)

[personal profile] scrap_metal 2016-08-25 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Genos lips curl into a small smile at the hand comment. Intentional or not, he noticed that pun. Looks like he'll be owing Slaine more than just cat hammock for this. ]

I sometimes forget how well they are made. I have a nearly full functionality of movement, as a real arm would. [ What kind of dedication and skill would be required to craft something like it? ]

The weapon systems seems almost like an afterthought. [ Functionality of the arm came first. Weapons are a bonus. He's almost done with the putting it back together, and he grabs the arm to reconnect it, but pauses to brace himself. It's not entirely pleasant experience. ]
