[There's talk of a new cat café having just opened in town. Sharing the name of an already popular business, it seems they're expanding to a second location. As with the original, the café occupies two stories of a building in the shopping district. Taking the stairs or elevator to the fifth floor leads one to the front doors of this new establishment, name bright and bold.

This first floor is the actual café area, offering beverages and snacks for purchase. Treats can be bought for the cats as well, who mill about the location in great numbers. Taking the stairs up to the second floor, yet more cats can be found, along with televisions and video game systems. If someone wants to spend time with cats, they've found themselves the right place to be.

Now, the thing is — they're really understaffed. And walk-ins may be encouraged (if not outright coerced) to fill out a job application. The business is doing well enough that they're hoping to get more hands on deck, so those wandering in or playing with the kitties a bit too long might just find themselves face to face with an application]

[ooc: Treat this as a cat café mingle. Toplevel and tag around to your heart's content, become an employee or a customer. Or try to smuggle cats and see what happens]

[ Does it mean he's supposed to buy something now? With a sigh he resigns himself. The cat is not going anywhere. ]

Well, I... don't think that matters to the cat.

[And said cat is clearly very intent on this fellow's lap]

[ Genos frown deepens, but he doesn't do anything to throw the cat away from him. He looks at Kaneki again noticing the uniform. He wonders if it's a Far Shorer working him, or did the cat presence grounded his presence enough for waiters to notice him. ]

Fine. Show me the menu. [ He could use a cup of tea. Or coffee ]

[The frown's a little intimidating, and Kaneki is quite visibly nervous during this lengthy silence between them. But once Genos breaks it, he offers a nervous smile for that development]

Okay, I'll be right back-

[He hurries off, returning shortly thereafter with one menu. This of course includes the usual café fare, much of it cat-themed... And then a little list on the back of treats that can be purchased for the cats themselves]

Here you are.

[ Of course there are cat-treats. OF COURSE. Why haven't he thought about it. It would be way too much of a dick move to buy just drink for himself, and not a treat for the cat. He scratches the persian forehead and starts to hear and feel the purr-rattling. ]

One coffee latte, and Salty Salmon treats, please. [ He gives back the menu, then he mutters to the annoying furrball on his lap ] You better like that fish.

[As antimidating as a guy with metal arms and eyes that aren't quite like a ghoul's was initially, Kaneki feels less nervous when Genos talks to the cat. He accepts the menu back and is quick to turn and go handle the order]

I'll be right back with that-

[And off he goes, hastily making his way to the counter to prepare the latte. Fortunately it's easy enough for Kaneki to fix that beverage, and he knows where all the cat snacks are, so it doesn't take him long to return]

Here you are. Do you need anything else?

No, that would be all.

[ Genos takes the coffee and puts it on the table, focusing on opening the treats. The cat is mildly interested on the sound of tiny container opening, but doesn't seem particularly enticed. ]

You're from the Far Shore, aren't you? [ he shoots a glance at Kaneki ]

[Kaneki might've gone right back to work, but that question roots him to the spot]

Ah... Yes I am, actually... Why do you ask?

[He's surely got a reason for inquiring, right?]

I just wanted to confirm- [ It's rare to have such long conversation, - and quick service - on the Near Shore. And it's even more impressive for someone to be able to keep job like this.

But then the persian jumps on the table, knocking over the coffee. Genos catches him before the liquid can touch the cat, but it starts dripping on his legs. ]

Oh you bastard!

Sorry- [As though Kaneki did anything just now. Since it's clear that this guy is trying to keep the cat from the hot coffee rather than hurt it, there's no real conflict as to what he ought to do here] Hold on, I'll get a towel.

[If nothing else, Kaneki's definitely getting exercise on the job. He runs off to go collect some hand-towels, returning shortly thereafter to offer these to Genos]

Here... I can take the cat.

[Since well. Better for the guy to dry his own legs]

[ Genos hands Kaneki the cat, who seems oddly satisfied for the mess he made. Then he grabs the towels, scrubbing furiously at his knees. ]

No treats for you. [ He grumbles at the persian. ]

I apologize for the mess.

Oh, no, I'm sorry about your pants...

[The guy doesn't seem to be in pain, so it doesn't appear that he was burned at least]

I'll go get you a replacement latte.

[Off he goes, carrying the cat]

[ Genos wanted to say that he really don't need that coffee, but, oh well. He uses the towel to wipe the table too, and quickly disposes of them in one of the stealthily hid trash-bins.

At least dark stains aren't much visible on black fabric. But it still needs to dry fully. Before Kaneki returns, two more cats come close tempted by the smell of Salty Salmon treats.

Genos gives in after a staring contest and offers some to them. ]

[Kaneki returns to find the man has garnered a little fan-following of his own. He takes brief pause to observe this, after which he remembers that he's still got that fresh latte to deliver, so he places that on the table]

Sorry for the trouble.

[He sure is popular with the cats. That might be attributed to the treats of course, but the Persian had been drawn to him even before that]

Stop apologizing, it's not your fault. [ Genos says while trying to get rid of another cat trying to climb on his leg. He takes some of those snacks and hangs his hand low. He's totally feeding cats, not pigeons.

Then he takes the latte, and notices the cat face drawn on top of it. His eyes open wide in surprise ]

How did you that?

[Kaneki observes the way he's subtly feeding the cats. The guy really does seem fond of them, and that's reassuring. Different as his appearance may be, he seems like a nice enough person]

Oh, well... Mostly just practice, I guess?

[Among the things he'd learned at Anteiku, since people seemed to like it]

I could show you if you wanted though, next time there's an order.

[ Genos is tempted by that offer. He expected a simple and vague explanation at best. Not offer for demonstration. He finishes giving the treats more or less evenly for three cats that gathered around. At least none of them is jumping on the table this time! ]

Wouldn't going that far be considered giving away company's secret?

[He's waving the thought off, both hands lifted just enough to serve this end before he lets them drop again]

You see, it's just something I do.

[Kaneki honestly hasn't observed whether the others do the same thing, or have their own methods. If there's a standard, he hasn't been taught it]

[ What a good worker you are. They don't require that of you and you make the coffee extra cute. Genos takes a sip. And it's good too, and he's not a coffee guy. ]

If so, I'll gladly take a look how you've achieved that coffee-drawing.

[ But he's kind of becoming slowly a new cat sitting spot, as a lean calico jumps onto his knees ]

[Observing that newcomer cat, Kaneki considers the situation briefly. If the cats are flocking to this guy...]

I'll be right back then.

[And once more, off he goes to duck behind the counter. It should be simple enough to demonstrate if he just brings a few things to the table with him]

[ What's with those cats, really? Why is he attracting cats? Is is because of his body? Maybe they consider him more of a furniture, than a person, so easier to approach? That could be it.

Also warm.

He will drink the coffee with stern face trying to ignore all the cats, but his hand eventually rests on the now sleeping calico and starts petting it. ]

[Kaneki returns not long thereafter with another cup of coffee, a small pitcher of steamed milk, and some utensils]

It's mostly pouring and drawing, like this...

[He says as much as he demonstrates. Minus the cheery music of course]

[ Genos looks fascinated as the cream on the top gets transformed into a cat with just few clever moves ]

Fascinating. I admit food decoration never occurred to me before. [ maybe he should try one day? ] But such touch definitely fits this place.

A lot of the pastries here are themed after cats...so I thought it would match.

[Since Kaneki had learned it in Anteiku anyhow, it seemed like as good a use for the skill as any would be. Besides, it's nice to see people pleasantly surprised by something cute on their latte]
