[There's talk of a new cat café having just opened in town. Sharing the name of an already popular business, it seems they're expanding to a second location. As with the original, the café occupies two stories of a building in the shopping district. Taking the stairs or elevator to the fifth floor leads one to the front doors of this new establishment, name bright and bold.

This first floor is the actual café area, offering beverages and snacks for purchase. Treats can be bought for the cats as well, who mill about the location in great numbers. Taking the stairs up to the second floor, yet more cats can be found, along with televisions and video game systems. If someone wants to spend time with cats, they've found themselves the right place to be.

Now, the thing is — they're really understaffed. And walk-ins may be encouraged (if not outright coerced) to fill out a job application. The business is doing well enough that they're hoping to get more hands on deck, so those wandering in or playing with the kitties a bit too long might just find themselves face to face with an application]

[ He motioned for Reiji to follow him back to the kitchen anyway, because why the hell not. They can’t hold a proper conversation with all these cats running around and anyway even if he is technically a customer it’s still bad form to linger over him like that. ]

They are…tolerable. [ he says at last, stepping over any cats in the way with a good deal more care. ]

But it is quite impossible to let your guard down around them. They get into everything.

[ Reiji knows better than to argue with Jakob, so he'll just nod along a little. ]

The concentration of cats here is kind of more than optimum, yeah. I could feedback this to the owners, if that's okay.

[ Cats are okay in small amounts but not so okay in large amounts. ]

You're really good at this, though. It's cool.

[ 'This' being handling the trays despite obstacles. He doubts he would have been able to keep the tray off the ground, if it was him. ]

[ Please do lodge a complaint about the cats and save him from this misery—er, that is… ]

I might have you practice in this manner eventually, as a matter of fact. It might help you juggle those knives with a touch more ease.

[ He'll give serious consideration to it.

Reiji has to will his expression to stay constant when Jakob mentions the knives. ]

It'll be a challenge, that's for sure. [ Ranged... is not his proficiency. But he's trying. ] What will we be doing for lesson today?

[ No harm asking so he can mentally rehearse what he has to do. Also, he hopes he hasn't forgotten to bring anything. ]

We will keep up those drills on hand-to-hand combat for the time being. [ Even though Reiji’s gotta learn to use a weapon one of these days… ]

Although, given your excellent reflexes, I imagine we won’t linger on those for long.

[ He's receiving sword instruction from Souji, so that's that. ]

I'll try my best.

[ Jakob would know that his strength is average. His edge lies in his reflexes and his endurance, no matter how painful the sessions may be. ]

Let me know if I'll need to bring any equipment. I've been looking to get some jobs, so I'll be able to buy them.

I don’t suppose there are any blacksmiths within the Far Shore who can even provide you with the same caliber equipment as mine.

[ And he’s very proud of somehow knowing how to do any smithing in the first place… ]

When you have proven yourself, Mr. Suwa, I will fashion you with a set of knives like my own.

[ He does think it quite cool that his mentor is able to smith, serve tea, and fight. It's almost like having a swiss-army-knife kind of toolset. If only he could achieve that sort of multiskill mastery...

It'll be some time before Jakob gets off his shift, though. Maybe he should keep talking. ]

I’m glad to hear you say so. [ Modesty?? What’s that??? ] Of course, I cannot claim all the credit. Had I not an excellent master, I would not have aspired to such great heights. So consider this my most important lesson of all, Mr. Suwa: your master is everything.

[ He punctuates that last look with a dark glare that threatens a great many terrors should Reiji fail to show the appropriate devotion for his own god… ]
