[There's talk of a new cat café having just opened in town. Sharing the name of an already popular business, it seems they're expanding to a second location. As with the original, the café occupies two stories of a building in the shopping district. Taking the stairs or elevator to the fifth floor leads one to the front doors of this new establishment, name bright and bold.

This first floor is the actual café area, offering beverages and snacks for purchase. Treats can be bought for the cats as well, who mill about the location in great numbers. Taking the stairs up to the second floor, yet more cats can be found, along with televisions and video game systems. If someone wants to spend time with cats, they've found themselves the right place to be.

Now, the thing is — they're really understaffed. And walk-ins may be encouraged (if not outright coerced) to fill out a job application. The business is doing well enough that they're hoping to get more hands on deck, so those wandering in or playing with the kitties a bit too long might just find themselves face to face with an application]

[It comes as a surprise to Kaneki that he's being tailed, though he supposes it saves time in delivering the menu. Once he's reached the front counter, he ducks behind it to collect one of the menus stored there and collect a lint-roller.

The latter he tucks into the front pocket of his half-apron as he straightens, offering the menu to Reiji for his perusal]

Here you go. I can answer any questions if you have them.

[ Reiji waits while Kaneki searches the counter, inspecting the menu with a thoughtful eye once he receives it.

He looks up after a few seconds, though - regarding the other with a lucid, curious violet gaze. ]

The cats really like you. Why is that?

[ He's definitely going to buy something, but this is more interesting. ]

[Kaneki would've expected an order, rather than an inquiry like that. He squares his shoulders unconsciously, unsure why, but quite struck by the notion that he's being assessed in some way.

Though exactly how eludes him in this moment]

I'm not sure if they especially like me, exactly... It was pretty quiet earlier, so I was just around.

[ Not exactly the answer he's expecting, but Kaneki seems to be a quiet guy so maybe he should change his approach. ]

I think it's kind of cool.

[ That's what he feels about the matter. It wouldn't flow to keep pestering Kaneki about it, so he just closes the topic. ]

Could I get some iced coffee please?

[It's a kind thought, and one that Kaneki evidently wasn't expecting, if his dumbfounded expression is any indication.

But he's quick to shake this off, because he's got work to do]

I can get started on that right away- [And he starts toward the equipment, only to pause] Oh, um...the name for your order?

[ He isn't surprised, because somehow Kaneki's dumbfoundedness doesn't strike him as odd. Maybe he just has that kind of effect on people.

Or maybe Kaneki isn't used to getting praised. That's something that doesn't sit quite right with him - so there will be more conversation. ]

I'm Reiji. What's your name?

[Kaneki lifts a hand to point at the name-tag pinned to the front of his uniform. He knows sometimes people borrow each others' name-tags so he doesn't think anything of being asked that]

Kaneki Ken. [And then he's moving over to the machines he'll be using here] I'll have your order ready soon, it doesn't take very long.

[ Aw, he was expecting you to tell him without the name tag. But oh well. Partially Reiji's fault for being too used to name tags written in Kanji. ]

Nice to meet you.

[ And he'll follow, if only to watch. He keeps a respectful distance as to not appear nosy, but his interest is very much conveyed. ]

[Fortunately (or perhaps not), Kaneki has the hiragana reading under kanji for conveniences' sake. It wouldn't do to make customers guess, after all... Or so he assumes is the logic.

He pauses at Reiji's statement, head snapping up in genuine surprise... And then he reminds himself to get back to the order]

Oh, um... It's nice meeting you too.

[It doesn't take him long to prepare one iced coffee, setting the cup down on the counter for Reiji to collect]
