003 | Save The Boats
Who: Everyone!
What: It's a few days after Hinamatsuri - time for a party!
When: Late evening (March 5, 2016) into early morning (March 6, 2016)
Where: The banks of the Kamo River
Summary: The Heavens have thrown together an outdoor party to celebrate Spring and ALSO to ask the Far Shore residents to keep the boats from Hinamatsuri from coming to shore.

Hinamatsuri is celebrated in Japan on March 3 every year. It is a festival to celebrate all of the young girls of Japan, not as important as their own birthdays, but certainly a big day for all families with a little girl among their household. It's perfectly normal for all of the cuties to dress up and get all sorts of delightful treats out of the day.
One of the normal festivities is a ceremony during which ornamental dolls are placed on tiers on boats and floated down the river. It is thought that all of the bad luck for the coming year floats down the river with the dolls, taking that bad luck away from their young girls to keep them safe for another year.
But the boats don't always make it all the way down the river like they're supposed to, and the Heavens sometimes like to make sure that the year will be full of less bad luck for the people of Japan. So they have decided to have the almighty gods do some legwork and disguised it as a fun Springtime party! They expect gods and shinki alike to push the boats away from the shoreline wherever they see them venturing near.
New gods and shinki will have been ushered immediately to the party as well, given all of the normal information, and then left to mingle among their new cohorts. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the newbies to both their co-workers and the kinds of jobs they'll be expected to perform.

Buffet
A luxurious buffet is set up for everyone to enjoy. There are all kinds of foods to enjoy, though they all seem to be of a local variety. The Heavens have apparently used the funding from their own temples to purchase local food and support local businesses at the same time. In particular among the food and copious amounts of booze, you will find some Hinamatsuri staples - hina-arare, hishi mochi, chirashizushi, and a salt-based clam soup called ushijiru. Among the booze you'll find shirozake, a sake made from fermented rice, also a regular fare of Hinamatsuri.
The Boats
As if they are literally overflowing with bad luck, the boats seem to be making a desperate attempt to land themselves upon the shoreline. They are reluctant to make their way back into the water and will gladly run people down if they're allowed to and are happy to ram into someone over and over again to try and get their way. When they are finally pushed back to the center of the river, they will begrudgingly continue on their way. Of course, some of them will simply sink because of the weight of all that bad luck, but who can really blame them.
Children
As expected of a day dedicated to celebrating children, there are dozens of children running around and playing games during the festivities. It's hard to distinguish, but some of them appear to be human children while others are shinki. They are happy to let anyone in on their games and will gladly bother adults to come play with them or to let them try some of the liquor. (Mods will be available to play out any child interactions you may want, just flag us down.)
Counselling
Off to the side, there is a tiny table set up with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". On the other side of the table is a sweetly smiling shinki who is willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. She is also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

"I don't need any special place," Hibari said, once again trying to attack by sweeping the man's legs from under him.
woops i was rolling a different tense than you, changing that here
If it came to it, he might have to neutralize the problem, if he could.
Words would be better though, so he had to make another attempt at reasoning...useless as that was appearing to be. "I don't know about you, but I'm not here to mess around."
it ok i didnt even notice
And he practically grinned, digging his feet in and launching at the guy just as fast as he could, preparing to rain down several blows in hopes that at least one would hit.
no subject
One could only avoid so many things from so many fronts.
If it hurt him, one wouldn't know it from the way his expression failed to change. A slight narrowing of his eyes, a tight set of his jaw, and naught else. It seemed that he wasn't getting out of this without neutralizing his attacker, then.
Well...he felt he had a sense of the type. "Is that really all you can do?" If he could goad him into really going full tilt...
no subject
Hibari saw the fact that attacking quickly had gotten him to break through, so he did something similar again, only this time adding a kick with almost his full force behind it.
no subject
Which ultimately led to him letting that kick strike him, gritting his teeth past the pain. Even half-stumbling he was able to catch his leg and shove back with his own weight in an effort to knock the guy off-balance and hopefully end his momentum.
If he showed enough stopping force, that'd surely end this.
no subject
He was suprised when his foot actually connected, and pretty solidly at that. It was thrown back of course, and he stumbled backwards for a couple steps, but Hibari stopped his attack.
For entirely different reasons than Slaine thought. "Why are you holding back?"
no subject
But ultimately he had to shrug and offer the simplest one.
"We're not enemies." If they were, he supposed he couldn't hold back then. But he had to surmise that this guy was probably like him - he noticed his existence for one thing - and so they were part of the same effort. The same side.
Why engage in friendly fire?
no subject
It felt like the right thing to do. "So you don't respect me enough to feel fear."
He held himself upwards, as regally as he could-somehow, Hibari felt it was unusual for people to NOT fear him and his position. "I don't like people like you."
no subject
"I don't equate fear and respect. To fear is to shrink away from - to respect is to acknowledge." And he hadn't failed to acknowledge this person, as far as he was concerned.
He thought to suggest that if he didn't respect him, his conduct would've reflected it, but...well. Formality was a more comfortable stance, Slaine knew this much of himself in short order. "And I have acknowledged you, or we wouldn't be speaking now."
no subject
Contrary to expectations, Hibari DID have standards and rules when it came to everything. "You were holding back on me. That doesn't mean you've acknowledged my skill."
no subject
"...Tell me how I'd profit in aiming to injure you, exactly." He broke the silence with this, folding his arms under the supposition that present company wouldn't be attacking too abruptly again. "If I were successful it'd be one less person doing the job we're tasked with - weakening the cause."
Shooting oneself in the foot was surely never a good idea.
If only he'd seen Hibari's method of dealing with the boats...
no subject
"That's absurd. You'd profit by winning and killing me." He didn't once believe the two of them were even on the same side-at least for the moment. He didn't get teamwork at all.
no subject
Knowing what this fellow thought there was to gain might shed some light on the matter, at least. Not that he anticipated changing his mind on something like this.
no subject
"There is no meaning in life if you are defeated. Then the one who defeated you can take your name, title and your life. You will die or worse-be left with nothing but humiliation at the hands of another. They will control you to your dying days."
With each word, Hibari began stepping closer until he was up in his personal space. "I won't allow that to happen to me."
no subject
Yielding ground would give the appearance of weakness...and somehow he sensed that such a thing was disadvantageous. Would leave an opening. For what, exactly, he couldn't say. But that was the feeling he had.
For all that they were practically the same size, he stood as straight and tall as he might. "You'd be much better off knowing precisely what you're dealing with, if you believe those are the consequences of loss."
no subject
He did, in the back of his mind, always going and calculating and evaluating his opponents, but that was during a fight. He didn't need something like that after he'd already decided to fight.
"I don't lose."
no subject
At least if this other shinki's behavior toward him was telling him anything.
"Neither of us can remember whether we've won or lost - but apparently, we died young. That's all we know, isn't it?"
no subject
"What do you know about me?" He snarled.
no subject
"I know you're dead, just as I am. And that you're concerned with martial strength, and appear to be competitive. Shall I continue?" Because there was more, for all the brevity of this encounter.
