003 | Save The Boats
Who: Everyone!
What: It's a few days after Hinamatsuri - time for a party!
When: Late evening (March 5, 2016) into early morning (March 6, 2016)
Where: The banks of the Kamo River
Summary: The Heavens have thrown together an outdoor party to celebrate Spring and ALSO to ask the Far Shore residents to keep the boats from Hinamatsuri from coming to shore.

Hinamatsuri is celebrated in Japan on March 3 every year. It is a festival to celebrate all of the young girls of Japan, not as important as their own birthdays, but certainly a big day for all families with a little girl among their household. It's perfectly normal for all of the cuties to dress up and get all sorts of delightful treats out of the day.
One of the normal festivities is a ceremony during which ornamental dolls are placed on tiers on boats and floated down the river. It is thought that all of the bad luck for the coming year floats down the river with the dolls, taking that bad luck away from their young girls to keep them safe for another year.
But the boats don't always make it all the way down the river like they're supposed to, and the Heavens sometimes like to make sure that the year will be full of less bad luck for the people of Japan. So they have decided to have the almighty gods do some legwork and disguised it as a fun Springtime party! They expect gods and shinki alike to push the boats away from the shoreline wherever they see them venturing near.
New gods and shinki will have been ushered immediately to the party as well, given all of the normal information, and then left to mingle among their new cohorts. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the newbies to both their co-workers and the kinds of jobs they'll be expected to perform.

Buffet
A luxurious buffet is set up for everyone to enjoy. There are all kinds of foods to enjoy, though they all seem to be of a local variety. The Heavens have apparently used the funding from their own temples to purchase local food and support local businesses at the same time. In particular among the food and copious amounts of booze, you will find some Hinamatsuri staples - hina-arare, hishi mochi, chirashizushi, and a salt-based clam soup called ushijiru. Among the booze you'll find shirozake, a sake made from fermented rice, also a regular fare of Hinamatsuri.
The Boats
As if they are literally overflowing with bad luck, the boats seem to be making a desperate attempt to land themselves upon the shoreline. They are reluctant to make their way back into the water and will gladly run people down if they're allowed to and are happy to ram into someone over and over again to try and get their way. When they are finally pushed back to the center of the river, they will begrudgingly continue on their way. Of course, some of them will simply sink because of the weight of all that bad luck, but who can really blame them.
Children
As expected of a day dedicated to celebrating children, there are dozens of children running around and playing games during the festivities. It's hard to distinguish, but some of them appear to be human children while others are shinki. They are happy to let anyone in on their games and will gladly bother adults to come play with them or to let them try some of the liquor. (Mods will be available to play out any child interactions you may want, just flag us down.)
Counselling
Off to the side, there is a tiny table set up with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". On the other side of the table is a sweetly smiling shinki who is willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. She is also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

booze is clearly the best part of the party
[Whoa. Tsuzuki doesn't know this guy, but as his eyes focus on the redhead's face, a bone-deep shock of recognition goes through him, and a jumble of images so vivid they're like his own memories. Salt water in his throat. Darkness.
He coughs violently, as if trying to clear the water out of his own mouth, and his hands fall to his sides as he shakes off that last lingering traces of panic. He knows how it feels at that last moment when everything goes out, too. Remembering isn't --
Isn't easy.
Tsuzuki wipes his mouth on his sleeve and tries again, with a shaky smile.]
Uh, so, hi. Nice to meet you. I'm Asato Tsuzuki and I'm pretty sure we're gonna be working together.
u no it
Uh... yeah, I'm Battler Ushiromiya. Nice to meet you, Tsuzuki-san, but... are you okay? You looked a little... sick there.
[He seems legitimately concerned.]
no subject
Battler, huh? [Tsuzuki clears his throat again -- trying to support the "down the wrong pipe" cover story -- and offers a belated bow.] Well, hi!
I'll have to introduce you to Hisoka. He's my other shinki. Blond, about yeah tall.
How are you doing so far? I bet you've got a lot of questions.
no subject
Of course, he winds up grinning confusedly at the continuation of the conversation.]
Huh? Huh?? Uh, yeah, I guess I've got questions and stuff, but... what do you mean 'other' shinki?
[That's right, this dumb shit can't put two and two together, but he can solve murder mysteries. Go figure.]
no subject
I mean you're my second shinki! Hisoka and I got here at the same time about a month ago.
There's plenty of gods with more than one shinki. The older gods especially. Not that I'm old! I'm still a spring chicken!
no subject
And then he bows very deeply from the waist, hands very firmly at his sides.]
Ah! I'm sorry, I didn't realize! I'm happy to be serving you, Tsuzuki-san. I hope I can be a useful shinki!!
[That went suddenly full formal.]
no subject
Whoa, hey, don't worry about it! It's more like we're partners than like I'm your boss, you know? We work together.
[...besides, he's pretty sure he'd be a terrible boss.]
Hey, you don't happen to know what your vessel form is yet, do you?
no subject
Thank goodness. I hate having to be all formal...
[At the question, he gives Tsuzuki an uncertain look.]
Uh... no, I don't! I'm not even ... totally sure what that means.
no subject
[He hesitates, a faraway look in his eyes for a moment. Ai, the name suggests itself, so -- Aiki. That's what was left as the water rushed in.
Man, drowning for love. It's so old-fashioned and romantic. Also kind of terrible, but it's not like Battler remembers, so Tsuzuki just grins at him encouragingly and skips ahead.]
-- Anyway, when I call my shinki's name, it'll call that shinki into their vessel form. Hisoka's a good luck charm that helps things go my way in a fight, and I'm not sure what you are yet.
no subject
[Battler looks a little skeptical, but now he's tugging at his clothes a little, trying to peer underneath to see if there's a mark somewhere.]
I mean... gods and magic weapons and things. This is all kind of out there, huh? So that wouldn't be too much more far-fetched, but I just don't feel like the sort of person who could turn into something else, you know?
[He sighs, frowning because he can't seem to find the tattoo on any of his accessible bits of skin...]
no subject
Here, I'll prove it-- come, Aiki!
[He raises his other hand, ready to grab, well, whatever it is that Battler turns out to be.
He's kind of hoping for a weapon. Bishamon and Yato have really helped out, but it'd be great being able to take down an ayakashi himself....]
no subject
And responding isn't exactly what he expected. He meant to say something, but instead he is just drawn to Tsuzuki and...
Well, Tsuzuki really didn't need to have his hand out, because Battler in his ornate cape form flutters down around his shoulders, settling there in a perfect fit.]
Whoa, whoa! What's happening?! Where am I??
[Being a cloak is weird...]
no subject
[A cape?]
... Hey, I guess you're like armor, then!
[Ayakashi can't blight vessel forms and a big cape worth of shinki is going to keep Tsuzuki safe from a lot of attacks. He grins, turning in a swirl of black fabric. Okay, this is cool.]
Return, Battler.
no subject
That ... was so weird! How does that even happen?
[He pokes himself in the nose, as if it's like a button that will do something, oh my god.]
no subject
[Well, it's the obvious answer. The more complicated one is that, since they're all dead souls, the form that they take isn't quite as limited by corporeal rules as the shape of a mortal human body. Shinigami have bodies of their own, and Tsuzuki seems to have gotten to keep his in one piece, but souls, well.
Souls can be whatever they want. Like capes, apparently.]
Anyway, hey, I think we'll work well together! I'm, uh, not that great in a fight...
[Which is a wrench to have to admit, but without his summons, it's true. Hand to hand has never gotten him that far, and while he's good with ofuda magic, it's not useful against ayakashi. If things go sideways, Tsuzuki's gonna have to stay off the front lines from now on.]
... But I've got some healing powers, so having a shinki who can keep me safe's pretty useful if I need to go help anybody.
no subject
Battler gives Tsuzuki an impressed look, though.]
Healing powers? That... honestly, that seems like the best kind of magic there could be...
[If magic were real, which it apparently is, but you're not fooling me, buddy!]
no subject
[It's amazing how much better it is to be able to help other people instead of just watching his own body endlessly heal itself. His smile softens, and then, after a moment, he adds an embarrassed laugh.]
Uh, I should tell you so you don't worry! For those powers, it's my blood that heals people. I heal right up too, so don't worry about it.
no subject
Well that's...
[Hm, what's the word he's looking for? Ah yes.]
...morbid.
no subject
[He's got a point. It is blood. Tsuzuki's so used to his own wounds healing, though, that he hasn't really thought of it that way yet.]
I heal fast, too, so it's pretty convenient!
[And it's not like he needs to worry about a little cut here or there to help somebody else recover from their wounds, not when he's got a Shinigami's recuperative abilities.]
no subject
[Battler looks pretty awed, despite what he said just a moment ago.]
I'm not sure I can do anything so convenient...
[Ehhh, in fact, if he thinks about it, he's pretty sure what he can do will be... very complicated, huh...]
no subject
... Hey, do you happen to know what you can do?
no subject
I feel like I know the rules, but I'm not sure... if explaining it will make any sense.
[But the rules are definitely there in his head. It doesn't make sense even in his own mind, though...]
no subject
Hey, if it doesn't make any sense, I'll just ask questions. [He winks cheerfully.]
The better I know your powers, the better we can work together, right?
no subject
[Battler sucks in a deep breath, and then lets it out in a sigh.]
Okay, so... I know that there are three Truths. Red, Blue, and Gold. You can use the Red Truth if you are stating something that you believe to be a fact, so you can use that against your opponent to trap them in their own logic.
[...oh god, this already doesn't make sense!]
Does that make sense?
[NO.]
no subject
[Tsuzuki blinks. Yeah, he's already confused. It just sounds like an argument technique so far.]
