003 | Save The Boats
Who: Everyone!
What: It's a few days after Hinamatsuri - time for a party!
When: Late evening (March 5, 2016) into early morning (March 6, 2016)
Where: The banks of the Kamo River
Summary: The Heavens have thrown together an outdoor party to celebrate Spring and ALSO to ask the Far Shore residents to keep the boats from Hinamatsuri from coming to shore.

Hinamatsuri is celebrated in Japan on March 3 every year. It is a festival to celebrate all of the young girls of Japan, not as important as their own birthdays, but certainly a big day for all families with a little girl among their household. It's perfectly normal for all of the cuties to dress up and get all sorts of delightful treats out of the day.
One of the normal festivities is a ceremony during which ornamental dolls are placed on tiers on boats and floated down the river. It is thought that all of the bad luck for the coming year floats down the river with the dolls, taking that bad luck away from their young girls to keep them safe for another year.
But the boats don't always make it all the way down the river like they're supposed to, and the Heavens sometimes like to make sure that the year will be full of less bad luck for the people of Japan. So they have decided to have the almighty gods do some legwork and disguised it as a fun Springtime party! They expect gods and shinki alike to push the boats away from the shoreline wherever they see them venturing near.
New gods and shinki will have been ushered immediately to the party as well, given all of the normal information, and then left to mingle among their new cohorts. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the newbies to both their co-workers and the kinds of jobs they'll be expected to perform.

Buffet
A luxurious buffet is set up for everyone to enjoy. There are all kinds of foods to enjoy, though they all seem to be of a local variety. The Heavens have apparently used the funding from their own temples to purchase local food and support local businesses at the same time. In particular among the food and copious amounts of booze, you will find some Hinamatsuri staples - hina-arare, hishi mochi, chirashizushi, and a salt-based clam soup called ushijiru. Among the booze you'll find shirozake, a sake made from fermented rice, also a regular fare of Hinamatsuri.
The Boats
As if they are literally overflowing with bad luck, the boats seem to be making a desperate attempt to land themselves upon the shoreline. They are reluctant to make their way back into the water and will gladly run people down if they're allowed to and are happy to ram into someone over and over again to try and get their way. When they are finally pushed back to the center of the river, they will begrudgingly continue on their way. Of course, some of them will simply sink because of the weight of all that bad luck, but who can really blame them.
Children
As expected of a day dedicated to celebrating children, there are dozens of children running around and playing games during the festivities. It's hard to distinguish, but some of them appear to be human children while others are shinki. They are happy to let anyone in on their games and will gladly bother adults to come play with them or to let them try some of the liquor. (Mods will be available to play out any child interactions you may want, just flag us down.)
Counselling
Off to the side, there is a tiny table set up with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". On the other side of the table is a sweetly smiling shinki who is willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. She is also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

Ever helpful, he sees fit to share that tidbit of information. ]
If you end up drowning, I'm not pulling you out.
no subject
[He winks at Hisoka, obnoxiously, and drags himself up out of the water. Wow, he's really soaked now. Hisoka looks like he caught some of the backsplash, too, which is probably why he's threatening to let Tsuzuki drown.
Whoops.]
Hey, you know, you might as well come in and help! You're already pretty wet, and I bet you're the best shinki here for warding bad luck off.
no subject
[ That's just grumping on Hisoka's part, more for the fact that his god has to toss off such cheesy lines like that than sincere irritation. With no lack of huffing, he steps in the water to go join him. See? Hisoka can handle this. He'll do his part.
Somehow, it feels so much colder than expected. He knew it had to be pretty uncomfortable, but this has him stumbling right back out. It doesn't even matter if it's worth getting teased over. ]
no subject
[Okay, explaining it makes Tsuzuki realize that it was a pretty lame line to begin with. He subsides, and eyes Hisoka, grinning. He'd jumped out of the water again pretty fast, hadn't he.]
Cold? Just jump right in! You'll get used to it! Plus, this is pretty hard work, so you'll warm back up again.
[He flexes a bicep, trying to look cool, and barely avoids getting mowed down by one of the bigger boats arrowing straight for shore.]
Oh crap! Hisoka, help me with that one!
no subject
It feels like Tsuzuki just brings these things on himself somehow, even if that's not possible. ]
It's freezing! [ So why is he storming right back into the water like that's such a good idea. Too cold! This wasn't going to be easy, but maybe the two of them could shift it back on course. ] I'm just not too stupid to feel it!
[ Briefly, he considers using magic, but it'd be no good if he ended up sinking the boat instead. But, oh, it sounds so tempting now that he's back out here. ]
no subject
[Tsuzuki manages to set his feet before the boat swings around to bash him in the shoulder again, but it still hits him hard enough to make him yelp. He grabs for the bow, managing to get a grip on the wet wood, and tries to shove it sideways. It keeps swinging back towards shore like there's a magnet buried in the sand.]
Ow! -- See, it's not the water that -- ow! -- that's the problem, it's the boats.
no subject
[ Even if magic is a bad idea, it only takes a few utter failures at being even remotely useful before he is convinced that any bad idea is somehow an improvement. ] Line. [ If he ends up getting squished right between boat and barrier as it swings back towards shore, it's his own fault.
But, dammit, the boat isn't going to win. ]
no subject
[The keel of the boat swings around and glances off Hisoka's barrier. Tsuzuki wrestles with it again. If it swings like that a couple feet closer to Hisoka it might squash him. Alarmed, Tsuzuki gives it a fierce shove, which is only slightly more effective than a regular shove.]
Hisoka, are you sure that's a good idea?!
no subject
It's just now he's sitting in the cold water, thoroughly drenched. ]
Don't ask for help if you don't want it! [ It's harder to get his footing under him than he'd expected. It takes away from the power of his indignant yelling as he scrambles to try to join his god. ]
no subject
[Tsuzuki digs his feet into the riverbed, throws both arms over the side of the boat, and manages with a great effort to hold it more or less still. He's got some muscle, but he's really nobody's strongman, and it's a good thing that the bruises the boat's struggles are leaving on his ribs won't last more than half an hour.]
Grab the other side of the bow over there -- and maybe we can -- ow! -- get this thing pointed back into the river!
no subject
[ It is the most sensible argument.
Flustered and frustrated, he finally manages to get his footing. He's not really that much help when it comes to the physical labor side of things, but that's never stopped Hisoka much before. No more shouting from his side for now, not as he tries his hardest to help haul the thing on the right course.
It's certainly not for a lack of things that he might want to yell. ]
no subject
[It is the least sensible argument, but on the plus side, Hisoka is way too busy wrangling the other side of the boat to throw anything at him. Tsuzuki's too busy to duck, but between the two of them the boat's moving more easily back away from the shore. Tsuzuki manages a breathless cheer of triumph.]
Almost there! C'mon, Hisoka! Just one more shove!
no subject
Miracle of miracles, they manage to beat out the boat, at least. The struggle seems to abate, and Hisoka trudges over to Tsuzuki when it finally goes on its way down the river. Maybe when he catches his breath, he'll have something to say on the matter. ]
no subject
[Tsuzuki, even though he's breathing hard and at least as soaked and bedraggled as his partner, has a huge smile on his face as he watches their wooden nemesis float innocently away.]
We did it!
[He reaches out to sling a friendly arm around Hisoka's shoulders (and also, incidentally, make sure he doesn't stumble while they're making their way back to shore. The water's kind of deep out here, and if it's hard for Tsuzuki to walk in it, well, Hisoka's a lot shorter than he is.]
C'mon, let's go hit the buffet and dry off....
no subject
Tsuzuki...
[ He glances up at his partner briefly before firmly turning his attention in front of him. The last thing he wants to do is flounder in the water after all that. Despite being so chilled that he's shivering, his cheeks feel entirely too warm suddenly. ]
Hurry it up. It's freezing.
no subject
[It's not a chilly day, but the river water feels like it just melted yesterday. A shiver of his own catches Tsuzuki by surprise as he slogs his way to the bank.
Despite that, there's a kernel of warmth lodged firmly in his chest. Hisoka hadn't shaken his arm off. Little by little, they're getting back to the way things should be.
He's reluctant to let go when they get to the water's edge, but it takes both hands to scramble up and out.]
Hey, I saved a table for us over there with my coat! [And his suit coat, too, because he'd figured the less of his outfit that got wet the better. Tsuzuki waves a hand at the table.] You can borrow it to warm up. I'm gonna hit the buffet, want anything?
