003 | Save The Boats
Who: Everyone!
What: It's a few days after Hinamatsuri - time for a party!
When: Late evening (March 5, 2016) into early morning (March 6, 2016)
Where: The banks of the Kamo River
Summary: The Heavens have thrown together an outdoor party to celebrate Spring and ALSO to ask the Far Shore residents to keep the boats from Hinamatsuri from coming to shore.

Hinamatsuri is celebrated in Japan on March 3 every year. It is a festival to celebrate all of the young girls of Japan, not as important as their own birthdays, but certainly a big day for all families with a little girl among their household. It's perfectly normal for all of the cuties to dress up and get all sorts of delightful treats out of the day.
One of the normal festivities is a ceremony during which ornamental dolls are placed on tiers on boats and floated down the river. It is thought that all of the bad luck for the coming year floats down the river with the dolls, taking that bad luck away from their young girls to keep them safe for another year.
But the boats don't always make it all the way down the river like they're supposed to, and the Heavens sometimes like to make sure that the year will be full of less bad luck for the people of Japan. So they have decided to have the almighty gods do some legwork and disguised it as a fun Springtime party! They expect gods and shinki alike to push the boats away from the shoreline wherever they see them venturing near.
New gods and shinki will have been ushered immediately to the party as well, given all of the normal information, and then left to mingle among their new cohorts. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the newbies to both their co-workers and the kinds of jobs they'll be expected to perform.

Buffet
A luxurious buffet is set up for everyone to enjoy. There are all kinds of foods to enjoy, though they all seem to be of a local variety. The Heavens have apparently used the funding from their own temples to purchase local food and support local businesses at the same time. In particular among the food and copious amounts of booze, you will find some Hinamatsuri staples - hina-arare, hishi mochi, chirashizushi, and a salt-based clam soup called ushijiru. Among the booze you'll find shirozake, a sake made from fermented rice, also a regular fare of Hinamatsuri.
The Boats
As if they are literally overflowing with bad luck, the boats seem to be making a desperate attempt to land themselves upon the shoreline. They are reluctant to make their way back into the water and will gladly run people down if they're allowed to and are happy to ram into someone over and over again to try and get their way. When they are finally pushed back to the center of the river, they will begrudgingly continue on their way. Of course, some of them will simply sink because of the weight of all that bad luck, but who can really blame them.
Children
As expected of a day dedicated to celebrating children, there are dozens of children running around and playing games during the festivities. It's hard to distinguish, but some of them appear to be human children while others are shinki. They are happy to let anyone in on their games and will gladly bother adults to come play with them or to let them try some of the liquor. (Mods will be available to play out any child interactions you may want, just flag us down.)
Counselling
Off to the side, there is a tiny table set up with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". On the other side of the table is a sweetly smiling shinki who is willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. She is also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

Boats
And so when he points out another boat as if he were directing her to take it, she glances at him. Takes it into her hands and gives it a hardy push...
Straight into him, hopefully downing him in the shallow water.]
no subject
Apparently, he'd been wrong.
Thinking that the girl was going to alleviate him of his burden so that he could go address the other, Oboro's grip on the vessel slackened just enough for her to push the boat into him.
He'd been taking a step towards the other boat, so it does indeed shove him off balance. One foot slips on the mud and he falls, balance righting too quickly for a full submersion.
He stood up straight.]
No.
[That was it? It came out on reflex, and as he realized he hadn't elaborated Oboro would continue.] It goes towards the center. [He'd point, though at the same time taking steps to reach the wayward vessel.]
no subject
So, for the most part - Oboro had an understanding of his looming intimidation, but he had made one minor oversight.
He, apparently, had discounted Nobume all together - which was not only in poor taste but a lapse in judgement. She now had the perfect reason to enact acts of petty revenge - which arguably made her childish "spite" more powerful.
So when he doesn't find his dick taking the plunge into shallow water, all he's done is prolonged the inevitable. Nobume would continue for as long as she drew breath.]
Aye, aye - Sir.
[And with that she'll step forward to chase after the vessel she had shoved. The water around her hinders her movements, but she still manages to press her palms into the runaway vessel before she gives it a pointed shove once more as the man walks towards the boat himself.]
no subject
Oboro hadn't discounted Nobume, but forgotten her all together.
The agreement on the woman's part was enough to deter his attention, truly under the impression that she understood and intended to cooperate. He kept hold of his own boat, but allowed the other to return to her hands.
A misjudgment.
She still pushes the vessel in the wrong direction, though it doesn't make much of an impact on him this time - simply 'doinking' him as if to punctuate his mistake.] Are you aware of what these boats carry? [Apparently lecturing was part of his baseline personality and not something he'd just forget.]
no subject
She still hasn't realized the man before her was now a shinki. Instead she has assumed that he too was made a God in this place. A god of what she wondered? A God of Complacency? The God of No Fun?
So he returned to lecture her, and she chose to make her move. She crosses the water and looks up at him - leaving the boat to doink sadly against the shore. She'd get back to it later.]
Are you aware of who you're talking to?
no subject
But her violence was not carried out against him. Instead, the boat she had been charged with voyaged slowly to the shore.
So, before her question even finished passing her lips, Oboro was turning away. He didn't answer - instead moving to right the error she'd made in allowing the vessel to slip from her hands.]
no subject
If she can manage, then she will hold him there for a moment as she struggles to right herself as well.
Fine then.
Die, Oboro.]
no subject
But that's the end of her fun.
She isn't balanced either, so he'll jerk upright, grab her leg, and throw her off. To land on her feet? To land in the water? He doesn't care.]

The tattoo on the back of his neck had been marred with a more noticeable tattoo. It was a mark that had chained the two of them together since her childhood. It was a brand that seared into her flesh whenever she was reminded of the devil she was...
And he had been freed of it in place of becoming.... of becoming a shinki? It had been shoved to the background, as if no longer the most important mark on the man.
So this crow's feathers had been plucked, after all and she had not been the one to do it. She isn't allowed the time to be properly disappointed - as the man quickly displaces her from him and throws her into the water.
She should've caught herself. She could've made that landing and yet...
Yet she finds herself sinking into the river with the mounting realization that the old crow was dead. Shouldn't she have been relieved? Happy? So then why did it threaten to bring those god-awful tears to her eyes?
They didn't have the sort of connection that she had with That Man, and yet it caused a dull ache in her heart. She stays below the water's surface for a few seconds before allowing herself to float up. The water soaks into her white clothing and seems to want to pull her down by her coat. So she finally drags herself upward, standing in the water as she begins to unbutton her coat.
Her little diversion has caused her to float past Oboro, so when she stands she now looks him in the eye with a good 10 feet between them.]
You're different now, then.
[Saying anything... about their past would ruin it all. Would it crush this man? Was it some strange way that the heavens let him have another chance?
Questions only continued to pile between them - with no answers cropping up. Annoying. Weren't gods supposed to be omniscient?]

When he was younger, when the Tendoushuu had first put their emblem on him, he'd run his fingers over the tender flesh, the pain a confirmation of his place. His purpose. But time went on and following his path was the purest way to show, to feel his dedication.
It seemed as if that development had stuck.
He turned to face his assailant, the girl who wanted to play instead of work, with a dissatisfied glare. Any words he had for her halted, however, when the water on her face shone just as brightly to the building sadness in her eyes.
Oboro didn't dare ask. Why the despair? He didn't need to know.
Even with the implication that perhaps she'd known him.]
My purpose has changed. [A definitive answer - one that implied he cared only for his current calling.] And yours? [A question to test her loyalty to the heavens.]
