003 | Save The Boats

Who: Everyone!
What: It's a few days after Hinamatsuri - time for a party!
When: Late evening (March 5, 2016) into early morning (March 6, 2016)
Where: The banks of the Kamo River
Summary: The Heavens have thrown together an outdoor party to celebrate Spring and ALSO to ask the Far Shore residents to keep the boats from Hinamatsuri from coming to shore.

Hinamatsuri is celebrated in Japan on March 3 every year. It is a festival to celebrate all of the young girls of Japan, not as important as their own birthdays, but certainly a big day for all families with a little girl among their household. It's perfectly normal for all of the cuties to dress up and get all sorts of delightful treats out of the day.

One of the normal festivities is a ceremony during which ornamental dolls are placed on tiers on boats and floated down the river. It is thought that all of the bad luck for the coming year floats down the river with the dolls, taking that bad luck away from their young girls to keep them safe for another year.

But the boats don't always make it all the way down the river like they're supposed to, and the Heavens sometimes like to make sure that the year will be full of less bad luck for the people of Japan. So they have decided to have the almighty gods do some legwork and disguised it as a fun Springtime party! They expect gods and shinki alike to push the boats away from the shoreline wherever they see them venturing near.

New gods and shinki will have been ushered immediately to the party as well, given all of the normal information, and then left to mingle among their new cohorts. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce the newbies to both their co-workers and the kinds of jobs they'll be expected to perform.

Buffet

A luxurious buffet is set up for everyone to enjoy. There are all kinds of foods to enjoy, though they all seem to be of a local variety. The Heavens have apparently used the funding from their own temples to purchase local food and support local businesses at the same time. In particular among the food and copious amounts of booze, you will find some Hinamatsuri staples - hina-arare, hishi mochi, chirashizushi, and a salt-based clam soup called ushijiru. Among the booze you'll find shirozake, a sake made from fermented rice, also a regular fare of Hinamatsuri.

The Boats

As if they are literally overflowing with bad luck, the boats seem to be making a desperate attempt to land themselves upon the shoreline. They are reluctant to make their way back into the water and will gladly run people down if they're allowed to and are happy to ram into someone over and over again to try and get their way. When they are finally pushed back to the center of the river, they will begrudgingly continue on their way. Of course, some of them will simply sink because of the weight of all that bad luck, but who can really blame them.

Children

As expected of a day dedicated to celebrating children, there are dozens of children running around and playing games during the festivities. It's hard to distinguish, but some of them appear to be human children while others are shinki. They are happy to let anyone in on their games and will gladly bother adults to come play with them or to let them try some of the liquor. (Mods will be available to play out any child interactions you may want, just flag us down.)

Counselling

Off to the side, there is a tiny table set up with a small, nicely written sign that reads "Gentle Counselling". On the other side of the table is a sweetly smiling shinki who is willing to listen to your problems and answer any questions you might have. She is also here to help out any gods that are having a hard time dealing with knowing about how their shinki died and any shinki that is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that they are dead.

In Summary:
  • Keep the boats off the shore
  • Enjoy the food and booze and spring atmosphere
  • Have some fun with cute little kids
  • Seek counselling if you need it!
  • Flag the mods in the top thread if you'd like an NPC
  • Have fun~

[The anger was still steadily growing, and by this time, Hibari almost hoped that he could feel it.]

Talk to me? I'll kill you. How dare you look down on me in this manner.

[Weren't gods holy and rightous beings? And yet they did things like this to him...Ha, deserving it. It made Hibari angry that he couldn't do more, at this rate.

And he couldn't make the fear completely go away.]

[Ren bites his lip on his immediate reaction to that, which would be full of his usual airheadedness and would definitely make it seem like he's looking down on Hibari, and takes a moment to come up with something else.]

If you think I'm looking down on you, then I'm sorry for that too.

[But there's probably nothing he can say that will convince hibari otherwise, especially since anything else he's coming up with has an edge to it. this next comment is going to be bad enough.]

If you don't want to talk, then we don't have to. But I'm not going to turn you back again until you've calmed down a little.

[Honestly, there's nothing he'd like more than to turn Hibari back, especially if it'll make the turning in his gut go away, but it had been a disaster last time and they would just be right back there where they'd started.]

[Telling Hibari to calm down was like telling a storm to stop raging-his momentum was just as suddenly lost as it was gained and he could do nothing but sit here, waiting for someone to do something to him. He had no memories, but his body reacted. His instinctual feelings told him that being held down and tortured-

Ren wasn't exactly torturing him, was he? Hibari had to admit that much, but he still had placed him in this situation which was almost just as bad. Hibari had nothing more to say.

He struggled futily, but nothing happened. He was just a pair of tonfa now. The gods must surely be laughing at him now, thinking turning him into a pair of his beloved weapons would be funny.

Hibari loved to fight, he was a weapon in himself-but to be a tool for another person was terrible. Partners....had he worked before with others? He hated it but...

Ren could feel what he could feel. He could tell Hibari was panicking. He could tell he was weak he could tell he was weak HE COULD TELL

Suddenly there seemed to be absolutely nothing from Hibari at all-whether this was more terrifying than feeling everything, it was up to Ren to decide.]

[Well, Ren had said that if Hibari didn't want to talk, they wouldn't, so he just sits there silently while he waits for his shinki to either decide he does feel like talking or to stop feeling like he'll just go right back to trying to hurt him.

If nothing else, it's a good opportunity to sort through what he's feeling and what is probably coming from Hibari. And to just get used to the idea that he could feel what Hibari was feeling in general. He isn't sure he likes that much, having that much knowledge of Hibari's feelings or that they affected him like this.

It would be a little funny to Ren if he knew that Hibari thinks he's the one in control here, because between this and needing a shinki to fight effectively, Ren certainly doesn't think so.

And then it's all gone. Suddenly he feels better than he has for hours, and it's alarming. Ren immediately goes on the alert, staring down at the tonfa in his lap like he might be able to see some sign of what happened if he looks long enough

Kyoya-kun? Are you all right?

[He could hear Ren asking the question, actually hearing the geniuine concern, and it just disgusted him further. He put on a good act for someone being worried about his favorite pet or something-

Hibari just closed further off. If Ren could feel what he felt, then Hibari would just feel nothing. It had worked for his entire life, and he wasn't going to let someone catch him now.

This dark world was easy to go into this sort of trance.]

will hibari ever be in vessel form for more than five tags? stay turned...

[That silence is really unnerving, especially combined with not being able to feel him anymore. (He'd only known that was going on for a few minutes and he's already distressed by losing it, amazing.) At this point, he's wondering if maybe Hibari was so afraid of being like this that he's gone into shock--

In which case, leaving him this way is a really bad idea. But even so, Ren hesitates for a moment, because he has no idea if Hibari is going to try to hit him again and he won't be able to do this to him again tonight. Doing it this time had been hard enough.

...So maybe he can come up with something else., because this had obviously been a really bad idea.
]

Hibari Kyoya, I'm sorry, I knew you didn't like this but I didn't realize how much it bothered you. I didn't want to hurt you...

when he starts fighting definitely

[The fact that Ren suddenly said his name barely registered at first, even as he felt the world come back into focus. He was human again, he could feel his clothes against his skin, but now he was lying on the ground.

Not as a pair of tonfas. The last words that Ren continued to say as he was now in human form disgusted him even further, trying to worm their way into his cold, dead shell. Didn't want to hurt him? That's why Ren manipulated him like this in the first place. He's the one who took Hibari and turned him into a tool against his will. He was the one he was bound to in the first place, the one who could peer into his mind and see everything that Hibari wanted to keep a secret-

He wanted to do everything and nothing at once, but for the moment, he didn't move, hoping Ren would get the hint and leave.]

[Unfortunately for Hibari, Ren would get the hint more if he did attack him again. As it is, it's both looking promising because he didn't and also really worrying because he didn't. And he's not really sure what to do about it. The last time he'd driven someone into a state like this, it had been on purpose and he'd had no problem just leaving him there.

So Ren just sits there for a moment, before he finally sighs and looks away.
]

I'm going to go get some food, and then I'm going home. I'd like it if you came with me so I can show you where it is and how to get there. I guess you don't have to stay there, but i don't think you'll find it very easy to stay anywhere here...

[Still Ren was here, and he was actually talking to him. Expressing concern. He couldn't stand it, and despite knowing about their now emotional bond, Hibari decided that he wanted the god to know just how angry it was.

It was strange, he finally managed to kickstart his emotions and they came back in pieces, the anger and resentment the most.

But it did get him to finally sit up and fix his shirt, his outward appearance like nothing ever happened.]

Don't ever talk about this, or I'll kill you.

[His voice was startlingly flat, but his eyes had the wild fire.]
shadowrevenger: (pic#10192037)

[personal profile] shadowrevenger 2016-04-26 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Ren winces a little as he feels the tide of emotions coming back, and he still isn't sure he likes the arrangement, but more than anything else, it's relieving to feel it again. He'd much rather have Hibari angry and yelling at him than...whatever he'd just been doing. That was concerning in a way this could never be.

And Hibari's going to have to come up with a better threat than that soon, because Ren is just as unfazed by it as he ever was.
]

I know.

[Ren carefully pushes himself to his feet, wincing again at the sudden change in altitude causes his injuries to throb, and after a moment of hesitation, holds a hand outto help Hibari up to. If he decides to take it. Which Ren figures he won't, but he's still going to offer.]

You never answered my question, you know. Have you had anything to eat yet?
disciplineking: (death)

[personal profile] disciplineking 2016-04-26 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hibari didn't have any other threats because he didn't really know any others. He'd always carried an aura of fear around him that made people respect his strength, and he'd just fight any problem he'd have. But this was one problem he just couldn't.

How could he deal with this? He wasn't one for mental torture or manipulation, preferring just to beat his opponents instead of playing mind games, but this was wrong on some many levels.

But....

Hibari glared at the proffered hand and slapped it away before pulling himself up with as much dignity as he could manage. Ren even had to be taller than him, which was the final nail in the proverbial coffin.]

Leave me alone.

[And Hibari turned to walk away and avoid Ren for as long as he could.]
shadowrevenger: (pic#10108299)

[personal profile] shadowrevenger 2016-04-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
[...Yep, that was pretty much what he expected. Ren lets his hand fall back to his side without fuss. If Hibari had taken it, he would have been amazed.

He doesn't expect Hibari to decide to leave, though. Maybe he should have, but he thought the idea of having to find a place to stay would have encouraged him to at least follow him back for five minutes. But Ren doesn't try to stop him either. He's honestly at a loss as to how to approach this situation, and they probably both need some time alone to get used to it.

It about five minutes later while he's picking out food that Ren realizes that not only does Hibari have no idea how to get to his temple, he doesn't even know his name so he could ask if he ever wanted to. So Ren fishes out his phone to send Hibari one quick message that hopefully he won't just immediately delete.
]

My name is Ren or Inanna and if you do need a place to stay, all you have to do is go to my shrine and wish for it. You don't have to see me at all if you don't want to.

[It is physically taxing to keep it that simple and not use an emoji or ten, but if Hibari disliked him before, he'd really despise that.

And with that taken care of, Ren goes back to deciding how much food to take back home with him.
