School catchall log

Who: Anyone and everyone who wants in
What: The grand opening of Elsa and Hakkai's school!
When: IC March 8-31
Where: The library in Menrva's temple, over in Takamagahara
Summary: Open log for anyone who'd like to stop by Elsa and Hakkai's school, for education, conversation, or procrastination... or just to chill.

**Schedule of classes** - teachers, feel free to add your classes!

Open House
Come meet your staff! Elsa is your head teacher (and principal by default), and Hakkai is the school's protector. Don't try to mess this up, or you won't like the result! Oh, and if your character can and/or would be willing to teach, feel free to offer your subject expertise! (Hakkai can teach classical Chinese literature and math, and Elsa can teach biology, physics, and basics of assorted sciences.)

Class time
Sessions will either be private or group-based, as needed. What does your character want to learn? If they don't have anyone to teach you, they'll find you books and learn together!

Study hall
Got homework? Want to do some research? Menrva's library is here for you. Elsa can help you find whatever it is you need, and being that this is the Far Shore, the library probably has books about any subject you can dream of.

Group work
Talk amongst yourselves to get any assignments or projects done. Try to stay on course, okay? Elsa will be happy to answer any questions as best she can.

Teacher's lounge
There are comfy chairs and desks all around the library, but over by the back, between some shelves and the floor-to-ceiling windows, is a little area reserved for taking a break from teaching. Chat about your students, ask for or offer advice, or just relax and have some tea and snacks.

Open House

[Hakkai has a collection of books and a scattering of papers that he's scribbling on and sticking into each book in turn. It's a lot of work developing a curriculum! And he's not sure which students will or won't have the basics. This is going to be a learning process for everyone concerned.

If anyone comes near the table his study materials are spread out on, he'll bounce up to his feet and offer them a bow.]

Good evening! Please don't mind the mess, I'm still a bit --

Are you going to be studying here?

Teacher's Lounge

[This really is a lot of work, and a long day requires plenty of fortifying tea and good food. Hakkai is engrossed in slicing the crusts off a selection of cute, tiny sandwiches with various fillings. There is a steaming teapot next to the tray where he's arranging the finished sandwiches, and several cups already set out ready to be poured full.]

Ah, try one of the barbecued pork sandwiches! The spices go perfectly with oolong.

Open House

[Here, Elsa is in her element. She's worked at a few private schools in the past, so she has quickly settled into that place again, looking comfortable as she walks around. Whenever someone comes in, she greets them with a smile.]

So good to see you here. Feel free to look around and have some tea. Hakkai and I are here to answer any questions you may have.

Teacher's Lounge

[Once she sees even one person in the area designated as teacher's lounge, Elsa wastes no time approaching them. Don't worry, she's not swooping in without letting you breathe or get settled -- she comes over with a tray of little sandwiches (with meat, vegetarian, and vegan options), which she sets down on the refreshments table as she asks,]

Group Work

[It's never a good idea to leave students unattended, and even though she's not exactly working with only teenagers here, the habit is too ingrained in Elsa to ignore, so she walks around the library while students, either alone or with others, go about their work.

Now and again she'll pause and take a peek at the assignment being worked on.]

Thankful or not, Hibari had calmed down since he was first introduced here. Unfortunately, that didn't mean any of his memory came back, so he was left with a vague sense of unease that something that was important was completely missing, and that alone pissed the Cloud Guardian off.

But as soon as he heard about the school, something in him clicked and he was there, whether it threw everyone off or not. It wasn't the right school, but it was something, and of course.....this guy.

"You're lucky I didn't come here to fight." Hibari's arms were crossed, his school uniform clearly have been taken care of.

Whatever the loneliest place in the library was, Hibari was there, taking a nap. Since it had been designated a school, something about being there felt proper, but there was absolutely no way he was going to socialize. Not until he got the job he wanted.

And he was going to get it.

But he felt someone enter his presence and his eyes snapped open, trapping them in his gaze. "What do you want."

Hakkai's cheerful smile didn't flicker, but something in his eyes cooled a little as he saw just who it was. Ah. This boy.

"Well, that's a change!" He slid the syllabus he'd been working on into the nearest book and folded his hands on top of the cover. If this was going to turn into a fight, he'd prefer it didn't destroy any of his paperwork.

As if he'd just thought of something else, he paused, and raised one finger.

"Does that mean you'll give me your name now?"

Hibari's stony expression didn't move an inch-it was clear that he didn't want to talk, but he had to. Because he felt like he had to ask something of this man and that just rubbed all of his nerves the wrong way.

Really, it should be repayment for almost strangling him to death-the Cloud Guardian had a sore throat for days.

"If there is to be a school, there will need to be a disciplinary committee. And it's chairman will be me." Hibari's slight sneer said that he would clearly fight if Hakkai answered in a way that was unfavorable.

Hakkai's eyebrows went up. That didn't sound like the sort of thing a school would need, and if a school did happen to need it, it shouldn't be run by students.

Particularly students who didn't feel like handing out their names.

He re-folded his hands on the book, and said, curiously, "What is a disciplinary committee?"

"We uphold and maintain order as well as enforce school rules. We also protect it from outside forces." At least in his case, which he didn't quite remember.

Hibari was practically glowing when he said this-his entire pride was put into maintaining law and order as he saw fit.

He seemed so proud of that. Maintain order, really? Hakkai eyed the boy dubiously.

"In fact, we don't have any rules yet," he temporized. "But if you'd like to be a disciplinary committee, I think you'll have to talk to Elsa."

And before Hakkai recommended a particularly violent young man to keep order (although if he could just keep himself in line, that would already be a weight off Hakkai's shoulders) there was one thing he was determined to get an answer to.

"And I still want to know who you are."

Despite his reputation, Hibari really did bring order to his school-he had a reputation of being both feared and loved-anyone was vulnerable to his attack, but he held pride in his school and generally didn't cause trouble unless he felt it necessary-

but Hibari didn't remember anything. And was getting annoyed that he wasn't immediately aquiescing. "Hibari Kyoya. What sort of person forms a school with no rules?"

He didn't want to talk to anyone else.

"Well, most of our students are going to be older, you know! And there's so much self-study opportunity." A wave of Hakkai's hand took in all of the books surrounding them, and he glances back at Hibari.

"It's a pleasure to be introduced, Kyoya."

[Yukine is only a little happy about the idea of going to school, okay? Not, say, excited. Really. ~~lies~~

With a backpack full of Hiyori's second-hand text books that he's already working his way through, Yukine approaches the desk and is a little relived when it's a familiar face there. To the question he simply nods. Then he returns a question of his own,]

Is this really going to be like school? Or is it tutoring?

Ah, Yukine-kun!

[He has a bag of books and everything! How well prepared. Hakkai beams at him, impressed.]

Well, it looks like most of it will be one-on-one, but I plan to have a course of study for my classes. What level are you at?

That didn't exactly please Hibari's opinion of schooling, and what Hakkai said next even less.

"Don't call me that." The Cloud Guardian's eye was twitching and he was a lot closer to fighting than before. This was reminding him....of someone he didn't want to remember even when he couldn't....

"Oh, I'm sorry! Do you prefer Hibari?"

Hakkai sketched a bow over his textbooks, beaming with aggressive innocence. The sudden increase of tension in Hibari's posture wasn't lost on him. The boy really was remarkably short-tempered.

If Hibari wound up with the responsibility of keeping order in this school, Hakkai suspected that he would wind up keeping Hibari in line himself.

He didn't exactly appreciate people who appeared to passively aggressively apologize to him either, or at least that's the way Hibari saw it.

"Is it that obvious?" Really, there was only a very little thin line of decency that was holding him back right now.

And even so, he wasn't going to give up easily for this position-he might actually calm down some. But right now, he just really wanted to punch Hakkai.

[Shh- don't beam at him- it's embarrassing...]

Hiyori says I'm second year of Junior High. [He shifts his backpack to one shoulder so he can pull out a random textbook to show him. 2年数学 (2nd-year math) is written large at the top.
So, more tutoring or a course with Hakkai-san, is it?]

What subjects are you covering? ['You' as in Hakkai himself, or 'you' as in the school, either way.]

Ah, the sleeping student. Elsa knows this type. Sneaking off to catch some z's rather than go to class. True, libraries should be comfortable, but... not that comfortable. Not always, anyway.

She smirks, crossing her arms, and nods at him. "I'm trying to figure out if you're slacking or not. It's not every day I wonder if someone sleeping in the library is or isn't one of my students."

"Really, you should just tell me if you prefer a certain name. I don't mind."

Hakkai's smile didn't fade. He wondered how long it would take for Hibari to take a swing.

If he did manage to restrain himself, perhaps he could be trusted with a little responsibility after all.

Ah, let me see what's in it! I'm not sure exactly what's taught that year.

[Hakkai reaches for the book and flips it open, hunting for the index. As he searches, he keeps talking, cheerily.]

I'll be doing literature, and math, I think. Elsa will be teaching sciences.

[He wrinkles his nose, and admits:] I don't seem to know much about the sciences.

"Is there any point to you goading me on?" Hibari wasn't stupid-he knew that Hakkai was annoying him on purpose, but for what, he wasn't entirely sure. Sure, he was itching to take a chunk out of this guys face, but that would just be giving him the satisfaction of winning.

Besides he was technically inside the school, and Hibari felt like he generally didn't start fights inside schools. Unless of course, the mess was easily cleaned up.

Well, at least she was half right. Hibari wasn't one to go to classes, preferring to sleep on the roof instead, but he didn't normally skip them. He just didn't have to attend at all.

He was learning a bunch of things about himself, Hibari mused as he yawned and glared at the newcomer. "Is that the reason you've disturbed my nap? I have no interest in attending class."

She arches her eyebrows in response, biting back a laugh. "Oh? Then why would you come all the way here for your nap? To my library, which is why I'm here, by the way."

This is so close to normal that she is downright amused.

Hibari wasn't going to stop giving her that glare, to be completely honest. "Because it is a school."

Like that explained everyone.

"That asshole said I had to talk to you about being a discplinary committee chairman."

Heh. I'm kinda glad to hear that Susano'o-sama hasn't wedged his way into being the math teacher. That guy is crazy.

[And he also grimaces slightly.] I know that feeling. But English is the worst. [And Japanese literature is not far behind, honestly, although the extra lessons from Kazuma on kanji have been a boost.]
