Who: Axel the Accidental Ayakashi and you!
What: After a badly thought out conversation with Roxas, Axel succumbs to his memories and turns into a fiery ayakashi. (See the plotting post for details!)
Where: In a pretty park area in the Heavens, and rampaging around from there.
When: April 28, early afternoon
Warnings: Violence, character death, body horror

[A few hours after noon, a shriek spirals up into the still air of the Far Shore. Among the trees to one side of a path, purple limbs flail, backlit by a sullen lava glow, and something massive moves. The trees tremble.

Incoming.

Duck.]

(( This is an catchall mingle log for interactions with ayakashi!Axel and reactions! Axel will be tagging into the fight threads as well as the threads of anyone who asked for a quick interaction in the OOC log. ))

[Leo had barely said more than "Ayakashi. Sora," as he got ready to teleport them to the park. Not that he needed to say more than that. It doesn't matter what past he has with Sora - both here and before he died - he's not going to stand idly by and let someone important to Leo be killed by an ayakashi.

Which is exactly what it looked like was about to happen if they hadn't gotten there when they did. Saïx transforms into his wolf form and goes after the ayakashi, a rage spreading through him that he hasn't felt before. With that rage comes immense strength and he lunges toward its throat, teeth bared and growling, ready to tear into it.

He hasn't yet seen the side that still looks a little like Axel. Saïx has no clue that's who he's about to fight.]

[He'd been pursuing the helpless god and his weakened shinki. And now, there's another god there, and another shinki -- this one resistant to his hunger, somehow, in its strange wolf form. It doesn't smell delicious at all.

But it's between him and his prey. Axel snarls, head snapping around so that both his baseball-sized golden eye and the agonized green eye focus in on Saïx's wolf form. The sliver of human skin is dwindling as bruiselike color spreads slowly in towards his eye, but there's still enough of the tear tattoo left there to be visible.

When he speaks, though, there's nothing human in the sound, only a distorted growl.]

Die....

[Leo heads to Sora's side, helping him up even though it spreads the blight to him. He can deal with it for now, though. He'll heal at Forrest's later--and that's where he tells Sora to go.

Now, on to this monster.]

Go for his throat!

[Sora is thankful for the help. He smiles weakly at Leo and nods when he's told to go to Forrest. He'll used the last of what he's got in him to teleport himself there.]

...Be careful, Leo. If it gets too much you gotta run. Stay in one piece and look out for Saix.

[And with that Sora vanishes.]

[Saïx barely registers anything Sora said, but he hears Leo's command loud and clear. "I am," he replies. Not that anyone but Leo can hear him.

The majority of his focus is honed in on the ayakashi, which as it turns he recognizes the last little remaining bit that tells him this is Axel, one of the few people he'd more or less consider a friend, or at least a candidate for a friend. Whatever happened to turn him into this, doesn't matter right now. What matters is putting a stop to him before he tries to kill anyone else.

That turn causes him to miss his throat and Saïx clamps down on air, mere inches from Axel's neck. He digs his claws into his chest as he falls forward - there's considerable strength behind it, more than a wolf of his size should have - enough to push Axel, if not over, at least back a foot or two.]

[The wolf's claws are sharp, and they slash the skin on Axel's chest deeply. A gooey pale-purple ichor bursts from the wounds instead of blood, catching fire as it pours down his chest, threatening to sear Saïx's paws as Axel's shoved back by the impact.

One claw, the very furthest on the end, has found purchase on the sliver of bruise-discolored human skin remaining on Axel's torso.

There, the wound bleeds real blood.

Wounded, Axel lets out a distorted scream, and lashes two of his limbs violently towards the shinki with its claws lodged in his chest. The spikes whistle through the air, one arm angled in from either side, aimed to embed themselves deeply in the wolf's body and cast it away from him. It's not enticing in the least. It's the god standing behind it, directing its attacks, that Axel wants.]

[Leo nods as Sora vanishes, turning to the ayakashi with murder in his eyes. There's no sense in talking to it--it's gone completely crazy.

Mentally, to Saix:]

Watch out, I'm going to use my magic.

[And then Leo begins to put the weight of the world on the ayakashi, crushing it as best he can. This thing is pretty large and feisty, though, so he has no idea how long he can apply pressure or stop it. Still, it should slow it down enough for Saix to do more damage.]

[Leo's warning comes just in time for Saïx to avoid being impaled on Axel's arm spikes. The power he has when fighting as a wolf has not only made him stronger, but faster. Still, as fast as he is, he doesn't escape unscathed, the spikes cut into his flesh, leaving several bleeding gashes on his chest.

The berserker's rage keeps the pain at bay, he'll feel the full weight of it later, but for now, it's not slowing him down. Once he's sure Leo's cast the spell, he goes back in for another attack, clawing and biting at the shoulders in an attempt to disable him, to keep Axel from taking another swing at embedding those spikes into him.

When he has a good grip on Axel's shoulder with his teeth, Saïx pushes away from him. In doing so, he tears off a decently sized piece of it in his mouth, which he quickly spits to the ground.]

[Leo's spell crushes down against Axel, flattening and denting the ground around his body as it smashes him into it, and he roars in fury. It's holding him still, flattening his extra segmented limbs to the grass, and sending new red-glowing cracks radiating through the black shell of his lower body.

He snarls, furious, as Saïx's teeth find purchase in his fleshy shoulder and tear the purple-blotched, but weaker, human skin asunder.

Not only blood gushes from this deeper wound. Black smoke seeps up from it, too, wisping into the sky, and the spiked limb sprouting from Axel's left shoulder falls limp. The pain is shocking and intense, and it fuels the maddened rage surging in his veins.

He rolls, fighting the crushing strength of Leo's spell to work his way slowly forward. His body slips into the soil, escaping through its own half-substantial nature, diving deep and safe even though it leaves behind torn-free segments of limb to dissolve swiftly into featureless goo on the grass, and he lunges again. Further forward. Closer to his two opponents. If he can devour them, the power will strengthen him, brush away the hurts clouding his mind. He's certain. He must.]

Oka--ah!

[Leo glances down at his arm, wincing at the black blight spreading over it from where he touched Sora to help him. It's not too bad, not yet, but if he lets that monster near him it'll get worse.]

We need to hurry! I can't hold him forever--can you put up a barrier so I can rend him?

[Saïx attempts to do a borderline, but with paws, he can't make the hand motions to do it, so it fails.]

I can't. I need my hands to cast it.

[Which means that he'd have to return to human form, do the borderline, become a wolf again, and then have Leo use him to rend the ayakashi Axel. The question was, could they do it all before he escapes? The barrier would only keep him away from them, not keep him from wandering off.

He pushes back away from the ayakashi, landing on all four legs a few feet away, because if he's going to change back to human form, he doesn't want to get blighted.]

You can say my name now.

[Axel keeps struggling forward, focused. His teeth are bared in a mirror of the wolf's, too many of them visible in a gaping mouth, and he's leaving a trail of purple ichor like a slug's track behind his damaged body. It evaporates like mist from the grass behind him.

Closer. Closer.

He whips his two forelimbs viciously down, one aiming for the wolf and the other for the god behind him.]

Saix!

[Leo tries to force more pressure on the ayakashi even as he rolls out of the way--and there goes his shoulder. Sprained or dislocated, by the feel of it, and his ankle is on fire right now. Glancing down, he sees that the tentacle got his leg on top of a possible sprain or twist. Leo winces, getting his knees]

Dammit, do it quick!

[Changing back was perhaps the worst idea he's had this entire fight. He coughs up the blood that remained in his mouth after biting off part of Axel's shoulder. His mouth and throat ache, and his chest feels like it's on fire.

He barely manages to dodge out of taking the brunt of the attack from the sweeping, spiked limbs. Saïx takes a blow to his side, the spikes tearing open large gashes and blighting him.

As soon as he's able, he casts the borderline, protecting both himself and Leo from further attacks from the ayakashi, as well as cutting into it.]

Hurry, let's rend him.

[Axel slams into the borderline, shuddering with the impact, and falls back with a frustrated snarl. He's wounded, and the two beyond the barrier --

Rend, they said, and something like recognition glimmers under the rage and hunger filling his mind. Recognition, and then fear.

They can destroy him. He's wounded and they can destroy him. Escape.

In a single smooth motion, despite his injuries, he turns and lunges, not forward, but down into the ground as though it were water. One of his spiked limbs describes a graceful arc behind him, and then disappears into the soil, too. Underground, safe, Axel runs.]

--dammit.

[Leo tries to go after the ayakashi but ends up just falling against Saix with another swear]

He got away, and we're in no condition to chase after him. Dammit!

[Saïx forgot that the ability to speak with Leo without anyone else hearing only worked when he was in his vessel form. If only he hadn't spoken, they might have been able to end it.]

Sorry.

[He turns and faces Leo, the inside of his mouth darkened with blight. He sways and stumbles when he takes a step forward, but he manages to steady himself. Everything hurts and he can hardly think through the pain now that the adrenaline is gone.]

Don't be, that one was intelligent--and we need to get to Forrest anyway.

It was...

[He knows why the ayakashi was intelligent, but he's feeling so woozy from all the blood loss that he trails off, unable to finish his thought.]
