[closed] Welcome to the tea party
Who: Sanzang, Sanzo, Hazel, and Jae-ha
What: A long overdue dinner party that in no way will go topsy-turvey
When: May 2
Where: hazel's mansion temple texas shrine
Warnings: Sanzo? Who Jae-ha is as a person?
[Sanzang had never really gone to a small dinner party before. Sure there had been banquets and large, lavish parties before but nothing this... intimate? It was exciting, but...
Well, cooking had been a disaster. Did you know pressure cookers made hardboiled eggs? Did you know they could explode and the scorch marks might never go away? Sanzang knows now. Oh boy does she know. So it's a store-bought cake in her hands, which she keeps looking at in mild dismay]
I was so looking forward to bringing something I made... [Ah well. She smiles at Sanzo] It'll just have to wait for next time! [Next time??] Maybe I'll try a casserole thing again... Wukong and the others were pretty helpful, ahaha!
[And helpful at eating the remains when she'd messed that up too which had led to her deciding on something "easier" like hardboiled eggs in a pressure cooker. Also who uses monkeys to help in the kitchen? Stop her.
Either way she balances the boxed cake on one bare hand (her sleeves left at home, though she'd unfortunately gotten absolutely nowhere in convincing Sanzo to leave his gun behind) and knocks on the door]
This'll be fun, I promise! [Citation needed.]

And now they'll probably all die in a fire or something if this would be half as fun as she'd thought her cooking efforts should have been. ]

He, personally, is not helping with much - not after he burned an entire pizza to a crisp, which is his excuse if not an actual good enough reason, considering the circumstances - but he did go collect the good wine. He's been loitering around making commentary while Jae-Ha does the actual cooking until the knock on the door. Ah.
How is this dinner happening, really. He'll be the one to answer that, then...]
Evenin', Sanzos. [is that kosher? stop him]
Both of ya actually came! [WOW] C'mon in.
no subject
Anyway, hi Hazel. Sanzang smiles and gives a wave before using both hands to carry the cake now] Good evening! I hope we're not too early or anything. I was going to make something, but...
[She winces a little and lets out a nervous laugh. ANYWAY... She holds the cake out for hazel to take. It's small, but if he opens the box it's...definitely shaped like texas.] I noticed you had this shape a lot in your house when I visited, so I figured it must be a favorite of yours'!
[SMILING!! Did she do good? She feels like she did good. She's so proud of herself. Favorite shapes are definitely a thing, right?]
no subject
She made something. It was a bomb.
[ Well, no one said it'd be good credit. ]
no subject
Just come in here, weirdos.]
Well, Jae-Ha's cookin' somethin' or other. [isn't Hazel great and attentive] Nothin's on fire here. [a beat; the box-] This's a nice gesture.
[Follow him now... to the dining room!! Which is never used, but there sure is a first time for everything. It's next to the kitchen, so Jae-Ha won't have any trouble at all eavesdropping this time.]
no subject
Oh, did they even bring a joint gift? How sweet. I'm almost done now.
[That's all he's saying for now, offering a brief wave and smile before he disappears back into the kitchen to finish up. Joint gift, how couple-y of them... He just wants that out in the air.]
no subject
[LOOK. IT'S FINE. She smiles and gives a little wave when Jae-ha briefly pops in] It's a cake! I hope you have a sweet tooth!
[She taps her cheek thoughtfully.] Is Jae-ha doing all the cooking himself? Maybe I should go help him...
no subject
His real gift comes when she starts suggesting she help. He shoots Hazel a warning look--don't humor her!--before he catches her by the arm and firmly marches her over to a chair at the dining room table. ]
Be a good guest and sit down already. [ You're welcome, Hazel. Your kitchen will remain intact. ]
no subject
[While Sanzo saves his kitchen from destruction - thanks - he peeks into the cake box and immediately feels Regret. It's this shape. So this is his favorite now, is it?
Fine...] Lemme go grab the wine.
[BE RIGHT BACK... he needs to resent Texas in private. It's Jae-Ha's turn to play host, hurry up.]
no subject
So, things like onigiri and shishkabobs! Even a bit of stew that he'll be bringing out in a moment.]
I'm surprised you convinced him to come after all, Sanzang dear. You must have such a way with persuasion. Is there a secret?
no subject
But it's hard to keep a pout up when food's brought out--and it looks edible! Good, even! Much better than anything she could put out.] Ooh, it smells so nice! Jae-ha, Hazel's so lucky to have you! Hey, Sanzo, you should learn to cook too! We can't lose to them!
[The smile she sends him is nothing short of open affection. He could even wear a little chef's hat and a 'kiss the cook' apron or something.]
Oh, I just promised I'd make it up to him later! [Oh.] Besides, if I told you everything, it wouldn't be a secret, right? I have to let Sanzo preserve some air of mystery!
no subject
Her smile is met with an affronted frown. He's not losing to anyone, but what does that have to do with being able to cook? ]
Genjo blew up the kitchen. I didn't have a choice. [ He's not letting this go, and probably deserves smacked for it, really. ]
no subject
But he'll sidle back in conveniently to hear the end of this kitchen explosion story, with more wine and wineglasses than one tiny man should be able to carry. For alcohol, he makes it happen.]
Blew it up? No kiddin', really?
[Everybody gets a glass, hello, wine is here.]
no subject
Sanzang, dear, a beautiful woman like yourself shouldn't be left alone to do all of the work in the kitchen. Teaching Sanzo over there to cook sounds like an ideal solution for everyone.
no subject
Well first I tried to make a casserole, but I didn't have everything I needed for this particular one, so I tried to substitute some things-- and the monkeys kept eating some behind my back. Anyway it didn't work out so I gave it to the monkeys. Then I tried to use this pressure cooker thing to hardboil eggs, because it seemed quicker, but I think it was a really really old one, something didn't lock right...
Anyway, it exploded. It wasn't a bomb! At least, it wasn't on purpose! [Which somehow makes it...not a bomb... Yes. [She reaches out again to give Sanzo's arm a little tug--Come sit with me!--and smiles sheepishly at Jae-ha] It sounds like a good idea, but Sanzo's tastes are really... Unique! It might be better to just leave it to others... I don't like mayonnaise nearly as much as he does.
no subject
He shouldn't, but he is. It's not enough to stop the two cheerful idiots from jabbering on and getting stupid ideas, but he's not stuck entirely by himself. Still, she manages to get him to sit down beside her.
Only, he tells himself, because giving up and leaving would mean he'd have to go pick up takeout or something. It's too much trouble.
Glowering generally at them, however, seems fair. ] If I wanted to, I could cook.
[ This is entirely untrue. ]
laura and I are order switching for this
[Well, with all of this bomb discussion and Sanzo lying through his teeth, Jae-Ha moves over to another chair and scoots it out, patting it as he looks to Hazel.]
Come now, you can sit down. I'll pour the wine. [He'll reach over to help take some of these wine glasses from Hazel afterwards, lingering to encourage him to sit even then. Sittttt...]
this was necessary
This is a really long explanation about how her kitchen exploded, though, and Hazel can only stare in mild awe. He only burned a single pizza, and the oven wasn't harmed... This is kind of incredibly. Maybe it's because he's so struck by this wacky story that he doesn't sit down immediately, but ah, Jae-Ha is doing this dorky thing.]
You're a perfect gentleman, thanks. [nerd... Here, he's sitting, everyone is satisfied. He'll pass Jae-Ha the first wine bottle as well, while he raises an eyebrow at Sanzo and then smoothly looks right at Sanzang instead.]
I'm doubtin' him.
no subject
At least Hazel seems to share her reservations, and Sanzang lets out a high, nervous giggle.] I'm sure he'd... do his best. [Trying to be tactful and nice is Hard.]
Maybe he can just take me out to dinner sometime instead. [That sounds like a much better compromise that won't result in her kitchen being further destroyed. Which, now that she thinks on it, she should probably warn Chuuya about...
Oh well.
She smiles between Jae-ha and Hazel, expression warm and fond] You two get along so well, you must be so close! I hope Sanzo and I can become as close one day!
no subject
If he has to go through with it, be ready to live a life of white rice and soggy ramen, Sanzang. She'd better enjoy Jae-Ha's cooking tonight, because now he's going to have to make a point. ]
I refuse to resemble a pair like that.
no subject
I'd reckon we're pretty close. [Hah. Anyway, check out the wet blanket over here...]
With that grumpy face, Mister Sanzo, ya wouldn't stand a chance anyway.
[They wouldn't gang up on him if it weren't so easy!!]
no subject
I'm afraid Hazel's right. But you two do already seem like a pair of something, if that counts for anything.
[Pouring wine... hello]
no subject
She eyes the arm around Sanzo and then Sanzo, a warning on her face--be nice!--before he quickly smiles again] Hazel! Come on now, he's got a perfectly nice face! Even if it's stuck in that scowl all the time.
[But she's pleased by Jae-ha's words, at least.] Do you think so? That's good to hear! [Pair of what though?] Oh-- You know, I never asked, but what does Jae-ha turn into for you, Hazel? Or is that not polite to ask another god...?
[She's ever been quite clear on the Rules here about that sort of thing, but she figures it's okay to talk about?? Why not.]
no subject
The look on his face is even more dangerous than that, however, as he grits his teeth in frustration. He's behaving. He's the most behaved.
He's going to behave Jae-Ha into next week with his fist here in a second. ]
no subject
[Kind of a tacky one, but that's beside the point. Now, he's not going to stop Jae-Ha, because they are adults and not goddamn children being babysat here, but all the same...]
Mister Sanzo, if you're havin' a bad time, you're free to leave.
no subject
Then he rounds to his own spot and fills his glass before sitting down.]
It's more of a pendant than a regular necklace, isn't it? [Let him have some pride, also, things are just fine here!!]
no subject
That sounds so cute! A dragon! Sanzo turns into a clothing set for me! [She hesitates a little though, because, well, Hazel's not wrong. Sanzo's perfectly free to leave if he's really not enjoying himself, but...
Sanzang sends Sanzo a doleful sort of look] Sanzo...
no subject
He'll...
...stay in his seat because what the hell is that look that Sanzang is giving him? Instead, Sanzo is just going to let them babble about whatever they want to, and see if a glass of wine will at least help fortify him enough to deal with this stupidity. ]
no subject
That's right, a cute lil dragon. It's a big necklace, I s'pose... [pendant, pff.
But now that everyone's having a Great Time-] Well, let's eat.
no subject
Let's eat.
[Well, hopefully everyone enjoys his little feast set out, but he'll definitely be enjoying the wine, as well. It's some good, fancy wine. He waits until everyone has their guards down and is eating to speak again.]
Does he have the sleeves and everything? I need to know.
no subject
Jae-ha, it's so good! Can I steal you away to cook for us too? [She's so ready to eat her fill and take home leftovers.]
He does! The sleeves are my weapons! I think we work really well together, it's... Hmm, well it's almost like we can figure out what the other's thinking even before we teamed up. It's like instinct, we just read each other well. Or something like that, right, Sanzo? [Smiles at him!]
But I'm sure you and Hazel are probably similar!
no subject
That's nothing like those two at all.
no subject
But we get along just fine.
[So there!! Eat your stew, Sanzo.]
no subject
[That's Jae-Ha's input, but dinner can probably continue on like this as usual. Jae-Ha drinks as much as he usually does and nothing changes, and he'll enjoy the food he worked hard on, so hopefully they can as well!
He hasn't thought ahead to what they can do after...]
no subject
[Why must you all be like this.
Thankfully the peace is kept (more or less) and after everything's been all put away (probably for Jae-ha to wash alter, but who knows maybe Hazel will actually help??), Sanzang claps her hands together with a bright grin.]
Dinner was wonderful, thank you so much for having us over! [This sounds like it's going to lead to Sanzang announcing their intentions to leave, but no one get their hopes up yet. She taps her cheek with a mock-forgetfulness]
Now, if I recall, when we talked about this... Jae-ha said he could play music, and I think we agreed we could dance! [There were no solidified plans on that front, but Sanzang's beaming away like it's a Given Thing.] Just a little bit?
[Pretty please with a cherry on top?]
